Connecting routers. ASA and 2921
Here is a link to the previous post to explain where we were. https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/4133793#4133793
OK..
I have an ASA 5510 and a 2921.
The ASA is used and vpn/firewall and and internet,
The 2921 is used for inter-vlan routing..
My primary scenario, take a look at the image . https://supportforums.cisco.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/4096848-15371310/router_net.gif
My data network is 10.20.60.0
My Voice network is 192.168.2.0
The problem; with this setup, I cannot get the 192.168.2.0 network to browse the web. And I cannot get to access my VOICE mail server unless I use a 192 address.
The solution:
Roger
so remember the plan was to remove the 2921 interface and use 10.10.10.2 on the inter with 10.20.60.2...
1) shutdown the 2921 interface on the ASA and remove the address from the config.
2) remove the cable from the inside interface of the ASA that i think still connects to a switch.
3) take the cable that is in the 2921 interface on the ASA and connect it to the inside interface of the ASA.
Now the 2921 router physical connection runs from gi0/2 on the router to the inside interface of the ASA.
4) remove the 10.20.60.2 address from the inside interface on the ASA and add the 10.10.10.2 address that was previously on the 2921 ASA interface.
5) these routes on the ASA need changing -
a) remove these -
no route 2921 10.20.30.0 255.255.254.0 10.10.10.1 1
no route 2921 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 10.10.10.1 1
b) add these
route inside 10.20.30.0 255.255.254.0 10.10.10.1 1
route inside 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 10.10.10.1 1
6) add this route to the 2921
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.10.10.2
That should do it. As i say you will need downtime but once done all internal vlans should route via the 2921 and the ASA should only be used for internet. The ASA NAT statements reference the inside interface so it should just work.
And Still no connection.. If you follow the thread post on top you will get a better Idea..
Basically I want to be able to get the 10.20.60.0 network and use the asa for vpn and internet while use the 2921 for routing.
Roger
Okay, i though it might be an issue with the cable ie. straight thru vs cross over.
When you tried to browse the web did you check that the interfaces on the 2921 and the ASA were both up ?
As long as the routes were adding ie, the default route on the 2921 to the ASA inside interface and routes on the ASA pointing back to the 2921 then it should have worked.
If it is not the cable then the only other things i can think of are -
1) the default gateway on the PCs is not set correctly but then the PC in different vlans would not be able to talk to each other.
In your diagram you say the gateway for the internet is now 10.10.10.2. But that is only on the router ie. the default route. The PCs should have their default gateways set to the respective subinterface IP on the 2921 - is this how you did it ?
2) some misconfiguration on your ASA.
In addition you say you cannot get to the voice server unless you use a 192.168.x.x address. What subnet is the voice server on ?
Did you manage to save the configs when you did the upgrade or are you back to where you were before without the configs ?

Log every connection to ASA and router
Hi
I have a Cisco ASA 5520 and a Cisco 3825 router in my network. I want to log every connection made to these devices. There are a few users who have different levels of access to these n/w devices. I want to log all these users and what they actually change and implement in the devices. Is this possible using a TACACS server or any other method pls. I also have read/ write access to these devices. Many thanksYou can do that also.
You can use auth-proxy (router) cut-through proxy (ASA) to have the user authenticate for connections that he is making and do ACS accounting. But I don't think you need to do that for all connections, only for the ones that require user interaction.
Let us know if that answers the question.

Vlan subinterface on ASA and connection to internet
Hi Everyone,
Need to understand the network here
Say we have ASA which has gi0/0 interface and we do subinterfaces of this and it has trunk connection to switch.
gi0/0.1 outside vlan 10
gi0/0.2 visitor vlan 20
gi0/0.3 wi fi vlan 30
say we have 2 dhcp pools for interface visitor and wi fi.
Say users on visitor dhcp pool has gateway of 192.168
say users on wi fi dhcp pool has gateway of 172.x.x.x
gi 0/0.1 has public ip address and it has default route to edge router.
ASA--------Switch 1------------switch2-------------edge eouter ---------ISP
Switch2 is learning about vlans 10,20,30.
But connection between switch2 and edge router carries only vlan40.
Need to understand how users on vlan 20 and 30 reach the edge router and access the internet as switch2 port connected to edge router carries only
vlan10 as allowed traffic on trunk link?
Thanks
MaheshHi julio,
Below is my understanding ---
Let me know if i am wrong anywhere---
The switch 1 and switch 2 have vlan 20,30 where user connect ther PC and access the internet.
Remember switch 1 and 2 does not have SVI vlan 20 and 30.So when user connect to access port vlan 20 or 30 on switch 1 or 2 PC gets IP address from DHCP pool defined on ASA.
and it has default gateway of ASA interface of gi0/0.2 or 0.3
When user need to access the internet traffic goes to ASA interface gi0/0.2 as thats default gateway for user PC.
Then ASA has default static route that points to the ASA Edge Router.
So traffic from say PC to switch 2 is untagged then from switch 2 to ASA it goes tagged due to trunking.
Then return traffic from ASA to edge router is
ASA to SW1 -----------trunk tagged.
Sw1 to sw2 ----trunk tagged
Sw2 to edge router tagged with vlan 10.
Edge router has 802.1q trunking for vlan 10
sw2 to edge router comes as tagged then edge router removes the vlan 10 tag.

Desktops dropping wired connection to e4200 and other Linksys routers
Hi,
On Friday, I lost all Internet connnecitivity on my Linksys e3000. After determining that my cable modem was connected and working correctly, I pulled the e3000 and put my old wrv54g router in place. Wireless worked, but all wired connections showed link but no other apparent connectivity. Neither of my desktops could get a DHCP lease.
At that point, I purchased and manually installed a new e4200 router. All worked fine. Both laptops connected via wireless and both desktops via my house LAN. Until this morning (Monday). Wireless is working just fine, but both wired computers show 100 Mbs connections on an unknown network with no DHCP. Checking status shows packets going out, but nothing coming in. Checking LAN status on the router shows that both ports are connected, but it does not appear to receive anything from either desktop. All was fine last night. Oh, the router is on 1.0.03 firmware.
I have tried about everything I can think of. Configurations both on the router and the desktops (one Windows XP, 64 bit and one Windows 7) and all seems fine. I have disabled and reenabled the network connectors, rebooted both the router and the computers, etc. Nothing seems to work.
I am out of ideas and desparate. Does anyone have any idesa.
Thanks,
MitchI actually solved the problem, after a long day of trying everything I could think of, and the issue was not the router. I did a chat session with a Linksys support rep and we figured out that the router was bad. I replaced it with a new one and still had the same problem.
Long story short, I have a weather unit that connects, via wire, to the Internet to retrieve weather forecasts. It is hooked up through a ethernet switch, along with my desktop. For whatever reason, it went flakey and took down everything that was on a wire, including my wife's desktop in another room, which was connected to the router through a hub. As soon as I pulled the power on the weather device, everything started working. When I put power back, everything still worked.
Not sure why, or how this happened, but I will take success any way I can get it.
In regards to the e3000 problem, when I was returing the original e4200 for replacement at Best Buy, the guy there said that they had seen the ethernet switch part of the e3000 units fail before. I had an e3000, which failed last Friday, which was why I purchased the e4200 to replace it. Of course, my e3000 failed completely, including wireless.

Connection dropped between ASA and router
Hi,
Last night Internet traffic was going from my 2811 router to the Internet via my ASA 5510 (as it should do and in accordance with my route-map policy) but, when I came in this morning, traffic wasn't going via my ASA as my route-map policy specified, it was going straight to the Internet via my Gateway of Last Resort (an SDSL router). When I did a ping between the ASA and the 2811 router, traffic started to be routed via the ASA again, as specified by the Route-Map policy. Does anyone know what caused this to happen?
Thanks,
JaimeEnsure your ACL configured properly in your device or may be you did any changes recently.

Connecting Two ASAs together via local interface
Hi
I have two cisco ASA routers & wish to connect them together so that traffic between is permitted with out going outside interface.
Two asa are located at in ONE office and two have separate internet connection (ISP) configured.
So here is what I did so far.
configure one of the interface on each ASA with some IP adddress.
ASA 1 ------- interface 0/6 10.1.1.1 (ASA X 1512)
ASA 2 --------- interface 0/5 10.2.2.2 (ASA 5055)
now connected a Ethernet cable to these inferface.
I was able to addd a route on asa 2.
route add interface0/5 10.1.1.0/24 10.2.2.2
but when I add route on ASA 1 I get the following error.
route add interface0/6 10.2.2.2/24 10.1.1.1
%invalid next hop address it belongs to one of our interface.Sorry if I was not clear
I have two separate ISPs connecting two two separate ASAs.. Two asa are now connecting separate LANs.
Now I want to communicate between LANs.
So I connected an ethernet cable bw ASAs and trying to configure the route.
But not able to establish
Here is the configuration of ASA where I am faceing problem, while trying to add route
route add voice-interface 10.1.1.1/24 255.255.255.0 10.2.2.2 1
I get error says

S-S VPN between ASA and ASR1001
Hello
we have 2 ASR routers at HQ connected to ISP and there are new remote sites that needs to be connected to HQ via site to site VPN. Each remote branch will have ASA, The outside IPs of both ASRs are in same subnet.
1. Is it possible to acheive redudancy in HQ side in this design ?
2. Can i create L2L tunnels to both ASRs ? If yes how can i make 1 tunnel active and other secondary ?

Here you have two individual gateways on the HQ and the ASA has two tunnel-groups fr both gateways but only one sequence in the crypto-map. The peer-statement has both HQ-IPs configured. -
Routing issue with ASA and UC540 phone system - at ASA???
Having an issue with routing from the PC at .242 to the CUE server at 10.1.10.1. The CUE server is built into the UC540 phone system. It is an internal piece of software that is used for voicemail and management. The UC540 is not only a call router, it is also an IOS router. It has it's own WAN connection as does the ASA.
Here are some facts:
1. Can ping the UC540's internal CUE server from the PC ( ping to 10.1.10.1 )
2. Can ping the UC540's VLAN 1 address from the PC ( ping to 10.1.10.1 )
3. The ASA is the default gateway for the PC.
4. I have a route inserted at the asa that is:
route 10.1.10.1 255.255.255.0 10.19.250.254 1
5. I have a nat statement that prevents NAT from occuring but I don't think this is necessary as the 10.1.10.0/24 network isn't otherwise defined on the ASA.
6. I cannot pull up a web page when I point the browser on the PC to the 10.1.10.1 address
7. I CAN pull up a web page on the PC when I create a static route on the PC iteslf :
route add 10.1.10.1 mask 255.255.255.0 10.19.250.254
Is is only with this route that I am able to get to the web GUI on the phone system.
8. The phone system has a loopback interface at 10.1.10.2 that serves as the gateway for the internal CUE server, the internal CUE server is at 10.1.10.1
9. The switch is a 2960 and has a trunk port to the phone system to allow for the voice vlan which is at 10.1.1.0/24, no issues with this vlan and phones are connecting to the system fine.
Since I can get the GUI to come up when I set a static route on the PC, then I would assume that the routing in the phone system with it's internal server is fine as it wouldn't work otherwise. Since I can successfully ping the CUE server from the PC, that would lead me to believe that the ASA's routing is setup correctly..... TCP traffic doesn't seem to get to/from the CUE server.
Here are the routing tables:
ASA:

Any help appreciated!!!
Thanks!Hello,
Where you able to solve this problem? It does sound like an issue with TCP state checking on the ASA. The Firewall needs to see both sides of the traffic but the return traffic is going from your UC540 direct to the PC. The firewall essentially kills the traffic.
I would recommend disabling TCP state checking on the ASA and see if it works. Otherwise, you will need to stub route the UC540 as a separate VLAN off the ASA which needs to route through the ASA to reach the PC.
Here is a info page on the TCP State Bypass:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/asa-5500-x-series-next-generation-firewalls/111986-asa-tcp-bypass-00.html

Not able to telnet or ssh to outside interface of ASA and Cisco Router
Dear All
Please help me with following question, I have set up testing lab, but still not work.
it is Hub and spoke site to site vpn case, connection between hub and spoke is metro-E, so we are using private ip for outside interface at each site.
Hub -- Juniper SRX
Spoke One - Cisco ASA with version 9.1(5)
spoke two - Cisco router with version 12.3
site to site vpn has been successful established. Customer would like to telnet/ssh to spoke's outside ip from Hub(using Hub's outside interface as source for telnet/ssh), or vise versa. Reason for setting up like this is they wants to be able to make configuration change even when site to site vpn is down. Sound like a easy job to do, I tried for a long time, search this forum and google too, but still not work.
Now I can successfully telnet/ssh to Hub SRX's outside interface from spoke (ASA has no telnet/ssh client, tested using Cisco router).
Anyone has ever done it before, please help to share your exp. Does Cisco ASA or router even support it?
When I tested it, of cause site to site vpn still up and running.
Thanks
YKHello YK,
On this case on the ASA, you should have the following:
CConfiguring Management Access Over a VPN Tunnel
If your VPN tunnel terminates on one interface, but you want to manage the ASA by accessing a different interface, you can identify that interface as a management-access interface. For example, if you enter the ASA from the outside interface, this feature lets you connect to the inside interface using ASDM, SSH, Telnet, or SNMP; or you can ping the inside interface when entering from the outside interface. Management access is available via the following VPN tunnel types: IPsec clients, IPsec LAN-to-LAN, and the AnyConnect SSL VPN client.
To specify an interface as a mangement-only interface, enter the following command:
hostname(config)# management access management_interface
where management_interface specifies the name of the management interface you want to access when entering the security appliance from another interface.
You can define only one management-access interface
Also make sure you have the pertinent configuration for SSH, telnet, ASDM and SNMP(if required), for a quick test you can enable on your lab Test:
SSH
- ssh 0 0 outside
- aaa authentication ssh console LOCAL
- Make sure you have a default RSA key, or create a new one either ways, with this command:
*crypto key generate rsa modulus 2048
Telnet
- telnet 0 0 outside
- aaa authentication telnet console LOCAL
Afterwards, if this works you can define the subnets that should be permitted.
On the router:
!--- Step 1: Configure the hostname if you have not previously done so.
hostname Router
!--- aaa new-model causes the local username and password on the router
!--- to be used in the absence of other AAA statements.
aaa new-model
username cisco password 0 cisco
!--- Step 2: Configure the router's DNS domain.
ip domain-name yourdomain.com
!--- Step 3: Generate an SSH key to be used with SSH.
crypto key generate rsa
ip ssh time-out 60
ip ssh authentication-retries 3
!--- Step 4: By default the vtys' transport is Telnet. In this case,
!--- Telnet and SSH is supported with transport input all
line vty 0 4
transport input All
*!--- Instead of aaa new-model, the login local command may be used.
no aaa new-model
line vty 0 4
login local
Let me know how it works out!

Site-to-site vpn with 2 asa and home router
I am trying to establish a site-to-site vpn between 2 ASAs and am able to get the tunnel to establish and can get connectivity from the remote end of the connection to the local side. However, traffic from the local side is not able to get to the remote end. We have 2 ASA 5505 establishing the tunnel, on the remote end there is a linksys home router forwarding all traffic to the ASA outside interface on a private subnet. Our layout is as follows.

However, traffic from the local side is not able to get to the remote end. We have 2 ASA 5505 establishing the tunnel, on the remote end there is a linksys home router forwarding all traffic to the ASA outside interface on a private subnet. Our layout is as follows.
Internal Network Local ASA ISP1 ISP2 Remote Router Remote ASA Remote Network

192.168.1.0/24 (local) -> 10.10.10.0/24 (remote) does not work

Can no longer connect to ASA 5505 (serial or ssh)
I have an ASA 5505 running software version 8.0(4) that I picked up a while back. I had just finished configuring it via the serial console. I confirmed that DHCP addresses we're being pushed out on the VLANs, made a couple of minor tweaks, and confirmed that I could ssh into the ASA on the appropriate VLAN. After that I issued a write to save the config and took the firewall downstairs to replace my cheap little router.
After hooking it up, I started checking my machines only to discover that none of the machines on any of the vlans were getting IP addresses. I assigned a static IP on the VLAN with management access but I still couldn't connect to it. A packet capture showed zero traffic coming from the ASA. I grabbed the ASA and hooked it back up via a serial console but now I can no longer connect to it. The power & status lights are on. Plugging in cables turns the link lights on in front and back and they flash indicating activity. When I unplug the ASA I see a single odd character show up in putty over the serial connection.
I'm out of ideas. Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks.Step three of the password recovery option says, "During the startup messages, press the Escape key when prompted to enter ROMMON," but that pre-supposes that I'm seeing some output on the serial console. I'm seeing nothing at all (until I turn off the ASA then I see a single odd character).
Despite not seeing the usual console output, I've tried hitting repeatedly Escape as indicated but I'm still not getting any output. I've even tried other baud rates.
Thank you for the suggestion. Other ideas? -
MS NLB with ASA and Static NAT from PUP to NLB IP
Hi all,
I am trying to get MS NLB up and running. It is almost all working. Below is my physical setup.
ASA 5510 > Cat 3750X >2x ESXi 5.1 Hosts > vSwitch > Windows 2012 NLB Guest VMs.
I have two VMs runing on two different ESXi hosts. They have two vNICs. One for managment and one for inside puplic subnet. The inside puplic subnet NICs are in the NLB cluster. The inside public subnet is NATed on the ASA to a outide public IP.
192.168.0.50 is the 1st VM
192.168.0.51 is the 2nd VM
192.168.0.52 is the cluster IP for heartbeat
192.168.0.53 is the cluster IP for NLB traffic.
0100.5e7f.0035 is the cluster MAC.
The NLB cluster is using MULTICAST
I have read the doumentation for both the ASA and CAT switch for adding a static ARP using the NLB IP and NLB MAC.
For the ASA I found
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa84/asdm64/configuration_guide/mode_fw.html#wp1226249
ASDM
Configuration > Device Management > Advanced > ARP > ARP Static Table
I was able to add my stic ARP just fine.
However, the next step was to enable ARP inspection.
Configuration > Device Management > Advanced > ARP > ARP Inspection
My ASDM does not list ARP Inspection, only has the ARP Static Table area. Not sure about this.
For the CAT Switch I found
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_configuration_example09186a0080a07203.shtml
I added the both the ARP and Static MAC. For the static MAC I used the VLAN ID of the inside public subnet and the interfaces connected to both ESXi hosts.
On the ASA I added a static NAT for my outside Public IP to my inside pupblic NLB IP and vise versa. I then added a DNS entry for our domain to point to the outside public IP. I also added it to the public servers section allowing all IP traffic testing puproses.
At any rate the MS NLB is working ok. I can ping both the Public IP and the Inside NLB IP just fine from the outside. (I can ping the inside NLB IP becuase I'm on a VPN with access to my inside subnets) The problem is when I go to access a webpade from my NLB servers using the DNS or the Public IP I get a "This Page Can't Be Displyed" messgae. Now while on the VPN if I use the same URL but insied use the NLB IP and not the Public IP it works fine.
So I think there is soemthing wrong with the NATing of the Public to NLB IP even tho I can ping it fine. Below is my ASA Config. I have bolded the parts of Interest.
Result of the command: "show run"

Any help would be great! I think the issue is in teh NAT as I am able to access NLB IP from the outside and could not do that before adding the Static ARP stuff.
Thanks,
ChrisAlso If I change to NAT from the public IP to the NLB IP to use either one of the phsyical IPs of the NLB cluster (192.168.0.50 or 51) it works fine when using the public IP. So it's definatly an issue when NATing the VIP of NLB cluster.

my ipad2 is unable to find wireless network(s). while at home I am able to connect my MacBook and iPhone to network but am unable to connect iPad. I have restarted the device multiple times and even reset the network and all settings but still no luck
Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
iPad: Issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3304
iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Design Recommendations 1941 and 2921 still good?
Hi All, I've been asked to make some design recommendations. The 1941 and 2921 would be a good fit for this customer. Anybody know if there are plans for these routers to go EOL anytime soon?
Thanks in advanceI'm installing many 19/29xx series routers and haven't heard anything from my rep about EOL. Even if it goes EOL you still have support for many years after that and a solid piece of equipment.

Telnet from Outside switch to DMZ switch connected to ASA.
Hi all,
I have switch b connected to ASA with fas0/40 under vlan 40.
ASA connection to this switch is under Vlan 3 which is DMZ.
OSPF is running between OSPF and DMZ switch.
I was trying to telnet from Outside interface switch to DMZ switch which goes through the ASA.
My question is is it possible from Outside Switch to ping the DMZ switch or telnet to it as connection has to pass by ASA ?
Thanks
MaheshHello Mahesh,
Yes, as I said on my previous post
access-list outside_in permit tcp host outside_switch_ip host dmz_switch_ip eq 23
access-group outside_in in interface outside
If you want to check if everything is properly setup for that connection to work across the ASA do the following:
packet-tracer input outside tcp outside_ip_switch 1025 dmz_switch_ip 23
