Connecting my old PB to my new MB via Airpor

I want to transfer some of the old files from my old PowerBook G4 to my new MacBook, and I was thinking about doing it via the Airport.
Can it be done?
I am probably asking something dumb, but I don´t know if it can be done and if so how?
I really appreciate your help!

My old laptop died, which i had my ipod syncd to, is it possible to connect to my new one without loosing all my music?
Belatedly answering the original question...
If you connect an iPod that is synced one iTunes library do a different library, either on a new computer, or even the same one, then iTunes will want to remove all the existing content from the device and replace it. However with care the media on the device can usually be recovered and added to the library before you get to the point of deleting anything.

See this post from Zevoneer for options on moving your iPod data back to your computer.

Some of the tools linked to will only work if the iPod has a valid library. Others can scan the drive independently and some may even be able to rebuild a damaged library. The manual method towards the end should be able to recover your media regardless of the state of the library.

    Hi mshields1162,
Great question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
First, you may want to choose to have the sidebar displayed for familiarity:
    iTunes 11: Frequently used features
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5649
Afterwards, your device should be displayed if connected:
We'll want to click on it, and choose the Music tab at the top. Let's make sure "Sync Music" is checked:
Afterwards, you'll have the option to sync either the entire music library (for your first iPod), or "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" (for the secondary device). Upon selecting this option, four larger option boxes will appear allowing you to pick and choose what content will be synced. For audiobooks, you may need to do the above in the "Books" section. For a visual instruction on how to do this, see the following:
iTunes 10: Sync to your iPod

    Thanks,

  • I need help connecting my old pc to my new mac book pro.

I cannot connect my old pc to my new mac book pro. Can anyone help me through this process. Thx.

OK. Starting with iTunes: Macworld - How to transfer iTunes libraries between PC and Mac.
Get yourself an external hard drive and format it using NTFS on your PC. OS X can read from an NTFS formatted drive. Copy your photos and documents to this drive. Use the drive to transfer you iTunes data via the method outlined in the above linked article. This will prove easier and faster than using a network.
I am not experienced with PC networks. See if this is helpful: Set Up Your Home Network, Windows 7 Edition - PC World.

    Hello there, LynnS.
The following Knowledge Base article and it's referenced link should get you started with the Erase and Install of Mavericks:

  • Moving ALL files from an old iMac to a new iMac, via Firewire...

After hooking up my old iMac (2 years old) to a brand new one, via firewire, and checking every box to copy, it didn't copy my iTunes or iPhoto libraries to the new computer. Does this have to be done with DVDs, or through an iPod?
Only applications, Logic, photoshop etc. copied onto the new iMac.

  • I would like to connect my old TC to my  new TC in order to access the older files

I would like to connect my old 2TB TC to the new 3TB TC in order to access the old files.

Plug old TC into new TC by ethernet.. reset it to factory and then do the setup again.. as bridged device. No files are lost from the hard disk doing this.
Whether Yosemite can find it is another question.. Yosemite is like the guy with two brains.. one lost and the other looking for it.. it has terrible network bugs.
Only way to find out if you are affected is give it a go.
    Good luck.

  • Syncing old broken palm to new one via computer?

    Hi,
I am having a problem with my new z22.  Have downloaded all info from old cracked screen z22 which I named "old palm" as my user name.  I have added one record to my new palm with the stylus.  I am trying to get the data that is now on my computer onto my new palm which i have named "new palm".  When I connect new palm and press hotsync it says status: identifying user, user: new palm but then asks if i want to set up a  new account on this pc giving only options as ok or cancel neither of which seem to help.  Have tried lots of ways and different methods but can't work this out.  Can you help?
    Rob.

If you are syncing similar devices to palm desktop for data copy, you can use the existing username in palm desktop that has the data and sync the new device to that username.
I would suggest Hard resetting the new device, connect to the PC and when it asks to sync to a new username or existing, choose existing.
Click on the following link to the kb.palm.com webpage for the article regarding reset procedures.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887
Another option is to export the data from the old username into the new username in palm desktop. Here is a procedure for exporting and saving your data.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
Click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com webpage.
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/z22/
There are links on the page to the user guide, troubleshooting, how to's, downloads, etc.

  • "new" iMac won't connect to old iMac or to new MacBook Pro

For a while I've not been able to connect from my new i7 iMac to my old G4 iMac, although I can connect in the other direction ok. I've just gotten a new MacBook Pro, but so far I've been unable to use the Migration Assistant (MA) to transfer files etc. from the i7 iMac, which involves, as I understand it, the iMac connecting to the MBP on request from MA. This connection just doesn't ever happen.
Like the G4 iMac, however, the MBP can connect to the i7 iMac.
So, the question is what's wrong with my i7 iMac... presumably something amiss in its network settings?
    Help will be greatly appreciated

Have you looked in the Sys Prefs/Sharing pane to see that all the Macs are configured the same in regard to Sharing?
Is the new iMac's Firewall possibly interfering?
MA must be opened on both Macs to work, then follow the onscreen instructions that MA will give you on the Mac to which you wish to migrate.
What kind of network are you using; ethernet, wi-fi or a combo of both? Just for the migration a simple ethernet or FireWire cable between the two Macs will also do the trick and not need to worry about network configuration.

  • Connecting an old iPod to brand new iPhone 5 input speakers?

I just bought a new high-fi system, made for connecting to the new input of the iPhone 5, but all of my music is on my iPod classic, with old input design. Is there an adapter available for this set-up? I've only ever seen this problem the other way round and so can't find a straight answer.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Last link in the table to the iLounge article is probably all you really need for older iPods, though you'll need to use the iTunes transfer purchases command to retrieve any ClickWheel Games. Once everything is in your library you can add it to the iPhone.

  • Can I connect my old mac to my new mac using the thunderbolt to ethernet adapter

I've got a lot of data to transfer from one mac to another, one with thunderbolt and one without. I was wondering if by using the thunderbolt to ethernet adapter I could connect the two macs in a target mode kinda way.
I know people will answer with a lot of other options in how to do this, but I am specifically interested in whether or not this option is possible.
    Thanks!

you can use the adapter with any Thunderbolt-equipped Mac running OS X Lion 10.7.4 or later, but you'll want to install the Thunderbolt Software Update 1.2.1 after having the 10.7.4 upgrade

  • HT201250 old data transferred to new computer via time machine, is external hard drive still usable

I set up my new macbook from an old macbook via time machine and an external WD Harddrive.
The setup partitioned my macbook to two user id's, now I need to back up.
The old user id is backing up everything again and the new user id wants to create a new backup to my WD Harddrive like it is not used.
I don't believe that my WD was partitioned.
Help!  How can I continue using my WD and backup both user id information without losing anything?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you turn on the new iMac for the first time, Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so connect the external disk and follow steps to restore all your files to your new iMac. Your new Mac will have the same settings and programs as your old computer.
In other cases, I would recommend to restore the whole backup without using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant, but a Late 2012 iMac uses a special OS X build, so the OS X version that you're using on your old Mac won't work on the new one.
