Connecting to a Smart board.

I would like to buy an ipad2 and use it for my job. I need to connect it to a Smart board to use it interactive and to show some PowerPoint presentations. So far I have only used  Windows7. Do you know if it is possible to use iPad2  for this. Does the PowerPoint presentations with animations from Office and Windows7 match with Apple iPad2's software. The next question is to use a Smart Board I need to download on my computer a SmartBoard software, can I download it too to an iPad2?

Absolutely!
Install Splashtop2 on the PC and enable it to be controlled or ran from iPad or Reflection to simply allow iPad to serve as PC unwired monitor. With Splashtop and an Apple TV connected, you use the smartboard as usual, yet the PC and iPad can see the same content. The impaired child can even interact with the Smart Board via the iPad as if he were writing directly on the big screen. Erasing functions can be done by touching the Smart Board manual controls. Several variables are in play that cause this lack of functionality:
Apple won't permit PC software that infringes its proprietary apps.
Smart Board companies refuse to develop iPad apps because they feel threatened and are being replaced by iPads
School districts think Apple TV is meant for copyright infringement and could expose them to safe harbor lawsuits
Network administrators make it impossible to login Apple TVs because they don't want the streaming occurring
Classrooms are not able to keep up with the technology of using the iPad
Clicker companies refuse to play with iPad because they see it as a potential threat to their core business clients
Apple is not working as hard as it could to exploit its capabilities in education, thus losing money in iPad sales
The bottom line is that we educators and technology developers are hurting our childern with petty conflicts.

  • How do I connect my iPad to a smart board

I Would like to know how I connect my iPad to my smart board

We use a program called Reflector on our MacBook Pros to wirelessly mirror our iPad display to the computer, which is connected to the classroom projector. So the image from the iPad shows on the board via the computer. You could also use an Apple TV, but Reflector is cheaper... and its likely that you have a computer already connected to your smart board.
    Hope this helps!

  • Could one use a y VGA splitter to connect an ipad to a computer and a smart board that is connected to it?

Could a person connect an ipad to a computer and a smart board that is connected to it by using a y VGA splitter?

I use a program called Reflector to wirelessly display my iPad onto my Mac. To take it a step further, I connect my computer to a projector so that my iPad screen can be displayed via projector to a screen or smart board on the wall. Much cheaper than buying an Apple TV to do this.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Thunderbolt to VGA Adapter not working with SMART board all of a sudden?

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on getting my classroom's (I'm student teaching) SMART board connected to my macbook pro (13 in).  Two days ago I tested the setup I had, Mini-DVI to VGA adapter, Mac OS X SMART software suite and it worked flawlessly.  Today I try the setup and although the SMART board recognizes my macbook via usb, the projector does not display anything.  System preferences does not even recognize the projector as an external monitor.  When I plug in my Mini-DVI to VGA adapter (already attached to the VGA cord from the SB) the screen flashes black and goes back to normal.  Official work from SMART technologies is there is no supported adapters for connecting a macbook to a SB but I have seen numerous threads about this setup working and like I said it was previously working fine. Any suggestions on what to try next? I was thinking of dual booting to an older version of OS X. Thanks.
    Specs:
    MacBook Pro 13 in
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    10.9.1

If your laptop is not connected to power (i.e., plugged in to a wall), try plugging it in.  It is not uncommon for a laptop to send the VGA signal out with less power when it is on battery power.  I've seen this fix this problem, at least, dozens of times.
Try connecting the VGA cable to your adapter while the smart board display is on THEN plug the adapter in to your computer.
Also, try connecting the VGA+Adapter to your mac before booting it (or connect the macbook to the vga cable and then reboot the macbook).  I've seen this work with macbooks using vga on projectors (or other external displays running through longer cables or crestron/extron/whatever switching equipment) many many times too.
If these fail, get your campus AV (or IT) people involved.  We have often found that a damaged cable or long run needing amplification will work with some computers but not with others.  It could be that the cable running from the smart board is somewhat sketchy.
Also, have you attempted to connect your macbook to any other display since starting to have the issue?  A bad dongle (dp to vga adapter) isn't rare.  I have a bad one sitting on my desk at this very moment.
One last thing you can try, this works for some:
    Shut of the mac
Connect it to the smart board (i.e, connect the cables)
Turn on the mac and then close the lid
This *may* boot the computer on the external dispaly (smart board)
Open the lid before it comes to the login screen.
Hopefully one of these suggestions helps.

  • Best way to use Apple TV/iPad/Smart board

Not sure I can explain this well as when it comes to wi-fi or home sharing, I'm completely lost.  But here is what I am doing now and what I need to improve.
I have a smart board at school - no HDMI.  So, I connect my Apple TV (3rd gen) to VGA adaptor and the digital sound to a adaptor box for analog sound.
Presently I send, wirelessly, videos or music from my ipad or iphone to the Apple TV from itunes using mirroring.  Sorta works, but I often have hesitations.  Strangely, this seems to happen more with music than videos!
The wi-fi is part of the school network, but the router is in another room and has to pass through two concrete brick walls to get to me.  Maybe that's the problem, or maybe it is something else, but I'd like to find a solution.
I assume there is no way to connect to the Apple TV without some sort of wifi setup so, I considered creating my own network (which I know nothing about).  While it would be nice to have internet access, I can get by without it.
I just bought a new Time Capsule so my old one is available.  I will soon be buying a new Apple computer so, if needed, my late 2008 Macbook will be available.
I updated to Mavericks and see there is an Apple Server app for $20 in the store.  That's not a problem if that is the only software I need, assuming the MB is needed at all.
I figure with everything in the same room, my own intranet would solve my problem.  As long as I can send stuff from the ipad/iphone to the Apple TV wirelessly, that is fine.  If I can ALSO sometimes access the internet, that's better but not necessary.  Sending stuff to the Apple TV from the MB would be another plus, but it would be nice if I didn't have to use the MB at all unless I found that convenient.  If I do use the MB, then it would be a plus to be able to access the time capsule HD - not for backup, but for normal storage.
Hope I explained that well enough, since all this is "magic" to me!
Maybe we can start with what I need (computer? Apple's server software?) and move into the details of how to set it all up.
Or maybe home sharing will do the job without needing some things?

Would a cable like this work?
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002JFN10/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATV PDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=1G2GFK86TT1191BT7EQH&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470 938811&pf_rd_i=507846
Or do I need to buy the actuall converter box first? Also, does anyone have any personal experience with having to use a setup like this with an Apple TV?

  • Mac Mini mouse freezes when connected to interactive white board

Our school district has several Mac Mini's (OS 10.4.11) connected to interactive white boards (Smart). With regularity the mouse and/or keyboards will "freeze", often in the lower left hand corner of the screen, and will only operate normally when the USB cord for the Smartboard is disconnected. Then all functions of the computer return. This effectively means that the interactive whiteboard is no longer useful. Has anyone else encountered these issues with Macminis? Could it be a software issue??
Additionally I have had constant problems with our Mac minis "freezing" in our computer lab when students are working on them. If they have several applications open this happens regularly. Are these machines prone to freezing?

Yes sounds like you already know the answer. I'd contact Smart or whomever makes this whiteboards to see if they know about compatibility with the macmini's you use.
As far as being prone to freezing no I've not seen any long or lengthy threads about freezing or other such complaints around here so I don't think so.
I've had my mini for almost a year now and push it pretty hard and find it almost impossible to make it freeze, reboot, lockup or any such thing myself.

  • Does anyone know a way to use the iPad with the smart board and have the smart board be interactive?

Have amny teachers who would like to use ipad apps on the smart board. However as there is no USB port there is no way to connect the ipad to the smart board and have it be interactive.

You need some EQ, whether its on a mixer in between the mic and the mac or in software is up to you. Start at the Blue Microphone forums.
And the closer you get to the mic the more enhancement of the lower tones will happen, leave lipstick on it for Marlene Dietrich

  • Internal camera no longer working on multiple Mac Book Pros after updating to 10.8.5. with third party software. (Smart Board, Bridgit ) Camera does work with Skype.

I have several Mac Book Pros that I am responsible for.  They will no longer recognize the camera in SmartBoard and in Smart Bridgit since updating to 10.8.5. One of the machines is even running 10.9 and it still won't work.  I have teachers who are very frustrated because they wish to use the Bridgit Software in their classrooms. Skype appears to be working fine.  It is just the Smart Board Software.

    Hey there MelAllen,
It sounds like you need help troubleshooting the built in camera on some of the computers there. I want to recommend the troubleshooting steps outlined in this article named:
    How to Troubleshoot iSight
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2090
    Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Playing Sound Locks SMART Board Software

Several teachers at our school just got new Lenovo T520's with 64-bit Windows 7.  We have SMART Board Interactive Whiteboards and run SMART Notebook software.  When sound is played by this program, the program locks.  I have been in contact with SMART Technologies, but we cannot tell what is going on. This is what we know:
    - sound works on other programs
    - Conexant audio drivers are up to date
    - the SMART Notebook program works on other machines
        - on our other Lenovo's (T510 32-bit Win 7)
        - some other 64-bit Win 7 machines, various manufactures
    - disabling sound enhancements doesn't keep the program from locking
    - generic Windows sound drivers don't keep the program from locking
SMART Tech suspects something with audiodg.exe, but we can't figure it out.
I don't know if anyone on these forums uses SMART Board, but I thought I'd ask for general suggestions as we are clueless.  any help would be appreciated.

Yes, we got this problem resolved on our computers. I don't know if it's the same on yours, but for us it was that our Lenovo's came pre-loaded with Corel Win DVD.  This program has codecs that contain errors.  It affected other program as well.  Linked sound in PowerPoint would not play either.  That may be the same issue you are having with your pdf files.
I suggest you uninstall any program from Corel or ULead as it uses the same codecs.
So the bug turned out to be neither from SMART or Lenovo, but from a third company who's programs just happened to be present.  This was long and difficult to sort out, but had some great help from SMART Tech.  You can follow the tread at the SMART Exchange Forum, which I suggest you join, if you have not already.

Interesting, I registered my Corel software DVD software which was suppose to allow me to get updates etc. However, the service packs they have for it are not allowed for the OEM versions. Clearly there are updates but we cannot install them when downloaded from Corel. I flags the version is not supported.
I suppose the solution is to purge the Corel software and invest in supported software which can be patched. The release installed is not the latested and they don't provide updates directly. It must be maddening that this is the case of your grief.

can i connect my sony smart TV via thunderbolt port for better resolution.

You can connect the TV via the Thunderbolt port. However if the result is "better resolution" would depend on what resolution you have now (I'm guessing you mean with the HDMI adapter?)
I'm myself connecting the Mini Mac with a Thunderbolt->VGA adapter to my TV and get full 1920x1080 resolution.
Have you checked your Display settings? Make sure mirroring is off, then check what resolutions you can get on the current connection.
Please return with some more data.

    Silvia-
I'm not familiar with a Smart Board.  Hopefully someone will come along who is.  I suggest you contact the Smart Board's manufacturer and see if they know of an iPad App that would help you.
There are four video interfaces available for the iPad:  HDMI, VGA, Component and Composite.  If the Smart Board can accept one of these formats, it may solve your problem.

  • Can I view the smart board display on an iPad

My daughter is vsually challenged and is not able to read the teachers notes on the smartboard.  It is my hope that I can assist the school in setting up a link between the ipad and the smartboard so that my daughter can view the smart board display on her ipad.  In this way she would hopefully be able to see what the rest of hte class sees and would have the option to pinch and zoom, etc.  Any guideance in trying to solve this problem would be appreciated.
I have read many articles on how to mirror the ipad on the smartboard or control the smartboard from the ipad but that is not my intent.  I would invision that my daughters ipad would simply be a duplicate screen of what the teacher places on the board.  It could be the teachers handwritten notes, a document, a picture, or a movie....
I look forward to any suggestions.

Different smartboards work differently.  I suspect your fastest route to finding any answers is to find out what smartboard system the school is using and contact the manufacturers.

    I beg to differ.
You can use a regular keyboard with the camera connection kit, I have been using one for more than a year.
The proviso is that you do not get any of the functions of a cursor or the back / forward keys but these functions  can easily be carried out by using the touchscreen. I find it a lost easier to write long documents using a usb keyboard as I am used to touch typing so an external keyboard is a  lot faster than using the iPad screen.
