Connecting nano to itunes

I dont want to store all my MUSIC in Itunes because I have other memo files. How do I set the settings on the nano so that when I connect to the computor it doesn't erase all music previously put on on the nano? Thank-you PC
  Mac OS X (10.4.5)

PC. - as you were told, changing to manual management will let you delete music from your computer and keep it on the iPod. However I want to caution you about this practice. iPods are fragile. They are easy to lose. They get put in the washer (and don't like it). I know way too many people who have chosen to do what you are thinking of doing who lost their music when something happened to their iPod. Before deleting your music from the computer BACK IT UP!

  • Can't connect nano to itunes

I just bought a nano ipod on ebay, the ipod wasn't used, but it was returned to a store. The problem is, my itunes is not reconizing the device at all. When I connect to my computer nothing happens. Can someone help me get all m songs onto my new ipod? Thanks.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.

Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto th nano. My laptop crashed whitch had all my new music, and im afraid if I sync my Ipod touch to the desktop with all my old songs, ill lose all my newer ones which I dont want to happen because I want them on my nano. Im sorry for the confusing topic im just so lost.

All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
    Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
    Now just synch the iPod.

  • Is it possible to find the serial of the last connected device (iPod Nano) in itunes?

Is it possible to find the serial of the last connected device (iPod Nano) in itunes? Was stolen, trying to get info on my device.

iTunes will only show the serial number for iOS devices backed up using iTunes (and the iPod nano is not an iOS device). For alternative ways to find the serial number, see:
    On your iPod packaging
If you still have the original packaging for your iPod, you can find your serial number on the barcode label that's affixed to the packaging.
On your iPod invoice or receipt
Some retailers may include the serial number of your iPod on the receipt.
    Online at My Support Profile
If you used your Apple ID to register or purchase your iPod, you may find the serial number listed in My Support Profile (available in the United States and Canada). Log in with your Apple ID and find your iPod in the My Products box on the main page:
From iPod: How to find the serial number.

  • When you connect ipod nano to itunes is there a way to stop it deleteing the albums on it if they are not on my laptop anymore

when you connect ipod nano to itunes is there a way to stop it deleteing the albums on it if they are not on my laptop anymore

Yes, do not set it to automatic sync, and if these albums are purchases in iTunes, then you need to transfer them to your iTunes library. If you attempt to sync the device the music sync is one way, only from the library to the device. If this is music you did not purchase, but is on the iPod, you will need to get some 3rd party software to extract it from the iPod to put in the library. Touchcopy from Wide Angle Software is one choice. I have used it before and it does a lot more than music, and it works on both the Windows and Mac platforms.

  • Unable to Connect iPod Nano to iTunes (On Main PC)

    Hello All,
Trying to help my sister with her iPod Nano (7th Gen). When I plug this into her computer it has a popup recognising that an iPod is plugged in, but doesn't show it on the sidebar or go any further with that. ("More Info" goes to a support page where I have completed all of the steps)
I have plugged it into my computer and its recognised right away. How can I get this to work on her computer?
I believe the problem is on her computer and not a fault with the iPod.
I have tried different ports, tried resetting (both PC and iPod), Factory reset iPod, reinstalling iTunes. Uninstalled drivers in Device manager and scanned for new devices etc.
One thing which may be relevant, is that the device manager shows it as an "Unknown Device", but I can't get it to find the driver.
    Many thanks! Tom
PS: Both PC's (Hers and mine) are running the latest verisons of iTunes. and Windows 8.1. When I plugged her iPod into my PC, I updated it to the latest firmware.
PS2: Connectivity tests in iTunes on her pc does not find an iPod.

  • Error message: itunes could not connect to the itunes store

    Hi All,
I'm a rookie to the whol Apple ipod nano, etc, etc. I bought the generation 3 nano yesterday. I successfully downloaded a CD to the nano, but when i tried to download a tv show and open itunes i get the follow error message:
"itunes could not connect to the itunes store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
The funny thing is, is that i'm not even on a network. I'm just doing this from home and not connected to a network. internet connection works, I ran the diagnostic and nothing weird came up? Any suggestion for a newbee.

Hi, I am having the same problem and I get the message: "iTUNES could not connect to the iTUNES store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again." I just downloaded 2 songs no problem, after uploading the latest version on iTUNES online. I closed the program and tried again, same message. My cable internet connection works just fine, so I am assuming the problem is on their end. I will check in with you guys to see if someone figured it out.
    Thanks

  • ITunes Gift Card and now "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store."

My wife was using my computer yesterday and was entering in a gift card number that I gave her. Well, the card had a number missing or something and she tried all types of combinations. After some time she showed me an error (-50 if I recall) and since then I get "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
It had been working for weeks. So now, I tried a few other applications to get some more information and I found this:
    Failed 'authorizeMachine':null
So, can someone tell me what to do, or remove my MAC address from Apple's iTunes store anti-scripting program
Please email me with a resolution.
    Nicolas

Me too. I upgraded to 7.02 iTunes. It hasn't happened before till the new upgrade. I'm using Windows 2000. I even renamed My Music, iTunes and iPod to "Old" and reinstalled the disc that came with my iPod Nano. It still will not connect. Make sure your Firewall is not being used while trying to connect. Or your ISP is probably prohibiting use to iTunes Music Store. Maybe a Anti-Virus Software program.
If Apple is trying to fix their bugs due to the new upgrade the are giving, they need to give free music for the inconvenience of their customers not being able to connect. My internet connection is active. My husband is a network guru and even he is surprised it doesn't work. Maybe my Hughes.net ISP is prohibiting use. We are trying everything.
Good Luck to everyone. If you find a solution that works, please email me. Thank you.

  • Can't drag movies into my nano from itunes

I have a Nano 5th gen and when i connect it to itunes and try to sync movies i get a message saying that the movie can not be played on my ipod. can anybody help?

    Hello RP 24,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Were these videos purchased from the iTunes store or imported from your own collection?
If they were imported to your iTunes library, trying using iTunes built in converter to convert the iPod to a more iPod friendly format. To do this, locate the video you wish to sync to your iPod, right->click on it and choose "create iPod or iPhone version" from the shortcut menu (or via the Advanced drop down menu). When it has finished converting, try syncing the new version to your iPod and see if that helps.
    Hope this helps.

iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes

If you see your iPod in My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8) but not in iTunes under Devices, try these steps. Start at the top and work your way through the steps until iTunes recognizes your iPod.
If you don't see your iPod in My Computer, follow these steps.
This document is for Windows users and most older iPod models. See the following articles if you have this issue on:
    A Mac
An iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch)
An iPod nano (5th or 6th generation) (and you see an alert message in iTunes when you connect the device)
