Connecting one printer directly to two computers.

Hello -
I have an Epson Stylus Color 860 printer which has BOTH parallel and USB inputs.
I have a PC connected to the parallel input of the printer and the printer is working FINE.
I would like to know if there would be any harm done, and would the printer work, if I connect the USB input of the printer to my Mac G4 USB output ?
I would NOT try to print from both computers at the same time.
The G4 is running OS X 10.4 and the PC is running Windows XP.
Looking for knowledge.

TB X -
Success ! It worked. Connecting the G4 DIRECTLY to the USB input of the Epson Stylus Color 860 and connecting the PC DIRECTLY to the parallel input to the Epson allows printing from EITHER computer as long as you ONLY print from one computer at a time.
Thank you once again for your interest and HELP.

  • One wireless keyboard with two computers?

This has already been asked probably but there is no specific area for Apple's new wireless keyboard (aluminum).. so here it goes:
I have a desk with a MAC MINI and a monitor on it. (currently wired keyboard, wired mouse)
Planning to buy the wireless keyboard.
I also have an additional spare monitor on my desk so it would be nice if I could just plug that into my MACBOOK and use the wireless keyboard from the Mini to wake it from sleep.
Somehow tell the keyboard (and mouse...) to control the other computer
One keyboard and one mouse on desk -- two computers. Can this be done?
    Greg

I'm in the same boat with you on this one. I have to unpair it with one before it will pair with the other. Too much to fiddle with just to reduce clutter on the desk. I eagerly await someone's creative solution.

  • Can we connect one R/3 to two BW systems and extract data?

Can we connect one R/3 to two BW systems and extract data succesfully ? kindly through light on this issue.
    Thanks and regards.

    Of course you can.
Just have to have the RFC destinations in place and use the
    CALL FUNCTION '....' DESTINATION '....'
commands in ABAP, check out the ABAP forums for more info.

  • OK to connect a firewire device to two computers?

Is it OK to connect a firewire device to two computers? I have a DVD burner sitting between two computers that I have been connecting to each of the computers, but it just occurred that it might be OK to connect it to both of them at once. What about connecting a firewire hard drive to two computers at once?

    John Link wrote:
I'm actually more interested in connecting a DVD burner with two firewire ports to two computers. Is this connection possible?
It might be possible, at least from a connection standpoint the Firewire standard is such that doing so won't create any smoke and sparks. I don't see any harm in trying as long as you've taken precautions to back up your important data, which you ought to do anyway.
Roxio Toast has a feature that enables you to share a burner across a network. That might be more in line with what you want to accomplish. This excerpt is from Toast Titanium:
The ToastAnywhere feature helps you share CD, DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray recorders across a network or the Internet with other users. An entire office or home network can use a single recorder.
Toast Titanium doesn't address sharing a burner over FireWire. Perhaps for that you'll have to wait for Toast ReardenMetal.

  • Connect one R/3 and two PI using same ABAP Proxy

    Hi experts,
    Please help me with follow:
I need connect one system R/3 to two systems PI (7.0 and 7.1) using ABAP Proxy.
How can see the repository objects of the two PI systems in transaction SPROXY?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Gaurav, hi Pedro,
the mentioned blog is nearly three years old, from that blog:
    >Two systems exist in the landscape:
    >System X : SAP XI 3.0 system and
    >System Y : SAP R/3 on WAS 620
but Pedro wants to connect PI 7.0 and PI 7.1. assumedly with newer SAP systems. I cant find any hint in the blog how to connect 2 PI systems.
From my point of view it is not possible to connect 2 PI systems to just one ECC client (may be one system with 2 clients) via ABAP proxy at the same time. You can place always only one Integration Server f.e. at SXMB_ADM / Integration Engine Configuration.

  • Major problem saving and printing documents on two computers

This is a bizarre problem that seems to have been transferred from my old MDD to my new Mini when I migrated all my old data and it has me baffled. My apologies if this explanation seems long and complicated but I want to be pretty thorough.
About a month ago I started experiencing a problem with printing. I noticed when printing a sheet of business cards that the page was getting compressed, for lack of a better word, vertically. This was very noticeable because the trim marks on the side of the page were not lining up with the perforations and each row of cards was getting progressively closer to the top as each row was printed. In other words, the first row of cards was okay but then the next row was a little too far "north", the next row a little more, the next row a little more, etc. The bottom of the page was not cut off, it was just squeezed up a bit but not enough that you could tell that the proportions were off. Now I see that many of my documents are like that no matter what application I've use to create them – Pages, Illustrator, Avery DesignPro. What's even worse, I've used Pages to create a sheet of business cards for a friend and Illustrator to make packaging labels and she's having the same problem printing the PDFs of the labels on a different computer. What this seems to tell me is that something has been corrupted and the computer is saving messed up files.
So, about ten days ago I got a Mini and migrated my data using Migration Assistant. And the problem has now been transferred to the Mini. So I now have two Macs connected to two different HP printers that are both incapable of printing (and apparently saving) documents in the proper proportions.
Now, a truly weird thing is that I printed a test sheet of business cards from the Mini on the printer connected to the MDD (via printer sharing) and it appeared that the document printed at the correct length. However, another document, a sheet of labels created in Illustrator, printed at the right length but one edge was slightly cropped off. Grrr.
Anyway, as I said, until about a month ago everything worked fine so something got messed up at that time to cause this problem with saving and printing documents. I need to get this resolved for business reasons – I'm an aspiring designer – but the only thing I can think of doing is wiping out my Mini and reloading everything except my account settings from Time Machine unless someone has advice on what to do. Help! (And yes, I've checked to see that page scaling was always set at 100%.)

Well, I've just about had it. I erased the disk, reinstalled the OS, Adobe CS4, and iWork. I did not use Migration Assistant this time to restore my settings but still my Mac prints documents in the wrong dimensions. Could this be a sudden HP problem? It seems to me some system setting somewhere is making my computer save and print documents in the wrong size. I now have a computer that is almost useless for designing. Lucky me.

  • Sharing one itunes account with two computers

I used to share my itunes account with my sister and our ipods were synched to one computer. We now have two new computers and would still like to continue to share that account. Is it possible to open the same account on two separate computers?

Explain how you transfer content manually.
Control-click or right-click it in iTunes, choose Get Info, locate the music files, move them to the other computer's hard disk as you would any other type of file, and then drag them into the open iTunes window. By default on a Mac, dragging them to the open iTunes window also copies them to the hard disk.

  • Can I share one itunes account with two computers?

I have an itunes account set up with one email address. It was originally set up on a PC and my two daughters have Ipods that are synched to this computer. I finally got my own ipod (yea!) and want to use it with my macbook. I tried to download songs using the same email and my purchased songs were not able to be played on the macbook. Can I share this account or do I need to set up a separate Itunes account for the macbook?
    eye

    eyeinit,
You can authorize your iTunes account on up to 5 computers at a time.
However, purchased music is downloaded to the first machine to download it, but these articles have more information on moving your music between authorized computers:

This one is for moving all your music using an iPod as a storage drive

  • Sorting out my new macbook, one ipod, music on two computers?

I would like to keep my old G4 as my designated music/itunes machine but have my music also on my new macbook (for work, using in keynote, etc.). I assume I can just move my music to my new machine and every few months do it again when I have a lot of new music. Do I have drm issues with this approach?
The ipod will only be connected to the old machine, if I did not make that clear.
Is this best accomplished by just moving the whole Itunes folder? Thanks for your advice.

Copy the whole iTunes folder. This brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the other computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a Mac this would be in Username/Music/. Everything has to be exactly the same on the new computer including the Mac user account name. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers. Don't forget that you'll need to authorise your other computer to play your purchases: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • How to have one itunes library on one ext hd and  two computers using it?

I have seen one topic on this problem but noone answered it
    Here is my question:
we have an imac g5 and a powerbook. there is music on both but it is becoming too big on both: a total of 60gb of music
we want to put it on an ext hd and have access to it whenever we want with any of the computers
but we also want to continue to read and/or import some music on both computers (mostly the laptop) with or without the ext hd mounted
what is the easiest way to do it?
I am not an expert and also I am French so do not understand all your englishor american terms
thanks for any help or clues

  • Using one external drive with two computers

I have been trying to figure this one out but I seem to be stuck. I have a desktop PC running XP and a notebook running Vista.
I am using Lightroom 2 on both machines. I would like to move the external USB harddrive from machine to machine and use the same catalog stored on the external drive. I am having a little problem with this because the two machine assign a different drive letter to the USB drive when I attach it. Has anybody tried doing this?
    Regards
    Mike

With the drive hooked up, in Windows Control Panel go to Computer management. There you can assign a drive letter to the external drive. Use one at the other end of the alphabet (PQRST etc) so you don't clash with inbuilt drives etc.
I do exactly this and have no problems. I also have left my backups going to my C drive so the backup is on a different drive to the working drive.
You can also just hold down the shift key on booting LR and manually select the correct catalogue or you can double click on the catalogue and LR will open it.

  • One email account on two computers

With the help of someone on these forums I have just set up a wireless network using Appl AirPort Extreme.
I use Microsoft Entourage on both machines both using the same account.
When I receive an email, it appears in the in-box of whichever of the two machines happened to receive the mail first, and doesn't appear on the other computer at all.
Is this what you would expect to happen? Ideally, I would like all mail to be stored on the main desktop computer whether to I originally looked at it on the desktop or the laptop. Is this posible?
    Thanks
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thanks, Duane and Ernie - I think your suggestion will work fine.
But would another way to do it be to synchronise the contents of the two hard discs, so whichever HD has the most recent version of the Microsoft User Data folder, the other, older version would be updated?
This takes me to a question about synchronisation more broadly (and this may belong in a different bit of the forum, but never mind...)
I've now got my network set up so I can access anything from one computer on the other. So while I'm on the network, I can access and modify the documents on the main, desktop, machine from the PowerBook.
But if I held all my documents (including the Microsoft User Data folder, my iTunes library etc etc) on both hard drives, is there software I can use to ensure that each HD has the most recent version of each document. This would mean I could go away from home, work on a document on the PowerBook and when I got home, the version on the desktop would automatically be p?
Am I missing something really obvious here?!
    Grateful for any pointers.
    Thank you.

  • One iTunes Store account, two computers, really need help!

Ok, I have just one iTunes store account however i had 2 different computers i used to download the music. my home computer was originally the one i used but then when i moved, i lost internet so my boss let me use my work computer. however after about 5 years of collecting music on that computer my boss got sick and abruptly sold the business. sadly my music went with that computer. I need to find out what to do to get my purchased music downloaded to my laptop now that i have internet. it was all under the same account just downloaded to my work computer instead of home since homes didn't have internet at the time. what can i do?! I've lost all that music! i can see on my account where i purchased it, but i can't seem to get it on my laptop now! please help!!

the following post by Zevoneer, though slightly off topic, says it all:
Did you *back up* your purchases before you you reinstalled your system? If you erased your drive then the purchases will have been erased along with everything else. If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from (as you are advised to do) then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
*You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download*. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on this link you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service
If you have an iPod that still has the purchases on it the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
You might also want to check out these pages for future reference:
