Connecting to a flatscreen - can the computer be closed?

Hi,
I frequently watch movies on my macbook connected to my flatscreen via miniDVI to vga. I usually leave the screen open but I just upgraded to a bigger TV and would like to keep the screen closed to save space. Is this possible? Do I need snow leopard?
-CT

Yes. Wake it up with an external keyboard and mouse; if using Bluetooth, they need to be paired with the computer first. Click here for more information.

    Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
    You can redownload iTunes purchases by:

  • When i connect my ipod touch to the computer and it brings up itunes, and it starts syncing, it just stays on the last step(6) and I can't download anything else to my ipod.

    I connected my ipod touch to the computer.  When it brings up itunes and start to sync, it stalls at the last step (6).  This keeps me from being able to add other songs from my library to my ipod.  I'm very new at this and maybe just don't understand how it works.

    Every time I connect my IPhone 5s to the computer it comes up as a new phone ,even know I have synced it to the computer before and it worked fine

    I would try 2 things. First, I would de-authorise the computer, then authorise it again.  If that doesn't work, then  second, you could try uninstalling iTunes and then reinstalling.

  • I need help with closing a running program. It seems like it does not count as a program. Tried to turn of the computer and closing all programs. Please help!?

    I have a problem with a grey text box. It writes and says all i do. For example: When i now write it says all the letters one for one. If i open a new rogram it says so. If i click on something it gives me information about it. I can click the box and drag it, but dont close it. I have restarted the computer and closing all windows and programs. It just popped out when i was pressing some buttons on the mac. I think it is a easy way to fix it, but i cant find out what it is named and search for it. I think it is made for help and i did not download anything to get it. If i change user on the mac it does go away when I am on the other user, but i really want to keep the one i have because off all the settings and programs i have.
    Please reply if you know anything about this.

  • Can the lid be closed and still run the computer with an external display?

    I purchased a 19" LCD display to hook to my G3, everything works fine but I cannot find any reference on whether the lid for the laptop can be closed while running the computer. Can anyone help answer this for me? Currently I am looking at my laptop with the lid half-closed, or is that open...Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    PowerBook G3 333MHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   The Lombard, 384MB RAM

    Make sure the computer is plugged in on the AC power adapter. (this is because the power requirements are higher for an external display.)
    - Close the PowerBook's display. The PowerBook will go to sleep.
    - Connect the external monitor.
    - Turn on the external monitor.
    - Connect an external Apple USB keyboard and mouse.
    - Now the PowerBook will wake from sleep.
    Next time when you want your Powerbook to sleep use the "sleep" option from the Blue Apple menu (on the left top).

  • Zen V Plus keeps connecting and then disconnecting to the computer. HEL

    So when I plug in my Zen V Plus into the computer using the USB cable, it pops up in windows XP as usual, but then 2 seconds later it disconects. I move it to the side and it re-connects, then 2 seconds later it disconects again. Can anyone tell me what's going on with my Zen??Thank you !!

    I cannot guarantee that this is the answer to your question (I'm not an electrical engineer), but the same thing happened when I tried once to charge my Zen V Plus at work. But after reading this forum for a while, I came to the conclusion that the Zen waits for a specific signal from the USB port that says it's okay to charge it. If it doesn't get the signal, it goes to "sleep" for a while, then wakes up to check again. If still no "okay" signal is received, it cycles back and forth between sleeping and checking. That's why the screen lights up, then goes off for a while, then lights up again.
    This is a GOOD thing I guess because it means I don't have to do the "disconnect USB dri've" thing since the Zen knows when it's receiving power.
    At home I don't experience this behavior.

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
  • Connecting an SPA 3102 after the computer
    I am moving to a house in a fairly remote part of Australia without a telephone connection. To get the phone connected will be very expensive and take considerable time. I have mobile phone and wireless internet connection available but only with the most expensive provider. I am not a big user of the phone but every now and then, I have to make one of those calls that go through adozen menus and then leave you on hold for an hour, theb type of call that can send you bankrupt using a mobile service.
    My proposed solution is to have a prepaid wireless internet account, using a USB dongle connected to my computer as the internet connection. Then to connect either a SPA3102 or a PAP 2T between the computer and a handset and use a VOIP service such as Voipcheap to make calls. With this setup, I would have unlimited landline calls within Australia for around $50 per year, much less that something like Skype.
    Can I do this and if so, how? I have both devices and they are both presently configured to work connected to my Linksys gateway. Do I connect the computer to the LAN or eithernet of the SPA 3102 and will it just require a normal LAN cable? How do I assign the various addresses required? Do I need any extra software for my computer?
  • I get a message that tells me when I try to connect my Ipad 1 to the computer, that I have to download a newer version. The version on the computer is deleted twice, and a new version is downloaded, but it still doesn`t work. What to do?
    Is there anybody out there who can tell me what I`m doing wrong? I`ve just bought this Ipad1, mostly for the kids to play with, but I still want it to work properly.
    I first got the message that apple mobile device wasn`t activated. I did activate, and now I get the message that I have to download a never version of iTunes. The version on the computer is the newest, but what`s on my Ipad? No clue. But it`s updatet to the newest IOS 5, so i guess iTunes is updated too?? Or?
    Anything I can do to fix this? It`s pretty annoying if I can say so...!
    Regards
    There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
    The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
    If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
    Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
    Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:
    K my sister just got a new ipod shuffle and wants to connect it to the computer. my nano is already connected to the same computer she wants to use.
    How do i put it on the computer without messing up my itunes?
    Please help if you can
    iTunes will recognize that it is a different device. However, if you're worried that your sister is going to rate songs differently than you would like, well that's different. See if this article offers any guidance:
  • Can the computer sleep while encoding?
    I am currently in the process of making a DVD from iMovie using iDVD. While I knew it would take a long time to go through all the encoding, I didn't count on it lasting this long.
    I have to pack up the computer and take it home, possibly before it finishes the process. My quesiton is this, can I close the lid on the computer while it is still encoding without having to start over? Can it sleep and pick back up where it left off, or better yet, can I change settings so it won't go to sleep when I close the lid? It has been going for about three hours now, I would really hate to have do it all over again.
    Second question: I have made DVD's using iDVD before, and although they have been about the same length (actually with many more effects than this one), none of them has taken this long to encode. We have been sitting in the "encoding audio" phase for nearly all of the time this go 'round. I hear this is not uncommon, but how will I know if iDVD has frozen?
    Thanks for any suggestions, I have about an hour before I have to close the lid....
    Bryan
    Len,
    Something you do for while you're on the boat picking up your DVD-Rs?
    You got it!
    .... or almost. I shoot underwater video and on the boatride home I sometimes have a lot of time (1.5-2 hrs). So one day I decided to try my luck - and it worked.
    OK, that's the last time.
    Man, I sure hope so ....
    I knew I should never have written that comment .... LOL.
    Actually, I'm quite amazed that closing the lid would return you to the process...and finish successfully.
    Have to add here: I only tried this when creating a disk image. But it always worked.
  • Connecting my iPhone 4S to the computer makes my home network crash
    Everytime I connect my new iPhone 4S 64gb to my computer, it starts a sync with iTunes and then the phone makes a sound like it disconnects (like when you unplug the phone from the pc) and then I watch the network bar at the taskbar and it shows like the network is disconnected, and the phone too, and also my entire house gets disconnected from internet. Just like the router was being unpluged or something.
    This has not been a coincidence, I have done it lots of times and it keeps disconnecting me like 15 seconds after I plug the Phone into the computer.
    PS: I just have noticed that it seems to give me an error when I sync a couple apps from my old iphone to this one (all content from the old one has been completely deleted) and when the phone syncs the apps that are missing it gives an error and then boom, internet crashes.
    Error for every app is: 0xE8000065
    Hey guz2221,
    I found an article that will help isolate and resolve the issues of 0xE8000065. If it is a Mac that you are syncing with, there is an article link inside the following that will go into detail for that system.
