Connecting Nano to PC causes other USB devices to unconnect from USB2 ports. USB2 are on a pci card. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening?

I have Satellite M70-159 and I didnt notice any strange problem with USB ports. I use a few of them like printer, webcam, USB memory stick, optical mouse and external HDD. The devices are recognized properly and I remove them always without safe remove option.
Now I have Vista preinstalled and till now there is no problem. If I understood you right USB ports are working well but there is problem with USB modem only. Am I right?
Try also to contact modem producer support. Maybe is issue like this known and hopefully they have some logical explanation.

When ejecting an iPod Nano 4g from iTunes under Windows Vista, all other USB devices attached to the computer are also ejected at the same time (external hard drives, thumb drives, scanners, etc.). Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
Express is slow ethernet.. 10/100 only. The max speed of any connection to a USB hard disk is limited severely by the 100mbit..
USB is always slow btw.. This is actually a poor way to share a drive. A cheap NAS.. ie ethernet to Sata directly is far far superior and a single disk NAS can be had cheaply.. you will never get close with USB in network situations.
If you use a hub though, you can plug multiple disks into an Extreme.. I guess the network speed is at least no worse than the USB hub -- ethernet devices which are lousy as a whole.
Never forget you have the fastest ethernet adapters and fastest possible connectors already on computers on the network.. people are so utterly mesmerized by NAS they forget.. a FW800 or better USB3 if you have a newer computer shared to the network from a computer has much higher throughput and is much cheaper than even the very low end network stand alone boxes. -
you are running the latest version of iTunes, have no other USB devices attached, have no security software installed, and are directly connected to your ISP source, simply restarting the computer and the iOS device can clear up certain issues that could prevent you from restoring. After restarting the computer and iOS device, attempt to restore again.
How big is your library? I would recommend the following troubleshooting steps:
- Backup your library. Always a good idea before messing with things.
- Create a new library. Refer to this article for details: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589. This won't delete your old library, you're just creating a new empty one. Also refer to this article to get back to your old library later.
- Add a few albums into this new library. Not everything, just a small sampling, as a test.
- Activate Match on this new library. You shouldn't have to re-pay, it should just say "Add Computer" or similar.
- At this point, Match should run again. With just a few albums it should complete in just a few minutes.
If iTunes doesn't crash at this point, then likely there's something about your original library that Match doesn't like - what that is I don't know, but at least you'll know it's not your PC. If iTunes still crashes, then if could be a number of other things, but probably not your library. My next suggestion (if you haven't already done this) is to uninstall / reinstall iTunes. If that doesn't work, then my next ideas you won't like. -
Why would my iPod nano suddenly not recognise its USB device? What the???? Cannot sychronise or transfer my music from my PC, had a back up USB & does not recognise this either. Please can s'one advise?

My MacBook Pro will not connect to my home wifi but will connect everywhere else. My other Apple devices (I-pad, I-touch, another MacBook Pro) connect to the router without problems. It was working fine but all of a sudden stopped working.Thanks!
try this.
get back into your router's settings and start deleting devices that are not connected to your router.
you can also delete the ones that are connected - they'll connect again.
on the DHCP side of it, increase the amount of users that can connect/log in to your router.
see if that sorts it out for you.

I see "imac-54f9d5" under the "Shared" heading in my finder. I am not connected to any printers or other Mac devices. Is it possible that someone is remotely accessing my system? How can I figure out what this is?

Is anyone having problems with external USB hard drives or any other USB peripheral when his iPhone is connected to a Windows PC or sometime after that?
I'm having some problems with external USB hard drives when the Windows system is continuously hammering them for more than a half-hour. The problem is not easily reproducable, and I don't know the cause.
It probably has nothing to do with the iPhone. But one possibility I have to consider is that the iPhone draws enough current (or something else I haven't thought of) that interefers with the USB communications.What I meant in my previous post was that the USB wouldn't allow the iPhone to draw more current than the USB can safely provide, unless it was defective. I have an external hardrive, a wireless mouse, my printer and my iPhone connected directly to my laptop's USB ports and have not seen any problems with any of them. In several years of using USB devices, I've not seen any problems that I could assign to the USB ports/controllers... they just seem to work all the time. Will be interested as to your findings.

HP Laserjet 1022 and Other USB Devices
Hi All,
I have an issue with a HP Laserjet 1022 printer and a HP Pavilion A145.uk desktop computer.
When the printer is connected to the computer it all works fine, when I try to insert a Kingston flash drive all I get is a message saying USB Device not recognised.
I have tried installing the lastest drivers for the printer on the computer but I still get the issue and it becoming very annoying.
I have searched the internet and tried all of the registry 'hacks' to try and resolve this but its still an issue.

The problem is with the cable.
I had a similar problem for about 2 years where my LJ 1022 would only work with a single Windows XP PC I had. It would not work with the new vista PC I got. I kept getting "usb device not recognised" whenever I tried installing the printer. I thought that it was a problem with the Vista software drivers but when my Windows XP machine died and I tried unsuccessfully to get it to work with 3 other XP machines I realized that it wasn't the operating system.
HP Tech Support and all the forums I found kept telling me to upggrade the drivers and download this and that. None worked. I found a note from one other person facing similar frustrations that indicated that his USB cable was going bad and he decided to replace it - only to find that the printer refused to work with the new ones he got. His last entry was that he was going to get a serial cable from HP. I think this is your best bet.
I tried another usb cable I had (no lable on it) and it has been working perfectly ever since. I have now tried it on about 4 PCs (XP & Vista) and it works on all. I don't know what it is but there is some difference among USB serial cables - which I intend to find out.
Try the cable my friend and let me know how it goes.

I understand that floppy disks will not work at all due to unavailability of drivers (though I wish Sun would qualify a driver and a floppy for legacy, let me know if I am incorrect please)
I have checked http://www.sun.com/io_technologies/sunray.html. What is the statement on CDroms. I don't see any there.
I have tried hooking one up (IOmega) and find that nothing gets recognized until a CD is placed into drive. then the drive sees the data, but ultimately hangs and is unusable. the disk will not eject pressing the eject button either. is there a process to follow to read the data consistently without hanging? is there a command to eject the disk under sun connector?

I have had good success with the "general" connection to the sunray using JDS default desktop. I can make the usb stick work as well as the CDrom. I agree with you about the device and the uteject command. it works well from the default desktop.
using sunray connector, I know the system sees the data because I can "CD" to the device (running uttsc -m -b -r disk:USB=/tmp/SUNWut/mnt/$USER/usbdisk") from the windows system. the disk got hung up in the past on an install of a product (perhaps not the best test). The install began and then just stopped. by the way, in a second window that connected to solaris, I can see the proper directories created under /tmp/SUNWut/mnt/$USER)
perhaps considering the hang a fluke, the interesting thing is to get the CD to eject under windows. as you stated, it is a mountpoint. I tried having "utaction" call for an eject disk upon entry or exit to the program. the idea is to have a "station" where you put your card in, use the CDrom, finish, pull your card out, and it would eject your CD. not the best solution, but OK. (machine set up with CARD USERS/CAM mode and NOCARD/none) but could not get this to work. I am guessing here, but as soon as you remove your card, the USB device gets owned by root ( I saw the device move to root in the /tmp/SUNWut/mnt area), and utaction with a uteject does not work since you don't own the disk anymore.
if you have any further ideas on how to get a CDrom drive to work under sun connector, I would appreciate it. Since I am considering a station for CD access, some kind a background daemon that could eject the CD when card is not in the sunray would be good.

I am trying to set up my daughters ipod touch after resetting it to factory settings. So I am trying to sign in using an apple id. It says won't connect to the servier, but I have other wireless devices connected, so I know my wi fi is working. What now? Thanks

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

I have an IPad 1 with 16 G of memory and wiFi only. For the last 2 days it has been dropping off of the wireless network repeatedly. I have a wireless laptop next to it that is fine. I am working where I normally do and have had no problems until the last couple of days. My other IPad works just fine and my macbook pro is also having no problems. Does any one have any idea where to begin troubleshooting?
Just a follow up with a successful ending, I think.
Got the replacement iPad2. Synced it on itunes, put in my old SIM card, and tried it out. I was heartbroken when it had exactly the same problem with wifi connectivity! Dropped my home wifi connection every few minutes or seconds. Had to be prompted to find home network.
Then I tried turning OFF "Ask to Join Networks" as suggested by another poster on Apple Support. Suddenly, I had steady wifi connectivity. I left it that way overnight and even when I woke it from hibernating, it was still connected to wifi!!
Thinking I found the answer, I decided to go back to my original iPad2. I had previously used "Erase All Content and Settings" when I received the replacement iPad2 and so, had to Restore from my iTunes. After doing that, my original iPad2 now holds a wifi connection!! (And I did NOT turn off "Ask to Join Networks".)
So was it fixed by my erasing all content and settings and then restoring it back? Maybe. I called Apple Support again and they did not have any answers or suggestions. They did say that turning off "Ask to Join Networks" would have no effect on connectivity but it did stop the iPad to keep prompting me to choose a network to join!
I would be interested if this "fix" works for anyone else because I see it is a fairly common complaint.
