Connecting Serial Device to iMac

I have a serial device that I would like to connect to my iMac but of course, iMac don't have serial ports. So I purchased a serial to USB cable device but my iMac will not recognize it. The particular device is a Garmin GPS and I am using it w/Parallel and Windows XP Pro. Help!

Connection with serial device (SPP)

I try to connect with a bluetooth serial device (a robot, no standard device) which is working with every PC but not from my MAC. I can connect to the device (I use ZTerm) and send one character, but not more. If I send more, those characters are not send until I quit and restart ZTerm. Then (nearly) all characters are sent. I can get all characters sent by the device. It seems a problem of flushing the buffers at some level of the drivers. Any experience or idea?

Help connecting device to imac

hey guys,
need to know if/how i can connect a device to the imac.
its a programming device with a VGA outlet. it can be connected to screens and projectors with ease just as you would with a pc.
but for work purposes it has to be connected to an imac.
my cilent would also like the ability to easily switch between the imac and this programming device.
i have read online that youill need the thunderbolt to VGA adaptor.
but have not seen any replies saying that it has worked ?

What do the manufacturer of the device recommend?

Can only see iphone in itunes on imac. can't see iphone in devices on imac.

I could previously see my iphone in my 'devices' on my imac. When I connect it now, it is only visible in 'itunes'. I now have no control over what I want copied from my imac to my iphone. Don't understand why the phone does not appear in devices when I connect it to the imac.

O.K. I've spent more time trying to figure this out----hours, actually, wasted.
I have found a solution that just now worked for me.
I connected my iPhone 5 to a 'Lightning to 30-pin Adapter.'
Then, I connected this configuration to a known 30-pin USB cable that works fine with my iPhone 3GS and iPad [Second generation].
Immediately, my iMac, as well as iTunes, recognized my iPhone 5.
Synchronization between my iPhone 5 and iTunes went off "without a hitch."
I don't know if this combination will work for me more than this one time. I'll try again after I've added more music to iTunes, tomorrow.
Maybe this solution will work for others having this same software/hardware configuration.

Old ipod nano - when i connect it to my imac - error message

I have an old iPod Nano - when i connect it to my iMac, I get an error message that says I can't have more than 5 computers authorized with my account - My account only shows 4, but that's really beside the point since this iMac is already authorized and I sync other devices from it. Any suggestions? It won't let me add any new content to this iPod.

Connecting Macbook to new iMac

I recently bought the 24 inch iMac because my Macbook (purchased April 2006) is slow, unresponsive and has a broken optical drive. I have all of my recent photographs on my Macbook and would like to transfer them to my new iMac using a brand new Firewire 800 9-6 pin cable. My macbook is in working condition and this should work.. however my Macbook in FW mode isn't showing up on my iMac! Help!

That should be working. Try restarting the iMac with the MacBook connected in target mode. Also, if you run Disk Utility, does the MacBook's drive appear in the sidebar?
If you have never used that new cable for anything else, it is possible the cable is bad. It is also possible one of the FireWire ports is faulty. Do you have any FireWire 400 device? If so, use that cable to connect it to the iMac's FireWire 800 port, as a test. That will test the iMac's port and the cable. Also try connecting it to the MacBook with a normal cable, to make sure that port is working.
You can also connect the two Macs using +File Sharing+ over the network. Using an Ethernet cable to directly connect the two Macs will be faster than using wireless (as long as you use a Cat-5e or better cable). Just turn on +File Sharing+ in System Preferences Sharing pane on the MacBook. On the iMac, the MacBook should appear in the sidebar of any Finder window. Select it and click on the +Connect As+ button over to the right. Provide a username and password for an user account (on the MacBook).

Problem with IPad , did an update as requested now it does nothing, but display a graphic that shows I should connect to ITunes . So I connect it to my IMac run ITunes nothing happens. Try restore pop up says not eligible for restore.

Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
   1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
       other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
   2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
       until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
              * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
                Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
                release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
       device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
       let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
       charge, and then start with step 2 again.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
       When this screen appears you can release the Home button:

Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

I was wondering if I can connect an old mac mini to an imac so I can use the mac mini as an aditional hard drive to store all my music and pictures.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If the Mac mini and iMac have got FireWire or Thunderbolt (probably, FireWire 800), just buy a FireWire cable and start the Mac mini holding the T key while your Mac is starting. Doing this, your Mac mini's hard drive will show up as an external drive in the iMac, so you can store data in it. You may want to format the hard drive first.
This isn't the best way. If you aren't going to use the Mac mini, you can take the hard disk out of it, buy an enclosure, install the hard drive in it and connect it to your iMac. Then, format the hard drive > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Finally, open Finder and you will see the hard drive in the Finder sidebar, under "Devices"

Connecting a turntable to iMac

Can I use connect a turntable to my Mac directly in order to use Audio Recorder? I have the Monster Cable lead used to connect iPod to my hifi, this cable could connect the turntable to iMac.

I wondered if the USB connection for my Sennheiser headphones would serve the same purpose. There is a spearate 'phones and mic jack connector which connects to the Mac via USB.
The Sennheiser mic level input will probably be designed for a higher input level than the turntable cartridge will provide, Switchblade, and it will almost certainly not have the desired equialization curve needed for use with a turntable.
Finyl Vinyl requires one of the Griffin input devices to be used (iMic or PowerWave), so you couldn't use it with the Sennheiser input anyway, I'm afraid.
As I understand it the Finyl Vinyl / iMic combination achieves the necessary signal boost using the computer to conduct the amplification and equalisation. This seems likely to result in significant amplification of any "noise" in the computer's own inputs. If the amplification occurs before this point I would expect this to matter less. I have an iMic myself, but I must confess I haven't tried using it for this purpose, preferring to use my amp's phono amp. I'll give it a go today if I get a chance and see how the sound compares.

You can, but you'll need to expand your cabling a bit.
You'll need to get an intermediate ethernet hub, switch, or router. That device sits alone, with the Mac, your printer, and your modem/LAN plugged into it.
If you are already using a router, either separate or in combination with the modem (many modems have a built-in router), then you just need a hub or switch.
I use an ethernet switch (10/100/1000) to let both my Macs (a 2010 iMac and an elderly G4 DA model) use my HP4000n printer and my modem. The ethernet switch is a passive device, meaning there's no setup nor instructing it required - it's truly plug-and-play. All four items (two Macs, printer, and modem) are plugged into it via ethernet; both Macs have full-time independent access to the printer and the modem.

Intellisync (Failed to connect to device.

I have recently experienced a problem with my 8330 Blackberry which I have been using for almost a year. The problem occurred about three days ago with my connecting the device to the desk top by ubs, and receiving an Intellisync error window with this statement. (Failed to connect to the device. Please make sure that the device is properly connected and try again.) I went onto the Blackberry site, and downloaded the new Desktop Manager software, (Version 5.0.1.28 (Nov 11, 2009) and the new Device Manager software (5,0.0.11) BBDevMgr 4.1.0.12), (RIM USB Driver 4.1.0.4), and (RIM USB Serial Driver 2.2.0.3). Upon install, I open the Desktop Manager and set up to sychronize, pressed the sychronize button and received my first error. I have tried everything suggested to get the units to sync all to no avail. I can receive calls, and send texts, and cannot get my emails. I would appreciate any assistance anyone can give. I am going out of town Monday on business and need to be able to receive my emails.

1) Make sure that the version of DTM that you are using is compatible with your desktop PIM version:

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these.
3) Start over completely:
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:

3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:

5) Install DTM to your PC

Information Retrieval on Connected USB devices (without storage)

I know how to retrieve list of USB devices (with storage via PowerShell) that connected to my Notebook.
Am not sure how to retrieve a list of connected USB devices (without storage) such as wireless mouse, keyboard etc. I need their information such as brand, model and serial number.

USB Serial Devices - Description and Information

Hello folks, I am trying to detect which kind of USB/Serial device is connected through Labview: through the VISA Find Resources i can list all the GPIB/ASRL devices connected and then through the Interfice Type i can detect the Serial/USB devices (interface number 4) and through the Interface Description I can get the name (COM7 for example).
Now my point is that if i look on the "Device Manager" in Windows i can see the "Manufacturer Name" and the "Device Description from BUS" of the Serial Device connected. Is there a way to get those information inside Labview?
