Connecting my WRT610N with my other Modem\Router (Philips ADSL Modem\Router)

Hi, I recently purchased a WRT610N Dual Band router and I have some questions to ask. I plugged the UTP cable (blue one) from my modem's\router's (Philips) ethernet port 4 to "Internet" port of the WRT610N router. In "Basic" Setup I chose "PPPoE Connection" (my ISP here in Greece working in PPPoE) and everything gone fine. WRT610N seems to log to Internet and everything is OK....but... In those 2-3 days that I'm working on it, I am curious in How this works.. and if my setup is 100% ok because I one bizzare problem.. the problem is that I run a DynDNS.com Client application, cause I wanna have Remote access from my work. this client has logs, I reviewed the log and I see that every 10 or 20 minutes (exactly 10 or exactly 20) my IP is different.. (I use dynamic IP from my ISP)...and I ask : What I have to do to the MODEM\ROUTER from one side and WRT610N on the other side? What setup? What exactly I must do to be 100% sure that everything is working fine? NAT ? firewalls from the two routers? DHCP ? In general I mean... Thanks and.. sorry for my English.. (I'm from Greece so.. )

    Hi fox_mulder ,
I would like to thank you for your answer.
Your answer for the first question was very clear that I do not need to buy ADSL modem.
For Second question, it is also clear answer. However, third answer does not answer my question which is " how can I utilize TrendMicro to prevent Spam mail through WRVS4400N Router.

  • WOL - add router between ADSL modem and computer?

    Hi
My computer is connected to a Livebox ADSL modem (the Sagem F@ast 3202).
I am trying set the system up so it wakes up from sleep at the reception of a magic packet from the internet. I have forwarded port 9 as per instrux on the web. The computer wakes up only sporadically though.
I read long ago somewhere online (but can't for the life of me find it) that one can add another router (between the Livebox and the computer, I assume) which would "listen" for the magic packet and then wake up the computer.
I happen to have an old DLink DSL-604+. Is this something I could add to the chain of equipment to make the setup more stable? If so, how should the DLink be configured?
    Thanks for any insight.
    /p

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I've looked in the settings on the Livebox and find, under the Firewall tab, something called Access control. It lets me defined a username, password and port using which I may access the Livebox's setup page from the internet.
Apart from this, I find under the Firewall tab something called Policies and NAT but neither appears to be relevant to me. If there's any other disconnect setting I can't find it. I guess it could be in the flash ROM somewhere.
My test indicates that I can access the Livebox setup page without the computer having to be on (obvious). Is there some way to start a sleeping computer from within such a setup page (longshot)?

Hi Everyone. I've got two M-Audio Solo box's. Is there any way i connect those two with each other so i can use both at the same time in GB?
    Many thanks!!!

Just plug them in and create an aggregate device that consists of them. You can open Audio MIDI Setup utility and search its help for "Aggregate" to find out how, or if you want a step by step, here's a tut:

  • Time Capsule & ADSL Modem - Losing Internet Connection

My ISP is Earthlink which I access via a DSL connection. I use a Zyxel P-600 series ADSL modem to connect and recently purchased a Time Capsule to replace a NetGear router & separate network drive. Since installing time capsule, I've been losing connection to the Internet. I have the Zyxel set in "bridge mode" so there should be no interference with TC acting as a router. I also was experiencing disconnects with the NetGear router but not as often. Ideas?

How does the computer connect to your internet connection??
What type is it? Modem? Router? Wireless? ADSL?
You are not giving away any information. We need something to work with.
TC are designed to plug into a modem or router by ethernet. If you have wireless only internet they can join the network but it kills the functionality down to slow useless wireless client.

  • Airport Express worked with previous ADSL modem, not working with new one

    hello all.
maybe the majority of you people won't be able to help me, since i am in Brazil.
    this is the story:
for the last 4 years i was a subscriber of the Speedy ADSL provider (in conjunction with the Terra content provider). the Sppedy service is part of the Telefonica telephone company and uses the regular telephone infrastructure to provide the ADSL signal thru telephone lines.
approximately 2 years ago i bought an Airport Express and set it up with the ADSL modem that Speedy provided to me. configuration was a breeze and it worked flawlessly since then.
as of last thursday (april 7th) i became a subscriber of the Ajato ADSL provider. the Ajato company is part of the TVA (cable tv) company and uses the TVA cable tv infrastructure to provide the ADSL signal.
the problem is: when i connect the Cisco DPC3000 ADSL modem to my Macbook via ethernet cable, i can surf the internet with Ajato with no problems. but when i connect the modem to my Airport Express (even though i have reset AE in order to clear the previous Speedy/Terra configuration), i get no internet in my home wireless network.
i know you guys don't have Ajato there, of course. but i suppose some of you might have faced similar problems in similar cable ADSL environments.
this said, any kind of help or hint is greatly appreciated.

First that Cisco DPC3000 is a cable modem, not a ADSL modem. You probably don't need the DSL configuration that you had before.
when i connect the modem to my Airport Express (even though i have reset AE in order to clear the previous Speedy/Terra configuration), i get no internet in my home wireless network.
How did you "reset" the AE? How is it configured now? You probably need a setting of "Connect Using:" "Ethernet", rather than the "PPPoE" setting you may have had before.
If everything else looks good, it's common to have to reset a modem when switching what device is connected to it. Try powering down the modem for a few minutes. If it has a reset switch, press that.

  • Recommend me wireless ADSL modem router which supports IPv6

As the topic says. My previous device broke up contract with me and since my ISP supports IPv6 (at least in theory) I'd like to set up IPv6 network at home.
    Thanks...

I did not mean to imply that Netopia was the only maker, you asked for a combo wireless router and ADSL modem; that was what came to mind.
IPv6 is has not been finalized and there are still many other aspects of the protocol that need to be finished before it is just dumped into the public. Also you need to think about the scale that we are dealing with when we are talking about changing from IPv4 to v6. There are not too many things between the two that are similar. Remember that the reason for IPv6 is not because its a newer thing, it is because we are running out of v4 addresses, but in the PUBLIC realm. Internally even large companies have an abundant of addresses using the private ranges such as 10.1.x.x; 172.16.x.x and 192.168.x.x for each class A,B,C respectively. The great advantage if v6 is that we will no longer have to use NAT, which can be problematic depending on how it is implemented. Right now when IPv6 is used it is actually being NATed from IPv6 to v4, and believe it or not that is what you will end up doing if you make your internal network v6. So you see there is no reason for any mfg. to hype IPv6 when it is still a mute point. We will start seeing more and more IPv6 within the next couple or years and once more large corporations begin to implement and are used to work out all of the kinks will we start seeing packaging hyping v6.

  • Link two LRT224 with each other using VPN

What's the best way to connect two LRT224 with each other, which are in two different citys?
    Open VPN or IPSec?
I think Gateway to Gateway should be the right mode, but I am very unsure with the lot of settings ...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try the EasyLink VPN feature of LRT214/LRT224, which simplifies the site-to-site VPN setup.
    http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=03cf456383fc4d958cf918110c7fcd42_How_to_configure_...
EasyLink VPN works in the following way conceptually.
    1. At the primary site, enable EasyLink VPN Server (inbound tab on the Web GUI) and create an account (username/password) for each remote site.
    2. At a remote site, enable EasyLink VPN Client (outbound tab on the Web GUI), and enters the matching account credentials (username/password).
    3. The remote site will automatically reach out to the primary site to establish an IPsec tunnel.
Note: LRT224 can support up to five EasyLink VPN peers in a star VPN topology.

  • How to connect linksys wrt120n with ubee modem+router on twc.

    Hi,
I have a twc connection with a ubee modem+router, it keeps on dropping connection all the time, i googled about it and came to know that if we just use the ubee device as a modem and install our own router along with it, it works fine. I have a linksys wrt120n and i tried installing it but it is not working, the internet is not working. When i try to do it with the CD, it hangs up in between and i tried manually but i am missing something in the settings may be.
    Help anyone?
    Mukul

If you ubee modem router is set to bridge mode then there will be no wifi signal.  If you still have a wifi signal, you need to call your ISP and have them verify it is in bridge mode.

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch and just did the update to IOS 5. Now I can't connect to my Netgear wifi router. My iPhone connects fine along with all of my other laptops etc. I have the router set with WPA-PSK [TKIP] security and an access list. I've confirmed the mac address is included on that list and that the password is correct. Under choses netwrok I select the network and it just goes into a spin. I have tried removing the password and the access list settings and it still will not complete the connection to the router thus no internet access. The routers firmware is also up to date. This thing worked fine before this update and I've already tried to restore from backup. Any ideas or is the wifi nic bad in this thing with the new apple firmware update? Any fix?

Thanks Bob, I don't know why but it all of a sudden worked a few days later. It's a mystery but at least problem solved.

  • WIFI stopped working after I woke the computer up, now says connected to the network but not the internet, all other coputers and devices connected still with no problems, have pinged IP address from router and got the message "4 packets sent none receive

    Hi,
WIFI stopped working after I woke the computer up, now says connected to the network but not the internet, all other coputers and devices connected still with no problems, have pinged IP address from router and got the message "4 packets sent none received"... Help
I have tried network diagnostics which doesnt help... The only other ting is, when I woke the computer up it said tat another device was using my IP... My wife had plugged her phone into the computer to charge etc but even when i turn wifi off on the phone there is no change... also in settings on the phone the IP address is different...

The answer to your question is - neither!
Your PC should to configured to obtain an IP address automatically, and to obtain DNS server IP addresses automatically, from the Airport Express. This is the way Windows (and Macs for that matter) are configued by default, and that is the way most people have their computers set up. If you manually configured your PC's IP address to be the same as your wife's Mac, it certainly explains why your PC is not able to access the internet.

  • Since upgrading, both our wireless printers are still visible, but OSX will not connect with them.  Both work via connecting from other sources via the same wireless router (airport).  What do I need to do to get my printing/scanning working again?

Since upgrading, both our wireless printers are still visible, but OSX will not connect with them.  Both work via connecting from other sources via the same wireless router (airport).  What do I need to do to get my printing/scanning working again?

First thing to try is reset Printing System:
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
Next would be reset the router (power off 15 secs then back on). And, 2 minutes later, reset the printers 1 by 1.

  • 1)   should this be connected to the router to work?  2) if connected, it interferes with other PCs on the network, and 3) should this help me print from my mac?

not familiar with macs.    whenever the airport express is connected to my router, it messes up connectivity for my PC..  bought this to be able to print to a canon pixma mp6120.  will it work for that?

How is the express connected to your router? It does have to be connected if you intend to print through it.
The best method of connection is ethernet to WAN port of the express.. assuming a new one. The worst method is wireless. When you do wireless connection it can mess up other computers. So my recommend is to test with ethernet even if the printer is not nearby and see if the problem goes away.
The Express has to be bridged.. and has to be setup to create a wireless network in this setup..
Post screenshots from the airport utility if you cannot get it to work.
The express will enable you to print over the network to a printer plugged in by USB.. mostly!! It is far from foolproof.. it is also limited in lots of ways.. ie print only in one direction.. no info from the printer will get back to the computer. It is a poor way to do things..
You should return the express and buy a wireless printer.. that is far better solution to your problem. Printers remember are cheap.. it is the ink  or toner that costs heaps.
