Connecting Palm TX to Netgear WNR2000 router

I cannot get the Palm to recognize the Netgear router. This morning while setting up my router, my Palm TX recognized the network before I completely set up the network. But after finishing it it will no longer recognize it. My son's laptop will connect and run though. Any sugesstions, or hints to try?

Gary, you find the settings the same way you set up the router - use your web browser on your PC to access the settings menu!  You don't physically open the router.
Enter the IP address for the router (something like http://192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) into the browser address bar and you should gain entry to the settings.  The DNS will be listed somewhere on the setup pages.  You're looking for the listing for the DNS numbers being sent to your router, sometimes called "Primary DNS and Secondary DNS".  Other routers call it DNS1, DNS2, etc.
I don't own a NetGear router, but I'm sure your manual that came with it will explain things, as well as searching the Netgear site for help.
This sounds like a simple speed setting (backward-compatible).  You'll need to set the router to transmit in either "/b, /g, and /n" mode or "Mixed B and G"... something like that.

  • Netgear WNR2000 Router (Virgin Media 50Mb/s) & iMac

    Hi,
have just upgraded to the Virgin Media 50Mb/s broadband service and have used the free router they provide - a rather fetching Netgear WNR2000 in shiny black garb.
I did not want to use the USB dongle that is provided with the router as my iMac is 802.11n enabled. I have checked to see that it is enabled as per the Apple knowledge base article.
I have set the router wireless speed at "up to 300Mbps" and it says it is using channels 2(p) + 6(s).
However, I can only get a 130Mbps connection at my iMac which is less than 20 feet away from the router with no walls or phones or other electrical equipment between.
Do I have to enable something on my iMac to get the faster connection speed to be made??
I prostrate myself at the feet of your greater wisdom and await enlightenment.....

I also use Virgin as my ISP and i was lead to believe (by Virgin themselves) that i wouldn't be able to use a wireless at all with them as i was running an intel imac...
I take it this has changed then ?
Sorry to be no help whatsoever Avian !

  • Printing from iMac using bonjour to a printer connected to netgear wifi router USB port

Wondering if someone could help provide advice. I have just purchased my first iMac and a new NetGear W600 wifi router. I have connected my Canon multifunction MX310 printer directly to my iMac and it prints and scans perfectly. However when I connect it to the USB port of my new NetGear W600 wifi modem the only thing I can print is the test page on the iMac, ... nothing else prints. I receive the message that my iMac has connected to the printer but nothing prints out, except the basic test page.
In stark contrast, when I install bonjour on my Dell notebook PC, running Vista, it prints perfectly to the same MX310 printer connected to the NetGear wifi router!

Hi, Thanks for your help. I am trying to get documents printing to the canon printer in wifi mode, via bonjour, when the printer is connected to the USB port of my NetGear wifi router. I have a wifi internet connection via the same NetGear wifi router so it doesn't seem to be a network connectivity issue. ... any other ideas?
    Many Thanks

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch and just did the update to IOS 5. Now I can't connect to my Netgear wifi router. My iPhone connects fine along with all of my other laptops etc. I have the router set with WPA-PSK [TKIP] security and an access list. I've confirmed the mac address is included on that list and that the password is correct. Under choses netwrok I select the network and it just goes into a spin. I have tried removing the password and the access list settings and it still will not complete the connection to the router thus no internet access. The routers firmware is also up to date. This thing worked fine before this update and I've already tried to restore from backup. Any ideas or is the wifi nic bad in this thing with the new apple firmware update? Any fix?

Thanks Bob, I don't know why but it all of a sudden worked a few days later. It's a mystery but at least problem solved.

  • Unable to obtain ip with wireless connection to Netgear WGR614 router

Pardon my ignorance, I'm relatively new to the Mac world.
I recently purchased an iMac and at the same time purchased a Netgear wireless router.
When hardwired to the Netgear, I have no issues. I tried connecting via wireless, and keep getting the self-assigned ip address. My wireless network is detected and the Airport card connects...full strength. I also have a laptop running windowsXP, and it connects with no issues.
I have tried some of the suggestions mentioned in the discussions. Power cycled the Netgear. Changed channels...from 11 to 10. That didn't help so I went back to channel 11. I have security disabled...trying to keep the configuration as simple as possible until I can get this working.
If anyone can share some thoughts/ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    -Tim

I had to go into /Library/Preferences and dragged SystemConfiguration to my desktop. I restarted the iMac.
After it booted up, I went into System Preferences => Network; created a new Location and used the "Assist Me" tab at the bottom. It walked me through setting up the Airport again and this time it worked.
For anyone that does this, once you confirm your wireless connection is working, take the SystemConfiguration on the desktop and drag it to the Trash.

  • A/ex will not function when connected to a Netgear 3G router.

For several years my A/EX units operated in Airplay and print server mode (pre OS X Lion).  That configuration used a Netgear DG834 router serving IP addresses (i.e. acting as a DHCP server) to the WLAN.  I then changed to using 3G internet (3 UK) and a Netgear MBR 624GU router again providing DHCP services to the WLAN.
Now the A/EX units don't work...  I can configure them to connect to the WLAN and Airport utility "sees" them when they are connected by ethernet but once in wireless mode the connectivity seems to be lost (though the green lights stay on).
Both A/EX units get very hot when in use and I'm erring towards hardware failure but 2 to lose 2 units at the same time seems less than likely.
Any thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated.

    I also had a power problem .
I had two cords ... both looked perfectly OK ...no kinks or tears.  Spent a lot of time looking through the manual and software issues.
When I replaced the CORD I was using  with another Cord ... it worked perfectly.  Try another cord or charger or both ... before you try anything else.
We get so involved in the software and hardware that we don't think "simple".
Check if the cord  or wiring to whatever we are using  is Plugged in, the outlet is live (no fuse blown), the secondary device is working and the cord is "live".

  • Hi there, I have just bought an ipad4 but it will not connect to my internet. I have tried every suggestion going to no avail. My netgear DG834g router is fairly old , do you think this is the problem? I am at a loss now and very frustrated!

Hi there, I have just bought my first ipad4 and have spent all weekend trying to connect to the internet. I have tried all Apple suggestions to no avail
. My Netgear DG834g router is a few years old now. Do you think this may be the problem? Do they have compatibility issues after a while? My ipad upgrade is IOs 6. I am at a loss what else to do and needless to say extremely frustrated!
    Thanks.

First check that your router has its latest firmware.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Connecting to AirPlay with my AppleTV using Netgear-G router. Apple TV loses wifi connection after about 5 minutes.

I am using a new MacBook Air with OS X and just bought an Apple TV. Using Netgear-G router.
After 5 minutes of AirPlay, movies, etc from my laptop stop playing on my TV and then lose sound on the laptop (but have video on the laptop when that happens).
Just bought this tonight, pretty frustrating. Any help appreciated.

PS I've tried disabling WWM and it doesn't work. I do have a B/G only router though, do I need an N one?

  • TIP for Connecting Palm TX to WRT54G

I recently received a Palm TX as a gift and I spent hours struggling to establish a connection between the Palm and my WiFi Linksys router (WRT54G). I finally got it working, and I wanted to pass along the solution to the problem I was having.
When setting up WiFi on the Palm TX, you have to enter the security key. To find it, follow these steps on the Palm TX:
    1) Click Preferences > WiFi > Setup
    2) Select the network you want to connect to (your router's SSID, which can be seen on the main page of the Linksys Easy Advisor on your PC).
    3) Click Edit > Configure > Key.
You have to enter the Encryption Key of your Linksys router, which is found like this:
    1) Open the Linksys Easy Advisor on your PC.
    2) Click the "Support" tab at the top.
    3) Look under "Basic Router Information", and you will see an entry called "Encryption Key".
The problem I was having is that during my troubleshooting I had accidentally refreshed the Linksys encryption key after I had entered it into the Palm. So the Palm had an encryption key that was no longer valid. Once I went back into the Easy Advisor and realized that the encryption key was now different, I entered the new encryption key into the Palm and all was well.
So the moral is, don't reset your security settings in the Linksys Easy Advisor, or else you'll need to re-enter the new encryption key in your Palm the next time you want to connect to WiFi!

  • Connecting a wrt610n and netgear wnr2000v2 in wireless repeater mode

I am having trouble getting the wrt610n to connect to the wnr2000v2 that can be set a  wireless repeater.  I had a 160n hooked up and it was working fine, but am unable to get the 610n going on it.  I'm kinda new to setting this type of networking up , but have a general idea of how it works.  I have the 610n running and is broadcasting a signal, but the wnr 2000 will not connect to it wirelssly and repeat it.  The setup in the netgear is pretty basic , but I am new to the linksys 610n and the interface that's why I believe it has to do with the 610n.  Could someone please walk through the settings for me?  Any help would be appreciated.

So as per the scenario that you mentioned according to that could you please tell us the name of the ISP ( Internet Service Provider ).... As it all depends up the ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) setup....  Secondly check the firmware version of the Router is updated or not if it is not then it can be downloaded from the Cisco website (homesupport.cisco.com ).... Once after updating the firmware reset the Router and configure it again...
As far as wireless is concern WRT610N Router is dual-band Wireless-N Router... So that it means it has 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
    frequencies...
As far as wireless settings is concern you can use same wireless network name or even you can use different network name...
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161..
So these settings are sufficient to make the Netgear  WNR2000 v2 as a repeater mode...

  • How to for HP CP1525nw Apple AirPrint and Netgear WNDR3700 router

How to setup AirPrint on an iPhone & iPad with a HP CP1525nw and Netgear WNDR3700 router
    Date written:  April 17, 2011
I did this twice. It took 2 days the first time and 3 hours the second time.
    Equipment used:
    iPhone 4 on AT&T
    iPad 2 on Verizon
    HP LaserJet CP1525nw color laser
Netgear  N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router WNR3700 v2
Abstract: Upgrade Apple products software, upgrade router firmware, upgrade HP Printer firmware and installer. In that order. Reboot a lot. Test as you go.
APPLE - Upgrade iTunes to the latest version  10.2.1.1 Released around mid April, 2011.
This will Upgrade iPhone 4 to version 4.3.2 (AT&T) Check in Settings under About.
This will Upgrade iPad 2 to version 4.3.2 (Verizon) Check in Settings under About.
NETGEAR - Upgrade the Netgear 3700 router from version 1.0.0.6 to version 1.0.0.8 using the built in webpage to check for updates. The router will download and install the updates. This will also update the built in Web setup GUI from 1.0.0.56 to 1.0.0.67.  Power off and on the router.  To see your version, check Status under Maintenance
Now is a good time to setup Wireless security in the router. Set to WPA PSK (TKIP) + WPA2-PSK (AES). Uncheck Enable Wireless Isolation.
Enter a password for both bands 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz, I used the same for both. (the iPad can use the 5 GHz WiFi band but not for printing {?} so use 2.4 GHz when you print.) You should give them different SSID names, like NETHOME and NETHOME-5. These will show up on your wireless devices (like the iPad but not iPhone)
Make sure your computer, iPhone and iPad can connect to the internet before you go on.
HP PRINTER – Go to HP’s website and down load the latest Installer and firmware for the CP1525nw.
    Printer webpage
This is the webpage but you can just search for CP1525nw at the HP website.
Select your Operating System, such as Win 7 32 bit. And look at the list of downloads that appear below.  Under Drivers (2), you want to download the HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver. It says it is version 2.0 The Installer you will use is version 3.0.3.5253 as you will see.  The Installer on the CD is much older (1.4).
Now under Firmware (1)  download the newest firmware utility for the printer.  HP LaserJet Firmware Update Utility.  The file name is  CP1525_Series_FW_Update-20101125.exe [1/1, 6.87M]
Note the date is 20101125. My Printer had 20100430. These are the firmware version numbers.
So 2 programs from HP. One is the Installer and the other is the Firmware Updater. You can just click on the HP Full Feature Installer to run it. No CD needed anymore. You have to get the printer working on the USB port next, and then you can update the firmware in the printer.
You should uninstall any old drivers if it asks you. You are going to uninstall and reinstall 2 or more times. Uninstall old stuff, install new USB drivers from the new download, uninstall USB drivers, and install Wireless drivers.  But first get the USB working and printing. Print Config from the printer control menu to see your firmware version…. Reports/Config Report. Look at Firmware Date.
Now you can double click the 2nd HP program to upgrade the Printer firmware.  The file is called CP1525_Series_FW_Update-20101125.exe  This will upgrade the firmware over the USB port. When it is done you will get a yellow Happy Face. You can print Config Report from the printer controls to see the firmware version… 20101125.
Power off/on Printer.  Turn off cell phones, go into Airplane mode on the iPhone and iPad. You can turn on the iPhone and iPad WiFi but leave the 3G phone stuff off. This seems to be important, I think some of the “not found” problems are RF interference with the WiFi.
Run HP Installer again. Uninstall the USB driver and then run it again to install the printer as a Wireless Device. You will need to pick the router and enter the password so the printer can log on to the router.
Once you reboot the printer, check for the blue light on the front. Make sure the Wireless is turned on in the Printer Wireless settings.
Your iPad and iPhone will go through the Router and back out to the Printer to print. Uninstall Print n Share, Print Pro and other printing helpers.  (for now) Try printing now.  It doesn’t work with Notes, so try printing in Safari with the BoxArrow icon.
The first time you print, you should see the Printer in list, but I had to get out of the app and get back in to Print the first time. After that is works with the CP1525nw without picking the printer again. You will see a big print button.
We so excited…. AirPrint works.  (Needs some printer settings…landscape?)
Disclaimer – I don’t work for Apple, HP, Netgear, AT&T or Verizon. I work for free…  I would be willing to beta test for them, they need help.

My question is if its possible for the N devices to still use N network while the G devices not demoting the whole wireless network to G?
Yes. To do so, you would need to connect the Netgear to the new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) by Ethernet, and then, reconfigure it as a bridge (disable both its NAT & DHCP functions).
In this configuration, the AEBSn & AXn can provide the 802.11n network and the Netgear can provide the 802.11g network.

  • How do I use a netgear N600 router with Infinity 1

I have searched various forums etc. with mixed success so am hoping that someone here can give me an idiot's guide to connecting to the internet using my netgear N600 router rather than using the BT Homehub 5. BT say that I can do it (despite my router being set up for ADSL and the HH5 being set up for VDSL) but that they can't tell me how! They sent me an email with various details I would need but I can't see where most of them need to be added when I connect to the netgear set up wizard. What I could see I filled in but when I tried to connect the netgear genie told me the ADSL cable wasn't connected. Can anyone give me a step by step guide of what to do please? I would be very grateful. Thanks

The HH5 cannot be used as a stand alone modem. You could use the Netgear as a simple wireless access point, but you would lose most of the functions, and would be better off using a proper wireless access point.
You cannot use the Netgear as a router, without a modem.

  • How to configure Airport Express N router and Netgear G router with Extreme

I have a primary Netgear G router (WRT54G) connected to my cable modem box. I have an Airport Express N router streaming music in another room and also extending the wireless network.
I am planning to demote the Netgear router as a switch + wireless network extender connected to my home theater setup (dish+apple tv+ps3) and purchase a new dual band Airport Extreme connected to the cable box and acting as the main router.
My question is if its possible for the N devices to still use N network while the G devices not demoting the whole wireless network to G? That's the reason why I want the Extreme. If yes, how to go about doing it? If not, I will just buy a cheap switch and use that for the Home theater and leave the current setup alone. Anyone who has a similar network, please advice. Thanks!
