hey, my mom had a old mac with the silver tower. And she had a studio Display 17" and she just recently got a cinema dispaly and gave the screen to me. I am wondering what adapters i need to connect the Studio Display 17" TO my iMac G5. Thanks.

You need to use a DVI to ADC adapter. They're available from Apple or Dr. Bott. The ADC connector was introduced with the Gigabit Ethernet G4s and requires an extra power connector on the logic board just above the standard AGP slot. The Sawtooth models lack this, hence the power has to be supplied externally via an adapter. Unfortunately they're fairly expensive as the adapter includes the power supply.

Add old 18-inch Studio Display to 2013 iMac; How ??

I need more screen real estate. My current computer is a 27-inch iMac, bought in May, 2013. When I bought the iMac the folks at the Apple store across town told me I needed an adapter to run a 2nd monitor and they sold me a “Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter”. The DVI end of this has a 24-pin female connector with one horizontal bar.
My new machine replaced a dual G4 Mac tower, from 2002, that used an 18-inch Studio Display monitor. Problem is, this monitor has a 30-pin male connector with one horizontal bar that simply won't fit my adapter.
The guy at my near-by Microcenter store told me that they have no adapters to handle the transition between my old Studio Display and my new computer. But he said he thought Apple had something for $190 that would handle the transition. Hmmmmm. I can get a new monitor for less than that!
I've spent a couple hours rummaging around in the FAQs and don't find anything that helps me.
Anybody have any suggestions about how to attach my old Studio Display to my newish iMac?

Connecting external display to 2009 iMac 27" - resolution?

I have a late-2009 27" iMac and am trying to connect to it a 27" external display (ASUS PB278Q). Both the iMac and the Asus have resolution of 2560x1440, but when I connect them, the best I can get on the ASUS is 1920x1080.
I am connecting via the Mac's monitor port with a Mac dongle to a cable that is DVI on both ends.
Do I need a different cable type? The monitor allows DVI, Displayport and HDMI connections.

The standard Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter only supports monitors up to 1900 x 1200.

If you want a higher resolution you will need a Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter.

Connecting 3 displays to an iMac 27" mid-2011

Hello everyone, i was wondering if it's possbile to connect 2 thunderbolt displays (daisy chained) and a DVI screen to the second thunderbolt port at the same time on an iMac 27" mid2011?
I tried searching, but I didn't find anything about it. At the moment I have 1 thundebolt and the DVI screen (55" HDTV Full HD) using both thunderbolts, but if I could connect a second thunderbolt display, or eventualy a Cinema LED 27" it would be very useful.

I've connected the display to the iMac but the display shows an "Out of Range" message. I'm running 10.3.9. The display doesn't show up in the Display window in the System Preferences.

All is well. I set the display setting to the highest resolution and it works.

Depending on the iMac you have, you have different ports: Mini-DVI, Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt. Mini DisplayPort is available in 2009 and newer iMacs, and Thunderbolt is available in the Mid 2011 and Late 2012 iMac.
You have to use one of those ports to connect an external display. You will probably have to look for an adapter, depending on the port the external screen has got

Do I need the DVI to ADC adapter to connect my "old" 15" Studio Display (LCD) to the MacPro?
Just bought the MacPro, upgrading from my G4 Powermac circa 2001. No one at the Apple Store mentioned needing an adapter even though I said I had an older display from 6 years ago. I am not happy to say the least. Partly went for the MacPro because I had this display, though small by current standards. Now another $100 I did not expect.
Any recommendations for displays...at a smaller price? Maybe I should have gone with an iMac....

Unfortunately hardly anyone stops to think that some older Apple displays used the ADC adapter. I bet half of the staff don't even know what an ADC connector is. Anyway, yes you will need the ADC to DVI adapter unless you can already convert your video signal to VGA. In that case you can then use the includes VGA to DVI adapter that was included with your Mac Pro.

You can try Dell. They often have specials which results in very cheap displays.
Maybe I should have gone with an iMac
My parents just bought iMacs (24" with 2.33GHz upgrades) and while they're very nice they can't come close to the performance of the Mac Pro, especially if you implement RAID 0. So while you might be a bit deflated over this just remember that you did buy a far better performing system.

A notable peculiarity of Thunderbolt is that it uses exactly the same connector as Mini Display Port, and that's not all. The Thunderbolt connector also carries Mini Display Port video signals. That means you can plug a Mini Display Port video cable/adapter in to a Thunderbolt connector and your monitor will work.

Trouble Connecting 30" External Display to Retina iMac

I'm trying to connect a 30" display (Dell U3011) to a new retina iMac.
On my old Mac Pro (using the DVI connection), the display would connect at 2560x1600 as expected.
On the new iMac (using the MiniDisplay Port to DVI adapter) the display will only connect at 1920x1080.
Am I doing something wrong? Is the lower resolution a limitation of the MiniDisplay Port? Yosemite?

Thanks. I figured out the problem, which amounts to RTFM: Mini DisplayPort to DVI doesn't support 2560x1600, but either a dual-link adapter (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001IF252C), or a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, works just fine.

Hey quick question. Im good with Macs but not so good with all the adapters and stuff. heres the problem. Imac g5 + 17' studio display need help please

hi i have an imacg5 the model with the isite built in, and i just got ahold of an 17 inch apple lcd studio display...ive had a real hard time looking for adapters, i bought the apple adc to dvi converter thing for 99 dollars and i have that dvi wire going into a dvi to vga adapter so i could use try to use it on my imac... it all hooks up fine but i dont receive any picture, just a black screen...the usbs work fine sumhow, i can plug in my ipod and that reads thru the moniter fine. does anyone know anyway i could fix this? thanks alot in advance.
