Connecting to a foreign wireless network with my macbook pro

hi
i'm swapping my NY apt for one in italy. i have a brand new mac book pro and can see the network on my airport, and i have the WPA password. when i enter the password it says it's invalid.
i've read the apple support pages and troubleshooted the password, adding $ to the beginning of the password, quotes, X0 etc. to no success.
i have my swap's spare laptop here (hence i'm able to write here) and her laptop gets on the network with no problem. there's no ethernet cable here for me to try and see if i can get on that way.
i'm wondering if it has something to do with the modum settings (which i looked at on her laptop but they're um, in italian)...for example, there is an option for me to make the network public, but then i get a warning about the firewall (in italian).
i'm also wondering if it has something to do with my airport settings...do i need to change something in my airport preferences under 802.1?
i think it has something to do with her modum settings. but really i have no idea.
i've used the assist feature in airport, i've gone through diagnostics, i've restarted the modum and the laptop...
any ideas? thanks.

hmmmmmmmph. after asking my swap again and again for the password, she gave it to me again, with 5 more characters. yup...now i have PERFECT wireless!!!!!!
sigh. THANKYOU for your help....
sadly, in the meantime i managed to kill her wireless conection on her italian laptop, destroy her settings and can't find a way to resolve it because all the notifications are in italian. (i tried to make the network open) i'll have to call her tech guy to come in and reset them i suppose. argh!!
regardless...my mac has a great wireless connection now (if i had only had the correct password -- lesson learned...) happy happy happy...back to work...
thanks

I think the best you can do is use the System Information application (Utilities Folder), looking in the wireless section.

  • Vista connection problem to a wireless network with Linksys BEFW11S4 ver.4 router

I've purchased a laptop with Vista and can't get it to connect to my existing wireless network.  I have a Linksys BEFW11SF ver.4 router.  When I attempt, I get, "Wireless connection failed because the network denied the association request from this computer."  Anyone?  Thanks.

Not sure about the Error ....but you can change the wireless settings on the router & see if it connects or not ....

  • HT201178 Is it possible to use an Apple wireless keyboard with a MacBook Pro? Sounds odd, I know, but I much prefer typing on a wireless keyboard.

With a MacBook Pro..is it possible to use an Apple wireless keyboard instead of the keyboard built into the MacBook Pro? I much prefer typing on the wireless keyboard. Thanks

    Hello:
If the Macbook Pro has Bluetooth built-in, the answer is yes.

  • Connecting hp 4620 to wireless network with an apple airport express and apple OS X 10.5

Any help would be greatly.  This setup used to print wirelessly just fine until we switched internet providers and now the printer will not connect via the airport express router.  I've tried going into the airport utility, manual set-up, base station.....but there is no "add wireless clients" to choose like all the online help that I've read says should be there.  Thx in advance, Matt

    Hi Matt,
Temporarly connect the printer to your mac with a USB cable.
Go to Applicatons > Hewlett-Packard > Device Utilities and follow the HP Setup Assistant.
Select wireless connection during the setup, you will be prompted to provide your wireless network details to reconfgure the printer on your new network.

  • Wireless network Issue on MacBook Pro Duo (original) with Snow Leopard

    Hello all,
I have searched the forums and tried many solutions to no avail. I have the original Macbook Pro 2.16 Core Duo running 10.6.6. Here is the problem:
When I am at home, I have moderate trouble with my wireless. My signal/noise is 78 dPm/94 dPm. However, when I am at school my computer cannot even crawl on the internet unless it is in between classes when the network activity is low.
My school is a small grad school of only about 250 people, and 80% of the people in my class have newer Apples. No other person seems to be experiencing my problem. I can watch the people beside me surfing away on newer MacBooks while my connection times out almost every time.
It seems that everyone's connections drown my connection out. However, nobody else is experiencing my problem. It is if I am the last kid in the lunch line and nothing is left for me.
If there is any more information I need to provide, please do not hesitate to ask. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

"when I am at school my computer cannot even crawl on the internet unless it is in between classes when the network activity is low."
Make sure you are on the correct network if you have not already done so.
Repair permissions and restart your computer. If your computer has been in "sleep" mode for a few days, restart it. You really should restart your computer at least _"once a day"_ to refresh it.
"I have attempted to use the Airport Utility, *however, it detects nothing* and will not let me manually configure anything."
Is the light green on the router you are using? Apple has several Airport routers. Which one do you have?
After doing 1 through 5, did you restart your computer afterwards?

  • I can no longer connect to the cloud which is a free wifi network with my macbook pro although my iPad is fine.

thecloud are not providing much help and I wonder whether any of you know how I can clear any settings that might need to be refreshed.  I can connet to other wifi networks with no problem.

They seem to think this is a known issue for MACS

  • Wireless Problems with my Macbook Pro

I recently bought an Apple Macbook Pro, and I have been experiencing wireless connection issues. I have a D-Link DIR 655, and it is running in the mixed mode (wireless n and wireless g). The problem that I am experiencing is that my Macbook Pro loses connection with my router every once in awhile. But, here is the wierd part. My Macbook Pro shows that it never loses connection in the menu bar. In addition, if I wait about 1 minute, my internet starts working again. I know that it has to be losing connection because when I have lost connection to the internet, I tried accessing the router page, but it would not display. Lastly, I do have a baby monitor and a 5.8 GHz wireless phone. But, I have a Windows machine that uses this router and is on the wireless n spectrum, and it has never dropped a connection. Also, I have many other wireless g devices, and they have never dropped a connection. So, I don't believe it is the router. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just purchased a new 15" MacBook Pro and I'm so frustrated with the wireless I want to throw it out the window. I have 3 Apple notebooks at home: a 2 year old white MacBook, a 1 year old 17" MacBook Pro, and this new MacBook Pro. I can put them side by side and see how badly the wireless capabilities have deteriorated with the newer computers. The old white MacBook can catch any signal, the 17" needs to be closer and aimed just so. My new MacBook sometimes shows full signal strength but simple won't make connections where both the other MacBooks work fine. **** this. I've been a loyal Apple fan since I made the switch two years ago. But this is about the end. Anyone from Apple listening?

  • ITunes keeps taking new songs off my iPhone 4s when wirelessly synced with my MacBook Pro. How do I stop this??

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and whenever my phone is close enought to my computer to wirelessly sync, it takes all my new songs I just added within the last week off my iPhone and I have to connect it with the cord and sync it to get it all back. Why does it do this? I'm getting very annoyed at having to do this multiple times a day just to keep the new stuff I added on my phone..

  • How do I add a computer to network with my MacBook Pro?

I'm having difficulty getting my new MacBook Pro to recognize my PC on my home network in order to print.  The MacBook Pro is not accepting the software for the hp printer.  The message window states "...can't open the hp-all-in-one installer because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

You need to go to the HP website and download the current installer. That one you are using is about six years old.
Can you connect the printer directly to the Mac? If so, you should be able to have it find the correct drivers by adding the printer in the Print & Scan system prefs.

  • Can't connect to Ethernet or Wireless internet with my MacBook

    Hello.
I got a problem with my new MacBook. Every time im connecting it to the internet, the status of the internet connection turns yellow. This happens both with Wireless and Ethernet connections. Sometimes its working for like 10 minutes, and then it doesnt. After it's off the internet once again. All the other computers can't connect. Its like it can't get its own IP-adress. It steals the Windows Ip-adresses and then they cant connect to the internet.
Anyone able to assist me? Or should i call Apple?
Sorry for my bad english, im not pro at it yet.
    Regards,
    Martin from Denmark.

Are you using a router? If not then only one computer can be connected at a time.
If you are using a router, have you added your computers MAC address to the routers Access Control List?
Does your router have a setting where you can limit how many computers can be connected at one time?
Are you using an Apple Airport Base Station as your router or some third party router? If it is third party you would need to ask the router manufacturer how to add the macbook to your current network.

  • I have to use a wireless mouse with my MacBook Pro because the touchpad does not consistently work.  Now, the wireless mouse is not consistently staying connected.  Any ideas??

Why doesn't my Apple wireless remote remain connected?  It is frequently giving me a "lost connection" signal and since the touch pad works intermittently it has become frustrating.

  • Can't Send Email or Connect to Computers on the Network with my MacBook

Problem started yesterday... I have a 1.83GHz MacBook that will not connect to file share or printer share with my other mac. It will also not send any emails on any of my accounts, although it will receive email. Any idea why this is?

Go to System Preferences and then head to Sharing. See if there's anything weird there.

  • Why can't I connect my iPhone 4 via bluetooth with my Macbook Pro Version 10.7.5?

How come that the bluetooth connection won't work. On the computer shows it is paired and is working properly while on the iphone shows not connected.

The only thing you can do with bluetooth and your mac is for the mac to share the internet connection using personal hotspot on your phone. Other than that you cannot use bt to transfer files or sync the phone with the mac.

  • HP B210a no longer connects with my MacBook Pro

After nearly two years of almost seemless operation, my HP B210a Photosmart Plus printer does not connect through the wireless network to my MacBook Pro.  This happened despite the fact that my Internet provider, wireless router and physical set-up have remained the same.  I have gone through all of HP's suggested trouble shooting steps, incluidng powering down the printer for >15 seconds, reinstalling the printer on my Mac, using the Set-up Wizard on the printer itself and praying.
    Can anyone help me?
    Joe

    Hi!
    @JoeFinkler
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that your Photosmart B210a seems to have stopped communicating with your Mac.
I've included the Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection troubleshooting document.  It has a section dedicated to Mac OS X.
    @JLL123
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure, I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums, since this is a commercial product. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/
    I hope this helps.
