Connecting my old ipod nano to a new Windows PC
I recently purchased a new Windows PC and I want to connect my iPod Nano (1st Gen) to it, which I've had for about 8 months with 800 songs on it.
I downloaded the latest version of iTunes (with Quicktime) on to my new PC. When I try to connect my iPod, Windows detects a USB device but doesn't recognise that its an ipod, so it doesn't show up in iTunes or My Computer.
I don't know why this is, but I have some theories (listed below)
* Is this because you need a driver for the iPod nano (I thought you didn't need it with the new version of iTunes) or...
* Will the iPod only Sync with Windows once (i.e. when you first connect it and it hasn't been formatted to Mac or Windows), once synced with that Windows it will sync with any other (for piracy reasons)?
* Have I got to do a master reset to my ipod to get it to sync with my new PC?
* Or is it some other reason?
Can someone please help me?
i have the exact same problem. I have a 1st generation ipod nano 1g, and the previous computer which had my software on it, crashed (windows 2000). Then we used another computer which had windows xp and i tried installing the latest itunes onto the comp and as i connected my ipod it showed an icon stating... "USB does not recognise devive" "no drivers are installed for this device". so yeah practically the same problem and i really want a solution, as this is the 5th time ive had my ipod stuff up in the short amount of time ive had it. Very frustrating!!

How do I trade in my old Ipod Nano for the new one?
How do I trade in my old Ipod Nano for the new one?
You can trade in your old iPod at your local Apple Store for a 10% discount towards the purchase of a new one.
If you are referring to the 1G Nano recall, see this page.

Can I exchange the old iPod nano for the new iPod nano?
I was wondering if I can exchange my old iPod nano for a new one even if it costs a tiny bit extra.
Hi Deborah,
Your profile doesn't say what country you live in, but for example, if you go to the US Apple online store, you can click on the
b Sales and Refunds
link at the bottom of the page, to find Apple's policy.
I'd suggest you dig a bit deeper into the online store site until you get to the appropriate
b education store
webpage, in case the
b Sales and Refunds
links at the bottom of that page leads to a modified policy.
And even if you are past the stated
b Refunds
period, you have nothing to lose by calling the appropriate number (eg. in the US: 1-800-676-2775) to see if you can get a Return Material Authorization, especially since you wish to order a new computer at the same time. The worst they can say is "no".
I'm assuming the iBook transaction was entirely online, but if it was instead bought through a campus bookstore to get the educational discount, the campus bookstore would then be another place to approach to see if they have different policies to the online store.
best of luck,
...ben

My windows lap top was recently destroyed to the point of no recovery.
All of my music and picture files are still located on my ipod and I plan on getting a new windows laptop
Is there anyway that I can transfer my (unpurchased) music files and pictures from my ipod nano to my new computer?
The pictures are more important that the music, so if only one is possible, I would prefer that
I appreciate any ones helpful commentsCopy the iTunes library from your backup as below:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
Sync with the restored library. -
HT1320 Could I trade in my old ipod nano for a new one or something?
My ipod nano is from 2009. The hold button doesn't work anymore; The battery doesn't last me as long as it used to and it keeps crashing.
Try trading in your iPod Nano with a company like http://NextWorth.com They'll give you cash for your old device (even if all the buttons aren't working). Then you can use that money to offset the cost for a new iPod.

I got a present of an iPod in 2008 and synced it with a laptop I had at the time. The laptop has since broke and the iPod was put in a press and never used. I now have a new iPad and apple I.d and have pulled out the old iPod and want to sync it so my new music from iTunes will be on the iPod.
Your iPod is not directly "linked" with an Apple ID. Just connect it to your computer (Mac or Windows PC) running iTunes and use it. You cannot sync an iPod to an iPad, however.

I have just bought an ipod classic, I already have an ipod nano. The new ipod was connected to the computer to charge and it named itself with my name on the old nano, how do I get the computer to recognise the new one?
My mistake, it was nothing to do with format. It woldn't sync because my movies were HD. HD movies won't sync to an iopd classic 160 GB but when you purchase a HD movie, itunes gives you a SD vervsion of the movie which is compatible with the ipod. Just needed to go to store, click movies, click purchased and untick the HD box and there you have the SD versions. Download the SD versions and then sync your ipod and bobs you uncle, movies are on the ipod

Old ipod nano - when i connect it to my imac - error message
I have an old iPod Nano - when i connect it to my iMac, I get an error message that says I can't have more than 5 computers authorized with my account - My account only shows 4, but that's really beside the point since this iMac is already authorized and I sync other devices from it. Any suggestions? It won't let me add any new content to this iPod.

I had an old iPod nano with my content saved on it and was stolen. As well, I can't find and access my old account that I had with it. I bought an iPod touch and made a new account so that I could use the iTouch. Anyone know how to find the old account and how to transfer data from the old one to the new account?
