Connecting PC monitor to MMD G4

So I recently acquired a Flat-panel LCD Monitor (Sony SDM S51) to replace my CRT (NEC AccuSync) after it's connections went bad and started giving me everything green hued. It hooked up fine and it was amazing to see my system on a crisp, clear, correctly-colored screen!
TO-->
Except when I went to put the machine to Sleep, it shut off instead. I thought it was an accident. Until the next day when I went to start up the machine and it wouldn't...at all. It was like it had no power going to it! When I switched back the monitors it turned on fine. Now I'm scared to reattach the new friends... frenemies, rather.
A co-worker told me that it could have something to do with a digital or analog output/input from either machine. I've been looking online and have no idea what to look for...OR if there's an adapter I could get that would help the situation. Any thoughts??
Thanks!!
Judi

So I retried (via Genius Bar suggestion) and I reset the PMU switch and when I went to plug in the Sony monitor again, the machine started up on it's own! I hadn't even screwed in the adapter yet when I heard the DONG. Tre freaky~
I left it on for a few hours and then went to shut it off and everything went smoothly, until the G4 was actually shutting down. As soon as the fan sound stopped, the monitor flashed an error message "NO IMPUT SIGNAL" and restarted the computer! The fan went on full power and the machine came right back on, no problems. Except for the whole "monitor taking control of the PC" thing...Tested it a few more times, with Sleep as well, and the same results followed. I ended up unplugging the monitor and just manually shutting off the mac. Haven't reconnected since.
Anyone have ANY idea what is going on here??
Thanks,
Judi

  • How to connect two monitors using macbook pro?

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro through which I want to extend the displays to two individual monitors.
The two monitors should show two different windows which is opened through my macbook.
I have observed that macbook has only one mini display port through which I connect to HDMI or to DVI ports in monitor.
So how do I connect another monitor source to my macbook, which ports can help in this situation?
The monitors I have which can supports HDMI,DVI,VGA and DP ports.
Could anyone help me on this issue.
    Thanks.

You can use a USB 2.0/3.0 to HDMI/DVI interface.  You might also consder Thundebolt to HDMI/DVI.
The MBP 13" will support three screens (two external) and the MBP 15" will support four screen (three external).

  • Can I connect 2 monitors to a Mac Mini?

I am thinking of buying a Mac Mini for an art installation project and will need to connect two monitors to it. Please can someone let me know if I can connect more than 1 monitor to a Mac mini. Can they be 19" monitors or must they be smaller resolution? Do they have to be of a particular specification? Any recommendations? Thanks very much.

A simple splitter would theoretically support anything up to the mini's maximum resolution, but in practice it depends on the actual displays being used as the whether the mini correctly identifies the devices and offers the correct range of resolution options. Some juggling (such as disconnecting one display while the system boots or wakes from sleep) can help, but it really does depend on the display(s) as to whether the mini behaves correctly via a splitter of this sort.
The Matrox device is technically far better because it presents itself to the mini as a single display, but of course it limits maximum resolution across both screens, and thus isn't really all that attractive a proposition unless 15" LCDs are to be used rather than anything larger.
The USB-based device seems to offer the best of both worlds - or at least will offer the best of both worlds when released with tried and tested Mac drivers. It's not all that clear why Mac drivers have been slow in coming for these devices when they have been around for Windows for some time now, and a number of manufacturers had pre-announced Mac versions as much as a year ago. At the general price of $99 or so, a USB adaptor would provide a reasonably low cost and (importantly) flexible way to add a second display.... if such a device can be currently had!
The forgoing is the reason the 'yes' answer is not the short one!

  • Can I connect two monitors to a Mac Mini?

Can I connect two Monitors to a mac mini

Yes, but how depends on what model of Mini and what kind of monitors.  Early models only had one monitor port.  Later models had a Mini-DVI port and a Mini-Displayport.  Current models have a Mini-Displayport and a HDMI port.  The Mini-DVI and Mini-Displayport can attach VGA or DVI monitors, whereas the HDMI port can't use VGA monitors.
Beyond that, you can get Matrox's DualHead2Go or a USB->VGA or USB->DVI adapter.  The Matrox product is a bit expensive and the USB adapters are a bit to slow for games and such.  So, again, the answer is "yes", but with limitations

  • How do I connect two monitors to my macbook pro?

How do I connect two monitors to my macbook pro?  This question applies to both DVI and VGA, as I might have to work with multiple sets of monitors.

The MacBookPro only has enough horsepower in the video card for one external monitor.
If you want two or more, you need a MacPro.
Or a MacBook Pro and a Remote Desktop controlled MacMini.

  • Connecting multiple monitors to my HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook

I am trying to connect two Asus V-238H-P monitors to my laptop. I have had just one of the monitors in the past and got the second today. I connected the first one to my laptop with the VGA cable and it worked wonders. Now, since the HDMI and VGA ports are too close together on the notebook to use them simultaneously, I got a VicTsing USB 3.0 to VGA adapter to use for one and am using HDMI for the other. The problem is that the monitor connected to the adapter is not getting a signal. When I power on the monitor it says " NO VGA SIGNAL" and goes to sleep. The monitor connected to the HDMI is working fine.
I don't know if the adapter is the problem or if the USB port is the problem. When I go into the Screen Resolution (Windows 7 64-Bit) window, it can detect the display on VGA but when I extend the desktop to the display, nothing happens.
Apologies for the paragraph, thanks in advance.

I understand that when you connected 2 monitors, one with the HDMI connection ( works fine) and one with the USB adapter you are getting a no signal message on the USB connected one.  Here are two links I believe will assist you.

  • Connecting Displayport Monitor with Thunderbolt 2

Recently picked up the Samsung UD590 and was using it connected with HDMI on my Mac Pro.  No issues with that.  Knowing Thunderbolt can handle 60fps and the geometry of mini display port match up, picked up a cheap mini displayport to Displayport cable from CableMatters brand to see if you can actually push thunderbolt signal through the old cables.  The connection felt a little loose on the Screen end, and the Signal from Thunderbolt is definitely letting me run 4k at 60fps. (though my software is actually displaying 56fps cap) But there is a line of fuzzy tearing of the images down the right side of the screen about half an inch wide.  I figure its one of three things causing the issue. Either A) This was never meant to be and theres something native about Mini display port cable that just won't let this work, B) the cable is bad, or C) the port on the samsung is bad.
I'm going with Option B and going to return the cable for a new one, but if anyone has any input on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Yes if you use a mini displayport cable verson 1.2 and your monitor supports DP 1.2 as Grand said.
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) or Mac Pro (Late 2013) also support multi-stream transport (MST) displays at 60 Hz . These displays need to be manually configured to use MST. Follow the steps below to use the display's built-in controls to enable this feature.
Sharp PN-K321: Choose Menu > Setup > DisplayPort STREAM > MST > SET
ASUS PQ321Q: Choose OSD menu > Setup > DisplayPort Stream
    Dell UP2414Q and UP3214Q: Choose Menu > Display Setting > DisplayPort 1.2 > Enable
Panasonic TC-L65WT600: Choose Menu > Display Port Settings > Stream Setting > Auto
Your Mac will automatically detect an MST-enabled display. However, your display may require a firmware update to support 60Hz operation. Please contact your display vendor for details. If your specific DisplayPort display is not listed above, check with the display’s manufacturer for compatibility information.

I have the Dell and had to set it up as described above to get 60 Hz.
    Your monitor supports:
Your Samsung UHD monitor is perfect for your game consoles as well as your PC. Thanks to 2 HDMI ports, both your computer and your console can be connected simultaneously, so you don’t have to unplug and plug in each time when you want to switch between them. That means less hassle and more time for entertainment. Thanks to DisplayPort connectivity, your monitor is also ready to connect to UHD-compatible devices and content. *Supports HDMI 1.4 (3840 x 2160, 30Hz) and Display Port 1.2 (3840 x 2160, 60Hz)

  • Can i connect two monitors to my mac book pro with HDMI?

can i connect two monitors to my mac book pro with HDMI?

I retract my previous "No." If you can live with limited performance (slow refresh/choppy action video/no gaming) on the second external monitor, you could use a USB video adapter and a DVI-HDMI adapter to connect it to a USB port on your computer.

Just a note about the system information that appears below your post: iOS 4.3.3 does not run on Macs, only on iPods, iPads and iPhones. When you're posting about your MBP, it would be more useful to those responding to know which version of Mac OS X you're running. Doesn't matter for purposes of this post, but something to remember for future posts.

Plug in the monitor, using an adapter if needed, and then set it up in the Displays pane of System Preferences.

  • What is the best way to connect two monitors to MacBook Air?

I have a MacBook Air and I want to connect two monitors to it (not Thunderbolt Displays). I was thinking about using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter to connect one monitor and a USB to DVI adapter to connect the other (such as Diamond BVU). But I have heard that this causes it to become slightly slow to respond on Mission Control and causes videos to lag. Is there anyway to connect two monitors without the lag? Or should I just use one monitor?

The MacBook Air only allows daisy chaining monitors via Thunderbolt with Apple's Thunderbolt displays so you'll need to go 3rd party with something like -
