Connecting printer through wireless Print Server

Wireless Dlink DPR-1260, hooked up to network. ( using Linksys wireless router and Windows XP Home)
Two usb printer ports. Loaded HP laserjet 2300 series using the print server software wizard.. works fine...prints remotely.
The P.S. created the tcp/ip ports and loaded the drivers after requesting the HP driver disk.
But, when loading the HP color laserJet 2550 series, it asks for the disk, but says the driver inf files not available. I downloaded from the HP web site the XP drivers, and when I pointed to the unzipped files, said the same thing.
I used the XP driver... should I have used the Universal Print Driver?
On the P.S. screen the HP 2300 shows up as HP LaserJet 2300 series, and the LPR Queque name is : LaserJet 2300
But when I manually loaded the 2550, The name shows up as HP color LaserJet 2550 ser and the Queque name is color LaserJet 25.
Both printers work fine connected directly to the printer, but the 2550 will not print through the P.S.
Since the drivers for the 2550 are loaded and it prints when hard wired, tell me how to find the drivers installed on the computer, so I can point to them there.
Thanks

Printing with the built-in network protocols (Windows Printing, IP printing) requires a CUPS print driver. HP doesn't provide CUPS drivers (yet) - their drivers are written to only use USB. You can try the HP Photosmart P1100 Gimp-Print driver included in OS X.
There is no CUPS driver for your specific model, that I can find.

  • Viewing client printer connections print server

Is there any way to show what client machines are connected on a windows 2012 print server?
In other words which windows 7 machines are currently using a network printer shared off of the print server?  Something like in computer management where you get to see open files on server.

    Hi,
Regarding your question, there isn't a method similar to what you're describing in the "Computer Management" MMC snap-in to see users that are "connected" to printers. The
"connection" is ephemeral and only made when the user has actually submitted a print job.
In addition, here is a script which will help us tell which users are connected to a print queue, it may be useful.

  • BEFW11S4,ver2 - connection problems through wireless routers

I have one desktop, running 2000, connected to the BEFW11S4, via ethernet. I have another desktop, running XP, connected via ethernet. I have one laptop running XP, connected wirelessly to the router. And I have another laptop running Vista connected wirelessly to the router. I have set them all up on the same network, to get IPs automatically. The router has IP 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0. Computer 1(1st desktop) is 192.168.1.100, Computer 2 (2nd desktop) is 192.168.1.101, laptop 1 is 192.168.1.102, and the last laptop is .103, all on the same subnet as the router.
I can get to the internet from all computers
All computers can ping the router, 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.100 can ping the router, but none of the other 3 computers.
192.168.1.101 can ping the router, and the other desktop (.100), but not the two laptops
192.168.1.102 can ping the router, and the first desktop (.100), but not the .101 or .103
192.168.1.103 can ping the router, and the first desktop, (.100), but not the .101 or .102 IPs
I have network and file sharing enabled on all four computers, and they all show up in my "HOME" network, in My network places, on all four computers.
I have two printers connected to the 2nd desktop, (.101), with printer sharing enabled on both of them, yet I cannot get to either printer from any of the machines...which make sense, since I can't ping them...but, doesn't make sense, since the computer their connected to shows up in my network...(may try hooking one or both printers to the .100 machine tomorrow and see if that works.
I had it working before, but I think I had to set IP addresses manually in each machine, and it had to be a different network than the default 192.168.1.0 network. I haven't tried that again, (I'm getting burntout with everything I have tried).
Whats the problem? Do I have to set static routes in each machine? I wouldn't think I would have to since they are all on the same local network, and all on the same workgroup.
I had the same problem setting up a two machine network at my wifes daycare as well. The desktop machine is running XP, the laptop is running Vista. Both machines on the same network, and workgroup, with file file and printer sharing on, but I can't get the laptop to connect to the desktop printer. What do I need to do that I am not doing right now?

as I said in the 1st post, I have file and printer sharing turned on in all the machines already. and I have doublechecked it twice, and reset it twice on all machines.  Tonight I was finally able to ping all the machines, and print to both machines, but only after I set the IP address in both desktops manually to a 192.168.5.0 network.  I left the two laptops that connect wirelessly to assign ip automatically, and restarted all the computers again, and then I was able to ping all machines, from all machines, and get to the two printers.
If I manually change both desktops back to the default 192.168.1.0 network, and follow the same restart procedure, they don't work.  doesn't make any sense...

  • HP Deskjet920C on printer server US Robotics

    Hi friends,
I have a little question on my printer connected to a wireless routermodemprinter server. I have setted it up correctly, but when I send prints on the printer, nothing happens. When the printer is connected direclty into iMac USB it works fine.
    Config:
    iMac 17 2GHz 2GB ram
    Us robotics router wireless 9108
printer on usb jack on router setted at 192.168.1.1:1631
Mac OS X sees the printer, I can send to it data, the printer driver says it is printing... but no sheet moves in the printer. Obviously I choose IP printer, not USB one.
Ah, one more thing: when I add a new printer in Mac OS X, I have to type IP address and os x says the address is correct and valid. Below, I have to choose the printer from a list, but 920C is not listed... Maybe that ?
Thanks a lot to my helpers.
    Carlo
iMac 17 2 GHz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The driver provided by HP is for USB only. You should use the driver HP Deskjet 900 Series, Gimp-Print, included in OS X.
    print server -
US Robotics uses a non-standard port (1631), so you have to use an Advanced setup.
In Printer Setup, click ADD, then hold down the option key and click More Printers. From the first menu pull-down, select Advanced. In the second pull-down, select Appsocket/HP Jetdirect. Fill in the URI like this:
    socket://192.168.1.1:1631
    Good luck.

  • Connecting to a wireless print server, please help!!!

i have a canon mp500 connected to a network through a wireless printserver and wireless router. the printer works when directly connected to my macbook, but not when connected to the print server. i contacted linksys and they sent a docment on how to set the printer up using it's ip address. still didn't work (the instructions were for 10.1 and 10.2). i have downloaded and installed the current mac os x drivers from the canon website with no luck. please help

I'm no expert, but I was able setup HP printer connected wirelessly to AEBS by using Apple's Printer Setup Utility and Bonjour. I was, however, able to install the HP drivers using the software that came with the printer, but it sounds like you could not do so with Canon?
Anyway, here are Apple's help files for adding an IP printer:
    "Connecting to an IP printer
An IP printer is a network printer that uses TCP/IP protocols (such as LPD/LPR, IPP, or Socket or Jet Direct) to communicate with your computer. If the IP printer you want to use is not listed when you print, you can add it to your list of available printers.
To add an IP printer, you need to know its IP address or DNS name. See your network administrator for assistance.
Open the document to print, and choose File > Print.
Choose Add Printer from the Printer pop-up menu, and click IP Printer in the dialog that appears.
Choose the appropriate printing protocol from the Protocol pop-up menu.
Type the IP address or DNS name for the printer in the Address field.
If your printer requires it, type the queue name for your printer in the Queue Name field. If you don't know the queue name, see your network administrator for assistance.
Enter a name and location for the printer, so you can identify it in the Printer pop-up menu.
If the Print Using pop-up menu does not display the name of your printer's model, choose the item appropriate for your printer from the Print Using pop-up menu, and then select your printer in the Model Name list.
    Click Add.
Usually, your computer can detect whether a printer has special accessories installed, such as additional paper trays, extra memory, or a duplex unit. If it can't, a dialog appears that lets you specify them. Make sure the settings in that dialog accurately reflect your printer's installed accessories so you can take full advantage of them."

  • Problem connecting to Canon i960 through Dlink DPR1260 print server

With the help from another thread, I was able to install the driver for my Canon i960 for iMac OS X 10.7, and the printer works perfect with USB connection. However, when trying to setup the wireless connection via Dlink DPR1260 print server, I keep getting error:" An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Unable to communicate with the printer at this time.". I believe I followed all setup steps correct for adding printer with IP (LPD, IP address, Queue name, and selected Canon i960), as I was able to get the wireless setup for MacAir without problem. Wondering whether anyone had any tips getting iMac to work with the print server. Below are the screen shot of the setup and error.

Thank you, PAHU, this solved a problem I've been having for quite a while.
I have a Canon Pixma iP4200 connected to a DSL router (an SFR Neufbox 4, issued here in France by the operator SFR). With OS 10.6 on my daughter's MacBook Pro, connecting to the printer through the print share function on this DSL router worked fine using the printer drivers supplied through Canon and Apple. Then when we got an iMac with 10.7, impossible to get it to work. I had exactly the error shown by louiema above.
But now that I installed Gutenprint 5.2.9, I was able to configure the connection instantly, and now I can move my printer back where it belongs, and not have it sitting on the floor beside my desk.
Brilliant ! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I will now share this solution with my francophone community.

  • I have a HP2101nw wireless print server and it will not connect to my router.

The status of my wireless print server always says it is not connected and idle on both my laptops.  I have tried to connect through the advanced settings but it does not find my router.  I have tried to connect manually but it fails.  Could a firewall be blocking it?  My router works fine on the internet for both laptops.  Any ideas?

If other wireless devices are connecting OK, you know that the AirPort Express is operating correctly since all devices are receiving the same wireless signal from the Express.
It's possible, but extremely unlikely that there will be other Samsung phone users on an Apple support forum, so I would suggest that you check with Samsung support to reset the Samsung phone back to default wireless settings so you can set up a new connection again.

  • I want to know if Ican connect a print server (to print with several wireless printers) to the new airport express given that it has wan and lan ports. Tks!

The print server that I want to connect allows me to choose among 2 usb printers and 01 serail port printer. It needs to be connected to a router through a lan port. Given that the all new airport express now come with a wan and a lan port, i want to know if I can connect this device to the airport express.

    You're welcome.
Beware that while USB print servers are commonly available and inexpensive, finding one with a serial port is more of a challenge. Apple Stores in the US do not sell them. Call the iStore before going there.
If you need recommendations for obtaining a print server with a serial port, let me know.

  • HP Photosmart Plus B209a is no longer printing through wireless connection.  Appreciate any suggestions...

Hello.  My HP Photosmart Plus B209a all in one printer stopped working through wireless connection yesterday.  I have tried to delete the printer and reinstall using HP Setup Assistant, but when I attempt to configure the device for a wireless network, the HP Setup Assistant quits unexpectedly. I can succesfully set up the printer, but only for use with a USB cable.  I noticed that there was an HP printer software update installed yesterday version 2.16.1. Could this have anything to do with it?  I read something about airprint in the support discussions but I dont see the nearby printer option anywhere?  I checked the list of compatible printers and mine is on there so I am not sure what I am missing here.  I would hate to go out and buy a new printer.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

I have the same printer but my problem stems from installing a new router. I went through the exact same steps that you did and the HP Installer crashed on me 5 different times at the exact same spot. I called HP and got through to them and after 15 minutes he informed me that this particulart printer is no longer "supported" and software is not available. I told him that I downloaded the update that was available today. He was no help whatsoever. I also can print via USB but that is not at all what I want. The downside of this printer anyways is that it is not Airprint compatible. So, its either reinstall the old router or buy a new printer. This *****!

  • Printing through a wireless print server

I've got a Macbook running 10.4.11 that connects wirelessly to my home network. I recently purchased a Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo NAS that has a built-in print server. I connected my printer to the NAS and can print wirelessly from all my PCs, but not my Mac. The Mac sees the printer as a "generic postscript printer", however, when I try and print, it goes "ding" and doesn't do anything. I've tried changing from "generic" to my printer model, but my model (Canon MP160) doesn't show up on the list. I've gone and installed the drivers from Canon, but it still doesn't show up in the list of available Canon models.
Otherwise, the NAS works fine from all computers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Whew! After researching and researching, I tried downloading and installing the latest Gutenprint package. It included CUPS drivers for a Canon printer very close to mine and when selecting this printer in the setup, it seems to work OK. Not perfect, but it does work.

  • How to connect to Linksys Wireless Print Server (WPS54GU2) from WIndows 7

I tried the Print Server Utility that was loaded from the WPS54GU2 user install disk. Ended up with an AddPort error.
Went ahead and created local printer for printer I was trying to get to (Epson Color Stylus 400). Did a "Printer Properties" on the printer after it is was created and clicked on the "Port" tab. Clicked on the "Add Port" button and selected "Standard TCP/IP Port" from list. Clicked on "New Port" . Wizard came up and clicked "Next" on this screen. I typed in the IP address of my Print Server (with no Port Name) and let it search for a while and it eventually failed. A screen came up requesting "additional port information" so I clicked on the "Custom" button and then clicked on the"Settings" button. Here I typed in the correct port name (which in my case was like LKxxxxxx where the x's are numerics). The IP address is already filed in. I checked the LPR button and made up a Queue Name and typed it into the Queue Name text box.
After clicking OK I tried printing to the printer and everything seemed to work correctly.

    Corleone
I have the same issue as I have a new Windows 7 machine that is hardwired to my Linksys WPS54G.  This is my main office PC and I have other computers throughout the house that are connected wirelessly to the WPS54G.  I've tried to create a new port for printing based on the posts from other users but it still won't work.  I've run the Linksys configuration and my PC sees the printer server.  Am I missing a step?
    Here is what I've done
    Go to ports
    Add new port
    Standard TCP/IP Port
Click new port (Wizard comes up)
Enter printer name and IP address ( I enter my IP address for the Print Server 192.168.1.x)- Port name is same as IP Address (does this matter?)
Go to custom settings and set for LPR with Queue name of LP1 (or should it be L1?)
    LPR Byte count box checked
    Click next and finish
Do I need to restart my computer?
    What am I missing
    Thank you

  • Printing through Linksys Wireless Print Server

    Ok.. Here is the question.
I have a Linksys Wireless Print Server (WPSM54G) which is connected to a Canon MX700. In windows this works great. However I cannot get OS X (10.5.2) to print to the printer.
The print server (with firmware update 1017) supports IPP, LPR, and some other printing protocols.
I have also pulled down the CUPS driver from Canon's site for the printer.
At this point I am stuck in getting this working.
Has anyone out there successfully gotten this wireless print server to work with OS X?
If so, what is the trick?
    Thanks.

I hope you're right about supporting the industry-standard protocols after a firmware update - because this print server didn't support those before...
With the industry-standard protocols IPP and LPD, a queue name is a part of the address to direct data to the port on the print server. Do you know the queue name (also called port name in some documents) for this print server, so you can enter it in print & fax prefs?

  • Configuring a printer through a wired printer server over a wireless network.

Hi,  I have a home wireless networks setup via a netgear wireless router. I have an old HP Laserjet 4 that is connected via a parallel printer port to a Netgear PS110 printer server. The printer server is connected via Ethernet to the wireless router. How do I configure my Macbook Pro (Mac OS X 10.7.5) to talk via the wireless router to the printer server, and to configure a driver that will work with the old HP. On all of my PCs (Windows 7/XP/Vista) I can see the device on the network and assign a printer driver to it. I am new to the Macbook world and would appreciate some guidance. How do I get the Mac to recognize the server on the network? How do I specify an HP specific driver for the printer. If I need to install some third party driver for this older printer, how do I do that?

    Which os do you have?
