Connecting Sony Vaio v

I am using Airport Extreme to connect multiple devices ( iMac, mac mini x2 , macbook , macbook pro, ipod touch, iphone, ps3 x2, wii, apple tv ) all with no problems.
However, the only windows device i try to connect doesn't work. It's a fairly new ( < 1yr ) Sony Vaio running Vista.
The Vaio is able to connect to other networks with netgear/belkin wireless routers.... just seems to be a problem with the Airport Extreme
Any thoughts?

  • Hi, I just got an Apple Thunderbolt Display. How can I connect it to my sony vaio pc? Thanks

Hi, I just got an Apple Thunderbolt Display. How can I connect it to my sony vaio pc? At Apple Store they gave me a Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter, but monitor doesnt display any image. Thanks for your help!

no, your computer needs to have thunderbolt technology. does it?
if not, no adapter can make a thunderbolt display work on a non-thunderbolt computer.
someone was likely confused since miniDP will FIT into a TB socket but is only compatible one way, ie a mDP display can work on a TB machine, but a TB display cannot work on a mDP machine

  • How to connect I pad with lap top Sony Vaio

    Hello,
I have an Ipad and I would like to connect it with my Lap top Sony Vaio with using the bluetooth system. And the problem that I have, my computer ask me to insert the disk and I have not this disk.
How I can do with out this disk.
My computer is with Windows Vista
    Thanks for your answer

To answer your original question, you can connect your Sony Vaio with your iPad using the cable that came with your iPad. Bluetooth connectivity is not supported. You move photos and other documents from your laptop to your iPad with iTunes which can be obtained from the Apple website for free. The iPad is not like another computer or a disk that you can connect to your laptops.

  • Sony vaio does not connect

    Hello.
I have a Sony Vaio laptop. My main computer is an iMac. Everything I have wirelessly connects to my airport extreme, except the Vaio. I can see my wireless network, but can't connect.

Its no help to you but I've got the same issue.  Apple have been really helpful and checked out airport and it's running fine BUT it looks like this is a vaio issue.  The smart network or whatever they call it seems to conflict.  I've tried new drivers but not getting anywhere.  Let's hops someone has a fix. I'm fairly good on pcs etc and I've tried to disable the smart network etc and it's just not connecting to the Internet.   I've got 2 iPads, iPhones, iPods apple tv and it works seamlessly.  Just not the Vaio.  Might need to bin windows altogether now after the years of hassle it's caused me.  Good luck sorting your problem out.

i cant connect my i phone 4 to my sony vaio laptop via bluetooth  i am  having problem can any one help me how can i connect my i phone 4 to my laptop using bluetooth i tried to paired but it just doesnt work help me pls!!

Unless you're trying to tether your phone to your computer or create a personal hotspot, it won't pair with your computer by bluetooth. File transfer by bluetooth is not supported. So, you can quit trying unless you're trying to tether.

  • Sony Vaio not recognising Wifi/Internet connections since System Refresh ... Help!

I'm using Windows 8.1 on a Sony Vaio SVE1512C6EW.  It was running really slow, so I did a System Refresh and deleted a few programmes. Now it is not recognising Wifi/Internet connections and Audio doesn't work.  I don't know if I deleted the driver or it was the refresh.  Please help!

    Hi nickisheps,
Thank you for visiting Sony Community!
Here in Sony Support USA for Vaio, we do not recommend System Refresh right away since your issue was slow performance. You could uninstall programs and check for viruses/malicious programs first, running Vaio or Windows update, etc. You are right about drivers. There is a possibility that some drivers and software are not properly installed or was deleted after the refresh. You may try this first: Go to Device manger -> Network adapter -> select the name of the adapter -> right click and select Uninstall (DO NOT DELETE). Restart the laptop. The default driver will be reinstalled. You may do the same process in Audio, just select Sound, video and game controllers. Check again if you the will connect to the internet.
If none of these work then you need to visit Sony's website (based on your location or from where you purchased the unit) and download the needed drivers.
Since your Vaio SVE1512C6EW is not a U.S. model and we have limited information about your unit and we do not have the drivers and software that support your computer. We kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.
    Hope these help.
    Best regards,
    Vincent

I have a Sony VAIO CD-ROM Drive Model PCGA-CD5 (PCG-CIX) and a 3.5" Sony floppy disk drive model PCGA-UFD1 that I would like to use with my MacBook Pro, any ideas as to how or where I can get an adapter?

    That's a proprietary interface.
Odds are there is no adapter. Ask Sony.

  • TS3212 cant download itunes on sony vaio windows 8

    I need help please
I purchased a sony vaio a few weeks ago with windows 8 now i cant seem to get my itunes to either download or to work
I initially installed itunes before i activated my norton internet security and i was able to get itunes to download and play music no bother but then when i plugged my iPhone 5 in to sync to the new computer it ended up having a few problems
    1. it either said that it couldnt sync due to an error code 0xE8004002
    2. it said it couldnt read my iphone and to restore to factory settings
on the first problem i just ejected the iphone and did a reboot and i reboot the computer also but then when i connected again i then got the second error
so i backed everything up on icloud that i could and then  tried to restore to factory settings but then another error came up saying that due to an unknown error i could not restore the iphone
i looked at forums and i saw that i should just manually restore from the iphone itself which i did but then icloud lost have my notes that i had but itunes recognised the phone and sync did start but then half way through said that songs could not be snyc'd due to an error and then all my music was greyed out and i couldnt play it
Then i had to begin again with all the errors of not connecting
i then read more forums and was advised to delete itunes then reinstall again.  I uninstalled but now i cant get it to reinstall again.  Internet explorer keeps saying download interupted when i get to 99% and it will not go any further and google chrome says pc doesnt allow download check internet settings
please help because im about going barmy with this
    thanks

got it to download thanks very much

  • Sony Vaio FZ Series - LCD brightness

    Hi All,
I have recently bought a Sony VAIO FZ11S and I've successfully installed Archlinux:
    Fully working:
    - CPU Scaling (using cpudyn)
    - Multimedia keys (mute, volume up/down, play/stop, etc. using Xmodmap)
    - Wireless (using iwl3945. Can't connect with AP with hidden SSID)
    - Nvidia GeForce 8400M (using latest nvidia drivers with stock arch kernel 2.6.23)
    - Audio (after adding 'options snd-hda-intel model=vaio' to /etc/modprobe.conf. MIC not tested yet)
    Untested:
    - bluetooth
    - SD/MS card reader
    - Video camera
    NOT WORKING:
    - LCD brightness adjustment: FN+F5/F6 are detected correctly by acpid but nothing happens. I'm using the module sony-laptop included with kernel 2.6. Folder /sys/class/backlight is empty. I can use nvidia-settings to change COLOR BRIGHTNESS but this is NOT a good solution IMHO. I'd like to get the same capabilities I get running Windows Vista. (change LCD backlight).
I've read somewhere it is a problem common to all laptop with the same NVIDIA videocard. Does anyone know a fix for this? I've also tried with  latest nvidia beta drivers with no success.
    - Hibernate/suspend. I tried with pm-tools to suspend/hibernate laptop but nothing is working correctly. I didn't investigate further. Has anyone got a quick solution for this?

I recently bought a Sony FZ180, almost identical stats and hardware.
I tried all the same suggestions, which worked fine on my old laptop, but will not for this one. If anyone can think of another method to control the backlight I would be grateful.
Also, I tested the SD slot, the TI driver recognizes when a card is inserted, but no devices or mount-points are created.
    tifm_core: MMC/SD card detected in socket 0:1
tifm0 : demand removing card from socket 0:1
(The second line is from me removing the card, not a defective slot.)
Everything else works great, though. Arch boots to a full KDE desktop much, much faster than my cleaned-up vista partition. I'm really happy overall.

  • Sony VAIO laptop not recognizing video ipod

I just got a new Sony VAIO laptop. I plugged in my ipod, and it recognized it as an ipod and everything. I went to go install it, and the stupid windows hardware installation wizard couldn't install it. I have tried numerous times and it still can't. Now when I plug my ipod in, neither My Computer nor itunes recognizes it. The latest ipod updater doesn't recognize it either. However, the ipod itself has either the "charging" or "charged" icon on it. It charges like normal when connected to the laptop. I have yet to see it say "do not disconnect" when I connect it to the laptop I am using USB to connect the ipod. I have tried all of this stuff too and it didn't fix the problem: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301343

After three days and countless hours that I will never get back, I finally figured out how to get the computer to recognize the ipod and work like it is supposed to. If you go to the device manager and it is showing up with a yellow question mark next to it, open it up and if it is giving you a code 28, try this.
Go to this thread, it helped me and maybe it will help you.

  • Sony Vaio Laptop Won't Turn On

I have a Sony Vaio laptop that turns off every time I turn it on. I have taken it in for repairs and they can't that nothing is wrong with it and they can turn it on. They even run diagnostics and have opened it up and can't find a problem. I did update the computer from Windows 7 to 8 but the problem was happening even before I updated it. At first, it would turn off then I would be able to immediately turn it back on, then it would turn off and I would have to wait a few minutes and it could turn it back on. Now, it won't be anything. I know it does work because it was on when I got it back from the repair shop. Any  help would be greatly appreciated. I am getting very frustrated!

Check if the DC jack is loose or damaged within the computer.
Remove media from the CD/DVD drive.
Disconnect all external devices that are connected to the computer.
Connect the AC adapter into a known working AC outlet and to the DC jack on the notebook, and then attempt to turn on the computer normally.
    NOTES:
Verify the correct Sony AC adapter is being used, and not a third-party replacement AC adapter.
Connect the AC adapter directly to a wall outlet and not to a surge protector or extension cord.
Some AC adapters have a POWER LED indicator and can be confirmed as receiving power by ensuring the LED is lit. If the AC adapter is damaged, or the LED is not lit or continuously flickers when plugged into a working AC outlet, the adapter must be replaced.
Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the Power Switch for 5 seconds. Once that has been done, connect the AC power adapter again, and then attempt to turn on the computer normally without the battery installed.
NOTE: If the computer turns on without the battery, the battery is either completely drained or defective. Put the battery back in, reconnect the AC adapter and charge the battery for 24 hours. If the issue still occurs, that battery is the problem and will need to be replaced.
Remove any additional Random Access Memory (RAM) that may have been added to the computer.
NOTE: If removing the added RAM memory resolves the issue, check the computer specifications to ensure the memory modules meet the minimum requirements. If they do, the modules themselves may be defective.
Attempt to turn the computer on.

  • Sony Vaio Web button

I have a sony vaio pcg-7181m which has a quick access web button.  If I boot up the laptop in the usual way I have no problem.  However, if I press the Web button it tells me the wifi is disconnected.  When I try to configure it, it says 'connecting' then 'disconnected' in a vicious circle and refuses to connect.  It used to work fine when I had Virgin broadband but it refuses to connect to the BT hub.  Despite being subscribed to their annual IT support, the woman I spoke to told me to stop using the web button and just boot up in the usual way!  And I pay an annual fee for that!

    Hi,
I'll assume you're using Windows.  In the bottom right (near the clock) does it say you're connected before you press you're web button.  Also does the Vaio have any software that can be used to configure the shortcut buttons on your laptop.
Added to that, what browser does your web button launch.  Is it Internet Explorer or another program (It'll normally be whatever you have as your default)

  • [Sony Vaio TZ] Xorg mapping wrong resolution

I recently bought a Sony Vaio TZ - awesome piece of equipment - but noticed my actual Xorg resolution was higher than what the specs said (by 2 pixels). This is kinda annoying...
Xrandr output before I use xrandr to set the correct resolution:
    [root@hermes stijn]# xrandr
    Screen 0: minimum 1024 x 768, current 1368 x 768, maximum 1368 x 768
default connected 1368x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right) 0mm x 0mm
    1366x768 60.0
    1360x768 60.0
    1024x768 60.0
    1368x768 60.0*
As you can see it says it detects 1368x768 as maximum resolution but lists the correct resolution (1366x768) as a possibility too.  My first reaction was to generate a modeline that would make Xorg behave, but that does not have the desired effect (it returns a 1368x768 line!):
    [root@hermes stijn]# gtf 1366 768 60
    # 1368x766 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 47.58 kHz; pclk: 85.64 MHz
    Modeline "1368x766_60.00" 85.64 1368 1440 1584 1800 766 767 770 793 -HSync +Vsync
I have tried setting a Modes line in xorg.conf like this:
    Modes "1366x768"
but that gives me the following message in Xorg's log:
(II) I810(0): Not using mode "1366x768" (no mode of this name)
Adding a 'Virtual' line with the correct dimensions like this:
    Virtual 1366 768
    doesn't do the trick either.
Grepping Xorg's log for both X sizes returns the following:
    [root@hermes stijn]# egrep "1366|1368" /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(II) I810(0): Display Info: LFP (local flat panel): attached: TRUE, present: TRUE, size: (1366,768)

    (II) I810(0): [drm] init sarea width,height = 1368 x 768 (pitch 2048)
Why the heck does the i810 map to this resolution? Xorg recognises the 1366x766 correctly no? Is there a way to make Xorg use 1366x766 without having to resort to xrandr? For what it's worth, I had this issue also with the vesa driver.

Ok. I went with xmodmap because xbindkeys basically does the same, only requiring you to install an extra package .
I mapped the eject button to eject too (surprisingly, as I didn't know at first the slim drive had a button, I thought the whole thing was pressure sensitive...). I mapped the AV button to a fullscreen instance of VLC .
I fixed all Fn keys except for the zoom key (don't know how to map that to e.g. Opera's zoom functionality yet) and the external VGA connector which I should still write a script for.
