Connecting to a 27-inch display?

Can a new Macbook Air connect to a 27-inch Apple display? If so, what adapters do I need?
Thanks.

None. The display has the cables required. Just plug them in.
I have the 27" Apple display myself, and it's truly fantastic.

    Thanks.

If your PowerBook has a dual-link DVI port, it will work with the 30-inch Cinema Display; this port can be found on a PowerBook with a clock speed of 1.67GHz. Neither the PowerBook nor the MacBook has upgradable graphics.

You won't get anything higher than 1280 x 800 out of the Mac mini however.

  • How I connect a 27 " Mini DisplayPort Display to a Mac Pro 2006?

    Dear All,
I need to know if I can connect a 27" Mini DisplayPort Display to Mac Pro 2006
    Thanks a lot in advance

You can certainly do that, the Apple Online store sells it for US$150.

I have not tested it. It is certainly good to know it exists. I hate paying the premium for "leading edge" equipment, so I am writing from my 2009 Mac Pro with used Apple 30 inch Cimena display.
If I were to pay what that new display costs, I would buy a new display card to drive it directly. My recommendation is to upgrade your diplay card for US$100 more (than the cost of the adapter) and get a card capable of Dual-Link DVI AND two Mini Displayports.

  • "Macbook Pro 17-inch" OR "15-inch 2.0Ghz + 23-inch display" ?

I'm ready to upgrade my iMac G4 and would like to change to a Macbook Pro. The decision i'm working on making is whether to invest in the 17-inch MBP or go for the 15-inch + 23-inch display. Both options cost about the same.
The combination of laptop and display creates the flexibility of working on a large desktop display at home and bringing the laptop with me when I travel.
The 17-inch brings the higher performance. Perhaps the 17-inch display is plenty of screen space for working at home (I've been working with a 17-inch screen on my G4 iMac for several years)
I would describe my use of the system as "home use" -> internet, email, iTunes, photo library/editing/I'm thinking about upgrading from iPhoto to Photoshop, video storage/I've done very little video editing but may start with Final Cut Express,
I'd very much appreciate any comments and advice from anyone who can make suggestions about which of these systems would be best for my needs.
Some additional questions about the MBP + Cinema Display combination:
Is it a good idea to run the MacBook Pro 15-inch connected to a 23-inch Apple display? I realize the Apple displays are targeted at Mac Pro users. Would i get the full benefit of the display performance if I'm driving it with a Macbook Pro? Is it convenient to "dock" and "un-dock" the MBP from the display? Besides the Bookendz product is there any expectation that Apple will produce a docking station to connect the MBPs to the displays?

If you plan on using it mainly at home, I would get the 15" and external display. That's what I done. It's been working out great. You don't need a docking station either. Everything is easy to attach and unattach,

Mini DisplayPort to DVI. If the monitor is a 30-inch model, it requires a dual-link DVI adaptor.

  • Is it possible to attach two 27 inch displays the new generation 17 inch MacPro?

Is it possible to attach two 24 inch displays to the new generation 17 inch Macbook Pro?

You can attach one monitor to the Thunderbolt port and the other to a USB port. At present the Thunderbolt port in and of itself can't support two monitors, and the one third-party box I know of that enables connecting two monitors to a mini-Displayport hasn't yet been updated for Thunderbolt compatibility. Here's the kind of adapter you'd need for the USB connection:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/VIDU2DVIA/
Note that the USB connection would be limited to a maximum of 2048 x 1152 resolution with that adapter (or less with many other USB adapters). That's enough for Apple's 24" LED display, if that's the one you were thinking of. USB's slowness also imposes performance limitations on USB-connected displays, so the one connected via Thunderbolt is the one you'd want to view any fast-action video or games on.
Oops, I've just noticed that you asked in your subject line about 27" displays and in the body of your query about 24" displays. The short answer with respect to 27" displays is no, you could only run one at its native resolution. You could add a 24" display via USB.

I wanted to know if the MacBook Pro 15.4 inch display 8gb memory and 750 gb hard drive would be a good computer for ease of use, fast Internet connections, good graphics, good memory, and some gaming. Maybe one or two games

    that works.......
as for the fast internet connection - that all depends on the service plan you have with your ISP.

  • MacBook Pro connecting to my 2 x displays.....

    Hello,
I was just about to click the Buy Now btton, when I had a sinking feeling about Thunderbolt.
Does anyone know if you can connect 2 x 20 inch Aluminium Displays to a MBP ? Thunderbolt seems to have taken over from the traditional ports and I admit I am really behind on the latest spec of Macs !
Ideally, I would love to run both displays and the display on the MBP too, so 3 displays on extended desktop. Is this possible or am I just being silly ?
I guess I will need an adapter, will this reduce resolution or quality ?
Thank you so much in advance
    Dave

Does your MBP have Thunderbolt or is it an older model??
If I'm correct, your 20" Aluminum Display uses the DVI connector, right??  That model of display is one generation older than mini Display-port (mDP), which even that is being evolved into the newer Thunderbolt technology.
To answer your question... you can NOT daisy chain DVI display (nor can you daisy chain mDP displays either).  So if You are wanting to use Your 20" displays, you need an open port for 'each' display you want connected.  Plus, you'll need to use an adapter to be able to connect a DVI display into a mDP (or TB) port.
    A mDP-to-DVI adapter like this:  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A
Basically, even with an additional adapter (to get your DVI display to connect current computers), you'll only be able to use ONE of your external displays... since the MBP only has ONE mDP/TB port.
**side note:  if you were using a Mac Pro (the big tower desktop unit), then your graphic card 'may' have more than one video port.  Then you would be able to use both of the older DVI displays.
    Hope that helps...
