Connecting to a home network with D-Link G122

Help anybody.
I have an old Blue & White iMac 10.2.8, am trying to get it to link up to our network at home via a D-Link G122 USB Wireless adaptor and am on the the third set of drivers. Saw from another site that this was not a very good setup, any assist would be appreciated
iMAC   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

USB wireless adapters are very troublesome and many/most people give up on them. They require drivers that match the version of Mac OS that you are using. If D-Link doesn't have appropriate drivers you probably won't get it to work.
If your iMac is a tray loader, a much better solution is an Ethernet wireless adapter (like the Linksys WET11 or WET54G). These require no drivers and therefore will work with any Ethernet device.
If your iMac is a slot loader (please post the CPU speed) then it probably has an internal AirPort card slot.

  • Why can I connect to my home network with my iPhone 5 in one room, but when I move to another it is 'unable to connect to the network'

At home, I can connect my iPhone 5 to my home wifi network with no problems, as long as I stay downstairs.
As soon as I go upstairs my phone disconnects from the network. I can still see the home network it in the available network lists (with full signal strength), but when I try to reconnect I get an 'unable to connect to the network message'
If I move back downstairs it reconnects
This has only started happening in the past week or so
I've tried to forget and rejoin the network, but this doesn't work
I reset my network settings on the phone. This worked for a couple of hours and I could connect to the wifi upstairs, but now it won't connect again.
Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this?

Sounds like your wi-fi signal strength has degraded.  Try rebooting your wi-fi router, or get it serviced.
Do you have similar issues with any other wi-fi routers?

  • Why won't my iphone 4 connect to my home network?

I've had my iphone4 connected to my home wifi network for about 18 months with no problems.  A few weeks ago it suddenly dropped the connection and when I try to connect, and enter the password, it tries but then responds that it can't join the network.
I can connect to other networks at work and in public.  There is a laptop  and another iphone4 connected to the home network with no problems.
Today, I ahve reset the router (as suggested on another thread) and reconfigured the network.  The laptop is connected and working but now NEITHER iphone will connect to the wifi.
    Help please!
    Sue

Thanks for trying but mine hasn't. I've connected to this router before with no problems. There doesn't seem to be a reasonable explanation.

  • I have the new iOS 6.1.2 on my iPad.  My wifi connects to my home network but keeps dropping it and won't reconnect.  Did not have this problem with previous iOS.

I have the new iOS 6.1.2 on my iPad.  My wifi connects to my home network but keeps dropping it and won't reconnect.  Did not have this problem with previous iOS.  Apple, you have a quality assurance issue.  Don't be like Microsoft where they send out pieces of junk with testing it.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

  • Tecra A10 - Refurbished - unable to get it connected to my home network

I just got this Tecra A10-104 refurbished Laptop...before I take it back I am asking here just in case theres something I have missed as I am unable to get it connected to my home network.
I am running a Belkin Wireless Router that has 2 main PC's directly connected (LAN), and another PC wirelessly connected.
    This is my router: http://www.belkin.com/uk/support/article/?lid=enu&pid=F5D8233uk4&aid=9238&scid=0
All PC's working fine and connected.
Now I'm trying to setup this laptop to connect.
I uninstalled the Vista Business and ussed the XP Pro Product Recovery disc that came with the Tecra.
My WiFi card is: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5100 (Driver Date: 27/04/2008 - Driver Version: 12.0.0.73)
It sees the network but no matter what i try just won't connect.
What I have done so far (read before suggesting stuff I have already tried):
Reconfigured routers WPS to Shared Key system.
Made sure the wireless adapter has settings set to 20/40hz (auto)
Restarted router, cable modem & laptop several times
Wireless button on side of Laptop is ON.
FN + F8 to enable WIFI (ON) BLUETOOTH (OFF)
Added wireless network to Auto Connect settings along with SSID and passcode end encryption method.
Clicked connect when network appears in network viewer dialogue and retyped passcode.
    Not working.
I should add the Laptop has no problems connecting via its Gigabit LAN port.
    Anything else I'm missing?
    Thanks in advance.
    EDIT: Dual post removed.

    UPDATE:
The next thing I tried was to reinstall Vista Business from recovery disc to see if this suffered from the same problem.
The wireless connection worked fine on Vista and, despite the updates that I was being offered, worked without needing to update any drivers.
This made me think...so the issue is probably XP DRIVER related.
What I have done now is backup all the driver updates I was told to download by TEMPRO (BIOS & wireless manager updates included).
I think part of the problem is that TEMPRO only works in Vista (not XP) so you are not informed of any updates that may be required if you downgrade to XP straight after purchase (which is what I did).

  • Can't even connect to my home network.

Title says it all, bought a 64gig iPad wifi today...little did i know tons of users are having wifi problems...my problem doesnt seem to fit the others though. Most of what i've read people can connect for a bit, and after being in sleep mode then it has problems. I can't even connect to my home network. Works fine with my ipod Touch, laptop, etc. I dont have any form of security set up on my router what so ever. I plan on buying a new router soon (for reasons other than this iPad crap.) I'd really like to see some kind of resolution to this problem before i need to do that though.
I tried all that i could out of the trouble shooting stuff. nothing worked. I even tried setting up a static IP for it. What else can be done? i really dont want to have to return it since its such a nice piece of tech.

Umm... one of the questions that's been asked is whether his iPad will connect anywhere else, If it will, the issues is between the iPad and the particular configuration he has at home. If not, the issue is with the iPad.
Since we don't have an answer to that question yet, your inference that anyone is telling him to "phone ahead to every business or hotel he plans on visiting to request that they replace their "clunky old router" " is unjustified and unhelpful.
Please, continuously blaming every ipad wifi issue on the same router that happily works with every other device is getting old. What standards does iPad support that these clunky old routers do not?
Since, as you've said in another post, you're experienced in the ways of the internet, you will know that it's quite common for new kit to have problems connecting to old kit.

  • How do I hook up a G3 iBook to my home network with only Windows machines?

I'm completely ignorant of Apple technology but pretty good for a novice with Windows PC's. To help a family member with an iBook (Mac OS 10.3.9) back up a gazillion family photos (at least 3.2GB in the iPhoto Library), we want to connect his iBook to my home network with two Windows machines (one of which is connected via UBS to an external drive for backup). But before I just connect his iBook to an Ethernet port on my Westell modem+router, what should I know?
I need to know all the basics and all the steps, in as detailed a manner as you can stand to tell me.
And when it all looks good, what are the steps to copy the iPhoto Library to a designated spot on one of the Windows machines (or that external hard drive)?
By the way, this is the iBook:
    Machine Model: iBook
    CPU Type: PowerPC 750 (2.3)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 640 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.6.4f1
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.3.9 (7W98)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 7.9.0
    Many thanks!

    Hello,
When I got my first mac this ( http://macs.about.com/cs/tipstutorials/a/xposxsharing.htm ) article helped me enormously.
It's very easy to write to the disc once you've set up the network.
On the mac locate the iPhoto library (normally open finder and click on pictures).
Open another finder window and locate the windows PC on your network, then mount the folder to which you will back up the iPhoto library.
Drag the iPhoto library to this folder.
    Wait.
    Wait some more.
When the copy is complete check the images can be accessed from the PC.
Unmount the folder from the mac by dragging it to the trash.
    Congratulations.

  • Need help connecting pritner to home network

Okay, here is the run down.  I just created a home network with a Netgear wireless N router.  I have an Airport Extreme Base Station (domed) that is connected to an HP inkjet printer, but not to either the router or the modem.  Previous to the home network, the AEBS was its own network and I was able to printer from computers (PC laptop and Mac Mini) by switching networks.  Now, I want to be able to stay in the home network and print.  From what I am reading, it appears that I need to reset the AEBS and put it in bridge mode.  I found instructions for this online, but could not get it to work.  Can someone please help me out here or direct me to a tutorial on how to do this?  Thanks

Something to try... check your computer name in the Sharing preferences. It sounds really bizarre, but when I first hooked up to my wireless, it had the same problem you are describing. Change the computer name to something with no spaces or strange characters. It worked for me! According to Qwest internet troubleshooting, this is a known problem with wireless Mac computers. Good luck!

  • Finding out devices connected to my home network (Time Capsule)

I have a mid-2013 mac pro and I am using time capsule, I suspect that I have some unwanted guests in my home network:-) how can I see devices connected to my home network?

The new TC and the new Mac OS airport utility are totally useless..
You can do it the old fashioned way with netstat scan from terminal or via the network utility (which is also now hidden so search for it).

  • My iphone 4s will only connect to my home network.

My iphone 4s will only connect to my home network. Any other I join (eg:starbucks) internet says connection error. Even though the phone says it's connected.

Since  I have upgraded the the latest iOS in my iPhone 4S , this problem started and eventually the white button for Wi-fi stopped working. The one day before switching off the phone , I took out the SIM and reset the Networking and didn't switch on. Then I wrapped the phone with tissue paper and kept it in the deep refrigerator for 25 to 30 minutes and after cleaning frosty layer, I turned on the phone.... Somehow the Wi-fi button started working and the Wi-fi network too. Then only I inserted the SIM . Magic..!! My phone is still working fine . But I have to do this process once or twice a month every time Wi-fi stops working. Good luck my friend....hope you get benefitted !!

  • I have a PVR which supports DLNA connected to my home network.  I want to access files on my MacBook from the PVR.  I understand that my MacBook doesn't support DLNA. Is there any 3rd party  software that I can install on my MacBook to provide DLNA?

    Hi,
    Can anyone help me please.
I have a Personal Video Recorder (Humax HDR-1010S), which supports DLNA, connected to my home network via Wi-Fi.
I want to play music from iTunes and view photos from iPhoto from my MacBook (which is also connected to the home network) via the PVR / TV / Home Cinema sound system.  I understand that my MacBook (running OS X Mavericks) doesn't support DLNA server.
Is there any 3rd party  software that I can install on my MacBook to provide DLNA server?
    Thanks,

My recollection is that the iPhoto library has some fairly robust protections to prevent inadvertent or even deliberate changes being made that might have unwanted consequences. I'll take alook at my setup and let you know if I can see anything that might help you. Even if you get Serviio to "see" the iPhoto library, it almost ceratinly won't show the album structure and names. What I did is to export each iPhoto album to a standard folder with the appropriate folder name. These I keep on an external backup disc and Serviio can see these without trouble.

  • My 2nd Gen iPod is "unable to connect" to our home network.

I recently purchased a 2nd Gen iPod touch, but when I try connecting it to out home wi-fi network, I encounter a problem.
The wi-fi screen opens fine, and allows me to select our network. I enter the password - and then I have a problem. I've double- and triple-checked the password, and I know I have the correct code. But when I enter the code, my iPod comes up with a message that tells me it is "unable to connect" to our home network.
I've looked at other posts, and checked the troubleshoot tips for wi-fi connectivity. Nothing has worked.
Our network router is plugged in, and functioning. Every other device in the house can connect, and access the internet. My iPod is the only one encountering an issue. After unplugging and reconnecting the router, and reseting the router and the iPod's network controls, I have literally no idea what to try now.
    Can anybody help me?

Well I'm not sure what you have tried so far.  But I also have a 2nd gen touch and when I have trouble with it...this may sound stupid but I go into WiFi in settings and turn off wifi.  I then force restart by holding down the home and power buttons until the screen goes black and you see the apple logo again., then release.  When it turns back on turn wifi back on and try to connect

  • How to hook up a G3 iBook to a home network with only Windows machines?

Before I attach an iBook (Mac OS 10.3.9) to a home network with only Windows machines, what should I know? (I intend to connect the iBook to an Ethernet socket on my Westell modem+router.) My reason for doing this is to back up a million family photos in the iBook's iPhoto Library.

    System Version: Mac OS X 10.3.9 (7W98)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 7.9.0
Please give me as much detail as you can stand to write, because I know nothing about Apples. It's for my dear old Dad, who has no other way to back up priceless photos.
For example, when things are working well and the iBook "sees" the Windows machines, how do I copy the iPhoto Library?
    Thanks!!

  • HT1338 Wifi won't connect to my home network. "Connection Timed out"

It's possible your wi-fi router needs to be reset, or the firmware needs to be updated.
