i have the samsung sds-v4040 and I'm not able to connect to the internet through the airport extreme 7.7.3
i been trying but I'm not really computer friendly with MAC address or dtp or tcp i seen them but don't know what to do. can some one help me plug the info in the correct places? thank you

To successfully access an IP camera on the local network from the Internet, the following basics need to be taken care of:
Install the camera(s) and verify that you can access them from the local network.
Configure port mapping/forwarding on your router. Typically, IP cameras require at least two ports: 1) A web port for administering the camera; Usually TCP port 80, and 2) A streaming port to broadcast the camera video feed; Usually UDP port 9000. Note: You should check with your camera's documentation for the exact ports required.
If the camera is attached to a computer, you will need to configure the computer's firewall to open the same ports as in step 2 above.
Verify that your modem is in bridge mode, i.e., if the modem provides NAT & DHCP services, turn them off.
Test your network. Use CheckIP to determine your router's current WAN-side (public) IP address. Then, from a remote location (not from a computer on the local network), use the DynDNS Open Port Tool to verify that the required ports are open. Success is an "Open" response from the Tool.

I've got a small office network where files are served off a Mac mini, and iMacs connected via 802.11n wifi to the wired mini via Time Capsule. I have a spare AEBS (b/g) that I was thinking of setting it up for iPhone and guest access of internet. To keep the mini and iMacs secure, the set-up would be:
Internet -> AirPort Extreme (b/g) -> Time Capsule -> Mac mini and iMacs
The only issue I'm contemplating - the slower Ethernet ports on the Extreme - which I don't think is a problem for connecting to the Internet. Is there anything else I should be concerned about regarding network performance?

That would work. The Ethernet ports on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) is faster than your internet connection so you shouldn't have a problem.

Hey just wanted to know what is the reason i would connect my external hardrive to the extreme and what is the difference between LAN and WAN ehternet. I know one is local and other is wide but can someone explain in simpler terms.

Connecting a hard drive to the Airport Extreme makes it available to be shared across all the computers on your network.
WAN (Wide Area Network) is your connection to the internet
LAN (Local Area Network) is your internal (or local) ethernet connections (computers, printers, etc...)

Apple does not provide a compatibility list for USB connected devices, so no one can tell you whether things will work until you try it out yourself.
If both the Iomega drive and HP printer work when you connect them individually to the AirPort Extreme, then your chances using a powered hub are quite good....assuming that the USB hub is functioning correctly.
In other words, make sure that both devices are working when you try them individually connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme. If they don't work that way, they won't work with a powered hub either.

We recently switched ISPs. To connect to the new ISP our Airport Extreme has to be in bridge mode. Now our Nintendo Wii won't connect to the Airport. Is it an issue with bridge mode that is causing this?

Hello and thanks for the reply. I gave this a try, turned off Airport on one of the computers and tried the Wii again. Still no connection. I should say that we're also running an old G4 (wired) off the Airport as well, with no problems. I've tried many things to make the Wii to work, including power cycling the Airport, turning off the security settings in the Airport, resetting the Airport to it's default and redoing the network, resetting the network setting on the Wii (several times), moved the Airport closer to the Wii, all with no luck. The Wii "sees" the Airport but won't connect to it. I'm at a loss for anything else to try, so any help is appreciated.

Yes, the AE can be simply put in bridge mode so it will become an AP and set the wireless to create a wireless network.. you can then use same name and same security as linksys.. this is called roaming network.

Although the apple instructions have two apple routers, any two wireless routers will work the same way.

I cannot get past Gateway PING when connecting Samsung BD player to Internet via Airport Extreme?

I have now been trying for 2 days to get my Samsung 3d BD Player to connect to my wireless iinternet (via VIVID WIRELSS) in Australia. I am using an Airport Extreme Base Station WIRED to the BD Player and wirelessly connecting to the WiFi. The Network Test shows Ok for MAC and IP, Gatewy, DNS etc... but wont get to the Internet test because it stalls at Gateway Ping. I have tried all of the various setup changes - Auto, manual, changing the adresses but noting works. Sometimes it takes longer to fail the Gateway Ping (when I put in the WAN settings as opposed to the LAN settings but none work.I know I have the correct info in my WiFi setup with the password and security etc... Is this just an incompatibility between Samsung and Apple? It worked fine with my Pioneer player and also my Panasonic Player? Any help gratefully accepted!!!

I assume that these results are coming from the Samsung BD player's network administration interface ... correct?
When configured to join another wireless network, the Extreme is also reconfigured as a bridge. That means all IP address information must come from the upstream router that is providing DHCP server services ... so the Samsung is actually testing the upstream router's connectivity to the Internet, not the Extreme's.
I am venturing to guess that if you plug the BD player directly into the upstream router, it would not have any issues connecting. So, this would confirm my earlier statement that Ethernet ports on the Extreme are not enabled.
I would further guess that if you connected the Extreme directly to the upstream router by Ethernet and configure it for both Wireless Mode = Create an wireless network and Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode), that the BD player would get the proper IP addresses it needs for Internet connectivity.

Sure, if you made a more secure password, that is quite possible. Minimum recommendation is the following:
1. use WPA
2. use a password with no word from ANY dictionary
3. use a password that is a combination of letters (upper and lowercase), numbers and special characters
4. use a password at least 12 characters long.

HP Laserjet USB Connection Does Not Work with Gigabit Airport Extreme

I have set up my Airport Extreme Gigabit edition. It works well for wireless internet. BUT, I connected my HP Laserjet 1300 via a working USB cable, and it doesn't print properly at all. This Laserjet uses the HP Universal Drivers in Vista, which should work with the Extreme if anything should. I have set up and located the printer in Bonjour as instructed.
With the PCL6 driver, I get one page that prints out portions of the test page text, but with most of it missing, and then a second page saying:
PCL XL error
Subsystem: KERNEL
Error: UnsupportedProtocol
Operator: 0x0
Position: 0
The PCL5 driver prints out "a" page, but the text comes out as solid black lines instead.
I have tried turning the printer on and off, the router on and off, and deleting the printer and re-creating it in Bonjour, as suggested by Apple's technical support document. Nothing works. I have downloaded the latest Windows software and router firmware for this product, both of which were released recently. Same result. I also tried connecting my laptop via a Gigabit port instead of wirelessly to see if that would help. Nope.
I have seen a few postings in other forums (not here) saying that the Airport Express (Gigabit) firmware has problems with HP printers connected via USB, which seems hard to believe given their ubiquity. If that is the case, I'd appreciate a straight answer from somebody on when it will be fixed. Some have suggested just using Ethernet, but I purchased this product (and therefore paid extra) for the USB print server, and expect to get that working.

you should set the port number that the camera uses to something other than port 80. You'd then use AirPort Utility (the "Advanced" panel, "Port Mapping" tab) to map that TCP port and the camera's "private IP address" to a public TCP port. (I'm not sure what to use for "Service". TROUBLE CONNECTING XBOX 360 WIRELESSLY TO MAC AIRPORT EXTREME NETWORK

Hi, and thanks for looking. Here are the facts in a nutshell.
1. Xbox 360, set up for wireless connection.
2. Wireless network, all apple equipment. Main Base station is the new Airport Extreme, hooked to a Cable Modem (Toshiba), with transmission via Comcast Internet.
3. All wireless connections between Mac computers, and Dell PC's working flawlessly, including multiple printers.
4.Cannot connect to XBox 360 because when attempting to wireless network not recognized. When editing Wireless connection, by manually typing in the Network Name, and the WPA password, still does not work.
5. Incidentally, I have had this XBox connected before,until I purchased the new Airport Extreme Station (the rectangular one). What has changed? For one thing I added WPA security, and secondly, I got rid of a Netgear Router that I had been using for better distance, at the end of the Airport extreme chain. So the equipment is slightly different, and the security is definately different.
So please, someone tell me what I must do to have the XBox connect to a Mac AEx Network, that has WPA security, and then, how do I get XBox to recognize a computer.
Prior to this, without security, and with a netgear router as an ethernetted remote to an Airport Extreme, the XBox could get on the network, and see a Dell computer for programming. Now it can't do any of that. Sorry to be so long winded.
I've tried everything including turning the firewall off the Dell. I even tried putting the Netgear back on the network by ethernet, which then allowed the 360 to log on wirelessly, but, still could not see the Dell, even with the firewall off. Thank you

You should really search for your question in the Airport forum found here <http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=140>. The forum you've posted in is dedicated to Macintosh and Windows compatibility issues. While XBox 360 and Windows are both Microsoft products they are not the same thing.
I think you'll find that many folks with the new Airport Extreme base stations are having compatibility issues with many devices when trying to use any security. The best workarounds are to either hide the SSID and restrict access using the network hardware address while using no wireless security, plug the XBox 360 directly into the station with an Ethernet cable or not use the new Airport base station altogether.

please help me i have a cabin in the mountains that is off the grid... and i use solar power... i have my internet access via wifi and an antenna... it goes to a d-link router in my electric room then from there via a cat 5 cable to a apple airport extreme base station... and i would like to plug the camera into the base station via a cat 5 cable....
i am trying to set up a network camera to via a airport extreme base station.... the tech support on the camera end (airlink 101 skyIP cam500 model aicn500) said to enable port 80 and to assign a IP address (which i have)... apple support has been unable to help me after almost 1 hour with tech support.... here is what the camera tech support page suggests....
You will now need to forward the Second HTTP Port through your router to the IP address of the camera. If you have an AirLink101 router, we have instructions in our knowledge base for port forwarding. If you have a router from another company, you will need to contact them for instructions on port forwarding.
When accessing the camera from a remote location you will need to open a browser and type in the internet IP address of your network (not the ip address of the camera) and the port into a web browser. The address and port will need to be typed in like this:
http://x.x.x.x:port
x.x.x.x = Internet IP address
port = Second HTTP Port
Here is an example of what it would look like: http://123.123.123.123:81

i can not thank you enough for taking the time time to help me!!! i really appreciate it.... i have done the set up with the d link router and am now trying to access the camera from the web.... but i am having trouble logging in and finding it? i am not sure what ip address to enter into my web browser? i think that i need to add the ip addresss folllowed by a forward slash and then the port # 80.... but what ip address should i add? in the device info part of the d link router i have found a number of ip address's... but none of them seem to work? what am i doing wrong? or not doing? my apple base station is set up in the bridge mode with a password to protect it...
