Connecting samples in Logic 8

I just rebuilt my system after my main drive crashed and upgraded to Snow Leopard, but I'm still running Logic8 at this point. I have samples on an external drive that are primarily AIF's that I have always been able to access with EXS. Ever since I upgraded and reinstalled Logic I can't connect to those samples. I have tried to do a spotlight search and created an alias of the samples and placed them in the "Sampler Instruments" folder but it still isn't linking.
I need to get this system up and running ASAP so any help would be great.

Crafting samples on Logic Pro

Hello!
Just bought Logic 7.2 and made the transition from PC Cakewalk/Wavelab -environments into Mac/Logic. Everything is going smoothly, except I'm having big problems in crafting samples on Logic. I'd like to edit samples (.wav, .aiff, etc.) using the great mono/stereo audio effects available in Logic, but for someone used to Wavelab, Logic's Sample Editor seems to be extremely short on options.
If anyone has the time to answer the following questions, I'd be very grateful.
- What is the best way of editing samples (or short audio files) on Logic that allows the most versatile use of Logic's audio capabilities, such as audio plugins? Neither the default multitrack display or the Sample Editor seem to be very effective for this purpose.
- In the Logic environment, how can short audio files be easily lengtened from their original saved form, or silence be added to them? Haven't been able to find this feature yet.
- If someone wishes to work his own samples, is some other program needed in addition to Logic (or am I just missing some great feature)?

1)If u wanna use pllug ins u can edit the waht u wanna in "Real Time" And bounce...
2) U can double click a region and that will open your sampling editor - there u can make all kinds a altereations - check it out
3) You can do very limited editing in the arrange window -

Double click the region to get to the sample editor - there you can stretch the audio or make it shortet with the pitch and time tool - check it out - I would read about the sample editor in the logic manual as u go by and do it
- If someone wishes to work his own samples, is some other program needed in addition to Logic (or am I just missing some great feature)?
I use Bias PEAK - it has alot of great features for creating your own samples

Why are there missing samples in Logic Express 9

There are missing samples in Logic Express 9. All the pop horn samples and some of the string samples as well as some others. How do I get them back?

That is a great suggestion. I DO have garageband installed also. When looking into the library there, I have a Sampler Instruments folder, in that is a few instuments (ie Grand Piano.exs, Hip Hop Kit.exs, Muted Electric Bass.exs, Rock Kit.exs, Steel String Acoustic.exs, Upright Jazz Bass.exs) and ANOTHER Sampler Instruments folder. And in that one, is ANOTHER Sampler Instruments folder, and that one is empty. Not sure if my screen grab will come through for you to see.
So there is not much sitting in the Garageband Samper Instruments at all. And the mysterious multiple Sampler Instruments folder train.

Problems with "Secure Thin JDBC Connection Sample"

I've tried to run the example code, "Secure Thin JDBC Connection
Sample", but I get "java.sql.SQLException: Oracle Error: ORA-
12645" when connecting to my server. Does anyone know what is
wrong? Without the security properties in the client it works,
so it it something with the security.

this jar has many example source codes. Just unzip it... or unjar it typing jar xvf SecureThinDriver.jar

I understand that your Logic Remote is not connecting. In this situation I suggest reading over the attached information and making sure that Logic Remote is set up correctly. I would also suggest trying to connect using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Trouble finding the sampler in logic 8???

Hello, I'm having trouble finding the esx24 sampler in logic 8. I see videos of people accessing it through the inspector menu on the left side of the screen under "inserts." I've looked several times through here and can't find it. I can't believe that I am already stumped. any help would be great

Sampling in Logic 8

New to Logic. Is it possible to create a sample in Logic (i.e from a sound CD-rom), then turn it into an Apple Loop. If not can someone give me a solution.
Also what is the Drag and Drop Sample Kit in Logic. Is that where I place my newly created samples to access then. If so, I how do I get them in there. Thanks

Of course you can sample (LOL). Just import Audio files from CD, mp3 or record something with mics or outboard gear. Logic comes with an onboard sampler (EXS), drag and drop works fine with that, you can also use a lot of 3rd party sampler plugs like NI Kontakt or whatever. Your Audio regions (cut up Audio files) can easily be turned into Apple loops if you want to access your sounds via the loop browser. It´s all very easy an intuitive so no worries...

How do i use a Multitimbral Sampler with Logic?

I purchased a third party multiTimbral soft sampler. I did this so i can have 16 tracks in the arrange window, each with it's own midi channel, for use with ONE instance of this softsampler. When i create 16 tracks set to Instrument #1, i need for each of these 16 tracks to have their own unique midi channel.
As it currently is, if i change the midi channel on one of these tracks, the midi channel changes for all of the tracks assigned to play Instrument #1. If it's not possible to have more than one channel for simultaneous use with instrument 1, then it's not possible to use any multi-timbral instruments. Surely this can't be. Logic is a professional product, for which many third party software vendors make synths and samplers. (many of these, such as the MachFive Sampler, are multitimbral)
PLEASE don't tell me that i should simply load another instance of the sampler for each desired channel! That would A) be a supreme waste of CPU, and B) it would only allow for 128 channels of midi to ever be used.
The reason i purchased a third party soft sampler was because i want to have a great deal of sampler and synth channels available. With a multitimbral sampler, I'm able to have 128 channels of sample programs with just 8 instances of the MachFive loaded. This would allow me to have many available instrument slots for use with the various Logic soft synths.
Is there any way to have 16 seperate tracks in the arrange window, all with different midi channels, and all set to play one Instrument?

1: select an instrument channel, go the parameter of the channel then change the midi channel to "ALL"
2: insert the Multitimbral sampler of your choice ( RMX, hypersonic or what ever) and load the sounds you want onto them
3: open environment, in the environment parameter it shows AUDIO click hold it and select ALL OBJECT, then go to view and untick "BY TEXT"
4: connect the GM DEVICE to the channel that has the Multitimbral Sampler on it'll ask Do you want to remove the channels port setting? click remove
thats it
Now go to the arrange window and you can use all the 16 midi channels to control one Multitimbral Sampler
that means midi channel 1 will control what ever sound is loaded in the first slot on the Multitimbral Sampler

Connecting PODxt to Logic Studio 8

I am having problems trying to connect my PODxt, with the latest firmware, via USB to Logic Pro 8. I read how to set it up as an aggragate device, which I did, but the sound is terrible. I know it isn't the PODxt because I can connect it to Reaper 3 via USB on my Mac and it sounds fine in that program. Are there any known issues or tips on how to do this successfully?

Yes, me too. But after a week of testing L8, I've taken the plunge as I already like it better, although I had planned to complete all existing projects in LP7 first.
1) Make extensive backups of everything, including all project assets, IRs, samples etc. which should all be in your existing project folders, before you install L8.
2) Open copies of your projects and save them immediately in L8. As you probably know, installing L8 leaves LP7 untouched, so you can always go back if disaster strikes. I did some reconfiguring of stuff (not that you have to) such as changing old bus objects to auxes etc. just to make it more L8-like, reworking screensets etc.
+I'm running Pro at full power with some songs and it still struggles at times. I'm using a Power Mac G5 dual 1.8ghz for the record....Just worried about how well Studio 8 will run on my machine compared to Pro 7? Will Studio 8 require a lot more CPU usage?+
Actually, I've found that in general projects run more smoothly. I've had some weighty projects that were puffing a bit in LP7 which run much better in L8. Other threads in this forum contradict this, so either I'm lucky or because I keep my production machine very clean I didn't get any problems.

New at logic nine express. Looking at the sample editor where it says I should be able to select part of a sample in the sample editor and move it . Option click does give me the correct icon but can't move the selection. On Macbookpro and logic express 9.1.5, os x 10.5.8

I think I got confused.. and that the instructions were talking about moving the selection, not the underlying wave form... I think I get it now, thanks to me for answering myself

RSA1 - Source system connection : Change in logical system name

Dear friends,
Can you please tell me how can i change the logical system name for a source system connection.
There is no change in source system & source system connection check works well, just we have decided that from current logical system name SID_100 should be changed to SIDCLNT100.
Can i do this by running BDLS in BW for RSBASIDOC table from SID_100 to SIDCLNT100 ?

let me describe u in a bit more details.
Currently, we have a working source system connection to a system SID_CLT. there is no change in source system.
now, can i change this system connection technical name from SID_CLT to SIDCLNT*** ..

Why can't I load some samples into Logic's EXS24??

Hi everyone,
I am having an issue with loading some of my samples into the EXS24. I am using OSX 10.3.9 and Logic 7.1.0. When I try to load a sample, I can see that it recognizes it, yet when I click on it the sample doesn't load. It doesn't even try to load, It just shows blank dots in the loading window. Can anyone help me with this? I have to have this to work for my job. Thanks so much for the input!

When you say you are loading a sample, I presume you are not trying to load a sample using the EXS24?
If you are, you should read the EXS24 manual, because that is not how it works - the EXS24 directly loads "sampler instrument" files only, and it's those that contain references to all the sample files.
So you open the EXS editor, create a new instrument, load your samples into that, save it, and then select your instrument in the EXS24. Long-winded, but that's how it works.
Or did you mean something else?

Trouble using sound effect samples in Logic 7.2.3

I'm using a Mac book Pro (10.4.11) and I've got these samples of sound effects (aiff format) that I want to triger with the Ultrabeat plug in. the built in samples that come with Logic (in the loop browser) work just fine. but when I try to load a these other samples, they come in correpted. they just make a white noise sound when I trigger them. Can any one please help.

Hi. As far as I know the aiff files are not in 5.1 surround format. But I don't even know how to check that. Anyway I had success loading them into the EXS plug in sampler and I thought all was good but the next day they were corrupted. I put other samples in in their place and again they were working. But when I shut down and rebooted, they were again corrupted. Any Ideas??

Rtmp not connecting, sample video not streaming

I am developing an application in Flash that runs locally and it uses FMS 4.01, locally. I have been using adobe FMS 4.01 for months with no problem. Today I cannot connect to my server and I cannot even play the sample video on the Flash Media Server Start Screen. The sample video for the http plays after I changed the permissions for flash, but rtmp does not play. I have reinstalled the server; 3.5, 4.0 and 4.01, none of them will connect to rtmp. I receive this error on the flash media server start screen that says "the connection timed out". How do I fix this?please help!

Can you just check if your firewall is turned on and blocking 1935? Also are you trying to play RTMP using Start Screen from same machine where FMS is installed or from any other machine?

Migrating EXS Samples. Logic 6.4 - 8

Hello.
I'm transferring my work from and old g4 powerbook to a new intel Macbook Pro.
I have a lot of unfinished projects on the Powerbook. What is the procedure for transferring my EXS library across?
If I copy the Sampler Instruments folder over, and the samples themselves, will Logic 8 find them? In fact I have no idea where Logic 8 stores samples for the EXS?
Just wondering if there is anything I need to know/watch out for...

Turns out I spoke too soon.
The EXS sampler cannot load the samples I have moved over. It says they are 'not found'. For example I have a drum breaks exs instrument that contains maybe 80 drum loops. When the sampler opens it says it can't find the files, but the name of them seems to have been changed. Random letters and numbers have been added. For example there is a drum break entitled
AfricanMusic_Machine_-Tropical.wav
But Logic says it can't find AfricanMusicMachineAEE36.wav
When I check the sample's name outside of logic it looks ok again.
Some of the samples load. But very few. If I go to the instrument editor the samples' names are present but they have an explanation mark next to them.
If I click on the exclamation mark and choose 'Open Audio File', I choose the correct file from my sample library but Logic says 'File name too long'.
Any help here would be much appreciated. Is there something I'm missing?
My move from a pb 1.5 to a MBP 2.4 has been totally plagued with problems (not just in Logic) and I'm beginning to wish I'd stayed with a G4 setup. The Trilogy and Atmosphere wrappers are pathetic (I am using them extensively in many an unfinished project)and I can't get Stylus to transfer over in my tracks either. The tracks are bare skeleton versions of what they were, nothing seems to be loading right.
It's all very frustrating.
