Connecting playbook to a TV

I am having trouble connecting the playbook to a TV using HDMI.  Any help to resolve this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

You might want to start by buying an HDMI cable.
Plug one end into the PlayBook HDMI port and the other into the TV.
Change the TV channel to the HDMI port.
At this point, you should see the PlayBook screen on your TV with no apps running. If not, open up the options screen and tap on the 'HDMI' option. Make sure that 'default to mirror mode' is turned on and you should be good to go.

  • Connecting playbook to desktop using Windows XP

I get the idea that no one has ever connected desktop to playbook using windows xp as the platform.
    Am I correct ?
Is my best option to just dump desktop in a bin and try to connect playbook directly to the usb ???
Comms works fine for back up but I guess its something windows xp does to drivers - similar to the problem with windows 7.
Does playbook interface with ANY windows platform ?????

  • Can't connect PlayBook to *my* WPA2 wifi (D-Link Wireless N Router) - very frustrated

I'm gettting massively frustrated with this and would appreciate any assistance.
OK, so to start I'm a developer and I've managed to use my PlayBook for months, connecting to various WiFi networks without issue... except at home.
I have actually connected to it 100's of times, but the connection is flakey and often it fails to connect because it can't get an IP Address (my router is set to offer up 100's of them by DHCP... ONLY my PlayBook has issues getting one)
I have thus far had no issue connecting the following devices to my router:
    Laptops (5 different brands/models),
    iPad,
    iPod (4 different devices)
    Blackberry phones (3 different models)
    iPhone (2 different models)
but the PlayBook always seems to have issues...
I've tried connecting using the "sync" WPS feature both by pressing the button on the router, as well as entering a PIN on the router config page - no luck.
I've tried entering the correct password multiple times - no luck... it always fails to get an IP Address.
I've even pre-assigned a dedicated IP Address to the MAC Address of the PlayBook... (all my other devices skip it) yet the PlayBook won't take it.
    The router is a D-Link DIR-615 H/W /ver C1, Firmware ver 3.13NA Wireless N.
Its entirely possible that I've goofed something up, and I'm willing to try anything to resolve it - however if anyone else is having similar issues please chime in... and for anyone at RIM with 5min free... a quick "paranoia" once over look at the connecting / IP gathering code in this area would be greatly appreciated... in case there's an odd "off by 1" error of some kind in this area.
Finally, I'm not sure if there is any more info to provide when the PlayBook does fail to get an IP... but if there is an error message or log that us users can look at (or get in an OS update) it would be helpful in trying to diagnose why the connection fails.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Steve

I was having the same issue until yesterday.
After spending a couple of nights dealing with BB Support techs, I came up with this steps and worked for me, even though that Playbook should connect automatically as other devices do. Moreover, of course I am not going to ask everyday the IT guys for a modem reset
    Here it goes :
1- If you own a lap top/pc connected to your work Wifi network, open the network adapter window on the PC. Go to wifi adapter and left-click on properties in order to display detailed connection status.
2- From there you may obtain a valid subnet mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Secondary DNS.
3- Since the IP Address was already obtained by your Playbook while trying to connect, it will be asking for the same IP each time, so write down the Playbook  IP too. You can access it from the wifi? Icon on the wifi configuration script on the playbook.
(The issue here was that for some reason, my Playbook on "auto IP mode" was choosing a different default gateway number than the correct one. I still can't figure why, but I'm not going to invest more time on it, until a new software update becomes available and go from there.)
4- In your playbook tap the wifi icon and go to saved networks, tap on edit (pencil) and delete your office previous connection.
5- Create manually  a new wifi connection and unselect "auto IP mode". You will have the opportunity to copy all the information mentioned above. IP, Subnet Mask, Primary DNS. Secondary DNS and Default Gateway.
    6- Tap save and connect.
Hopefully you Playbook will be online and ready to navigate.

  • Trouble connecting playbook to windows PC when using AVG Internet Security and USB cable ?

I have spent ages trying to get my PC (windows 7 64bit ) to talk to the Playbook. I found the following:
Windows device manager sees the playbook and will let me back up and restore but not to see the files on the Playbook. Desktop software says problem with connection. On the "computer" window it shows drives but not the Playbook. Only hard drive and DVD drives. Looks like AVG is blocking the USB and as yet they have not come up with a solution and latest software wont let you manually configure the firewall other than allow and block (previous versions allowed you to config inbound and outbound rules)
Elsewhere on the forums a solution was provided but it meant leaving the firewall set to "off" or "allow all" which really is a waste of time having a firewall at all.
Please try this and see if it resolves your problems, It sorted it for me !
    Remove AVG Internet Security 2014
Load AVG antivirus 2014 ( freeware) so now you are OK for antivirus protection
Load Microsoft Security Essentials (freeware) so now you are  OK for firewall protection
Playbook now talks and can be configured, also the contents of the playbook drive can be seen alongside your PC drives and DVD drives in the "computer" window of your PC  The playbook drive has now been allowed to be mounted where as it was blocked before
I know how frustrating this can be I have spent ages on it ..so give it a try

The USB-parallel cable needs a driver that supports Windows 7 x64 in addition to the driver the printer needs.  Additionally make sure the port settings are correct, usually the port will be something like USB001: or USB002: for the USB-parallel port. Some cables may provide a virtual LPT port such as LPT3:.  Check the documentation for your unit for details.
The posts here list models of USB-parallel ports folks here have had success with in Windows 7.

  • Connecting Playbook to a TV without a HDMI input

I would like to connect my Playbook to a TV but it is a bit older TV, doesn't have an HDMI input. The inputs it has are DVI, RCA (yellow, red, white), component (red, green, blue), S-video and coaxial. Ideally, I would like the audio going thru the TV also.
What is my best option and what accessories do I need? Thanks.

try an hdmi <-> dvi adapter
My W-Lan is completely secure. Wether I nor a hacker would use it with a playbook

  • Ongoing Issue Connecting Playbook to Laptop via USB

I have never been able to get my PB to work via the USB cable, meaning I have had to do all file transfers through wi-fi , which is incredibly slow.  Here is what I have tried plus some notes:
    - Driver appears to be correctly installed in Device Manager.  I tried to uninstall and reinstall (when I do the reinstall I can see the PB as a mounted CD drive, this is the only time I can see this)
    - I tried turning off all firewalls etc - still won't work.
    - When I plug it in, Windows say 'Blackberry device PIN XXXX has been connected to the system, initialising device access' followed by 'your device is ready to use'.  Still won't work, don't see any mounted drives in My Computer either.
    - In the BB software itself, my PB appears in the 'Device' menu.  When I click on it it just goes to 'Connecting' in the bottom right and stays in this mode indefinitely.
    - The one time I did manage to get it to connect, it said 'A problem occurred while attempting to connect to your Blackberry Device' and switched back to 'Connecting' again.  I've attached a screenshot of this.
    - Blackberry device manager appears in my task files, doesn't display any issues.  PB appears in there as a 'Connected Device'.  From the 'About' menu in there:
      * BlackBerry Device Manager Version 6.0.0.48
      * BBDevMgr Version 4.2.0.15
      * RIM USB Driver Version 4.2.0.14
      * PlayBook RNDIS Driver Interface Version 1.0.0.38
      * RIM USB Serial Device Version 2.2.0.0 (I think ,it's hard to see this one)
    - I am on Windows 7.
    - One thing I have noticed is that Windows appears to search for the latest Driver through Windows Update everytime I connect it.  Again I don't know if this is normal.
    - I noticed only one error on the PB itself saying 'Unable to charge battery with connected source'
    - There is no issue with the USB cable, I use it for other things.
    - The only other thing worth noting is that my PB must take over 5 minutes to boot up.  I don't know if this is normal or not...

That unable to charge message is one new to 2.1 and simply warns that pc usb at 500mA is not enough to do a decent charge. Ignore it.
What version of Desktop Software do you have, I can't tell from your list. I believe the latest for windoze is 7.1?
Did you try to map a drive to your playbook like map drive z to \\xxxxxxxxxxx\Media where xxxxxxxxis the "Tablet Network Name" or the 169.x.x.x usb ip address.

  • Connecting Playbook to computer question

I know you can take your playbook and connect it to a screen and output what ever is on your playbook to the screen but is it possible to do the opposite like connect it to your computer and output your what ever is on your computer to your playbook. Is it possible to use your playbook as a touchscreen to control your computer? do i need an app or program if possible?
If this is not possible does anyone know if an adobe illustrator app is coming to the playbook any time soon?
    Any reply would be helpful.

No, on all questions... I have not seen any app that will allow you to control your PC from the Playbook.
As far as Illustrator... nothing that I have read would indicate it is being made made ready for the Playbook.

  • Catch-22'd, can't connect PlayBook to desktop because I can't upgrade the OS because I can't connect it to desktop.

Hi. So, bit of a story here, but my blackberry is officially "Property of Research in Motion", and it arrived as… a PlayBook in a padded manialla envelope, and nothing else. I started it up, reset the system because I didn't know the password, and now I'm at the problem where it asks me to agree to something in the setup, but it won't tell me what and won't let me advance or retry.
This video is an example of the problem I'm having, only with more options in the menu near the end. My menu has no options. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NpMA6YsBAM
So, according to my research, the solution to this is to download the latest desktop manager and use it to upgrade the PlayBook OS so the bug stops happening.
So, when I attach the PlayBook to my computer it makes the little USB-plugged-in noise, pops up the Blackberry Manager thing. However, it just says 'connect a device' on a grey background. I've waited, and the message doesn't go away. (I'm using Windows XP sp3 here, btw, and I downloaded the manager today, version 610_b038.) So, I tried another cable, because that's what might be wrong. One shopping trip later, we know it's not the cable.
Looking up the solution to the manager not recognising the PlayBook, I find that I need to turn WiFi off, restart the tablet, and then it's all good. Well, that'd be nice, but since I'm in 'setup' mode I can't seem to do that. When I turn the wifi off (disconnect button) and restart, when the tablet turns back on it reconnects the wifi.
So, I need to upgrade the tablet software to be able to complete the setup process on it. I need to have completed the setup process in order to upgrade the software.
    What do I do?

isnt there a go bak button to get to wifi setup again?
also have you rebootedyour WiFi router? I had to do this at my house for an upgrade as the Routers DHCP server got confused and after reboot it worked fine.

  • Bridge fails to connect Playbook to Pearl emails

Playbook has been connecting to Pearl emails through Bridge for months but is suddenly failing. It still connects to contacts, memopad, tasks etc on Pearl with no problem, but tries to open emails, then fails to populate. It flashes on and off  constantly with green waiting symbol circling. Any suggestions anyone?

have you done a battery pull on the pearl and restarted the playbook?  I'm also thinking about removing the device from bridge and readding.

  • Unable to connect Playbook to Appworld

I was previously able to connect to Appworld, but tonight, after entering my login ID on the Appworld site, I get a pop-up to enter my Playbook device password. However, I have tried entering it at least 6 times, disconnected and reconnected it, but each time, I get the following message:
    "Unable To Connect Your Device
You have not entered the correct BlackBerry device password. Try entering your password on your device. You cannot access BlackBerry App World on your computer until you have correctly entered your device password."
I've googled it and seen others with the same problem, but no definite solution has been offerred.
    SOS please. Thanks in advance.

Sorry perhaps did'nt make myself clear - I don' want to connect both phone and PlayBook to my PC at the same time - just one device OR the other at a time :-) Also, to make it clear, I am not connecting to App World via both the device and the PC - I have the device WiFi turned OFF.
Why do I want to connect to App World via my PC?  Because it's a darn side easier to edit my account from a desktop - I want to change payment details, for example, and update my catalogue for the specific device while I browse App World on the PC.  I am unable to to either of these because of the error message that I have not entered the correct device password (even though I have!).  I have no problem logging on to App World and browsing unfiltered apps but I cannot browse the catalogue for my device.  My devices are recognised (i.e. correct PIN number displayed) but the device password is not.
If I can't browse App World on my PC then why bother to have a PC web page that I can log in to with BlackBerry ID?  Just a little frustrating ...

  • Cannot connect Playbook to computer. Tried all fixes.

    Hey,
since a few weeks my PlayBook just cannot connect to my computer. The desktop software sees it but doesn't mount it, nor can it access files.
I have seen fixes about TCPIP NetBios Helper service not running or anti-virus. Nothing helps. I can see the network connection in "Manage Adapters" but that doesn't seem to help.
Is there any fix planned? The Playbook is now useless.
    I am on Win7x64.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hey,
thanks for your reply, but you can trust me that I tried everything I was able to find here to fix the issue.
I have found the fix myself now.
The service "Workstation" was disabled and once I started it, the PlayBook instantly connected and everything works fine. No driver issues, no "Client for Windows" missing issues, no TCP-IP Helper issues. It was something completely undocumented.
Find the Service under Services in Windows 7 (just type into the start button search)
Workstation - Creates and maintains client network connections to remote servers using the SMB protocol. If this service is stopped, these connections will be unavailable. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.
BlackBerry should add this to the KnowledgeBase and document their dependencies properly.
