Connecting Remotely from a PC to a Mac

Can you tell me how to connect remotely from my home PC to my office's Mac server? I need to do it using the internet.

We need a lot more information to support you here.
What are you looking at accesing? What technology are you hoping to use?
Also since this is from MAC it may be limited support in these forums.

  • Connecting remotely from my MacBook Pro laptop to my imac desktop

Hi, I have an imac desktop computer with Leopard and a new MacBook Pro laptop with Lion.  I'm looking for a quick, easy and inexpensive way to remote from my laptop into my desktop.
I would like full access to the computer.  My internet provider is Verizon fios.
    thanks in advance, mnm

If all you want to do is remotely control your computer, only at home, you can do that with no additional software.
If you want to remote control your computer from any internet connection. Then you might want to consider LogMeIn or Slim. Both of these programs combine Dynamic DNS & Remote Access. Meaning you don't need to  configuring your firewall, or setup additional software.  Both tend to work in places that try to  block Remote Computer Access. (schools, companies, government)

  • Cannot connect remotely from another Mac

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro from a reseller which was on display because it was the very last one in stock. Because of that fact it came with the store's user settings, usernames, etc. I changed all the settings (at least I think I did) and installed all my software without any complications but just recently I tried sharing my MB Pro screen on my wife's iMac and OS X Lion does not recognize my user name and password.
I tried sharing my wife's iMac's screen on my MB Pro and that worked without problems. I also tested sharing my old MB Pro's screen on her iMac and it worked properly! I don't know what the issue is and I'm afraid I'll have to install Lion on my new MB Pro from scratch. I mean, I don't want to go through the hassle of installing all my software, transfering my files, etc. Please help!
    Thanks!!

I'm gonna give iChat a try and will let you know of my results. Thanks.
By WiFi Band do you mean "are they on the samen network"? Because if so, yes they are on the same network. I'm going to try creating a new user or logging in as Guest to see what results I get and will also let you know.
    Thanks again!

  • An unknown error occurred while using remote from iPhone to iTunes on Mac

I have STF for this answer, but am probably using the wrong words.  I have an iPhone 3Gs with a remote app on it.  I have several things going on.
I have a mini-mac running iTunes 10.4.  This computer runs both my music for the house as well as my Apple TV.  When I use the Remote App lately for playing and controling music, and I tap on a song within an album, I get this error.  "An unknown error occurred.  Please check your library and try again".  I am having miserable luck (basically no luck) finding or playing the music in my iTunes.
Then an error pops up after this.  "Remote can't connect to your iTunes library.  Check your network settings and try again."
Recently (about 5-6 days ago), my Network Gateway crashed.  This was a Linux box running Gateway software. (ClarkConnect).  Since the disk was hosed, I replaced it with a fairly new (8-10 month old) Apple Airport Extreme (version 7.5.2).  I have set this up to port forward and dispense DHCP within my house and wireless network.  Is it possible that something needs to be set additionally on this to allow remote connections to iTunes from my iPhone.  I should also say that my iPad does this just fine using the same Remote App.

I am getting this error whilst attempting to move NEF (Nikon RAW files) either between folders on the same hard-drive or between hard-drives (which are incorporated into my Lightroom catalogue).
Whenever I receive this error, a strange (locked) file appears in the directory/folder to which I intended to move the file and on examining this file in the terminal I can see that it contains the following error message: "cannot execute binary file...logout". The filename of this strange file is usually very random such as 470F00FF-9FBC-4517-84BF-26E52251B2B9-449-0000020C6A4DD5FD
I do not have any problems with missing sidecars and always select "save metadata to files" before attempting to move the files...can anyone figure this out?

  • Can't connect remotely to a PC from my Mac

I'm trying to connect remotely to my computer at work which is a PC. I've downloaded the "remote desktop connection for mac" and put in the correct information. I know I've entered in the correct information because I've been able to connect to the computer but only if I'm at work and using their wireless. I haven't been able to connect using my wireless or any other. I get a message saying it could not connect to my computer at work. My co-workers have no problem connecting remotely from home, but with their PC's.

Thanks for your help. I realize it's a microsoft program. I posted the problem in a different forum and someone suggested this forum. In the office, we all have our own computers so it could be a problem with my computer at work. I've followed the instructions for enabling remote access on my work computer and it clearly works since I was able to log in remotely from my laptop but on our office wireless. I considered that it may be a problem with my router. I've looked through my router settings but nothing worked. As for settings on my mac, my firewall is currently off. Not sure where to go from here, I'm assuming it must be a problem with my security settings. Just can't seem to figure out which settings to change. At the office, we operate off the server, could that have something to do with it?

  • Remoting from PC to iMac

Has anyone tried NTR Connect to remote from a PC to their Mac? They have a free version that looks like it may work.
    Thank you in advance.

Guessing.  Perhaps, the Lion VNC server does not like to play with your WIndows VNC client.  It has been known to happen.
Check your Windows VNC client configuration, and make sure it is using 24-bit color.  That is to say, it is not downgrading the colors to save on network bandwidth.  My experience with the Mac OS X VNC server is that it does not like being told to use fewer colors.
You could try a different WIndows VNC client.  UltraVNC, RealVNC, etc...
You could experiment using a different VNC server, such as Vine Server (the server is free for personal use).
    Vine Server (aka OSXvnc)
    <http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11283/vine-server-%26-viewer>
If you do try the Vine Server, you should turn off Mac OS X Screen Sharing (and Remote Management), as the Mac OS X VNC server and the Vine Server VNC server will conflict on trying control port 5900 (the VNC port).  You only want one VNC server controlling port 5900.
You could switch from using a VNC connection method and use TeamViewer.com instead (free for personal use).  It is rather good at connecting across the internet, uses encrypted connections, and there are WIndows and Mac versions.
LogMeIn.com also offers a cross platform screen sharing product (free for personal use).  And since the Windows side uses Direct-X on Windows, it is very responsive.
You could replace your Windows system with a Mac and then both Macs would play nice together :-)

  • Connecting remotely to mac from xp

    Hi all,
I am going to maybe ask a dumb question, but with which software do you connect remotely to your mac from a Windows machine?
Like remote desktop from the mac to Windows?
    thanks

Just install any generic VNC client on your windows machine, and a VNC server on your mac.

I converted from a PC to a Mac Mini.  I have my PC documents backed up on a DVD disk.  I have an external DVD drive connected to the Mac Mini.  I want to open these documents up from the DVD storage and save them to the Mac, BUT....when I put the DVD disk in the Mac is NOT reading it!

    Hi Joe,
Thanks for your quick response.  I should add....it worked before.  When I previously inserted the two DVDs into this remote drive, and I went into finder, I could click on the "remote device" line and see all my saved documents (excel, word, etc) on the DVD and open them on the Mac.  Now I cannot see them, when I try to open them on the Mac, nothing happens, nothing is displayed.  I just re-tested the remote DVD drive with a CD and, no problem, it opened up the CD via iTunes and I cold play the CD.  SO......I know the remote DVD drive (it's an LG by the way) is fine, it's something to do with some settings on my mini mac, especially where I could open it previously.  I do not remember changing any settings since then.
When I go into system preferences and click on CD/DVD it gives me options of how to open up a music CD (default is iTunes), a DVD (default is iMovie), etc.  The problem is my DVD is all miscellaneious files/documents.  I just want to be able to see them in the finder.  I also tried to open them via microsoft word, from the remote disk and again, it could not open the drive, even though some of the documents were microsoft word documents.  Again, I was able to open them previously and the DVD is not corrupted in any way.
    Any additional advice?
    Thank you!

  • I need to connect to my work PC remotely from my macbook. I think I need the citrix software. But which version and what is the procedure?

I need to connect to my work PC remotely from my macbook. I think I need the citrix software. But which version and what is the procedure?

Probably don't need citrix software. Is you computer in the office on LAN? Also, is the office computer setup for remote access? If it's windows then its going to be running Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) natively. If it is in fact RDP that your windows machine at work is using then you need to download RDC for mac. I use it to connect to my work computer using RDP (don't tell the "Info Tech" dude at my office) and if your not too tech savvy I would suggest trying GOTOMYPC. It's alot easier to setup. But if you have experience in setting up remote access and your Windows office machine is connected through LAN and your IT TECH has allowed port forwarding then you should be just fine with RDP and it's free!!! But are you logging onto your actual computer at work or logging into the "SERVER" through your work machine... believe me it's two completely different things.
    Basically, you'll need:
    1. Physichal IP address of work computer. (If office computer is on WIFI this won't work) use IPCONFIG commands in command prompt
    2. Port forwarding needs to be enabled by your IT Tech
    3. Remote Desktop settings will need to be enabled on the office computer
    4. Download RDC for mac (search google)
    5. Type the physical IP address into RDC and hit connect... type in credentials and your all done.
We need lots more details though... there are many ways to connect remotely and if your office already has a system in place for remote access then any details would be helpful in determining which method will suit you best. If it's citrix just have your IT dude set it up. If you think you need citrix then good luck....

  • Trying connect my itunes remote from my iphone and when it gives me the passcode there is no place to put it in

trying to connect my itunes remote from my iphone 4 but when it gives me the passcose there is no place to put it. And when it is connected to my computer it won't as well

I did see this but it does not have a place to put in the passcode.
if i'm not mistaken, the instructions say
    Setting up Remote app
Remote app 2.0 or later uses Home Sharing for setup and control with iTunes 10.0.1 and/or Apple TV (2nd generation).
    iTunes (10.0.1 or later)
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes by going to Advanced > Turn on Home Sharing
Connect iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to a Wi-Fi network that is connected to the local network that your Mac or PC is also connected to.
Open the Remote app (software version 2.0 or later) on your mobile device.
Turn on Home Sharing in the Remote Settings screen. Make sure to sign into the same Home Sharing account you used to sign in to from iTunes on your computer.
where does it mention entering a passcode ?

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

I can see other discs such as music and stuff so I know I have installed it correctly but how come I can't see the blank disc that I need to burn?

You can't burn discs remotely, you can only read data discs remotely (i.e. you cannot play movie DVDs either).
Either copy the files to the remote computer or get an external drive.
