Connecting my Powerbook (OS 10.4.11) to a TV

Hey Apple World,
I have a 12" Powerbook G4 that I want to connect to my LG 42" LCD. I'm not really sure where to start. I have a mini-DV output on my computer and the input panel on my tv looks pretty versatile since it purchased/released within the past two years. Any help or advice?
Best,

That won't work with the iPad, unless maybe there's a "control monitor" app somewhere.

    Hello!
I must to connect my Powerbook G3 with a windows computer or network. Ho can I do?
    Thank you very much,

If your PowerBook has Mac OS 9.1, you can't do it without additional (non-Apple) software. While Mac OS X has built-in Windows networking, Mac OS 9 does not.
This product allows Windows networking under Mac OS 9.

If you can give a more details about your specific needs, there may be some other solutions.

  • Connecting 2 Powerbooks

Can anyone give me a step-by-step procedure for connecting 2 Powerbooks to each other by Ethernet cable? I assume it has something to do with setting the Network System Preferences but I find it a little confusing.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
both Powerbooks have to be setup within the same ip address range, for example you can set up one as 10.0.0.10 and the other as 10.0.0.11 . Both need the proper subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
If Personal File Sharing is activated, you can mount each others hard disc. You don't need Ethernet for this, you can also use a Firewire network connection (400 Mbit isntead of 100 MBit with Ethernet) or as mentioned int he other answer, you can boot up one powerbook in target disc mode (press T after turning it on, just before or when the chime comes and wait).

  • Problems connecting my Powerbook G4 to a D-Link DI 624 access point

I am unable to connect my Powerbook G4 to my D-Link DI 624 wireless router.
    Here's my setup:
128 bit (HEX) WEP Encryption (Key Index 4)
    MAC Filtering
    "Static" DHCP
    Here's what i've done:
Added the Powerbook's on board ethernet and wireless MAC's to the MAC Filter's table
Assigned both adapters a static IP
Configured both to look at my router's IP
Copied the HEX key (verbatim) while configuring the wireless adapter
Here's the skinny... The onboard NIC works. The wireless does not.
Please tell me what i'm doing wrong. I know it's my router's configuration because I successfully connected to a friends router without any problmes.
They are using a Linksys with DHCP and encryption.
I tried changing my setting on my router to resemble my firends to no avail. I resorted in restoring my router's config from backup.
I'm a PC Tech/ Network Engineer who is treading in new territory with my G4. So far i'm wondering what in the **** took me so long to convert! However, i'm glad that I did.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND HAVE ANY INSIGHT ON MY SITUATION, PLEASE HELP!!!

You certinly have me mystified. I have a D-Link DL624 wireless router. I plugged my dsl modem into it, plugged it in to the wall, opened the lid of my powerbook, and it connected. I just thought it was supposed to be that easy!
    Sorry I wasn't much help

  • Connecting my Powerbook to my iMac for internet sharing via airport

Thanks in advance for any help.
I have given up trying to get an answer to my Airport problem and NTL Virgin.
I now have my iMac connected to web via ethernet all okay for a week now so it can't be my connection that was the problem.
I need to connect my PowerBook to the internet now at the same time. I would obviously like to do this using wireless technology. I was hoping to web share my iMacs connection via the airport cards on both macs but seem to be struggling.
I can set up a new network on the iMac and get the PowerBook to see it but it won't connect to the internet.
Any advice would be great thanks

To setup for Internet Sharing (Wired to Wireless):

o Select "Internet Sharing" from the options in the left column
o Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet
o To computers using: AirPort (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
    AirPort Options...
    o Network Name: <anything you want>
    o Channel: Automatic
o Enable encryption (using WEP) (optional)
    o Password: (optional)
    o Confirm Password: (optional)
    o WEP Key Length: (optional)

  • Connect the powerbook 15"-Display with a new G5 dual and a ACD?

    hi
i wonder if i could connect the pb 15" display with a new G5 dual and turn the pb off, only the display on?
    that would be fun.
i am working with a pb 15" and a ACD 20" with Photoshop mainly.
the 15" is the palettes‘ server and the ACD is the main working screen where i retouch my pics.
so if i buy a G5 dual now, i would have to buy a ACD30" for example to use one display for all the Photoshop Palettes and couldn use the pb 15" anymore?
any other less awkward solutions i am not aware of maybe?
    thanks"

I'm pretty sure that you can't use a PowerBook for it's display only. You already know, of course, that you can use the PowerBook, as a computer, with an external monitor, with or without the PB's own display running, but so far as I know you cannot use a PB solely for its display.
So, if you bought a G5 dual now, and bought an ACD 30", you could use both your ACD's with your new G5 dual, the 20" and the 30" , but your PowerBook would have to watch the proceedings from the sidelines.

  • Remote Desktop Connection on PowerBook, not x86 iMac

My office uses SBS2003 with VPN enabled.
Without VPN, on my PowerBook & the intel-iMac, I can "Remote Desktop Connection" into the server, then subsequently into a workstation through the server.
With the VPN connected, I can use RDC to connect directly to my workstation (say, unit01).
With VPN connected, the iMac can't connect directly to the workstation, yet it can still go through the server to the workstation as usual.
I'm suspecting this is an issue with Rosetta emulating Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection and not allowing the domain name to be recognized through the VPN.
Both computers are using the exact same settings for the VPN and attempting to use RDC exactly the same.

i've been using just the netbios name, simply because it works on my powerbook. I still don't understand why it wouldn't work on this intel-mac.
I was mainly following this guide:

  • How do i connect my powerbook G3 to the internet?

I recieved a Mac Powerbook G3 to take with me to iran to give to a less fortunate family but i have no idea how to connect to the internet (for updates and general usage) as the os is really old (10.2)
can somebody please give me step by step instructions on how to connect to the internet, either via wifi or ethernet or dial up if thats the only option.
    Thanks

It depends on which PowerBook G3 you have. The early ones had Ethernet and a 33.6K modem. The last one had fast Ethernet, a 56K modem, and an internal slot for an AirPort wifi card, which may be installed.
I can't remember exactly how 10.2 worked, but in System Preferences there should be a Network pane where you can configure the Ethernet and wifi. In most cases you can just leave them at default set to DHCP and it will connect to any Internet coffee shop or library.

I would like to access the Powerbook's hard drive from the iMac but everytine I try to do so I get an error message that says "Connection's Failed: The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again." And yes, in Sys Prefs, I have Personal File Sharing turned on on both computers BUT, everytime time I try to connect to the PB via the iMac, file sharing turns back off on the PB and I have to turn it back on....... any help would be appreciated. • Connecting a powerbook G3 to the internet via ethernet and a DSL modem. Does the G3 have the ability to do this?

I am trying to connect an older powerbook G3 (M4753) to the internet via ethernet and a DSL modem. Does the G3 have the ability to do this? I'm having alot of trouble. G3 Dialog box states the DHCP server will populate IP address, etc. It does not. The G3 also insists I enter the DHCP client ID.

  • How can I connect my PowerBook G4 to my friend's Internet service?

My friend has a new iMac G5 and I'm going to her home to teach her some Mac tricks. I want to bring my laptop so I can show her how to download photos, mail, etc. How will I hook up to her Internet service?
At my home, I have a network that works between my iMacG5 and my PowerBook. But she only has a modem that gives her access to the Internet.
Will my PowerBook be able to recognize her Internet connection, or is there something more I'll need to do?
    Thanks!

When you get to her house you can look at her menu bar to see if there is an Airport icon up there. If not, there may not be a card, although the icon can also be removed. For certainty, check her System Profiler. If there is an AirPort wireless card in there, that will tell you.
If she does not have an AirPort card but her DSL modem has multiple ports, or if it is connected to a router that has multiple ports, just bring your own Ethernet cable and plug it into your Ethernet port.
If she doesn't have wireless or multiple wired ports from her modem, I don't know! Maybe you could bring a FireWire cable and try sharing her Internet connection using FireWire networking (same procedure as Silent One said but with a slightly different network selection), but I've never tried that although it could work in theory.

  • Connecting a Powerbook G4 12-inch to HD TV

Does anyone know or can they recommend which cable is best to connect a 12-inch Powerbook G4 to a HD TV? (the TV has component, HDMI, S-Video, Scart connections)
Through it's production span I think the Powerbook was built with two different ports on the left hand side, mine was one of the last made before the introduction of the Intel Macs.
Apologies for not getting very technical with this question!
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards
    Ollie

Yours is like mine, if it is the last to roll out before the Intel-based MacBooks and MacBook Pros. (Gross! I love my 12-inch PowerBook!).
We have the mini-DVI port and to get a digital signal to the TV, all you need to do is connect it via DVI. I've been able to play HD content in crystal clear resolution by being connected that way.
I have never tried connecting via HDMI, which probably gives true HD resolution (if it was crystal in DVI, I'd love to see it in native resolution!!), but as you can see from this external link, they state that there is no difference in image quality between DVI and HDMI:
    http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/122868.html
So, you can get away by using the mini-DVI to DVI adapter that should have come with your PowerBook, connect a DVI cable from that to your TV, and you should be set! (If you want HDMI, you'll have to get a DVI to HDMI adapter to connect to your mini-DVI to DVI Apple adapter first).
**by the way, I have a 26" Olevia LCD TV with HD, that I got from CompUSA. (Now I just have to buy an tv one of these days and I'm "set").
