Connecting to a Linksys WRT110

I just purchased a Mac Book Pro running Mac OS X 10.6 and am trying to connect it to my wireless network. I have a Linksys WRT110 router with version 1.0.03 firmware running WPA2 Personal TKIP or AES encryption. When trying to connect from my Mac, I get an "Invalid Password" error. I've entered and re-entered the password several times to no avail. Any ideas?
Thanks

Thanks Sig..wish I could say that solved it, but I'm still getting the "Invalid Password" error. I'm using a 63 character ASCII password with WPA2 personal. I saw some info in other posts about using the $ sign for hex passwords with WEP and enclosing ASCII passwords in quotes for WEP as well. I tried the quotes with my WPA2 password and it would not even let me save the password.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks

  • New Toshiba wireless turns Internet connection off (thru Linksys WRT110)

I "commissioned" a new Toshiba A660 (customized) yesterday. We have a DSL line with Motorola modem and Cisco Linksys WRT110 router with one Cat5-connect.  For a brief period the Toshiba could access the Internet thru the wireless (I registered the computer and the Norton AntiVirus.) Subsequently I "activated" or allowed the Toshiba to self-install Bluetooth (built in, but, it appears, not listed in the device manager).
Before the afternoon was over I found that the Toshiba, with WiFi antenna "on" effectively killed my Internet connection.  My Dell, which was hardwired thru the Cisco could not get to the Internet; my Mac, which works wirelessly, could not access the Internet.  When I turn the Toshiba's wireless antenna OFF, Internet access to the other two computers is restored within 45-60 seconds. This situation persisted after a "Restore to Factory" procedure this morning, where the Toshiba killed our Internet access during or shortly after the "configuring the desktop" portion of the hour-long restoration.
Another call to, and call-back from, Toshiba tech support resulted in their suggestions that 1) I should see if my computer crashes someone else's Internet connection and 2) that it must be the Cisco.
The Toshiba behaves itself when connected to the Cisco via Cat5 (as long as the wireless antenna is not turned on).
So, Cisco, Do I need a router upgrade to keep the Toshiba from killing my Internet connection?

If your new computer is running windows 7, disable IPv6 under LAN properties for both the wired and wireless adapters.  Reboot computer and connect again.

  • Unable to connect to home network using a Linksys WRT110 router

I recently had to upgrade from a Linksys G router to a new router--the Linksys WRT110.  I was able to connect to the WiFi using my Palm TX prior to doing a firmware update to the Linksys WRT110.  Now, my Palm TX doesn't even recognize that there is a network.  I put the network name in manually and it still won't connect.  I don't know what else to do!  Incidentally, my home computer and my laptop connect to the router wirelessly just fine.  I appreciate any help that i can get to enable me to use my WiFi on my Palm TX at home.
    Thanks.

  • Linksys WRT110 Wireless Router

I need to setup my Linksys WRT110 wireless router for  wireless use as well as a router between my cable modem and my desktop PC. So far, I cannot find any documentation on how this is done or if it is possible at all. When I called Linksys support they told me it can be done and provided me with a link to the instructions, however, they did not work. Does anyone know if this is possible? I need to setup in order to work from home and I cannot use a wireless connection to my cable modem but I need a router between my desktop PC and my cable modem. Oh, by the way, I have a new HP desktop which is running Windows 7.  I would appreciate any help someone can lend me.  Thank you. SHH

From what i read on your post looks like your trying to use your wrt110 as a wireless access point and you want to still use your router near your modem.
To do this what you have to do is disable your wrt110 as a dhcp server since your other router near your is acting as the dhcp server.
So what you do is hook a cable to your wrt110 in port 1. type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your internet explorer. For now this 192.168.1.1 number will get you into the wrt110 until you change it to 192.168.1.5  under setup you will see 2 areas. Under the ip address type in 192.168.1.5 so this make your wrt110 have this ip address.
Below that you will see DHCP server setting disable this. So your wrt110 will not act as the dhcp server it will act as a wireless access point.
Now if you type 192.168.1.1 in your web brower that will open the configuration screen of the router next to your modem. Which that dchp server setting will be enabled.
So basically from your modem your first router will route the signal from the modem thru the router to the computers hooked to it. then say you run a cable from that router to the wrt110.So basically your just uplinking to the wrt110. only thing is your wrt110 will have to act as a access point instead of a router.
Your main router configuration screen to get into it. you would type 192.168.1.1 in your brower after you setup your wrt110 an disable the dhcp server and set the ip to 192.168.1.5 when you type this number  the 105 number in your browser it will go into the web config screen of the wrt110
So to access the web config screens of both routers they will have different numbers.
1st router by your modem will be 192.168.1.1
2nd wirless one will be 192.168.1.5 which you changed when you when in and disable it as a dhcp server since your 1st router by your modem acts as the dhcp server.
Hopefully this will help. I know it does get a little confusing been there and done that more then once.  If not call linksys on the phone tell them what products you have and how you want it to work they will walk you thru it.
My setup in my home from my modem it connects to a 4 port router, then from there to a 24 port switch then uplinks with a Power over Ethernet adapter which sends power thru this little adapter over the brown pair in the cable so you dont need a electrical outlet where you put your wireless access point/router. Then from my switch it uplinks with that POE to a Wrt110 upstairs in my home. I know what a pain this can be i've call them more then once to get mine setup and working.
    GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS

  • Linksys WRT110 keeps disconnecting

I have a Linksys WRT110 and it worked fine for about the first year or so, but recently it has been intermittenly droping the signal to the point of no connection at all. Is there an update or anything I can do about this? I contacted tech support, and conveniently since my warranty is up I have to pay for their help with this...
(Mod note: Off topic remarks removed. Thanks!)

It would drop it when I was using my iPhone and when my wife used her laptop. It was very intermittent and never stayed offline for the same amount of time. Sometimes it would be less than a minute, sometimes more. Occasionally I had to turn wifi off on my phone, then turn it back on just to get the wifi going again.
It was dropping the wired connection a few months back, but it got solved on here. Had to to a complete reset.

  • My iPad will no longer connect to my Linksys wireless router.  Every other electronic device in our house connects just fine.  What can I do?

I have an iPad (the earliest version) that used to connect to my Linksys wireless router with no difficulty.  One night recently I could not get on the internet through my iPad.  I checked the Wi-Fi information, which said it was not connected. When I go through the process of choosing a network, on which my home system is clearly listed along with a very strong signal strength, I am told that my iPad is unable to join my own network.  All the other electronic devices in our house are connected and functioning fine.  Can anyone walk me through the steps to correct this problem?
I need to add that I took my iPad to the Appple store, and the clerk there reset something--I don't know what--and my iPad was able to connect to their network.  When I came home, though, I was not able to connect to my home network.

If everything else is connecting with no issues, I would go into the wifi setting on the iPad and redo the info there, user, password and anything else related to your wifi at your house.
It is possible whatever he reset may have reset something to default setting which will not allow it to connect. If you need too then verify the wifi setting by comparing it with another device setting that works on your home network.
    Good luck

  • Connecting itouch via Linksys wireless router

My itouch connects to my Linksys router but cannot log on to the internet ("server not found"}. My macbook connects fine and my itouch connects to other servers without problem. DNS, router # all are displayed on the DHCP panel and look fine. Any ideas??

I'll repeat some steps to try that I posted in another thread ... some of these you may have done, but take note of #4, that's what bit me and I don't see that posted anywhere else.
1- Turn on SSID broadcast if it is turned off. Your Touch needs to see the network in order to connect for the first time. You may be able to turn SSID broadcast off at the end, if you feel its necessary.
2- Check the encryption type you're using (WEP or WPA) and whatever security code is being used. Make a note of that.
3- Check to see if you have MAC Address filtering enabled. If so, disable it temporarily.
4- Check to see if your router is set to only issue a maximum number of IP addresses. It bugged me for a long time why I could randomly get on my network sometimes, but not always. Turned out that my router was issuing a max of 4 IP addresses and when my Touch couldn't connect, it was because the max had been reached!
5- Now see if your Touch sees your network ID. If so, select it and enter the passcode from step 2.
6- If you're able to get on your network, check to see that your router sees the MAC Address of your Touch. Make a note of that address and add it to the MAC Address filter if you're going to turn it back on (see step 3).
7- (optional) Change your home network to use Open DNS (http://www.opendns.com/), which has nothing to do with your Touch's ability to connect to your home network, but has some nice security and administrative features.

  • Vizio smart Tv won't stay connected to my linksys e1200 while playing Netflix

I have a Vizio Smart TV and just over the last couple of days I cannot seem to get it to stay connect to my Linksys e1200 router.  I will start a movie on Netflix and it will play for about 10 minutes and then disconnect.  I talked to somebody in Cisco Linksys Customer support and they said that the problem had something to do with IP Addresses.  I have no idea what he was talking about.  All I know is last week I could watch an entire movie without losing connection and this week it only stays connect for 10 minutes and then I have to turn the TV off to re-connect.
    Ideas?
    Thanks

Umman, is your Smart TV wirelessly connected to the router? There may be an interfering wireless signal in the area that interrupts the connection. Try changing the router's wireless channels to avoid interference.
Here's an article that may help.

  • I have an ipad first generation.  I am trying to connect to a linksys router and it is not finding the wireless network.  what do i need to do?

I have an ipad first generation.  I am trying to connect to a linksys router and the ipad is not finding the wireless network.  What do I need to do?  Thanks for your help.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Can I use the time capsule connected to my linksys wireless hub

I just bought the Time Capsule to use as storage and use my printer remotely. I already have at home a Linksys wireless hub, can I use both, the Time Capsule, and the Linksys ? With the Capsule connected to the Linksys.

I just bought the Time Capsule to use as storage and use my printer remotely. I already have at home a Linksys wireless hub
So, you want to use the Time Capsule only as a backup device and continue to use the Linksys router for your wireless network, is that correct?
If yes, are you able to connect the Time Capsule to the Linksys router using an Ethernet cable?

  • [SOLVED] How to Connect to a Linksys Switch

Does anyone know how I can connect to a linksys ethernet switch? It seems dhcp isn't working....

tony5429 wrote:Sorry; I was in a hurry when I posted the question. The switch is not connected to the internet. I tried connecting to it the way I've always connected to routers in the past - using the network daemon during boot-up. But this time it failed - I think I got a dhcp timeout notification. In my /etc/rc.conf I have eth0="dhcp" and INTERFACES=(eth0). I also tried using WICD which I have installed on the computer (it's a laptop with a wifi chip) by enabling the wicd daemon, disabling the network daemon and blacklisting the eth0 interface; but when WICD tried to connect to the switch, I got an error saying it was unable to acquire an IP address. Please correct me if I am wrong but I suspect this all means I am going to need to specify my own static IP address as the switch is not going to assign one to me automatically. If that is the case, how do I go about specifying my own IP address? Thanks!!
As mentioned by arkham, switches operate at Layer 2, which isn't aware of IP addresses (Layer 3). So if this is actually a switch (not a router) then no, you won't be able to get a DHCP lease from it since it's not running a DHCP server.
If there's nothing else on your network acting as a DHCP server, which it doesn't sound like there is, then you'll need to set a static IP.
    # Use 'ifconfig -a' or 'ls /sys/class/net/' to see all available interfaces.
    # Interfaces to start at boot-up (in this order)
    # Declare each interface then list in INTERFACES
    #   - prefix an entry in INTERFACES with a ! to disable it
    #   - no hyphens in your interface names - Bash doesn't like it
    # DHCP:     Set your interface to "dhcp" (eth0="dhcp")
    # Wireless: See network profiles below
    eth0="eth0 10.16.1.175 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 10.16.1.255"
    INTERFACES=(eth0)

  • AIR-AP1141N connected to Cisco linksys E1200

Does anyone know if it possible to get dhcp service to an AP1141N when it is connected to  > Cisco Linksys E1200 > cable modem?
The AP gets an IP for the BVI1 interface, the client associates but I get no IP assigment for the client.
    What am I missing?
You may be wondering why I am doing this considering that the linksys is already wireless router. It is just a test to see if it possible. The linksys provides IP's and internet access just fine when the AP is not in the mix.

At one time I had a netgear wireless router and I was able to make this work. I replaced the netgear with the cisco linksys E1200 and now I cannot get it to work.
Attached is the AP config that I used when the netgear was in use.
The only think that is different now is that the IP addr that is assigned to the BVI1 interface.
The default gate on the netgear was the same as you see here.
