Connecting over VPN using Toad

Hello,
We have started experience problems connecting to our 9i and 10g databases when using Toad over a VPN connection. Although a connection is actually made nothing is returned to the Toad client and it justs hangs. This problem only occurs over a VPN. When connected to the LAN there is no problem. Also it is possible to connect over the VPN using SQL Developer. This has only recently started happening. In the past we have been able to connect over the VPN without a problem. Sounds like a Toad problem? Yes! I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this and new of a resolution.
Thanks James

Hi ,
The OP is able to connect through SQL Developer using VPN so no issues with VPN,The OP is facing problem when connecting using TOAD so:
1)Try to disconnect the TOAD and than try if that doesn't work can you please type the error message you are getting while connecting to the TOAD using VPN.
Best regards,
Rafi.

  • Not able to connect to database using toad

we have a 11.1.0.7 database on solaris machine.
when the development team tries to connect to it using toad, it gives them ORA-01017: invalid username/password error.
We are using TNS entries to connect. From the same client machine, we are able to connect using SQLPLUS and SQL Developer using the same TNS entry. However, its not working on TOAD.
Toad Version is 9.0.1. Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Muneer,
My answer is arriving to this forum late, but I'll tell you what is happening to benefit others who have this issue. Older versions of Toad convert the case of the password to upper case when they attempt to authenticate to Oracle. Versions of Oracle prior to 11G had case insensitive passwords so it did not matter. But when 11G came out with it's case sensitive passwords, Toad could no longer authenticate. You can test this yourself by modifying the password for your Oracle account (usnig sqlplus) so that the password is completely upper case.....Toad will suddenly be able to authenticate.
You will find that sqlplus and SQL Developer don't have a problem. That is because they don't convert the password to upper case, they just leave it as it is. I don't know why older versions of Toad convert the password to upper case, but that is what they do. Newer versions of Toad fix the issue. I believe that Toad versions 9.5 and later should work. I've also read, however, that 9.5 had issues with Oracle 11G client libraries so you might just want to upgrade to the latest/greatest version of Toad.

    Altaf

    Hi
When trying to connect to Oracle the following error is generated:
ORA-12203: unable to connect to destination
    Possible Causes and Remedies:
    Invalid TNS address supplied.
Verify that the service name is correct.
Verify that the name of the ‘host’ computer (defined as part of the TNS address) is valid and correct.
    Destination not listening.
Ensure that the listener is running at the remove node. This can be verified on the server by using the command ‘lsnrctl80 status’ and also by looking at the services and checking that the service ‘OracleService<Sid>’ is running.
If the listener service is not running, does not exist and the database has just been created anew on the machine by restoring it from a backup, then the listener service will need to be created:
Oradim80 –new –sid <SID> -intpwd Oracle –startmode AUTO –pfile <full-path-of-init-file>
This should only be done in the circumstances outlined above.
Possibly because of underlying network transport problems.
Check that the remote node is visible on the network.
To gain more information in diagnosing the problem, enable tracking on the client, try making the connection again and then look at the trace file SQLNET.LOG.
There are multiple databases on the server and the database alias was not supplied as part of the connection string. This will only arise if connecting to the database on the same machine, since normally in this instance the database alias is optional if there is only one instance. Try:
Setting the environment variable ‘ORACLE_SID’ to the SID of the desired instance. (Consider setting ORACLE_SID in the registry.)
Explicitly specifying a database alias when connecting to the database.
Setting the environment variable ‘LOCAL’ or ‘REMOTE’ to the SID of the desired database. The service name does not then need to be specified.
Note: Using the utility ‘TNSPING’ may help in identifying any problems. As well as identifying whether a successful connection can be made, it also indicates whether the TNS name supplied is valid and if so then the host computer that it is trying to connect to. Syntax:
    TNSPING <tns-name>

  • User having trouble connecting to VPN using mobile broadband card

I've got a user with a laptop running Windows 7 who is trying to use an AT&T mobile broadband card to connect to a VPN using the Cisco IPSec VPN client. The card is the Sierra Wireless Momentum 4G. The VPN connection established fine, but no traffic gets passed after that. Other users can connect to the VPN fine (not using mobile broadband, though). Wired and wireless connections from this laptop are able to get to the VPN fine. It's just over the mobile broadband service that this happens. Are there any workarounds for this issue?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
To use the proprietary BB services (including Push email capability, native browser, BBM, etc.), you must have an adequate data plan from your carrier. The carriers host BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) for their BB users. Typically, BIS is not available via generic data plans. Many carriers call what is necessary The Blackberry Data Plan. Whatever they call it, it is the carrier who delivers BIS to their BB users -- contact them for assistance. Once you have a BIS-capable data plan on your BB (at whatever fees your carrier will charge, btw), your BB-proprietary services will function (e.g., you will have Personal/Internet Email added to the email setup wizard, your BBM will function, etc).
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/What_do_I_need_a_Data_Plan_for%3F
With hundreds of carriers in the world, each with dozens of different data plans, it's impossible to tell you specifically what any service plan might actually provide. Only the carriers can answer that question. The best thing to do is to decide what services you desire, and then talk to your carrier about obtaining (from them) a data plan that enables what you desire.

Any oracle errors (ora-nnnnn or tns-nnnnn)?

  • Connect to Server using TOAD

I am a newb to the DBA side of Oracle and have never setup an instance of it or installed it for that matter. I have TOAD and I would like to connect to the server using it. I have installed TOAD 7.6 on my workstation and that is all. I have not installed anthing else. The oracle database is on a server on our network.
Do I need to install some client tools on my workstation to connect to the database server? When I try using ToAD to connect using the correct login, I get an iniitialization error - Could not locate OCI.DLL. I looked on the TOAD website and it mentioned briefly about an 'Oracle Client'.?
Please assist me in getting connected to the server just by what I need locally on my workstation. Is it the same as SQL Server and just installing the Client Tools? If so, where can I find these tools for version 9.2.x.x (I think).
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hi,
I would stick to old full client install not instant as this will include all the extra you may need for visual studio i.e. odbc and ole....
I've never used instant client and am not sure if its supported against visual studio, toad... , plus it is very cut down in what it offers

  • SSL Connection over TCP using SSLSocketFactory to remote C++ Server

    Hi.
Despite my traversing through the archives, I could not find a
solution to my problem. So hopefully, that would mean i have a simple
    isolated, and FIXABLE problem :-)
My web application running under Weblogic 7.01 as a servlet needs to
connect to a remote server using SSL over tcp.
The server is a C++ app using openssl libraries to serve up a
    self-signed certificate.
The code fragments to do so look like this:
         SSLSocketFactory sf =
    (SSLSocketFactory)SSLSocketFactory.getDefault();
         connection = sf.createSocket(host, port);
         output.write(...)
         output.flush();
Upon the flush, I get the following error:
java.io.IOException: Write Channel Closed, possible SSL handshaking or
    trust failure
         at com.certicom.tls.record.WriteHandler.write(Unknown Source)

         at java.io.BufferedOutputStream.flush(BufferedOutputStream.java:125)
         at java.io.DataOutputStream.flush(DataOutputStream.java:99)
My guess is that its complaining about not trusting the certificate
being sent back by the server.
I typically use JSSE for this application when running within other
    appservers, and
this application has no problems. But because i've run into issues
with using JSSE in WL7.01 (another topic
for another day), I'm using the default WL ssl library.
    I have set weblogic.security.SSL.trustedCAKeyStore=d:\bea\weblogic700\server\lib\cacerts,
    and imported my
certificate into that cacerts file. This doesn't seem to fix my
    problem. Is there another truststore
that my webapp may rely on? Where within the admin console can I
    figure this out?
Or am I on the wrong track here?
Also, if its any clue, elsewhere within the same application, I make
    https requests to another
web app running under the same weblogic server - and that is fine - I
use the URLConnection class in those cases.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks
    Ed

  • How to share internet-connection over vpn

    Hallo,
first, sorry for my bad english...
i have a mac mini 2011 with os x mavericks and os x server.
i use a vpn connection for my mobile clients. these clients need to connect to the internet with the same connection as the server.
how do i share the connection for my vpn clients?
    thx
    cgwaldt

    Mr. cgwaldt:
I just ran some tests and confirmed the method.  To mask your ip address via your vpn do the following.
    1. Create a vpn connection to your server.
    2. Use Finder to start your ScreenSharing.app.  This app is located at /System/Library/CoreServices/ScreenShare
    3. When you start the app, it will ask you for the ip address of the network computer.  Enter the ip address of your server.
    4. Log in with a registered account on that server.
    5. Do all your work through the shared screen.
I have taken a screen shot.  You will see two browsers in the screen shot.  One is open on my local computer, and the other is open on the ShareScreen app.  The one in the ShareScreen app shows the static IP address of my office.  The one that is on my local machine shows the dynamic IP address provided by my mobile internet provider.  Note, my advice in a previous post was not entirely correct; I am forcing all traffic through the VPN tunnel in this picture, and I expected my local machine to have the static ip address that is the same as the one in the ShareScreen app.  Even with all network traffic going back to my home server, I run into the problem that you spoke of, but the solution is to use that connection to work from a home computer, and then the problem is solved.
Any work you do on your server using the ShareScreen app will use internet packets marked with your static IP address.  The connection was not nearly as slow as I had thought it would be. There is a delay between the typing of text and the appearing of the text on the screen, but if you are good at typing, this should not slow you down.
In this example, the webpage that is showing 173.198.104.130 would be the one that you would use for your billing.  That IP address is the static IP of my office, which is where the "Mavericks1" computer is located.
For this test, I used a mobile hotspot on an Android Ice Cream Sandwhich operating system running on an HTC Rizound celular phone.  The connection speed is mediocre, and the delay was not bad.  If you are working in a hotel or have access to a much better wireless connection, then the delay will probably be minimal at best.
    I hope this helps.

  • EJB transaction hanging over VPN connection

EJB transaction hanging over VPN connection
I am trying to diagnose a problem that only occurs when I am doing testing from home and connected via VPN to work.
We are using WL 10.3. Our clusters are setup to communicate via multicast. We have a stateless session bean that uses many different resources (Sybase DB, other EJBs, Sonic JMS). I have a local EJB on my home network that I am testing and it connects with other EJBs and resources on my corporate network. While I don't think it is related to the problem, there is a cluster of the same EJB I am trying to test deployed to my corporate environment. i.e. I am testing ResetService EJB and there is a deployed domain cluster of several ResetService EJBs in the environment I am connecting to. My local server and admin domain are named differently than the one deployed and my local ejb shouldn't try to connect to the cluster in the environment.
When I make a call into my local ejb everything seems to work as expected until it gets to the commit part of the transaction (after my ejb returns). At this point the executing thread hangs at the following location
    "[STUCK] ExecuteThread: '16' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'" daemon prio=2 tid=0x2e8cb400 nid=0x22fc in Object.wait() [0x3031f000]

at weblogic.work.ExecuteThread.run(ExecuteThread.java:173)This thread is obviously waiting for a notification from some other thread but it is unclear what exactly it is waiting for. This only seems to happen when I am connected via VPN because when I try this same setup connected directly to my corporate network at work it works fine.
I connected w/ debugger and tried to dig. Some interesting observations I see are.
    1) The ServerTransactionImpl object that is hanging has a 'preferredHost' of a different machine on my corporate network. It is an EJB that my service got some information from but it wasn't involved in any create, update, or delete aspects of the tran so in theory it shouldn't be part of it. Does anyone know what exactly this peferredHost attribute is signifying? I also see this same remote ejb server reference defined in a ServerCoordinatorDescriptor variable.
    2) I also sometimes see other XA resources (JMS) with this ServerTransactionImpl that point to references of resources that live on other machines on my corporate network (not my local ejb). This doesn't always seem to be the case though.
VPN will definetly block multicast packets from the corporate env back to my machine. I don't think it works from my machine to the corporate env machines either.
I also have two IPs when connected over VPN. One for my local home network and one given to me by my VPN client. I have setup my local WL server to listen on the VPN client provided IP which the corporate machines should be able to resolve and send TCP message over.
This definetly seems to be transaction related because when I remove the tran support from my ejb things work as expected. The problem is I need to test within the transaction just like it runs in a deployed environment so this isn't really a fix.
My theory: My local test WL EJB is waiting for a communication from some other server before it can commit the tran. This communication is blocked due to my VPN connection. I just don't know what exactly it is trying to communicate and how to resolve if that is in fact the problem. I thought about looking into unicast rather than multicast for cluster communication but in my mind that doesn't come into play here because I am not deploying a local cluster for my EJB and I thought multicast was just used for inter-cluster communication.
I also saw some docs talking about resources need to be uniquely named when inter-domain communication is performed (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs81/ConsoleHelp/jta.html#1120356).
Anyone have any thoughts on what might be going on?
Here is some log output from my local WL instance:

    Hello asirigaya,
MSDTC configure does not belong to this forum, this forum topic is "Discuss client application development using Windows Forms controls and features."
I didn't see MSDN has this kind of forum so I will help you move this case to "Where is the forum for"

  • Connecting to vmware database using TOAD on windows7(client machine) issue?

    hi
10gR2 installed on OEL4.2(VMWARE) on windows7 HOST. Please let me know how to connect to database installed oel4.2(vmware) on windows7 using the TOAD. as i downloaded the oracle10g client about 35MB and unzipped. it got all class files and then moved this to C:\ folder on windows machine and set the environment variables to the include the path of oracle client and also created the tnsnames.ora in instantclient folder.
i can able to ping to vmware machine from windows and viceversa and listener and tnsnames are running at the database side. When i am trying to connect to database using TOAD or pl/sql developer its giving error.
    pl/sql developer error:
    Oracle client nor properly installed
    OracleHomekey:
    Oracledir:
    TOAD Error:
    cannot find OCI.dll
in the instantclient folder i have OCI.dll but still giving the error
