Connecting printer to new fibre optic router

Hi. We have recently upgraded to fibre optic broadband and have a new router. Our HP 3055A printer will not now work. We have followed just about every procedure in the manual and on line, still getting nowhere. We cannot find a 'set up wizard' on the printer, getting nowhere fast!! Need clear and simple instructions, preferably from a user of the same printer who knows the menu headings. Thank you.

Keep pressing the same key over and over....

You sure your mac ethernet port works.
Give them a call.  Verify that they only support windows for coniguration of router.  Ask them about future support. If  they have heard of the ipad.  Ask if they plan on supporting a web browser interface. Ask about their sanity. My $5 router supports a web browser interface.
You could get a cheap wifi router with ethernet ports and with a web browser interface.  Connect you mac to you el cheap router.  Connect your el cheapo router to the eircom router.  Note: Apple routers have a propriety interface too and unless you have a new Mac best to avoid.
Could they switch you to a router that supports a web browser interface?
Get a friend with a windows laptop and ask to come over to get things working.
Internet support is standardized.  You mac should be able to access the internet through the router.
What is not standardized is how you configure your router.
Unbelievably, eircom_799  referenced by Neville Hillyer only supports windows for configuration.

  • Cannot connect to PPPoE?  fibre optic Internet in Japan

    Hi I live in Japan
All the manuals and helplines are in tricky Japanese and I can't find out why I can't connect to the Internet! Help!
I get a message saying "cannot connect to the PPPoE server". It was working fine for a few months but now suddenly I can't connect to Internet . Strange thing is the "hikari Tv" tuner (fibre optic) set top box is working fine and all the channels come via the Internet connected with a cable to the same router box. This makes me suspect it is a problem with the MacBook.
I would appreciate any help although I guess it is an unusual circumstance.

Thanks for your responses people. I have since figured out how to get to the Linksys web admin site, and I also have the wireless connection to my MB up and running.
The remaining problem is that my flatmates lovely old Windows XP laptop (wired only) cannot now connect. I am pretty sure it is not an issue with the router, but her Windows machine is all in German, and my German is ok, but dealing with techie stuff is another matter.
    Any ideas?

  • Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless won't connect to my new Airport Extreme router

I have owned my Officejet 8000 Wireless printer for about a year and had no problems with it.  However, my old wireless router wasn't fully Mac compatible so I couldn't secure it with a password.  I now need a secure network, so I bought an Apple Airport Extreme router in December.
I installed the router last night and it is working fine on my iMac, my PC laptop and my iPhone.
However, tonight I am trying to set up the Officejet Pro 8000 with no luck.  I've searched the posts here for 3 hours and am not finding the help I need.  Based on the other posts I've read, I am describing my situation below.
I am trying to set up the printer from my Intel iMac with Mac OS 10.6.4
I am trying to set up the printer with the HP Setup assistant that I just installed from the printer software.
On the first wizard screen it tells me that my device is not configured (I agree)
Then I ask it to configure for a wireless network.
When I get to the Network Selection page, both my network AND my guest network (which I let my neighbor use) are shown on the list with full signal strength.
When I click my network and then continue, the HP setup wizard freezes, and I have to force-quit it.
When I click my guest network and then continue, I get the message that my network is not within the reach.  (FYI, the printer is 10 feet from the router.)
I have tried powering on/off the printer, router, and computer at all different stages of the process with no luck.
    For my Airport:
My radio mode is set to the most compatible choice
MAC access control is not enabled
    Everything is WPA2 security
"Use wide channels" and "Create a closed network" are UN-checked
The channel is set to 11
I am happy to try the "Add network client" thing I saw on other posts, but I don't think I have a printer front panel where I can start the "WPS" (don't know what that is) process.   If I do, it's not obvious and not in the HP manual.
My ISP is Comcast (cable internet).
I would really, really appreciate some help!  Please let me know what information I forgot to include and I will be happy to provide it.
    Thank you!

First, you should be at 10.6.6, so please do Software Update (Apple menu) over and over until there are no more updates.
From where did you get the HP software for your printer? Was it labeled as being compatible with 10.6?
Finally, you will need to reset the printer so, let's do that:
Press and hold the Power button, press Network button, (on some models, press the Wireless button ), two times, press the
press the Cancel button three times, and release the Power button.

I would restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod on your computer and start over. It appears the iPod is associated with another account.  Any media that came with the iPod does not belong to you and di not transfer with the iPod hardware.

  • Windows can't print to Airport Express connected printer

installed new Airport Express replacing an old Linksys wireless router. Have a mix of Windoze and Mac clients that need to connect to shared (USB Connected) printer, supported off the AE router.
All Mac clients are able to see, connect to, and print to the USB attached MFC 440CN Brother printer.
The Windows devices cannot connect to, see, or utilize the same printer.
Any thoughts on what setting I might have Ito change in order to correct this problem?

  • Why call it "fibre-optic broadband"?

I've always wondered why BT would choose such a misleading term for Infinity.
Why on earth would they call it fibre-optic broadband? This implies that fibre comes to the customer's house, which is of course not true. The misleading effect becomes worse when they refer to the "fibre-optic router" (the Home Hub) - good luck trying to convince the BT engineer who comes to install the service that it is not a "fibre-optic router" but a bog standard Ethernet router. And of course same goes for the Openreach modem - it's a VDSL2 modem, nothing to do with fibre-optics.
Sure, fibres go up to the street cabinet, and they are welcome to mention it. But the way they market it just makes it misleading for the laypeople and for their own engineers too.
Further down the line, how are they going to market FTTH when it arrives? Fibre-optic broadband again? But we already have that
    Very weird indeed.
They could just market it for what it is, a VDSL2 service.

It's the ASA's fault for not stopping Virgin calling their horrible network fibre a few years ago.
Actual fibre will probably be called FIBRE POWERED BY LASER BEAMS
    Ahh that's a good point.
    The ASA is useless.
So if Virgin started with the misleading language, everybody can follow suit and it's fair game!

  • Samsung WiFi printer can't connect to new Quantum Gateway router?!

We recently replaced our 3-year-old router with the latest Quantum Gateway router and upgraded fios speed from 25/25 to 50/50.
Every device (PC, phones, tablets, and TV) was able to connect to the new network.  BUT, our Samsung Wifi printer (M283x seriers) cannot connect at all.  With the older router, we were able to access the printer thru Wifi network from two different PCs..
We did not relocate the router and we did not move the printer, so singal strength was not the issue.  We even uninstalled and then re-install printer driver to PC to set up the network again.  Tried every connecting option that Samsung had suggested, but everything failed.
We also tried to log in to Router Admin site to add this printer, didn't work.  WPS was turned on and we couldn't figure out why this new network doesn't add the printer. This router did not like our printer.
One funny thing was that if we turned OFF all the security settings, the router allowed this device to connect to WiFi.
Can anyone help?  Thanks a lot!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have a solution for you.  After upgrading to the Quantum Gateway last week, My Samsung 2835 printer had the same problem. It turns out that the printer doesn't play well with the Quantum Gateway when the Samsung "Wi-Fi Direct" function is enabled.  All you have to do is log in to the printer web page. Then, under Settings--> Network Settings--> Wi-Fi Direct... Turn Wi-Fi Direct off using the drop down menu.  Hit "Apply", then power cycle the printer. After this you can use WPS or manually configure the printer and it will connect right away.  Thank the Verizon technical guy J.W.  for figuring this one out by capturing the Wi-Fi traffic between the Gateway and printer.

  • Connected to router but no internet (fibre optics)

Hi, so I have recently switched to fibre optics and I have decided to reuse my Linksys E4200 that was previously used with a cable network. However, After installing the router using the disk provided I was unable to connect to the internet even though my computer was able to connect with the router. What can I do to solve this prob. I have tried restarting the modem to the factory settings and the same problem recurs.
P.S. The modem was installed to another router provided by my service provider.

When you said that 'even though my computer was able to connect with the router' did you mean your computer is able to connect to the wireless network of the router? Since you switched to fibre optics, the router might need to be reconfigured for it to work with your fibre optics connection. Do a hard reset on the router first - push and hold the reset button on the router for 30seconds then power it off for 10-15 seconds. You can then reconfigure the router by either using the setup cd or doing it manually. If the setup cd won't work, you can go ahead and proceed with reconfiguring it manually. You may follow the steps provided on this link: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=0ff4c94586a345d082828ec2161aaecf_3686.xml&pid=80&r.... With fibre optics connection, you may treat it as a cable connection.

Thanks for your response Dean!  There is no 'screen' on our printer so I'm a bit perplexed how to do what you have suggested.  On top of the printer, left hand side there are button's for:
    Power
    Cancel
    Scan {USB only}
    Copy Settings x 2 buttons
    Black
    Colour
    Wireless
Basically all we need to know is how to reconnect the Wireless to the new router.  The HP Software is working fine with the Ethernet connected MAC & we have no problems printing directly from that.  Once the printer is connected to the new router the other devices will be able to see it & connect.
    Thanks!

I recently replaced my dead airport router with a Netgear91-5g router and synced it successfully to my Lexmark Pro 915 printer and my computer; yet when I try to print wirelessly I get the message: "printer not connected; printer offline". Lexmark support verified that my printer was connected to the new router and the problem was with the computer's printer configuration and they could reconfigure it online if I paid for their "Premium Support" services ($119 for one year, 3 fixes). I declined, feeling sure that this is something I could do if I knew how. Could it be an incompatability issue with OS 10.8.3?

You saved me $$$ that I can ill afford on my fixed income. I was very unhappy with the "support" from Lexmark... what a rip off!  Thank you dwb!

  • Is the new AirPort Time Capsule compatible with a fibre optic modem?

Yes. All it needs is a modem (cable, fiber, satellite, DSL) with an Ethernet output (not USB).
