Connecting to a network printer?

My work only provides support for Windows and I want to figure out how to connect my Mac Pro to the network so I can print from it to the designated network printer. It is already connected to the network for Internet, though it does not seem to print when I try. How can I set it up to print to the networked printer?
Thanks!

The browser icon is in the toolbar of Printer Setup Utility. When you "Add" the printer you will have to select a printer driver from the drop down menu unless one is selected automatically.
There are no built-in drivers for Dell printers. Drivers are provided in OS X for a variety of printer manufacturers and models, but Dell does not make printers. Either Dell may provide a driver for Macs (unlikely) or you will need to find out what the real make and model of the printer is in order to get the correct printer driver.
You will have to talk with your System Admin to determine if the printer is installed as an IP printer and find out its IP address. Your System Admin may also be able to help you with the installation on your computer.
You can also use the PSU Help from the PSU's Help menu for more assistance on installing a printer.

    Hi @OHIMATAS,
I see by your post that you are unable to network the printer to the Windows XP computer, but the Windows 7 computer is connected. I can help you with this.
Make sure the Windows XP computer is connected to the correct network name, not a Guest network either.
Print a configuration page to get the printer's IP address.
    Printing a Configuration Page.
Try and access the printer's Embedded Web Server on the Windows XP computer.
Type the IP address into your web browser's address bar. (Internet Explorer)
    Did it load the webpage?
If you can't access the printer's EWS, then check the IP address on the computer to see if the first 3 sets of numbers match the printer's IP. They have to match to be on the same network.
Go to start, type run in the search box, type in cmd, then type ipconfig.
    Check the IPV4 address.
Now check the IPV4 address for the printer.
Do the first 3 sets of numbers match?
    Try and ping the printer.
In the same window, type ping printers IP address (space between ping and IP address)
    What are the results?
Run the add printer wizard through printers and faxes, if you were able to access the printer's EWS.
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.
    Have a nice day!

  • Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

Connect to a network printer for air print, after disconnect from the wifi iphone keep pop up a message saying the printer is offline. How do I disable this annoying message?

    Hey ronniefai,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are receiving a prompt that your printer is offline. This may be due to a printing job that is currently in the queue. Are you able to see the print summary when following these steps?:
    Viewing the Print Summary
You can view the Print Summary by double-tapping the Home button and swiping to the right to reveal Printer Center. Then tap Print Center.
Note: Print Center is available only while printing is in progress.
    via AirPrint Basics
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If so, see if you can cancel the job. If not, what happens when you re-connect to the network that the printer is on?
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Can't Connect to My Network Printer Anymore: Brother 7065-DN

I bought my Macbook Pro in 2010 and never had a problem connecting to my home network printer until a few months ago. Ever since I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion 10.8.5 I can't see or access the network printer. My daughter, who bought her Macbook Pro at the beginning of the year, pre installed with Mountain Lion, has no issues seeing and printing to the printer. I tried reinstalling the driver from my disk and it wouldn't take. I tried downloading the Brother driver from Apple and the specific driver's and updates for my printer, nothing. When I am lucky enough to see it on the printer list, it won't print, saying that the printer cannot be located. I have tried (when it does see it, which is random and weird) using the IP address and then the driver from the list, I also tried using the post script general. I have tried adding the IP address of the printer in the printer set up, I have tried adding the MAC address, I've tried clicking it when it occasionally shows up under my work group. I tried installing it while it was connected directly to the laptop...Nothing....I've turned on printer sharing, file sharing, and anything else I can think of...I am at a loss!
The two Windows PC and the other Macbook in the house can connect via the network, no problem. I even tried to look at her settings to see what was different but I couldn't figure it out. What is really frustrating is that I am working on my degree and need to print regularly, so everyone else in the house has to stop what they are doing, open the file I sent them through e-mail, download it, and then print it. It irritates them and me!
I have a standard router n/b/g and a comcast modem. One desk top and three laptops connected to it. Internet access works fine. Printer is a Laser Jet all in one scanner/printer Brother 7065-DN. I have downloaded all the updated drivers from Apple and Brother. Someone please help!! I am going crazy and wasting a lot of time messing with this that could be better spent on my homework!! Like I said, it worked fine until the upgrade!!

  • Officejet 6600 All But One Laptop Can Connect To Wireless Network Printer

One windows and 2 macs can connect to the wireless printer over the newtwork just fine  but one (Windows 7) will not. HP Print and Scan Doctor can discover the printer from that laptop as "visible"  but repeatedly says " need to install full software" which I've done, and after, it  runs install wizzard reports, the IP address I've entered is wrong, which it's not. Firewalls are off.  I've un and re installed, tried windows add device which can't connect either. I've had this problem before with this laptop but just can't remember how I fixed it. I remember getting to a screen that offered the option of installing over a nework or wireless directly to the printer and over the network fixed it, but I can't remember how I got there. Any ideas as I'm at wits end. Thanks

Welcome to the forums @Davidchicago ,
I read through your post about the installation troubles you are having with one of your Windows 7 computers and your Officejet 6600. I am here to let you know what my suggestion is for you!
There could be a program blocking the installation and causing the problem. I'd recommend a Clean Boot, restarting your PC, disabling your firewall and running through the installation again.
Hopefully that will get you through the install. Let me know the results!

  • Connecting usb to networked printer

Officejet Pro Plus 8600,  Win 7 HP
Printer works very well networked.  How can I connect a USB cable to use the USB  port without the printer defaulting to USB connection?

HP printers support simultaneously USB connection and a network connection.   The printer should function on the wireless network without affecting the USB connection.
Is there a problem doing this?
Do you get any error messages?
Is the printer being connected to the same computer with a USB and wireless connection?  If so, the computer determines which connection is default.  What operating system does the computer use?

  • MBPr 15 2013 with 10.9.4 can't connect to a network printer

One of my users is having an issue connecting to our network printers (Ricoh 5502a) at the office with a MBP retina 15" on 10.9.4 with the latest printer drivers etc. installed.  She is set up on one printer that we set up a while ago and it prints no problems.  However she moves around the office a lot and needs to be able to print to other printers.  When we try to add another one of the printers it finds the printer with the IP, it auto-detected the driver, then when I click next, I get an error stating there was an "error connecting to the printer would you continue anyway?"  I would try to continue and it states it is connected to the printer and it seems fine.  We try to print but the queue just continuously pauses and nothing gets sent to the printer.  This issue is only happening with her system every other mac user on our network has no issue adding the printer including me.  Please help!

This could be a result of the protocol you selected. IPP is the default listed. If you remove this printer and add again, but this time change the protocol drop menu to HP Jetdirect-Socket, see if this works better for the user.

  • Can't connect to a networked printer - Airlink101 USB Print Server

I am new to Mac. I am trying to connect my iMac to a Brother HL-5040 laser printer through an Airlink101 USB print server over my wireless network. The iMac connected to the 802.11g network immediately without any issues which is more than I can say for the other XP machines I own. I have several other Windows PC's networked and they all print just fine. Using the print setup utility, I can find the networked print server and add it to the printer list; however, I can not print. The status monitor indicates that it can't connect. The install directions on the Airlink101 website for the Mac does not seem to match the options that are part of the "add a printer" utilility. Any help would be appreciated.

  • How do I connect an ethernet network printer?

I'm trying to connect to an ethernet printer (Xerox WorkCentre 7428) on my LAN using a new Airport Extreme. I've tried connecting the ethernet cable via a switch, and also connecting directly into the ethernet ports on the Airport with no success.

From Xerox's manual for that printer:
To see the IP address of the printer, press the Machine Status button on the printer control panel. The IP address is displayed on the left of the touch screen.
    More from Xerox's support site:
Solution : Configure the Printer to Automatically Obtain an IP Address (From a DHCP Server) From the Control Panel
Login as the System Administrator or Key Operator. See the Related Items below for additional information.
Press the [Machine Status) button on the control panel.  The Machine Status tab will be displayed on the Touch Screen.
    Select the [Tools] tab.
    Select the [System Settings] button.
Select the [Connectivity and Network Settings] option from the Group section.
Select the [Protocol Settings] option from the Features section.
Select [IPv4- IP address Resolution], and then select the [Change Settings] button.
Select [DHCP], and then select the [Save] button.
    Select the [Close] button.
Press the [Log In / Out] button on the Control Panel. A "Do you want to reboot the machine now for settings to take effect?" message will be displayed.
Select the [Reboot Now] button on the Touch Screen.
Assigning the printer a static IP address (that is, one not assigned using DCHP) consistent with your AirPort Extreme's addressing scheme is preferable for printers. Instructions describing that very fundamental task are annoyingly absent from its manual though. At Step 8 in the above, see if there is an option for a static IP address. Specify one as I described earlier.

  • How do i connect to a network printer or map a network drive?

I have a MacPro on my work network and can only attach to the networked printer via IP address. The printer driver is on the print server and I have a path name but I do not know where in my MAC to input the network path/drive.

First install the printer driver on your Mac.  Then add the printer in System Preferences > Print & Scan.  Beyond that, specific settings for the printer & protocol depend on the printer & network.  You may need to call your helpdesk for assistance.  Exactly what  make/model printer is it, and how is it set up on your network?

  • Problems trying to connect to a network printer

I am logged onto a network over a vpn. I am then trying to connect to the print services. If was using windows the following instructions are given:
"You can print using icsafecom1, if you go to start, run and type in \\icsafecom1 then press ok it should ask you to input you username and password, you should then see a list of printers if you right click on the first printer called ictprintservice mono and say connect it should then connect you to the printers via the vpn. "
Now I have no instructions for how to do this on a iBook. I have tried to connect to the server icsafecom and get to enter my username and password but the get an error (error code -50) and can go no further. I think that this might be a problem with server connections - console gives the following output:

mount_smbfs: No credentials cache found krb5cc_getprincipal

mount_smbfs: no share specified for ig05@ICSAFECOM1
I have also tried to connect to the printer via the printer setup options but it is not clear how to do this either.
Does anyone have any ideas about the problem as the support staff here are not mac literate!
    Many thanks.

  • Trying to connect to a network printer but can't

Ok, I am new to the iMac world but I'm loving it so far.
    Frustrating but I'm learning.
I just about have everything working just right on my network with my PC's except for printing.
My mac can see the printers, I have them in my list, when I go to print my printer starts but then only prints out a one liner then shoots out blanks and won't stop unless I cancel the print job.
So, I know they can see each other i'm just wondering why what I want to print won't.
    Any ideas out there??
    Thanks!!

I had the same problem. I spent hours on the phone with apple techs and canon tech. It is a driver issue. Neither Apple nor the printer manufacturers include or support drivers for network sharing printers between mac and pc. I did some research online and there is a lot of discussion on various tech boards about this compatibilty issue. For example:
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=54466
Ultimately, I downloaded and installed the Printfab suite of drivers which probably has a driver that will work for you. Go to www.Printfab.net You can use a full version in a 30 day free trial period so you can see if it works, then it costs about $50.
This is the only fix I've found. Hope that helps!

  • Having network printer connection problems using a Macbook Pro

I hope a "greater mind" can suggest a solution to the following problem:
Up until 2 days ago, I was successfully connected to the network printer at my office using both my Macbook Pro at work and at home (both wirelessly, OS 10.6.8). From yesterday, however, I now only receive the following message when I send a file for printing: "network host (and then its IP address) is busy. Will try again in 10 seconds."
All right, my system admin. advised me to re-install the printer on both computers.  I did. In printer set-up, 1) Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD; 2) Address: the IP address of the printer; 3) Queue: secinmac. This is the queue name specifically for Mac use and given to us by the company who installed our network printer; 4) Name: we use the printer's IP address; 5) Location: left blank; 6) Print Using: Generic PCL Laser Printer. Further for 6), in the "installable options" dialog box, I click "Duplexer". Then, finally, I click "ADD". The printer is added.
However, when I try to print a file, I continue to get the "busy" message.  The file spools for about 3%, and then the "busy message" appears, and I cannot print.  You can imagine how frustrating this is when the problem has arisen from one day to the next!  A colleague who also uses a MacBook Pro sent a file to print on the network printer today, and he had no problems!  I, however, have no success !
Any ideas that can help me?  Thanks, in advance!

Thank you for taking the time to respond.
Yes, I tried this when I was reading a bit of Apple communities history on this matter, and it did not work.  I also tried this, and then rebooted my Mac, but to no avail!  While I was at the office today, my system admin also logged into our network and tried to get something to print on his Mac, but he now has the same problem as I do.
He gets the "busy message", too !
I'll try to see if I can get a solution from APPLE by going through my support service agreement.....From reading the history on this issue, I would have thought that APPLE would have worked on this to come up with a fix by now...!
Thank you again for your suggestion!  Cheers.
