Connecting remotely to an airdisk mounted on a bridged AEBS(newest) through Verizon Fios?

Has anyone encountered a "dumbed down" step-by-step set of directions to be able to remotely access my airdisk that is attached to a bridged Airport Extreme (newest) through Verizon Fios?  I have seen directions all over the place, but they are VERY technical.  I can follow them generally, but often they contain a few steps that assume you know what they are talking about - and I don't.  I also keep seeing COMPLETELY different sets of directions.  At this point I am worried about messing things up by looking at so many different sets of directions.  I know that Fios' Actiontec wireless router hooked to a coax makes things far more complicated.  Can anyone provide (or link me to) step-by-step directions that explain where I am going at each step?  One of the things that confuses me the most is a reference to the Dyndns static IP address.  I understand what it is generally, and created an account.  But I am not really sure what I'm supposed to do on there that specifically helps me in my situation.
I know this has been discussed many times in the forums, but I have looked at everything I can find and am inevitably lost eventually.
Thanks!

There are at least three methods to access a shared AirPort Disk over the Internet from a Mac:
Prerequisite:
Install the AirPort Disk and verify that you can access it from the local network.
Method #1: Using Back to My Mac (BtMM)
Prerequisites:
iCloud Account
AEBSn or TC running 7.6.1+ firmware
AirPort Utility 6.0+
Mac running OS X 10.7.2+
A router with a publicly reachable IP address and supports either UPnP or NAT-PMP.
Setup:
Apple Support Article HT3486 - iCloud: Setting up and using Back to My Mac with an 802.11n-based AirPort  base station, or Time Capsule
Additional References:
Apple: Back to My Mac User's Guide
Take Control Books: Take Control of Back to My Mac
Method #2: Using a Global Domain Name
Prerequisites:
A DDNS Account
Dynamic Global Host Name
Setup:
Acquire a DDNS account and dynamic global host name. One DDNS-provider is DynDNS and will be assumed for the following steps.
AirPort Utility (v5.x) > Select the base station > Manual Setup >AirPort > Base Station tab > Edit ...
Use dynamic global hostname (checked)
Hostname: dyndns.com
User: <enter your DynDNS user account name>
Password: <enter your DynDNS user account password>
Click "Done."
AirPort Utility > Select the base station > Manual Setup > Disks > File Sharing tab > Share disks over the Internet with Bonjour (checked)
To access the AirPort Disk:
OS X: Finder > Go > Connect to Server > Server Address: <your DynDNS Global Host Name>
Method #3: Using Port Mapping
Prerequisites:
If the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) or Time Capsule (TC) is connected directly to the broadband Internet modem, verify that the modem is in bridge mode, i.e., if the modem provides NAT & DHCP services, disable them.
If the AEBSn or TC is downstream of another router or gateway device, configure that device for port mapping/forwarding to the AEBSn or TC. (Note: AFP requires that TCP port 548 be mapped.) Also, configure the AEBSn or TC to have a static Private IP address so that it will always be found at the same address.
Use CheckIP (or equivalent) to determine your router's current Public (WAN-side) IP address.
Setup:
Start the AirPort Utility > Select the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn,) and then, note the IP address shown.
Select Manual Setup.
Verify that Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address is selected on the Internet > Internet Connection tab.
Select Disks, and then, select File Sharing.
Verify that both the "Enable file sharing" and "Share disks over WAN" options are enabled.
Verify that Secure Shared Disks = With a disk password. (Recommended)
Verify that AirPort Disks Guest Access = Not allowed. (Recommended)
Select Advanced, and then, select the Port Mapping tab.
Click the plus sign to add a new port mapping.
For Service, select the "Personal File Sharing" option.
In the Public UDP Port(s) and Public TCP Port(s) boxes, type in a 4-digit port number (e.g., 8888) that you choose. In the Private IP Address box, type the internal IP address of your AEBSn that you wrote down in step 1. In the Private UDP Port(s) and Private TCP Port(s) boxes, type 548. Click Continue.
In the Description box, type a descriptive name like "AirPort Disk File Sharing," and then, click Done.
Click on Update.
To connect to the shared AirPort Disk from a remote location using a Mac:
From the Finder > Go > Connect to Server.
Enter the DynDNS-provided Domain Name or Public (WAN-side) IP address of the AEBSn, followed by a colon and the Public port number that you choose in step 11 of the previous procedure. For example: afp://www.mydyndnsdomain.com:8888 or afp://123.456.789.123:8888
Click Connect.
You should be prompted for your user name and password. The user name can be anything you like; the password should be the Disk password for the AEBSn that you created in step 6 previously.
Click Connect.

  • Connecting remote FoxPro dbf file using jdbc odbc bridge driver?

    Hi all,
I am new to this topic, (even I read some threads)
I need to access some FoxPro tables (dbf files) and select some data and save to an oracle table. what is the best method to do this?
If I use java as development tool. which other drivers or methods to use beside jdbc-odbc driver?
I read from this link but I didn't understand.
    http://java.sun.com/products/jdbc/faq.html#5
"5. How can I use the JDBC API to access a desktop database like Microsoft Access over the network?
Most desktop databases currently require a JDBC solution that uses ODBC underneath. This is because the vendors of these database products haven't implemented all-Java JDBC drivers.
The best approach is to use a commercial JDBC driver that supports ODBC and the database you want to use. See the JDBC drivers page for a list of available JDBC drivers.
The JDBC-ODBC bridge from Sun's Java Software does not provide network access to desktop databases by itself. The JDBC-ODBC bridge loads ODBC as a local DLL, and typical ODBC drivers for desktop databases like Access aren't networked. The JDBC-ODBC bridge can be used together with the RMI-JDBC bridge, however, to access a desktop database like Access over the net. This RMI-JDBC-ODBC solution is free.
    "

Another solution by using HXTT DBF, a commercial type 4 JDBC package: You should read Remote Access Questions section at http://www.hxtt.net/en/software/dbf/faq.html#remote .

  • Time capsule remote access with verizon Fios router

I got a new 5gen time capsule. I'm trying to remotely access some files I transferred into the TC. The TC is on bridge mode with my Verizon Fios router. Is there a way to access my files remotely if so how do I set up.

The Fios router should offer ddns service from several of the providers.
Typical ones are dyndns and noip
but there are a fair number of them.. just the client has to be included in the firmware of the router.
Static public IP is the best option by far, but most ISP will only offer it with their business plans which are so much more expensive that it is not worth it. Some cable services will not offer it at all as their plans are all domestic.
Anyway the info is a phone call away and see how much extra it costs if it is offered.
Otherwise check the router for what ddns services are supported and join one.. they are free to a few dollars a month for low use service.

  • HP Connected remote app for iPhone

I don't see the HP Connected Remote app on iTunes.  Does HP realize it is not there?

OK... so you bought a HP computer... what is the model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question.
Just so you understand... the "HP Connected Remote app" available on Apple iTunes is only for Apple iPhones. This app needs to installed if, and only if, you want to stream data from your HP computer to your iPhone. You don't download this application from iTunes to install it on your HP Computer.
There is also an Android version available on Google's Play Store for Android devices.
If your HP computer came with Windows 8, it should have come with "HP Connected Remote" already installed. If not, you should be able to download the software HERE.

HP Connected Remote App on iPhone 5- Just downloaded yesterday. The only issue is it prints a pdf just fine but not Word or Excel.  Format is lost. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I think the iPhone does not read Word or Excel properly therefore it sends down wrong format. Please send to the printer email address rather than use HP Remote app.
    Regards.

First, this is a forum of volunteers.  There is no "urgent" here.
"Urgent" means one of two things -
    1) people are dying, or
    2) you have a customer-facing, revenue-producing production system that is down.
(And to get some perspective on the second case, keep the first in mind.)
For the first, you call whatever civil emergency service seems appropriate.
For the second, you open an SR with Oracle - which requires a paid-up support contract. For *them* to consider your problem "urgent", you will need to demonstrate that your problem falls under item #2. I seriously doubt your problem fits that criteria.
You don't have a support contract?  Now you know the exact dollar figure that your company places on the data.
That said, you need to understand a few things about your specific problem,
First, port 1521 is only used by the listener to accept a connection request.  Once it gets that request (and finds that it is for a service (sid) that it knows about, it will fork a server process and tell the requesting client that it can communicate with that server process over some other port .. a randomly chosen port number in the "high" range.  It could be your vpn is blocking that other port, whereas your internal firewall is not.
But this is just an educated guess since I cannot find "can not connect remote oracle database over VPN" in any error message manual. If you had mentioned the VPN along with an actual oracle error message we could be much more precise in our diagnoses and recommendations.
    ---- edit 22 Sep
It occurred to me that I just assumed you were using the same client machine in both cases ... a laptop that you use both at work (local network) and home (vpn).  If that assumption is false, there are probably problems with your tns setup on the home (vpn) machine.
But again, it would be much easier to help if you gave us an actual error message.

  • Can't connect remotely to a PC from my Mac

I'm trying to connect remotely to my computer at work which is a PC. I've downloaded the "remote desktop connection for mac" and put in the correct information. I know I've entered in the correct information because I've been able to connect to the computer but only if I'm at work and using their wireless. I haven't been able to connect using my wireless or any other. I get a message saying it could not connect to my computer at work. My co-workers have no problem connecting remotely from home, but with their PC's.
    Message was edited by: Jenna948

Thanks for your help. I realize it's a microsoft program. I posted the problem in a different forum and someone suggested this forum. In the office, we all have our own computers so it could be a problem with my computer at work. I've followed the instructions for enabling remote access on my work computer and it clearly works since I was able to log in remotely from my laptop but on our office wireless. I considered that it may be a problem with my router. I've looked through my router settings but nothing worked. As for settings on my mac, my firewall is currently off. Not sure where to go from here, I'm assuming it must be a problem with my security settings. Just can't seem to figure out which settings to change. At the office, we operate off the server, could that have something to do with it?

Any Good ADVICE would be welcomed.

I already did what you advised - installing admin server on each machine. I tested throught connecting admin console, modifying ldap, mail config and adding users.
To say about running 'comm_dssetup.pl' script , if I didn't I could not even setup and configure mail server.
In a month, there is a chance to setup both mail and ldap servers on diferrent machines.
I am a little bit worry. What did I wrong?
    welcomed... any words of advice..

  • Connecting remotely from my MacBook Pro laptop to my imac desktop

Hi, I have an imac desktop computer with Leopard and a new MacBook Pro laptop with Lion.  I'm looking for a quick, easy and inexpensive way to remote from my laptop into my desktop.
I would like full access to the computer.  My internet provider is Verizon fios.
    thanks in advance, mnm

If all you want to do is remotely control your computer, only at home, you can do that with no additional software.
If you want to remote control your computer from any internet connection. Then you might want to consider LogMeIn or Slim. Both of these programs combine Dynamic DNS & Remote Access. Meaning you don't need to  configuring your firewall, or setup additional software.  Both tend to work in places that try to  block Remote Computer Access. (schools, companies, government)

Please search the forums before posting, as the topic of sharing files between Mac and Windows computers has been covered dozens of times. It can save you time in the future. Instructions are also already available on your Mac via it's built in Help files accessible from the Help menu. You can also see this article: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3020.html

  • Connecting remotely to mac from xp

    Hi all,
I am going to maybe ask a dumb question, but with which software do you connect remotely to your mac from a Windows machine?
Like remote desktop from the mac to Windows?
    thanks

Just install any generic VNC client on your windows machine, and a VNC server on your mac.

  • Can't connect remotely after updating to Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I've been connecting remotely (using SFTP) to my office computer with Fetch fine, My co-worker just updated the system software from OS 10.5 to OS 10.6, and now I cannot connect to the computer...any suggestions of what I should do? The only thing that changed that I can see is that with 10.5 I had to connect using port 222, and now I'm told I need to use port 22. Still can't connect though.
    Thanks for any input!

So you've got a Mac running 10.5 at home, and you're trying to connect to a Mac running 10.6 at work, and you can no longer connect to that 10.6 computer but your coworker can connect to that same computer? What kind of computer is the coworker using from home? If a Mac, what OS is she running at home? How is she connecting? (Terminal.app command line? GUI front-end interface program like Fetch? Or Fetch itself?) If she is using a GUI program, I think that some of them display to the user a command-line style of text that it is using to connect to the distant end (I know that ssh tunnel used to). It would be helpful to know precisely what command is being sent from her and from you. If you could post those (masking, obviously, the username and hostname or host IP address as "user@host"), that would, I think, be an immense help.
I do a lot of ssh and sftp to my home network from work and other itinerant locations using Terminal.app program. I type "ssh user@host" or "sftp user@host". That's why I'm asking if your coworker's sftp program actually displays the command sent. Both of these commands (ssh and sftp) can be loaded up with various optional switches to facilitate different or additional behaviors. For example, actually, I use
    "ssh -p22222 -L10025:localhost:25 -L10143:localhost:143 –L10548:localhost:548
–L15900:localhost:5900 user@host" so that I can tunnel a bunch of other services (AFP file transfer, remote screen sharing, and receive and send email through my own personal five-account IMAP mail server) all encrypted inside the ssh connection. Or "sftp –oPort=22222 user@host" for encrypted file transfer from the command line. It would be helpful to know what her sftp program is actually sending to the work computer.
Any possibility of a username or password change on the work computer? You made mention about a port switch from 222 to 22...did you make that corresponding change on your sftp program at home as well? Who told you that you had to make that change and why? Lastly, while I can't give any good reason at all as to why it would make any difference, but I see that Fetch is now at version 5.5.3 as of 16 Nov 2010. Are you using the latest and greatest?

  • Connect remote Oracle

I need to connect remote Oracle server for that how to configure the Oracle in network using Static IP and port 1521. Required proper steps. Thanks.

    Hi,
You can use oracle NET configuration Assistant for configuring this. It is simple and GUI based.
DBA's normally prefer to use Telnet/Putty (for unix/linux environment) or Remote desktop (for windows oracle servers)..to have better control over Remote DB servers...
    Thanks
