Connecting Samsung 913n monitor to ibook -screen resolution?

Hi,
I've bought a new monitor - Samsung 913n - and want to connect it to my ibook. No joy so far!
I have the adaptor and there seems to be a link between them, as the monitor says I've lost the signal when I unplug the adaptor.
One possibility seems to be that there is not an option for the correct screen resolution when I go to the Display preferences. The monitor is 1280 x 1024, but I only have three options which are all smaller than this.
I have reinstalled my system software but no luck.
Any help appreciated!

Hi, Nikki. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You are stuck with the screen resolution of the iBook. There is no way to increase it. Sorry.

  • IBook screen resolution

Does anyone know what the highest screen resolution is while using an external display on an iBook g4. I am wanting a larger monitor, at least a 20", but if the resolution is limited to 1024x768, then it is pointless. Does anyone know if the iBook supports a higher resolution on external displays?

The iBook's firmware only allows the use of mirroring on an external display, which limits the maximum resolution on it to 1024x768 unless a firmware hack is applied, which isn't supported by Apple and may void the iBook's warranty.

  • ILife '04 without 1024x768 iBook screen resolution

    Hi all,
I recently upgraded my desktop system to the iMac G5, and with that being said, I have some of my purchased software for the eMac left over.
So after restoring said eMac to factory defaults (thus returning me to a zero count status for single-use software licensing agreements), I thought about installing iLife '04 onto my iBook. (366 MHz graphite, no FireWire - see specs below)
(installation from the CD, not the DVD)
Only problem is that the original clamshells (tangerine, blueberry, graphite) only support a resolution of up to 800x600.
Has anyone installed iLife '04 on a clamshell iBook having this lower-than-minimum resolution? If so, what are the implications of such?
(not counting the elimination of the iDVD and GarageBand apps)
    Just wondering - thanks!
    Steve
    eMac G4 800 MHz, 512 MB RAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iBook G3 366 MHz (clamshell), 576 MB RAM, Mac OS X 10.3.9

There is a workaround: When you click on the iLife install package (only for selecting, not starting the application)
And then go to the finder menu and look for "show original" (I don't know the exact words because I have a german OS X)
Then you will get a bunch of install packages for iDVD, iMovie, Garageband, iPhoto.
iPhoto will work for sure, but at first startup it complains about the screen resolution, you can ignore it.
You can install even Garageband, it plays simple songs with a few instruments flawlessly. I've tested it out with a USB keyboard as well.
There is a iMovie 3 hack for running this programm too:

    Hello
I connected my Samsung SyncMaster 920n 19'' to my iBook G4 but i am not able to set it's native resolution which is 1280 x 1024
I read in iBook G4 User's Guide this: "Note: Your iBook G4 doesn't support external display resolutions above 1024x768"
But everything looks so huge on my monitor with this kind of resolution.. And i was wondering if there is anything that i could do to set it's native resolution.. any workarounds.. or hacks.. ?

no, there are no workarounds. you have to use it at supported resolution or get another monitor.

  • Max resolution connecting to dell monitor

i am dumb so please pretend i'm your mom trying to set this up and asking the Q .  i have a 3 yr old dell 24" (DVI/VGA) monitor and i'd like to connect my 13" MBP to it.  i bought the 'mini displayport to DVI adapter' for my mbp and have connected to my monitor, but the max resolution i can achieve under displays is 1280 x 800 to the monitor, so beats the point of using the larger monitor.  and the res isn't too crisp either.
am i hosed?  if i buy a new monitor to connect to my mbp, can i get finer resolution (i.e. at least 1920x1200)?
or is the 13" mbp limited to 1280 x 800????

    System Preferences > Displays
    Mirrored or not?
When mirrored, you use a compromise between what the built-in screen wants and what the external screen wants. If you want to Mirror, you have hit your limit.
If you uncheck Mirrored, you get Extended Desktop, and the | Arrange | pane is added.
Using the arrange pane, you drag the little screens to represent how your real screens are on the bench. The mouse can move across the boundary between the screens and onto the other screen.
Choose the Display pane. You get a separate resolution setting FOR each screen ON each screen.

  • W530 running Windows 7: can't use optimal resolution on Samsung S27A850DS monitor

    Hello,
I use a Lenovo W530 laptop with the NVIDIA Quadro K1000M video
card running Windows 7. Recently, I got a Samsung S27A850DS monitor
with an optimal resolution of 2560 x 1440. However, the best
resolution for this monitor on my system is listed as 1920 x 1080.
Can someone explain this to me? The NVIDIA Quadro K1000M specs
    (e.g. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-Quadro-K1000M.76894.0.html)
assert that resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 are supported. So where
is the problem? Is it a W530 limitation, or a Windows 7 limitation?

I just bought a new Samsung 22" monitor. The text resolution is really bad. After talking to Samsung, I found that the needed resolution is higher then what my Mini-Mac shows available. Can this be fixed or do I return the monitor?

    Let's try again...

    You mean the Thunderbolt port.

Have you tried holding Option and click the Scaled resolutions button in System prefs > Displays?

  • Change of boot screen resolution after projector connecting

    Hi Guys,
My boot screen's resolution was changed to 800 x 600 when connected to a projector and the screen resolution was returned to the previous set resolution at 1680 x 1050.
However, the resolution of my dock icon was messed up (this can be configured manuall) BUT my boot screen (with the grey apple before getting to the login page) is now at 800 x 600
Can anyone advise how I can set it back to 1680 x 1050 and how to prevent this from happening the next time I plug my MacBook Pro into the projector again?
    Thousand thanks for your help.
    Cheers!

Fixed: reconnected the external display and disconnected it properly.

    Hi,
When you set your monitor to a screen resolution that it won't support, the screen will go black for a few seconds while the monitor reverts back to the original resolution.
Regarding screen resolution, we may follow the below two articles to change it:
    Change your screen resolution
Getting the best display on your monitor
    Follow the steps below:
    1. Open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button, clicking
Control Panel, and then, under Appearance and Personalization, clicking Adjust screen resolution.
2.Click the drop-down list next to Resolution. Check for the resolution marked (recommended). This is your LCD monitor's native resolution—usually the highest resolution your monitor can support.
And if the monitor is LCD monitor, The monitor's  manufacturer or reseller should also be able to tell you the native resolution for your LCD monitor.  Or we may check the monitor's manual to adjust.

  • New 2012 Mac mini having screen resolution problem when I connect to either 27" LG or 22" Hannspree monitor. Tried mini display port to VGA/HDMI and HDMI to DVI-D cables... all same isse

New 2012 Mac mini having issues in connecting to third party Monitors. Connected my mac mini to a 27" LG monitor. Text looks blurred. Tried connecting to the monitor using 3 options. 1) mini port to HDMI, then HDMI cable to LG monitor. 2) Mini port to VGA, then VGA cable to monitor 3) HDMI port on mini mac to DVI-D cable then DVI to DVI cable... In all cases text is not clear. Anyone has similar issues with latest mini mac. The monitor works fine when I connect to a windows 7 Samsung laptop. Any input is highly appreciated. Thanks in Advance

Why do you use always 2 cables? There's a lot that can go wrong.
    1.) Hardware:
    - Use only one cable, best an HDMI->HDMI cable. It doesn't need to be an expensive one, they've proven to be no worse than those "esoteric", expensive ones.
    - Set the monitor to the HDMI input.
    - The modes you are listing are only "picture modes" changing color/brightness/contrast settings, not resolution or the likes, so pick the one you like best later, or enter your own settings under Custom.
    2.) OS X:
    - Usually the Mac detects the screen itself and chooses the best settings, so by default you need to do nothing than make a proper hardware connection to get a decent image.
    - However, there have been issues with new Mac Minis and particularly their HDMI ports. But reportedly they have been fixed with a software update. So, launch the App Store and check under Updates if there is one for you to install. If so, do it; otherwise you should be good to go.
    - If you require, go to System Preferences -> Displays. In the Dispaly tab, by default, "Best for display" should be selected, and that is typically true. If you want, select "Scaled" and 1920x1080, plus a frequency from the list (where higher is usually better, but just pick the one that works best for you). If you can't see a change to the better, you best go back to "Best for display".
    - If you are not happy with the colors on your screen, you'll find eventually more than one choice in the Color tab, though your particular screen should be in the list and its Display Profile should get you the best result. (Double-check picture modes on your display: if you're far off there, you won't make it much better with the Mac's settings).

  • External screen resolution "defaults" to low-rez (T510, docked; Samsung SyncMaster 730b monitor)

I have a T510 Thinkpad with docking station (Windows XP) with Samsung SyncMaster 730b monitor. Every time I start up, it defaults to low resolution and I need to manually increase the screen resolution. Is there a way to make the default setting for the external monitor is high-resolution?
    Thanks!

    hey ct-user,
it is hard to say if this is caused by the external monitor or by the docking station.
try having the the external monitor connected to the T510 and see if it "saves" the resolution that was previously set.
also, test the external monitor on a different laptop and see if the same issue occurs.

  • Improving screen image on Samsung Syncmaster Monitor connected to MBP

I struggled to remove the fuzziness from the picture displayed on my Samsung Syncmaster XL2270HD Monitor from my 2010 MacBook Pro. They are connected using an iWires DVI to HDMI cable. Then I found a contribution from ROLNAS2 from 2 years ago and a variant of the suggested solution works well for me:
On the Samsung monitor control hit MENU and then select:
Input > Edit Name > HDMI and set the detail to HDMI and DVI PC.
    Thanks ROLNAS2.

    Just a thought,
Come to think of it, I've seen this issue when a display isn't getting enough power from the graphics card. - Does your Apple display work if as a single monitor attached to the Mac Pro?
If the screen is black, it could also mean that there is no supported resolution for the monitor provided by your video card, this could also explain why your Mac still registers a connected display. - Have you tried different resolutions and/or bit rates.
    Regards,
    Peter.

The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.

  • Wide Screen TV as Monitor - How Determine Best Resolution?

I've been using a 42" Samsung TV as a monotor for a mac mini for years.  This week I replaced that mac mini with the newest model & now connect the mac to the TV with a HDMI cable (instead of the PC port on the back of the television).  Interestingly, in launching iPhoto on this new mac I get the message that the "current screen resolution is not optimal for iPhoto".
Does anyone have a suggestion as to an easy way to determine the "optimal" (or good/best) resolution?  Is there any rule of thumb or is it just trial & error?
    Thanks in advance.

I think I'd do the trial and error approach.  Change the size in the System/Displays preference pane and then change the aspect ratio in the monitor to see what gives you the best results. My digital TV offers 4:3, Zoom, Full and something else I don't remember.  If you have something like that try each aspect ratio with each monitor .
I don't know if you'll have the same options in the System/Displays preference pane but I have
which is for an iMac. If you know what the pixel size of the monitor is start with that. It should be listed in its manual. Otherwise start with the biggest size and work your way down.
