Connecting PC to USB Disk Drive on USB Hub

I have set up a USB Hub on the Airport Extreme, the hub has a USB printer and a USB 250 GB Disk Drive.
The iMac has wireless access to both the printer (bonjour) and the disk drive, as well as shared files from the PC.
The PC has access to the internet, printer (through bonjour), but not the disk drive. I have been in the Airport Utility multiple times assigning access to the disk drive, by Disk Password, Base Station Password and by Account. But I always get the same error dialog box after attempting to connect.
Airport Disk Agent:
Unknown user, incorrect password or login is diabled. Please retype the login information or contact the disks administrator.
Since the PC is connected to the Airport Extreme by ethernet cable, the PC has full administrator privaledges.

Personally, I would not launch into a rant against Nokia about this as you have now done unless you have some evidence that it is actually their fault.
I have only seen this problem with recent Nokia phones reported by just a couple of people and I have seen no evidence that it is strictly Nokia's fault - it may be so or it may not be. It does not seem to be widespread.
If you do a Google search for "Error 633 Modem in use" you will see that the problem is encountered, seemingly randomly, by some users with a wide variety if devices not just phones as modems but other modems as well and all from a wide variety of manufacturers, not just Nokia.
If you read through the thousands of Google links on the error 633 problem you will also see that there seems to be no well defined solution to it - seems to be encountered by small proportion of users of a device but not all so it would seem that there are usually local machine issues involved.
In the end, as I set out, if it is important to you that you have the modem working I have found that for me with an N8 (Anna) it all works fine with Win XP installed in a virtual machine on the Win 7 64 PC.

I am trying to connect my JVC Hard Disk Drive Camcorder to my IPAD 2 via the Apple camera kit. I am able to download photos, but video files not showing. Camera shows Mass Stoarge. How can I download videos please?

The file name only has 6 characters and I'm not sure what the .mod format is. So that's why they are not seen by the iPad.
Another way to transfer. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Tip connection using a usb hub

    Hi,
I am trying to set up a tip connection using a usb hub.
I have the following in my /etc/remote file:
    hardwire:\
    :dv=/dev/term/0:br#9600:el=^C^S^Q^U^D:ie=%$:oe=^D:
I am getting the message "link down" when I issue the tip command.
    any help would be appreciated.

Hmm, "tip" works with serial lines, and an "usb hub" is a device on an usb bus. There's a device missing
in your setup, an "usb serial port" device.
Another question: Where is the usb hub and usb serial port device connected? To an USB port on a PC?
Or an USB port on the Sun?

  • Connecting iPhone through USB hub

I have a weird problem. When I connect the iPhone through a USB hub, nothing happens. It doesn't synchronize, it doesn't charge. When I connect the iPhone directly to the computer, with the same cable, it works as supposed.
The weird thing is, I have been connecting the iPhone successfully through this (powered) hub for half a year. But suddenly it doesn't work. Everything else connected through the hub works fine.

You're going to want a USB hub that comes with an AC adapter: the iPhone will draw as much power from the port as it reasonably can, and prefers up to 1 A (USB spec is 500 mA) at 12 V to charge as quick as possible. This tends to lead to undervolt situations on the bus when other devices suddenly draw more (a mouse wakes up, a HD spins up, et cetera).
I use my iPhone 3G with a dock on a USB hub that's powered, and have had minimal issues. This isn't an endorsement, just FYI.

  • Can I use Airport Express to connect to a printer, Time Machine Back up drive, second b/u drive, and scanner through a USB hub? if so, how?

I have an Airport Express that connects to my printer. I'd like to add a scanner, and two back up drives (one for use with Time Capsule, another specifically for photographs backed up from Adobe Lightroom.
The printer connects to the Airport Express through a USB hub and is recognized.  I cannot get the scanner nor either of the back up drives to be recognized.  Is there a way to do it or will I need to rely on a USB hub wired to the USB port of the MacBookPro?  If it is possible, can you walk me through the set up for each?
    Thanks,
    Doug Earle

I'd like to add a scanner, and two back up drives (one for use with Time Capsule, another specifically for photographs backed up from Adobe Lightroom.
Unfortunately, the USB port on the AirPort Express will only work with a compatible printer.
It will not work with a scanner, copier, or hard drive.
It should be possible to do what you want by connecting a powered USB hub to your Mac and then connecting the devices to the powered hub.
The setup for the scanner and hard drive would be covered by the manfacturers documentation, so providing specific advice for those types of products would be outside the realm of this support area.
But, if you can provide model numbers, it is always possible that another user who is using those products might see this post.

  • Access to external drives connected to Airport Extreme via USB Hub

I have 2 computers connected wirelessly to an Airport Extreme 802.11n base station. I have a Belkin powered USB hub connected to the USB port on the Extreme. There is a Lacie hard drive, a USB printer and a Kingston flash drive connected to the USB hub.
The printer was connected using Bonjour and is working fine. The other devices connected to the USB hub aren't getting picked up. They did work at one point, but are no longer viewable from the computers (MAC Book and Windows XP). How can I re-configure the Extreme or my computers so that they'll work again?

DLNA = Digital Living Network Alliance. DLNA works in a Server-Client fashion with the Server providing the means to stream audio/video files to the client. DLNA servers are also called media servers. The AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), with an attached USB HDD at best, can perform as a media storage device ... not as a server. You would still need a media server (either hardware or software) to perform this role.
For example, I use a software DLNA-compliant media server, called TwonkyServer. I run this server on one of my Mac minis. It gets its media files that are stored on a USB HDD attached to my 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn). TwonkyServer then streams these video files to my Xbox 360 which performs as a media client/player.

If the hard disk shows up when it is connected directly to the base station, then I would try a different powered hub.
Otherwise, the hard disk drive may not be compatible, or perhaps it is incorrectly formatted as NTFS.

  • Airport Extreme, Belkin USB Hub, and external hard drive

I'm having a serious meltdown. I've been at this all day long and I've reviewed SEVERAL, if not all, discussion threads. I've seen my question many times on many threads, but yet to find a solution!
Just got the hub, and I tried today to connect the Belkin USB hub so I could get my external hard drive accessible from my Mac. My external drive worked fine on my PC. I recently moved to Mac.
Printer works with no issue at all, but my external drive does not even list in either the Disk Utility or System Profiler. It just doesn't get recognized. I've tried EVERYTHING...switching ports, connecting directly to my Macbook, restarting, etc., etc., etc. NOTHING.
Anyone have any insight to this? I'm ready to throw in the towel.

Ok I'll try that! Uh oh...now I can't even see the external drive on my PC! I also spent some time looking at the manufacturer's website to see if there's any software I may have downloaded before using the hard drive, but the website is not helpful in that capacity (www.cavalrystorage.com). I don't remember having software when I first started using it. Furthermore, I just looked at paperwork I received when I got the drive back in Nov.06 and it says not to use "the CD if you have Windows", (to install a driver, perhaps?) which of course, I did. But now I can't find what disc I may have gotten with the drive. It also had no specific instructions for a Mac. Although the external drive has wonderful reviews, and says you can use it with a PC or Mac. I hope this helps. I certainly appreciate your help!
I'm starting to think something has gone awry with the external hard drive? I've tried connecting through the hub (my printer works at least!), direct to AirPort, and direct to laptop and nothing.

  • Can I use a USB hub to connect to multiple USB ports from one GPIB-USB-HS?

I have one instrument which has a GPIB-USB-HS connected and the USB cable is connected to a USB hub. Can I have multiple PCs to connect using USB hub at their respective USB ports? If so, how many PCs can I connect using the USB cable?
I have downloaded the latest NI-VISA from the website.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You would first need a hub that allows you to switch between multiple pc's and then only one pc at a time would be connected and in control.
When you buy this special type of hub, one of the specs is how many pc connections it has.

  • Connection to USB hub gets lost

    Hello,
I recently switched to Maverick since then I had some problems with the connection to one of my external HDD.
It was connected via a USB hub from Konig.
Then more of my USB devices on the hub gave me problems (file index not found, device connection lost etc).
So I bought a new USB hub (compatible with Mac OS) and now after a few minutes all devices where gone.
When I plug them into my Mac Pro, the HDD work fine.
I never had this problem with my older OS (I only recenty switched from 10.6 to 10.8 - then my internal HDD crashed due to power cut) since then Maverick.
    What is wrong?
I saw another thread on the community about similar problems with headsets.
Is Maverick unable to cope with several USB input?
    Like to hear your input

  • Connecting a scanner with USB Hub

Configuration: Scanner (Epson 7000 GT), printer (Canon 6200 S) are connected to a USB-Hub. The Hub ist connected to one of my macs (mini with 1,25 GHz oder G4 with DP 867 GHz).
When I don't use a hub there are no problems.
Scanning with the mini through the hub does work, when the hub is connected to the rear USB-port. Connecting to the hub through the keybord-hub (hub to hub), preview-scanning works. But doing the real scan fails. Only a twinkling status bar comes up and stays.
Using the G4 and the hub, Image Capture does not even find the scanner, no matter, which USB-port I use. But the scanner can be found in the System Informations.
With Gentoo-Linux on the G4, scanning and printing work perfectly. No matter, if I use a hub or not, so it is NOT a hardware issue!
Anyone who has the same problems?

If I waa you, I'd do a research on USB 3 scanners - here is some interesting info:

  • Macbook Air + 30" Apple Cinema Display + Powered USB hub

I just received my dual link DVI to mini display port adapter in the mail today, and so far it's working just fine connecting my newer generation Macbook Air to the older 30" Apple Cinema display (the Air is closed, with an Apple wireless mouse/keyboard connected via Bluetooth).
I'm wondering if anyone has any success connecting a powered USB hub to either the adapter itself or the 30" display in order to gain some USB functionality out of the Air? I have a powered 4 port D-Link hub which worked fine directly into the Air, but I can't seem to power any devices when it's hooked up to the 30" display or directly into the adapter. I can't even get devices (external powered hard drives, Mbox) to work when plugged into the screen directly (no hub).
I called AppleCare about the problem and they said they don't support USB hubs via the 30" Apple Cinema Display when connected to the Macbook Air, but if anyone has any experience with this situation or if someone could offer me advice to get USB functionality out of my MBA + 30" ACD, it would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
    Unfortunately not.

  • Possible/Safe to use a usb hub on Airport Express?

I'm about to purchase my second external hard drive for backups and I was wondering if it is safe/plausable/possible to plug a usb hub into the USB port of the Airport Express to connect my two hard drives (and maybe a printer) to connect all three of these devices to my local network? Has anyone tried this? I'd to know before I get the usb hub

I was wondering if it is safe/plausable/possible to plug a usb hub into the USB port of the Airport Express to connect my two hard drives (and maybe a printer) to connect all three of these devices to my local network?
Unfortunately, the AirPort Express will not support a hard drive connected to its USB port. Only compatible printers are supported.
So, while you could connect a powered USB hub to the AirPort Express, it would only function correctly with multiple printers.
To support a hard drive, you would need an AirPort Extreme.

  • IPad 2 iOS 5 Windows 7 USB hub issue solution

I thought I would post this message to help those running Windows 7 (or other versions of Windows) that might be having "USB Device Unrecognized" issues with their iPad when going to iOS 5.  In my case it is an iPad 2.
Long story short... When upgrading to iOS 5 using iTunes 10.5, if you are getting "USB Device Unrecognized" error messages or Windows has trouble installing the USB driver with your iPad (or maybe another iDevice) and that device is connected to a USB hub of some sort that may have worked previously under iOS 4.x or earlier, the solution for me was to connect the iPad to one of my PC's main USB ports (as in the ones directly connected to the motherboard). For whatever reason, Windows is not able to recognize my iPad 2 running the first release version of iOS 5 when it is connected to the USB ports on my Dell 2408 LCD panel's hub. Even though this was never an issue with iOS 4.x
    More detail...
I am running Windows 7 (64 bit) with all the latest updates and I had an iPad 2 running iOS 4.3.5 and I always docked it and my iPhone 4 to my PC using the USB hub on my Dell 2408 LCD panel.  I NEVER had any USB issues with either device until going to iTunes 10.5 & iOS 5.
The issue came up when I was doing a restore of the iOS 5 GM (which is the same as the final release of iOS 5) to my iPad 2.  When I started the restore, the iPad 2 gets reset to DFU mode (or whatever mode it gets in to start the restore) and at that point Windows complained about the USB Device being unrecognized.  After I gave up I told iTunes to do a regular restore back to the previous version (4.3.5) and Windows had no issues seeing my iPad and doing the restore connected to the same USB port.
So there appeared to be something about iTunes 10.5 or iOS 5 causes Windows to not be able to install the correct driver and have "USB Device Unrecognized" errors when my iPad 2 was connected to my Dell monitors USB hub.  I should mention that my iPhone 4 running iOS 5 has no problems being connected to my Dell monitors USB hub.  I tried all the suggestions that Apple has on their support section.  Restarting the Apple Mobile Device service, Uninstalling the bad USB device under the Device Manager in Windows and rescanning for devices, un-installing and then reinstalling iTunes 10.5 and the other Apple software etc... etc... Windows still could not find the correct USB driver and couldn't recognize the device.  Nothing worked or when it did it only lasted for a very short time.  One of the 4 ports on my Dell finally installed the correct drivers but then it stopped working.
The solution was for me to use the built in USB ports that are on my PC itself.  After I did that, Windows has no issues installing the proper driver for my iPad 2 and seeing it once I used the PC's USB ports.
For more detail see this post on the macrumors.com forums here...
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=13574275

Yes, Apple has caused people to go through massive panic, anxiety and wasted time by not coming out and telling us about this problem. They must know about it. How can we tell them? Now I understand why it took me 50 tries to upgrade to OS5. We all got the same crazy errors that caused us to reinstall iTunes, turn off our firewalls, buy new USB cables and basically waste tons of time and energy, when the solution was very simple. Plug your device into a USB port on your computer.
After years of using a peripheral USB hub successfully it's no wonder we all started freaking out and thinking it was a major problem. Yes, I'm blowing off some steam, but I've been an Apple fanatic for a long time and I'm not happy about their lack of response to this issue.

  • Printing issues via a Belkin USB hub to a Samsung ML-2240

    Hello All,
I am trying to help a friend of mine setup wireless printing from her Macbook. Unfortunately I don’t know very much about Macs and OSX but I am a quick learner
    The setup:
Virgin Media Cable Modem -> connected (RJ45) to a Wireless Linksys Cable Modem -> connected (RJ45) to a Belkin USB Hub.
From the USB hub I have two printers connected:
    1 x HP Deskjet
    1 x Samsung ML-2240 Laserjet
Both these printers install to the Macbook perfectly as default USB devices (wirelessly) via the USB Hub. They also appear correctly in the Belkin USB Hub software console.
The HP printer works perfectly every time it is used, no issues whatsoever. The Samsung printer prints ok the first time but the print jobs do not disappear from the print queue on the Macbook, the print job doesn’t appear to complete even though it has actually printed without any issue.
The problem this causes is that after the first print job has been printed it is not possible to print again. Even if I delete the print job from the queue manually I cannot still not print a second time. The only way I can get the printer to print again is to unplug and then plug back in the USB cable that is connected to the USB Hub. When I unplug the cable the print job disappears from the queue on the Macbook. I can then reconnect the USB cable and connect to the printer and it will print again.
I have made sure that I have the latest firmware on the Macbook which is running 10.5.* OSX. I have also installed the latest Firmware and Drivers on the Samsung Printer and the USB Hub.
Is there a different way to setup the print queue that you think may help? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I spent 5 hours on this yesterday and it still isn’t working
    Thanks
    M

    Further info:
    - it appears that the firmware version is 5.7 on this AirPort Extreme
    - when I plug in my other printer (Samsung ML-1710), it appears in the list of USB printers in AirPort Utility.
    - unfortunately, the ML-1710 is no longer supported in Snow Leopard
    - under Printer Setup, Driver, I selected Generic PCL Laser Printer for the ML-1710 as a test - the print queue opened, my printer did its "about to print sound", the print queue told me the job had printed, but nothing came out (yes there was paper )
    - found the entry below (from Neptune78 on http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10067336&#10067336) re. driver for ML-1710, followed steps successfully until the final printing part when the printer stalls and pauses @ 10% printing stage
    Any help appreciated

+I got my ML-1710 working today on Snow Leopard. Here's what I did:+
+1. Go to System Preferences -> Print & Fax -> delete printer from the list.+
    +2. Reinstall the drivers found here: http://www.samsung.com/au/support/download/supportDownDetail.do?group=printermul tifunctionfax&type=printermultifunctionfax&subtype=monolaserprinter&modelnm=ML-1710&disp_nm=ML-1710&language=&cate_type=all&mType=DR&dType=D&vType=&cttID =196410&prd_ia_cd=06010400&modelcd=&menu=download&menu2=detail+
+3. Return to System Preferences -> Print & Fax and add the ML-1710 back to the list of printers. In the "Print Using" dropdown, you should be able to select "Samsung ML-1710" (if not automatically selected).+
    +4. Click "Add"+
+You should now be good to go.+
