Connecting older Amp without HDMi to newer components with HDMI

Hi - I have an older Yamaha RXV-600 receiver with no HMDI connectivity, plus a newer Sony HDTV, Samsung Blu Ray player and HD cable box, all of which have HDMI connectivity. Can someone suggest how I can "maximize" the connectivity between these components, given the receivers HDMI connectivity limitations? Thanks in advance!

HDMI video from the blu-ray and box to the TV.
Optical or coaxial digital audio from the blu-ray and cable box to the receiver
Only thing you're missing is the fact that you need to change inputs on both receiver and TV, while an HDMI-enabled receiver often performs video switching when you change audio inputs.

Hook all the devices to the TV, then an optical out from the TV to the receiver. If you have enough audio inputs on that unit, you could do audio from each device to it.

  • How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?

How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?  I assume I would need to use the DVI to Video adapter that came with my computer to connect to my LCD tv.  I'm just not sure which port I should use on the TV.  The HDMI port is being used for digital cable.
Also, does anyone know if this can be done wirelessly?

For a 2010+ MBP you can connect with a Displayport to HDMI, which will include Audio.
With older MBP you will need a displayport to HDMI, if you want audio to the actually TV, then you will need to get a cable with either digital out from MBP to the HDMI, or USB audio mixed into the HDMI

can i connect two monitors to my mac book pro with HDMI?

I retract my previous "No." If you can live with limited performance (slow refresh/choppy action video/no gaming) on the second external monitor, you could use a USB video adapter and a DVI-HDMI adapter to connect it to a USB port on your computer.

Just a note about the system information that appears below your post: iOS 4.3.3 does not run on Macs, only on iPods, iPads and iPhones. When you're posting about your MBP, it would be more useful to those responding to know which version of Mac OS X you're running. Doesn't matter for purposes of this post, but something to remember for future posts.

  • How do I  connect MacBook Pro without mini-display port to my HDMI TV?

I have a MacBook Pro computer purchased around 2008. I want to connect it to my Panasonic HDMI TV; however, this MacBook Pro doesn't have a mini-display port. Is there a work around? I would like audio & video.
Thanks so much in advance for any help.

You will need a [DVI-to-HDMI adapter|http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041902&pid=2029&seq=1&format=2], a standard HDMI cable to connect the adapter to your TV set, and an audio cable with a headphone plug on one end to connect to your MBP's headphone port and two RCA plugs on the other to connect your your TV's audio inputs. I know of no way you can get audio into the HDMI cable.

  • Anybody connecting older firewire scanners to the newer iMac

I have a Nikon Coolscan 4000 that uses a firewire A output. Since my iMac (late 2012) only has Thundebolt and usb connections, I can't hook up directly. Nikon doesn't support adapter, A firewire to thunderbolt adaptor does not work as the scanner is not visible. Would a firewire to usb be a better option?

I think your two options are: 1) buy new scanner or 2) buy a computer with a FireWire port. The current mini still has a FW800 port (for which I am thankful)

  • How to connect my mini-dv camcorder to new imac with no firewire

I have a Sony Mini-DV camcorder (Handycam) and used to connect it via firewire to my last iMac.
My new iMac doesn't have firewire - just thunderbolt & usb.
Is there a way I can use this camcorder on my new iMac? Are there adaptors, etc.?
    Thanks.

As far as I know, all recent iMacs still have a firewire 800 port.
So you would need a firewire 400 to 800 adapter.

Hope you can fix this or i will start using other browser.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try some of the following programs to scan for malware:

  • Will HDMI v1.4 work with HDMI v1.3?

On my Optoma projector there is a HDMI v1.3 port which I would like to connect to my MacBook Pro Retina 15".
Will it be okay to connect it with a HDMI v1.4 cable to my MacBook Pro Retina HDMI v1.4 port? Or do I need a converter?
I do not want to buy a HDMI v.1.4 cable if it will give me problems.

HDMI connections are backwards-compatible. You should be fine.

  • How to connect Apple TV when I have run out of HDMI Ports?

I have a Sony Bravia TV with 3 HDMI Ports - in those I have connected:
    - Sony Home Theater Surround Sound
    - Playstation
    - Sky Digital TV HD Box
Is there a way to connect Apple TV without disconnecting any of the above? (and without buying a new TV with 4 HDMI ports!)

lkrupp is correct, the only soution is to add what's called an HDMI switch to your setup.  The HDMI switch normally has 2, 4, 6, or 8 HDMI inputs and one output.  The output goes to your display.  You then select which input you want to choose. In your case, you can do one of two things:
Connect all your sources to the HDMI switch.  You then select sources via the HDMI switch and you no longer need to change HDMI inputs on your TV.
Disconnect one of the HDMI sources you have (let's say it's the Playstation) and plug both the Playstation and the APPLE TV into the switch.  In this setup you need to change the input on both the TV and the HDMI switcher.
The simplest setup in your case is to buy a 4 or 8 port HDMI switch and put all your devices on the switch.  If you are looking for inexpensive HDMI switches, you need to look at Monoprice.  The stuff is all manufactured overseas and can be hit or miss but it's the cheapest that you'll find.  If you feel like you need some guidance and help, then try www.hdtvsupply.com.  They have a good selection and great support.

  • What is the problem with 15-inch Macbook Pro model 2011 after connecting to TV with HDMI chord?

Today we connected a 15-inch Macbook Pro model 2011 with HDMI chord to an Insigna Television. We plugged and unplugged couple of times. But recently the macbook pro is having technical issues. The following symptoms are:
    1. Macbook pro turns on and off
    2. The screen stays blue and keeps loading but does not load to the desktop so you can't access to anywhere
    3. The screen sometimes becomes fuzzy and the apple logo that shows before it loads to the desktop is fuzzy
    4. Sometimes fuzzy lines appear on the screen like you see on television when there's a bad signal
    5. The screen stays blue
    6. Sometimes little specks appear on the screen
Only thing we did was turn it off and restart but it still leads to the same symptoms above.
Does anyone have any clue what caused this problem? I am guessing it is due to the connection to the HDMI chord, since we didn't turn the macbook on and off when we plugged it, rather we just unplugged and plugged the chord while the macbook is running.
Another theory might be watching movies from an online source but the first theory seems to make more sense.
We scheduled a meeting with the genius bar tomorrow but does anyone might have any clue? And also any ideas how to fix this? This is an emergency because there are important files on the macbook we didn't back up and we hope the files are safe and we need to use the macbook ASAP. Let us know anything that might have caused this and/or any solutions or help. That would be appreciated and thank you.

  • Decision to prefix the new components as  Fx   is final?

Is the decision to prefix the new components with Fx-  final?<br /><br />It's really a show stopper for me.<br /><br />I understand that there are technical reasons for this move, but when I think about the matter I cannot but ponder that we must not forget that Flex is up for a tough battle against SilverLight for the developers hearts & minds , and it definitely feels much more natural to developers to think in terms of a < Button > and a < List > than to work with prefixed classes.<br /><br />It also saddens me to think that so many developers coming to Flex for the first time in 2010 and beyond will be forced to write annoying <FxThis>  <FxThat> all the time for the sole reason that "back in 2008" there was something called Halo components, which they will never even happen to use.
