Connecting Outlook 2010 to 365 account

Hello
In an attempt to clean up my outlook 2010 information, I attempted to uninstall and reinstall MS Office 2010.   My reasoning was to try to get outlook to run more efficiently.  In doing so I have completely botched up my Outlook, and now have
no access to anything.   To try to resolve I attempted to remove each account, I have an account for my small business that is on Office 365, which I am able to connect to online just fine.  I also have a corporate exchange account that I connect
into for one of my business clients.  Since that didnt work, I tried to use the  mail profile to reconnect but that doesn't work.
Here are the steps I am attempting.
Mail - New Profile
Add new profile
Add my email account to the profile, manually configure for MS Exchange.
Server name: mydomain.com
User name: myuser
Next
Outlook hangs for a while, then give a message: The Action cannot be completed.  The connections to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.
Any ideas on how to resolve this? Thanks

Hi Vicky,
Please follow the steps below to remove cached credentials:
1. Launch the Credential Manager from Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Credential Manager.
2. In the Generic Credentials section you’ll see a setting for [MS Outlook] which will include your SSO details. Click the downward-pointing arrow to the right of that value.
3. In the expand details, click Remove from vault.
Additionally, in your Internet Explorer, please check the following settings:
Click Settings > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings, please make sure there is no proxy server set there. Only “Automatically detect settings” option is checked.
Then reconfigure your Exchange account automatically by using Autodiscover service to have a try.
If all trying fails, please refer to the following KB for more troubleshooting:

  • Bypass Proxy for Local Addresses - Office 365 connection/ Outlook 2010

This is a strange one.  Connectivity to Office 365 within our netwotk works fine although very slow for outlook 2010 client to initially connect. Once connected, it works ok.  I have done a netwotk trace using netmon to see if i can identify
the reason for the slow startup (2 mins minumum for profile to load and for outlook to connect to exchange). The trace tell me that my local pc tries to make a direct connection to the office365 external IPs first, then tries the TMG proxy. Once it hits the
proxy, it kicks into life and works.
So it looks to me like it thinks the external IP address of office 365 is an internal address and spends it time trying all the ip addresses until it trys the proxy.  At this point, the
Bypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses is ticked.
As soon as i untick this box, all traffic heads directly to the proxy and of course it connects like lighting.  The exchange settings proxy is set in outlook for "on fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP" (tick
is on) and the same for slow networks.
I cant for the life of me work out why it tries to connect directly to the external IPs first and not connect via TMG until i untick the
Bypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses
Would love any ideas that may assist.

We have been in discussions with Microsoft over the last few days on this issue - which is seen with Outlook 2007 versions onwards.  Extract from resolution communication from Microsoft:
The issue you have raised is known as it has been reported and when you have a proxy set in Internet Explorer and “Bypass proxy settings for local addresses”, Outlook will attempt to connect to Office 365 directly – like the bypass rule would apply.
Because the direct connection is blocked in the Firewall, Outlook needs to have the connections going in Timeout before attempting to connect using the Proxy.
Your network trace proves the issue.
Microsoft have scheduled a fix for Outlook 2010 in February 2014 cumulative update. A fix for Outlook 2013 will also follow, but Outlook 2007 will not be addressed because it is in Extended Support.
There are two possible workarounds for this behaviour:
First, and I wouldn’t recommend it, is to allow Direct traffic through the Firewall to Office 365.
The advantage of this approach is that it will be done centralized and it will impact everyone immediately.
Information about the O365 IP addresses
There are two downsides to this behaviour:
    1.  First you need to maintain the Firewall exceptions as IP from O365 server can change without notice
    2.  Second, winhttp traffic may go through both proxy and direct and this can cause unforeseen behaviour.
The second approach is to use a proxy pac instead of manually setting in the proxy and the exceptions.
The advantage is that you will have centralized method to control how winhttp traffic goes and the issue will not be experienced anymore.
If a single pac does not be fit, you can configure proxy pac files for each site requirements and use an IIS server to store it.

  • Outlook 2010 Office 365 and Exchange -- can't get them to talk to each other

I saw similar question posted with no answer.
Have Office Outlook 2010 on HP Pavillion dv7 running Windows 7 Premium and Office 365 on HP Envy x 2 running Windows 8 and can't get either of the Outlook programs to talk to Exchange.  They both ask for passwords and none of the ones I try seem to
work. Yet the email program that came with the HP Envy x2 (part of Windows 8?) manages my Exchange emails as well as my gmail and bellsouth.net accounts.
If for some reason I can't link Exchange to more than one version of Outlook (I'd like to connect to both), suggestions for connecting Exchange to Outlook 365 would be welcome.
    Suggestions?

Make sure you have installed the latest SP for Office 2010 and all the other updates. It also requires the PRO PLUS version of Office for all features to work as expected, if you are using Standard or Home this might be the problem. Check here for more info:

Other than that, make sure you use the full [email protected] credentials

  • Outlook 2010 - Multiple Exchange Accounts - Won't send from second account

I've setup multiple exchange accounts in Outlook 2010.  I receive fine for both accounts, but cannot send from second account.  Sent email goes to the Outbox and stays there.
I've tried going back to a second profile, and it works fine.  Mail in Outbox from efforts above stay in Outbox.  If I pull them up, I can resend with no issue.
I need to be able to send with multiple accounts in same profile to do other projects I'm currently working on.  Any ideas???
    Thanks,
    Mike

I was able to fix this with Outlook 2010 Service Pack 1.
Another area that I had to change was the inbox for that other account I created a rule to put in the primary inbox folder (email 2).
After that the email was only checking one to send and recieve based on the highlighted account, so to resolved that I went to Send/Reveive Groups > Define Groups > Edit Account Properties and made sure they refresh every 1 minute(s).

  • Outlook 2010/multiple exchange accounts/new mail notification on one only

Hi, is there a way to have multiple exchange accounts in Outlook 2010 but just have new mail notifications on the first only?
I tried having the first exchange account open an additional user, but running into memory errors as a result. Found the solution to that by adding them as separate accounts, but this creates noise with mail notifications, reminders, etc-
    Thanks in advance - Joe

    Hi,
You can configure multiple Exchange accounts in Outlook 2010. For details on how to configure, you can refer to this article:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/outlook/archive/2009/08/25/multiple-exchange-accounts-in-outlook-2010.aspx
Also, only the default mail store will get the new mail icon. You can use rules to pop up a desktop notification for the other accounts but the icon will only appear
    for the default account.

  • Outlook 2010 with 365 stripping attachments off of email that have been drag and dropped

In my office we just switched to 365 and since this I've noticed that roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of my email with drag and drop attachments are having those attachments stripped off.
Several times a day I send an email that has 6 attachments, mix of excel and pdf, and the excel called 'Checklist' I attach by drag and drop often get stripped off the instant I hit the Send button.
I will literally be looking at it, as one of 6 files, hit Send, and in my sent box there are only 5 files, the Checklist is gone!  It's random; about 1/3 to 1/2 of them do this.  Others make it through.
Please let me know if there is a fix to this?  I'm having to resend attachments about 6 times a day now!

    Hi,
Please send several test emails with attachments on OWA, check if this issue will occur.
If the issue is on client only, we can start Outlook in Safe Mode to test, this can eliminate the influence by 3rd-party add-ins:
Press Win + R, type "outlook.exe /safe" in the blank box, press Enter.
In Outlook Safe Mode, send several test emails with attachments to see if the problem will ever occur. If no, we may suspect the issue was caused by some add-ins, go to FILE -> Options -> Add-Ins to disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which one
    caused the problem.
We can also test with a new profile to setup the account, a new profile will be a new environment for the account, we can check if the problem will occur with the new profile and you don't need to remove the old profile.
To create a new profile, go to Control Panel -> Mail -> Show Profiles -> Add.

  • Unable to add account to Outlook 2010 for email address under custom domain

I am unable to add a new account in Outlook 2010 for an email account set up under a custom domain.
Can anyone explain why login credentials that work for outlook.com (successful access to email inbox) return an authentication failure (401 error) when used to test connectivity via https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com?
    Details:
I set up a custom domain at https://domains.live.com and did the following DNS configuration steps at my web hosting company following instructions from domains.live.com:
    Created custom MX record
Created CNAME record [name:] autodiscover.jrergonomics.com [value:] autodiscover.outlook.com.
I created email addresses at domains.live.com > jrergonomics.com > Member accounts and tested by successfully logging in to outlook.com.
When I try to add either account to Outlook 2010, I get a popup box with this information:
    Title: "Windows Security"
    Connecting to [email protected]
    [[email protected]]
    [ ] Remember my credentials
                                       [   OK   ]  [  Cancel
The credentials that I use successfully to log in to outlook.com don't work here; I get the popup box 3-4 times and then the Outlook 2010 Add New Account dialog displays an error:
"An encrypted connection to your mail server is not available. Click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection."
Clicking Next results in an error message:
    "Problem Connecting to Server"
I have tried verifying the connectivity using https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com:

  • Outlook 2010 Scheduling Assistent - No free busy information can be received.

    Folks:
I have recently upgraded to Outlook 2010 running on Windows 7 x64.  My email is exchange based. My machine is not a member of the domain my exchange server is in.
I access it my a stored credential.
Everything is fine except for Scheduling assistant.  All the folks invited to a meeting (except for myself) show up as "No Information Available".
I have found plenty of posts that suggest this is also a Outlook 2007 issue, and that creating a key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar\UseLegacyFB
(value 1) solves the issue.  (Example:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrgeneral/thread/c765605d-27a7-4784-993c-925394e2e09f)  I did create the key on my Outlook 2010 machine - but in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar
key.  It is not resolving my issue.
Does anyone know the Outlook 2010 solution to this issue?  Note:  I have Administrative privilege on my Client - but no privilege on the server.  I need to get
Outlook 2010 to interface with Exchange 2007.

From your description, I understand that you are using Outlook 2010 and Exchange account.
There is no free busy information when using scheduling assistant. If there is any misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.
First, you must be using an Exchange server and everyone must publish their free/busy information.
Check from File > Options > Calendar Options > Free/Busy Options.
Make sure the month value for publishing is not zero.
Also, I found a similar thread here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-GB/exchangesvradmin/thread/5991f3b6-f0cc-432f-82c6-f24da0a42862
You can also try the suggestions in that thread to recreate the web services virtual directory
    ===============
    1. Remove-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -identity "Servername\EWS (Default Web Site)" -identity "Servername\EWS (Default Web Site)"
    2. IISReset –noforce
    3. New-WebServicesVirtualDirectory
    4. IISReset –noforce
If this problem persists, it might be related to some settings on the Exchange server side. You can also post this thread in Exchange server forum:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-GB/exchangesvradmin/threads
Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for
you, please feel free to let me know.
    Best Regards,

  • Internally installed Outlook 2010 prompts for password using external smtp email as user id

    Hi,
After exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 migration all internally connected outlooks 2010 (xp, vista, win7, win8) prompt for password using external email user address as user id.
Below some of my settings and informations.
    Internal domain: contoso.local
    External domain: contoso.com
Exchange is NOT published to Internet at all.
    Internally OWA, ECP runs OK.
    Test-OutlookWebservices with user.name(at)contoso.local or contoso\user.name - runs OK
    Test-OutlookWebservices with user.name(at)contoso.com - fails
Common scenario - (all happens internally):
    1.User starts Outlook
2.Outlook prompts for password with default user.name(at)contoso.com as id
    - while user tries to authenticate using his domain password - outlook re-prompts
    - while user changes id from user.name(at)contoso.com to user.name(at)contoso.local or contoso\user.name and authenticates - Outlook connets to exchange and till next Outlook it runs ok.
I am bus with that issue since 1 week and I am already bit tired. I was looking for answer via gogle/bing and went through tons of "Outlook perpetually prompts for password" threads and blogs. No success.
Do you have any clue where else start to play with that?

    Hi,
Thank you for answer - no luck
    >NExt og to Connection tab - Exchange Proxy settings - Proxy authentication settings - is it set
    >to NTLM or Basic?Give it a try on one of them.(if set to NTLM change to basic and vise versa).
On both settings the same results - Outlook is prompting for password.
    >Another thing you could try is og to Internet Explorer - tool -internet options- Security - click local
    >intranet - >custom Level and scroll Down to bottom and put check mark on automaticly logon
    >With current username >and password.
    >Do this on Trusted sites as well,if Your domain is listed under trusted sites
The same results - Outlook isprompting for password.
Should not be some kind of mapping set somehow in AD between user.name(at)contoso.com and user.name(at)contoso.local?
I have impresion that issue is somewhere in the fact that outlook is trying to connect using contoso.com instead of contoso.local in ntlm credentials.

  • OUTLOOK 2010. Does not reply to emails using the same address that received it.

    Hello,
Since last week our Outlook accounts are not working properly, when users reply a message it does not reply using the same address that received it, it appears the personal account instead.
We are using exchange accounts, using Outlook 2010  and the accounts affected are automapped to a principal account (.ost).
We already tried to recreate outlook .ost profile, repair Outlook installation, reinstall Office.
    Can somebody help?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
We have received many reports as your description since last week. It sounds like the sending behavior in Outlook 2010 has been changed by some Windows/Office update and goes back to the behavior before.
Before we go any further, I have to mention some of the history for Outlook 2010. In Outlook 2010 without SP1, Mailto’s will use the default/principal account for message when you use Microsoft Outlook 2010 which has multiple accounts delivered to different
data file. However, in later version (Outlook 2010 SP1/SP2), Outlook doesn’t use the default account set in Account settings for new messages. Instead, it uses the account associated with the mailbox or *.pst file you have in focus.
Actually, this behavior is controlled by the registry keys. At this point, I suggest we check the following registry entries are exist and set it to the proper value.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
    DWORD value: NewItemsUseDefaultSendingAccount
Value type: REG_DWORD: 1 for force, 0 to disable.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\outlook\options
    Value Name: ForceAccountSelection
Value type: REG_DWORD: 1 for force, 0 to disable.
Close the registry editor and restart Outlook to check if the behavior what you want would come back.
In addition, our Outlook MVP, Diane Poremsky has written an article with more detail information:
    http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/outlook-2010/multiple-accounts-and-the-default-account/
By the way, we still cannot figure out which update is the root of the issue, if someone could test it and share the result here, I would appreciate that. Feel free to post back.

  • Office 2010 Outlook Desktop/Office 365 Issues-Cannot connect to the desktop in Outlook, Can't see more than 6 old messages in Office 365

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm having an issue all of a sudden with connecting staff members to Outlook 2010 desktop version. Our super kept having issues, so we disconnected her from the desktop, and tried to reconnect her. I wish I wouldn't have
done that, now I can't get connected back up. We thought we would login to the web version so that she could check her e-mails, which is fine. She can get new e-mails just fine, but she can only see 6 old emails, and she has 100's of old e-mails. Someone please
help, I'm about ready to pull my hair out!!! Very frustrating. :)
    Thank you in advance,
    Ang

    Hi Ang
So this is an Office 365 (Exchange-based) email account? Do you mean you've deleted the specific account from Outlook client and tried to re-add it again?
"now I can't get connected back up" - At which step will it fail? Any error messages when things go wrong? Please first check the account settings that you've entered, and make sure they are correct.
"She can get new e-mails just fine, but she can only see 6 old emails, and she has 100's of old e-mails."
    - With web mail portal, you are connected to your mail server directly. If you are referring to the web-based mail portal here, then these old mail messages probably have been deleted from the server.

  • Outlook 2010 search for contacts of connected account

    Hello.
My client has one issue: they can search contacts in their exchange account but the results don't return contacts from an account that she is authorized to (she can see emails from this other account). She doesn't remember what triggered it she just said
it stopped working. The other person has Mac. How do you enable or troubleshoot search shared contacts from connected accounts?
She is using Windows 8 and Outlook 2010 and they have internal exchange server 2007. I have seen this post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0403a096-49b1-4a87-a34f-44566c9cf9ab/outlook-2010-searching-a-shared-users-contacts?forum=outlook
where it points me to another site but it doesn't say what the problem could be if you can't search from shared contacts.

    Hi,
Is the user searching within the shared Contacts folder?
Switch to Outlook Online Mode and search, does the issue persist?

  • Outlook 2010 cannot connect to exchange

I have outlook 2010 installed on my windows 7 laptop which connects to exchange server as domain user without issue. On another windows 7 computer, logged in with the same domain account, I tried to set up office 2010 but no matter what I have tried, it
will not connect and keeps prompting me for my domain name and password. I have re-installed office 2010 several times, recreated the user profile, deleted out any office folders I could find in appdata etc. but to no avail. I have looked in credential management
but find nothing there. Tried setting up the email profile though control panel mail but that wont work either.

    Hi,
Is the new Windows 7 machine domain –joined for internal access or external access by using Outlook Anywhere?
If the account can’t be automatically set up by using autodiscover service, please try to configure the account manually by the following article:
Set up your Office 365 or other Exchange-based email in Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013

  • Office 365 email deployment using Outlook 2010 and PRF files

    Hi,
I've been struggling to get Outlook 2010 setup with a new Office 365 deployment. I would like to use custom PRF files to get the new Outlook profiles configured. I have more than 100 users.
One of PRF files I'm using is shown at the end of this message. Each user will get a custom PRF file with his/her information already configured (mailbox, server name, etc...). I've obtained the corresponding Exchange server using:
    Get-Mailbox <email> | select ExchangeGUID
I've attached the domain at the end of the GUID and then that's the Exchange server. It matches what you get with Outlook using Autodiscover.
Using these PRF fies I'm able to create a new default profile and set all the parameters as if I had create the profile manually. Two problems here though:
    1) I don't know what to change in the PRF file to set the Logon Network Security to Anonymous Authentication under the Security tab (Exchange account properties)
    2) When Outlook asks me for the username and password, it won't take it, and I know I'm using the right credentials. If I create the profile manually (not using Autodiscover) and I use the same configuration parameters in the PRF file, everything is ok. I have
already run all the updates and tools that come as part of Setup Desktop in Office 365. Actually I get the same results with Outlook 2013.
I'm looking for some help here or ideas how to roll Office 365 without having to go user by user and creating a new profile and waiting for Autodiscover to finish :)

Wow, even if we were to find out what to add to the PRF, it turns out each user mailbox has it's own unique server name (aka Virtual Connection Point). I cannot believe two departments of Microsoft aren't talking to each other!!!! ..... wait, that always
happens. 1 week later and probably 100 hours later I am just going to create a simple how-to for each user.
Here is the link I just found explaining the "virtual connection points". http://www.blackmanticore.com/2c209fbaa93ae6cf8f8dac5b50281f2e
I'm sure NEXT YEAR Microsoft will catch up with itself and add this option/feature in the Office Customization Tool to create PRF files that will actually work with their services.
