Connecting Network Printer to New Wireless Network

We just changed our router from one our normal phone company provided to a mobile "hot spot" from our cellular phone compnay.  We have a HP Deskjet 6980 that I need to switch to the new network but the new router doesn't have any "SecureEasySetup" button or any ethernet or USB ports to connect to.  How do I get the printer to recognize the new network?

Hi hjmcm,
I hate to hear you are having issues.  If the router does not have a WPS button or Ethernet ports, we are limited in the ability to connect the device to the network.  If you currently have a computer running an operating system that coincides with the original software CD or you have an XP machine this may be possible.  Due to the age of the product, this would require the full feature software to be installed on an operating system of XP or earlier with a USB cable, then converted to wireless.  For additional information about this product, Click Here.
Try this:
1. Locate original software CD or download the full feature software for an XP machine from Here
2. Install the unit with a USB cable
3. Convert connection type (see below)
To change a USB connection to a wireless connection
1. Unplug the USB connection from the back of the printer.
2. Insert the printer software CD in the computer CD-ROM drive or access setup through HP folder (start-all programs-HP folder-device name) if installed with download, and then follow the on screen instructions. This runs the Setup Wizard.
3. On the Connection Type screen, select Wireless, and then click Next.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the network installation.
5. When the installation is complete, open Printers and Faxes in Control Panel and delete the printers for the USB installation.
Hope this helps!

  • Connect 6800 printer to new router

I have searched all the HP pages and this forum and haven't found an answer that works. I have a Deskjet 6840 printer and just had to buy a new router (linksys N750) and cannot connect the printer via wireless.
With this model I cannot use the setup disk because it is 2 or 3 Windows OS systems old.  I am able to connect the printer to the router via ethernet cable, and can get to the printer app screen on my PC  via the IP address the printer gives me.  When I try to set up the wireless that way, it allows me through all the steps. But it still won't connect.
Also, yes to the following:  Drivers are up to date, router is working with every other device, the SSID and key I'm using are correct.
Can someone please tell me the steps to do this correctly? If my printer has now become obsolete, please break it to me gently.

    Thoughts:
You might try assigning a static IP address for the printer at the router.
If you are using MAC filtering on the router to protect your network, make sure the printer's MAC address is added to the "allow" list in the Wireless setup.
Try moving the router - as little as a few inches may help; remember that Wireless "g" is susceptible to interference.
Make sure the router is set to respond to 801.11g -- as far as I know, all routers do this by default; it does not hurt to check the setup.
There is such a thing as "too close": make sure the router and the printer are at least 1.5 meters apart (about three feet).
Make sure you install the Update for the network reliability (from Category "Update"):
Windows 7 Critical Update to enhance reliability of network connection

  • Can't Connect OfficeJet 7410 to new wireless network - used to work on old one

Hi, I'm on a Mac OS.  I just upgraded my wireless network to use an airport extreme.  I have a verizon fios router - same as I had when it used to connect.  The only change was adding the airport extreme.  Now, the officejet 7410 all-in-one will not connect to the wireless connect.  It SEES the name of the network, and asks me for a WEP Key, which it didn't used to do.  It used to ask me for the network password.  I found the WEP key on the router and it acts like it is trying to connect but takes a long time and then gives me an error.  One time it never gave me an error and seemed like it had worked, but was not connected.  It just gave up.
My configuration page indicates offline with no active connection and wireless status disconnected.
I restarted everything with no change.  I don't know why it would be asking me for a WEP key this time and then not accept it but that was the first indication that something was different when it didn't ask me for the network password.
Also, as a separate issue but related.  In trying to fix this, I deleted my drivers to reinstall and see if I started over that it would work.  That created another problem in that now it seems that HP no longer supports a driver for this printer.  Is that even possible?  It's not that old.  It says it does not exist on the software update.  Please help!

    Hi YSJA,
I'm sorry to hear you've had problems accessing your Officejet 7410 since adding the AirPort Extreme to your home network.

Can I connect my Officejet Pro 8600 by Usb and wireless at the same time, I have a very slow Network at this time.

    Hello gilldenc
To answer you question yes. You can have one computer attached via USB and to a wireless router at the same time. What router are you using? Is it your internet connection that is slow? Usually your internal home network is much faster than your internet speed.

  • How do I connect my printer to work wirelessly?

I cannot figure out how to print via wireless. I got the printer when I bought my Mac, it's a HP Photosmart C4680
The printer works with our PC (not wireless), but I'd like to be able to use it with my Mac and have no idea how to do it.
Can anyone help me - I'm not very good at this techie stuff - thanks!

Does the printer have built-in wireless capability? How is the printer currently connected? If it's connected directly to your PC, then you would have to enable printer sharing in Windows. Then you would have to have some sort of wireless network to which both computers connect. If the shared printer is then detected on the Mac it can be added so long as you have a compatible printer driver installed (and the driver supports wireless printing.)
For tech support with the printer contact HP via their web site and/or read the user manual that came with the printer.
For help with sharing printers consult Windows Help for how to enable printer sharing. On the Mac use Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu to locate help on connecting to shared printers.

The printer can be associated with the new router by using the wireless setup wizard.  Press the setup button and navigate to network and then the wireless setup wizard.  You have to know the SSID of the new router and also any security settings.
Another method is to use the software CD on the computer:

  • Can't connect to internet with new wireless n "Extreme" modem

I've had a D-Link DI-604 router for about 4 years-- and wanted to go wireless with an Apple Extreme but first have borrowed my neighbor's D-Link DIR-635 to just see if this will work in my brick house etc. (3 stories, lots of cement and brick...)
Well I get as far as the 192.168.0.1 and then "clone" my MAC address (nothing to do with a Macintosh that...). Note: I was using the same computer to connect to the internet as I previously had used with the D-Link DI-604.
I also give a manual (easy-to-remember) 5-letter password to my wireless connection--
But although this "reboots" the modem, it does NOT let me connect to the internet...
So I'm back to my D-Link 604 cable (wired) only...
One thing the set-up asked for is my HOST name. The only thing I see in the Network System Preferences is an ethernet number: 00:16:cb:cd:6c:3e but I don't find a "HOST" name-- and is that really needed? (In Belgium I'm using an ISP provider "VOO")
Any comments really appreciated-- I could actually see a fairly strong signal from the wireless router (I named it "SteveHermee" and I could see strong bands even from the top floor, with router in the basement...)-- but I could never connect to the internet via CABLE (wired) or wireless.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • How do I get Epson printer to print on photo paper? See no option on iMac  Works great on PC. printer/Mac new wireless printere.

I have a new iMac and new Epson WF-2540 wireless printer.  I can print text, but my photo's are BAD.  I do not see an option on the Mac to change the default paper to photo paper, I think would solve the problem.  I don't see many options on the Mac like I have on the PC, shouldn't they be about the same?  The printer works like a charm on my PC, what am I missing?

You might find the Epson software is not compatible with Mountain Lion in which case you will have to download Apple's own drivers/software. You will still be able to successfully print. Apple no longer support the powerpc/rosetta chip/driver so hence manufacturers own software cannot be downloaded. Does not stop you from printing !!!!!
As has already been mentioned, check your print options and there is an option to select your paper choice.

  • Connecting HP Laserjet P1102W to wireless network (then getting drivers!)

    Hi,
My macbook pro and HP LASERJET P1102W seemed to be communicating just fine when I had snow leapard.  Post update to Mountain Lion, problems.
I have gotten the printer to work when connected via USB, however not consistently.  (Often it cannot recognize when paper tray is filled, cannot do two sided printing and has other issues perhaps connected to the fact that software is missing?)
I have read the documentation on HP site, noting that the only way to install drivers is via a network connecton and airprint which requires a network connection.
Not sure this is the right place to ask this, but I will for now:
How do I connect my printer to my network, which is a new home network as I just changed from DSL to Cable?
Note:  I had not previously ever connected my printer to my wireless network and set it up to work with Airprint, though that is one of the reasons I bought it.
Once I do connect the printer to my wireless network, perhaps then I can try to follow the steps on the HP site   http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03425022&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &os=4142&product=4110396&sw_lang=
If anyone has experience with the above, I would love to hear it!
Final question:  Is plugging the printer into the back of the new cable modem via ethernet or USB perhaps a way to put it on the wireless network?  Not a convenient location, but if only alternative, I would try it.
    THANKS!
    Ani

    Dear Happy-to-Help,
I appreciate you logging in to help. I shall give this a shot in the next couple of days when I have more time and let you know how it goes.
I have been quite frustrated by the fact that HP says if the HP Laserjet P1102W has worked fine with Snow Leapord and one upgrades to Mountain Lion, all the drivers will be automatically upgraded/updated (or whatever the term).  That has not been the case at all.   It took quite a bit to even get my computer and printer to talk to one another via a USB connection—with none of the functions of the printer (as noted above) working properly to this day.
I hope your suggestion works.  Will be back in touch to let you know.

  • Unable to connect EA4500 with HP 1525NW wireless printer

I recently switched from an old linksys router to a new EA4500.  Before I had no trouble connecting my wireless HP printer using the WPS setup.  However with the new EA4500, I tried multiple times without success.
Here is a solution I found online.  It works.  I had to use the original installation disks that came with the printer to reinstall the software and manually - using a USB - connected my printer to my wireless network.
Method three: Standard connection using a USB cable
If your wireless router does not support WiFi-Protected Setup (WPS), you can use this method to set up the product on a wireless network. Using a USB cable to transfer settings makes setting up a wireless connection easier. After the setup is complete, disconnect the USB cable.
Insert the software CD into the CD drive.
Follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, select the Connect through a wireless network option.
Connect the USB cable ( ) to the product and the computer when prompted.
    CAUTION:
Do not connect the USB cable until the installation program prompts you.
When the installation is complete, print a Configuration Report to make sure that the product has an SSID name. Follow these steps to print a configuration report:
Load plain white paper into tray 1.
On the product control panel, press OK , and then press OK again to select Reports .
Press the Right Arrow button ( ) to scroll to and select Config Report .
When the Configuration Report prints, disconnect the USB cable ( ) from the product.
You have completed the software installation. Do not perform any more steps in this document.

Well it's never recommended to do WPS setup for printer.  Following the manual instructions like you posted is the best.

  • Trying to connect my c4795 printer to a wireless connection

I am unable to connect my printer to the wireless router in my home.

Welcome to the HP Forums ashleyanderson8,
I see by your post that you are unable to setup the printer on the wireless network.
I can help you with this issue.
I have provided the steps for setting the printer up through Adhoc, then to Infrastructure so the printer will be on the network.
On the right bottom corner of the computer, click on the wireless icon and connect to the printers network name.
(it might take a minute or so to show up)
Once you get a solid blue wireless light on the printer, print a configuration page to get the printer's IP address.
    Printing a Network Configuration Page.
Type the IP address into Internet Explorer's address bar.
This will open the printer's network page.
Go to the network tab along the top of the EWS.
Click on Wireless Setup Wizard along the left hand side to begin configuring the printer.
If yours doesn't have the Wireless Setup Wizard, then select Wireless 802.11, just fill out the network information.
Type in the SSID. (your network name)
    Select Infrastructure.
Select encryption type. (WEP, WPA or Open-no passwords)
    Apply the settings.
You have now completed the Wireless configuration.
Now go back to the wireless icon on the bottom right corner of the computer and click it, select your network name from the list.
If the software is already installed for a USB connection, then go to start, all programs, HP, Printer, select Printer Setup & Software Selection, select connect a new printer.
If the full software wasn't already installed, install it now.
If there is anything else that I can help you with just let me know.

  • I can't connect or print wireless

I have the hp photosmart c4780 and I used the USB wire to connect it to my computer after installing the software off the internet as I lost the software it originally came with. So with that being said, on my little Eee asus netbook windows 7 I can print with the printer when it's connected via USB only! Also I use my printer mainly for printing coupons or documents, and if anyone's familiar with <a href="http://www.coupons.com" target="_blank">www.coupons.com</a> then you'll know they have an app for most all tablets and smart phones and so I downloaded it on both my ipad 2nd generation and my iPad mini, and I was able to print coupons wirelessly via the coupons app only, not via the <a href="http://www.coupons.com" target="_blank">www.coupons.com</a> through my safari browser. So I'm just not sure why I can't get it to connect wirelessly, when I went through the installation and set up process I went through the option of switching to wireless rather than USB and I thought it went smoothly but any other way I try to print from my computers or iPads it will say that the printer isn't discovered. I've also made an account with th hp connect, I've got the eprint hp app on both iPads and I'm having no luck! Also, my printer is just now I'm noticing also, offline i dont know how that happened, but when I printed the wireless network test report along the top it's saying that &quot; MAC ADDRESS FILTERING MAY BE ENABLED ON YOUR WIRELESS ROUTER, THIS CANT PREVENT YOUR PRINTER FRIM CONNECTING TO YOUR WIRELESS NETOWRK DURING SETUP. IF YOU DO HAVE MAC ADDRESS FILTERING ENABLED AND WOULD LIKE TO KEEP IT ENABLED YOU MUST ADD THE MAC ADDRESS OF YOUR PRINTER TO THE LIST OF PERMITTED DECICES FOR YOUR WIRELESS ROUTER BEFORE CONTINUING. THE MAC ADDRESS FOR YOUR PRINTER CAN BE FOUND ON THIS TEST REPORT.***&quot;<br>And I can see below on the print out where my MAC address is, however this isn't helpful because I don't know what MAC address filtering means nor if it's bad or good, or how I can change it accordingly. And in the diagnostics summary below it says NO FILTERING: FAIL<br>I'm unsure as to what that means?<br>So if anyone can help me I'd so greatly appreciate it,<br>I also tried to find that claim code that I was supposed to be able to find when i do the print out on my printer and I can't see it on the test report or the configuration page.<br>So, so far I've just reset the printer itself to default settings. And from here...well...as you can see..<br>I NEED HELP!?!?<br>Please and thank you!

    Hi HBS4026,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I think that the root issue you are experiencing is the printer is not connected to your wireless network, and as a result you are running into several issues.
wikiHow’s How to Find the MAC Address of Your Computer has a nice and non-techie description of what a MAC address is and how to find it.  By turning on the MAC filtering for your router, is a way of telling your router that only the devices with an approved MAC address will be allowed to connect to your network.
Most customers with home wireless networks don’t use this feature, as it can take more time to maintain than a person would like to give.  It requires that you add/maintain the MAC address of any device that will be connecting your to network, including, but not limited to, iPads, tablets, Smartphones, iPhones, computers, laptops, etc.
Please start by turning the router off. If your router doesn’t have an on/off switch, please disconnect the power cord.  After waiting a full 60 seconds please turn the power back on (or plug the power cord back in).  Hopefully the network test report will give us a pass on No Filtering.
If MAC filtering is turned on (I suspect it is on) and you don’t want to use this feature, please contact the manufacturer of your router on how to turn this off.    I do think this is the root of your connectivity issues.
Once you have confirmed that MAC filtering is off  we should be able to get everything working wirelessly by following the information below.
Let’s start with your Windows 7 laptop.  I’ve included the How Do I Find the Best Windows 7 or Windows 8 Driver for My Printer? document.  It will walk you through downloading HP’s Printer Install Wizard.  This will also help you connect the printer to your wireless network while ensuring you have the right driver for your printer.
Once you’re printing from your laptop wirelessly, please try test printing something from the notes app on your iPad.  If your router supports Bonjour, the communication method for Apple’s AirPrint feature, you should have no problems printing.  If you are unsure, I have included a post by Shirlzz1 that will walk you through downloading an app to check.
As for printing from coupons.com using the Safari browser on your iPad it comes down that the iPad is considered a mobile device requiring the app as an interface.
I think I’ve addressed everything that is plaguing you.  If I haven’t please let me know.  In addition, if anything goes askew while doing the above, please let me know at which step things went wonky and the contents of any error messages and where they were displayed.
