Connecting to a Ad Hoc connection

I cannot connect to my Ad Hoc wireless with my IPOD Touch. I can see that it is connected, but no data moves back and forth....any insight as to why?

You may have to go to Settings>wifi>the network and enter the necessary settings if the Ad Hoc networ is not using DHCP. The setting depend upon the network.
If Settings>General>the network shows an IP address of 169.... or 10...... that means the iPod could not obtain the settings (not using DHCP) and the iPod assigned its own IP address.

Not sure if you fixed the issue. But by selecting No Authentication when you create an Ad Hoc connection, iDevices connect to the ad hoc. I use it all the time at office to browse internet where my 3G signals are weak.

  • How to connect my ipod touch using ad hoc that i created?

pls help me on this. theres a sign of wifi at the upper left of my ipod meaning i am connected to the ad hoc i have created in my laptop. but when i go to safari, itunes, facebook, email, it always appear that theres no internet connection. please help me on this.

Is the as hoc network assigning an IP address (using DHCP)? If not yo will have to go to Settings>wifi the connected network and enter the appropriate IP address and other things like DNS. What you enter depends upon how your network is setup. The instructions for setting it up should say how to configure it.

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - Anything else here
iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • Ad Hoc Connection with Windows Vista

Ok I know that this question has been asked many times over, however I am having trouble finding anything that is similar to my setup. So here we go. I have a laptop that is connected directly to the internet. I am trying to get my iTouch connected to the internet through the ad hoc connection that I have setup. I was able to get it connected for a short amount of time once, but haven't been able to get it connected since. I am not too savy to this whole networking so that is why I am here. Most of the threads I have read are a hard to understand for me. If anyone can help me out I would be greatly appreciated.

I assume that you want to use your Windows computer as the network source for the iPad to join so read this.

  • Ad hoc connection doesn't work with my 3gs but works with my touch

I setup an ad hoc connection on my laptop following a guide on the internet.
I did this on windows 7 32bit, it worked for my ipod touch but for some reason it won't work with my iphone 3gs (upgraded with the latest updates)
I connect to the wireless network, it shows its connected (with the wifi symbol at the top in the iphone's status bar) but as soon as i try using the internet via safari or any other app, it reverts back to using 3g or edge networks. I've checked and after reverting it still shows wifi is connected but the wifi symbol is no longer in the status bar and judging by the speed of the connection it really isn't connected to wifi.
Any ideas why this is happening?
It's just so odd that it works on my ipod touch but not on my iphone 3gs... Can't be a windows related problem.

Did you ever get this fixed? I'm having the same problem and can't figure out the solution.

  • Can connect to router but not ad hoc network. Works fine with iPhone.

My brand new ipad on ios 3.2.2 connects fine to my router and my jailbroken iphone running Mywi. However, I cant connect to an ad hoc network set up on my laptop running vista. My iphone connects to the ad hoc without any problems. I've tried everything, static ips, wep, wpa, hard resets, restoring, resetting network settings but no go. How can' everything else be fine but not connecting to the ad hoc network, especially since it works fine to connect with the iphone?
Btw, the ad hoc is for controlling music software on the laptop through wifi. It's not for getting internet.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
    Many thanks,
    L

Hi and welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Did you try doing a search, upper right corner of this window, on remote control? There have been a number of discussions during the last two weeks about remote control problems.
There have also been discussions about networking an iPad via another computer, such as iMac or MacBook Pro, using the computer's wireless card rather than a router.
See if one of those will answer your question.

  • Ios7 can't connect to wifi ad-hoc network

    Hi,
I have a problem connecting my iPhone 4S to the ad-hoc wifi connection my macbook creates when "sharing" the ethernet internet connection through wifi, with iOS6 it worked flawlessy. I have no problems connecting in wifi to my router though.
Anyone experienced that? Could you try?
    Thank you

For what it's worth, I contacted the support team at Avatron (the developer of Air Display) and asked whether they had any workarounds. Here's what they came up with:
Thanks for contacting us at Avatron support about the issues that you've been seeing when connecting via an ad hoc network. I was unaware of this problem but after doing some testing this morning it seems to happen with one of our iOS 7 iPad 2s as well.
While this definitely seems like something that Apple needs to address, I was able to get Air Display working over the ad-hoc network if I disabled internet sharing from the Mac System Preferences > Sharing pane. Obviously the drawback of this is that the iPad will no longer be connected to the internet when you are using Air Display in this manner.
Please let me know if this is able to serve as a temporary workaround while Apple investigates the problem.
    Cheers,
    Aaron

Clearly this is not a full fix as I can't access the internet when connected to my ad-hoc network, but at least I got Air Display running.
Their reply also suggests that this isn't a blanket issue covering all devices running iOS7, as only "one of [their] iOS 7 iPad 2s" was having the same problem.

  • Connecting to an ipv6 ad-hoc network

    hello
I am tryin to connect to an ad-hoc network with the iPad (iOS 4.2). As far as I know, from iOS 4.2, the iPad should be ipv6 capable. As my ad-hoc network is an ipv6 net, I wa pretty happy. However, when I connect to the ad-hoc net, it doesn't seem to be possible to enter a static ipv6 address. At least the input window for the address, netmask etc. looks exactly the same as if I would configure it for ipv4 and, as soon as I enter an IPv6 address and netmask and go back to the setting - then return, the static address is lost and the connection is automatically switched back to DHCP (eventhough there is no dhcp on the ad-hoc network).
Does anybody encounter similar issues? Some help would be really great...

    Hi @Handrlica,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are wondering how to connect your HP Officejet Pro 8620 to an existing ad-hoc network. I am happy to look into this for you!
This printer does not have ad-hoc capability. However it does have these options of connecting: Wireless, Wireless Direct (similar to ad-hoc), Ethernet, and NFC.
I would take a look at connecting through either Wireless or Wireless Direct. Please see the following guides:
'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Windows 7.
    Printing with HP Wireless Direct.
For future reference, here is your printer's specifications, and user guide.
Hope this clears things up for you, and have a great day!

  • Connect Apple TV to ad hoc network

I want to use AirParrot to mirror my Windows 7 to my Apple TV, but it doesn't connect a lot and is slow when I do it normally.
So I decided to create an ad hoc network on my Windows 7 Machine in hopes that I could have my TV connect to it.  But it isn't showing up in the list of networks.  How can I have my ATV connect to the network?

  • HP CP1525nw - Connect via wired network and wireless ad hoc?

At my job we have our HP 1525nw printer connected into the network printserver via ethernet cable.  The printer has its own IP address setup on the network.
With support for XP computers ceasing, a copule of computers will be cut off/blocked from the job's network.  One computer is close enough where we can make a USB connection to print.  Another is located on another bench.  Furthermore, the one that is further away from the printer also can't be upgraded to a compliant Windows OS due to incompatibility with specialized software used to operate equipment hooked up to this computer.
Is it at all possible for this wired network printer to also be setup to print wireless via an ad hoc connection?  The idea was perhaps we could install a wireless card on thix XP computer and  print wirelessly via a direct connection to the printer, avoiding having to connect to it via the wired network at all.  But it is sounding like this wouldn't be possible.  Looking for a direct answer before I start shopping around for a wireless PCI card.
    This question was solved.

From other posts I have read, I think the CP1525 can be either ethernet or wireless not both at the same time.  That will prevent you from setting up with an adhoc network the way you described.
You might try an inexpensive wireless router with a build in print server attached to the usb port.  then add wireless USB wireless dongles to the XP computers.  Be sure you make sure that the wireless dongles support XP. Also for security purposes you will want to leave the wireless router disconnected from your network.
If your fairly tecky and you don't mind playing a bit you could check your local thrift store for a used router with a print server.  For printing you don't need the fastest wireless available.  Just make sure it is a b/g router (not a B only one).

  • Wireless printer ad hoc connection

I am using a Verizon Jetpack for IE connectivity; it will not let me configure the wireless connection through it from my Dell laptop to my printer. Is there any way that I can bypass the jetpack and just have the laptop and printer communicate wirelessly? Ad Hoc, so to say? thanks

    Hi,
Install the latest firmware for the printer, then you may use HP Wireless Direct to connect up to 5 devices directly to your printer.
The latest firmware can be found below:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=bi-101905-8&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Next enable Wireless Direct under Setup > Network > Wireless Direct.
The passcode can be found within the same menu.

  • Ad Hoc WT-3a connection

I am looking for some technical help. I have been able to connect my nikon D200 via their new wireless WT-3a device with an infra-structural connection and it works ok. This is done with my wireless linksys 45G router, wirlessly connected to my iMac.
I am now trying to connect direct from camera to computer using an ad hoc network, and am unable to get it to work. Suggestions as to where to look would be great. Details important.
    Thanks
    Steven

    One last tidbit of information.
WT-3A on my nikon D200 shooting only RAW (15.5meg per image) connecting wireless (ad hoc--that is camera directly to computer--a MacBook Pro 2.33 with 3 gig of RAM) I
    got the following results
Two runs of 20 pictures shot quickly. Run 1 was within a few feet of the computer, Run 2 was about 20-25 feet (another room with walls) away
First 10 images into the folder on my computer..both runs 14.6 seconds per picture
All 20 pictures into the folder on my computer: Run 1 was 11.9 seconds per picture; Run 2 was 13.6 seconds per picture
All 20 pictures into Aperture, full screen displayed as they appear: Run 1 was 13.6 seconds per picture, Run 2 was 15.1 seconds per picture.
Not sure how far way one can be, but that will be sensitive to environment, walls, other electronic devices.
Battery life is of some concern and I will be doing two live shoots (one today for fun and one on Sunday for work) using this model and see how the battery actually holds up.
