Connecting to a stereo sys.

Im new here so bear with me, is there a device to connect my powerbook to my home stereo system to listen to Itunes??
I have a 3year old Yamaha RXV520 reciever.
any suggestions would be a help.

Any place will have the Y-cable.
Radio Shack may have an optical cable, though you might have better luck at Best Buy or the like. Just make sure it has a mini-toslink end, and a toslink end. some cables come with mini-toslink adapters, which would be fine as well.
If you want a long optical cable though, you will be better off ordering online, as brick and mortar retailers will charge a lot for anything over six feet, if they even carry anything longer.
Probably time to pick up the phone and call around if you want to buy it locally.

Connection to Car Stereo

I have an ipod connection into my car stereo in my Infiniti. I was hoping to replace my ipod with my Blackberry Storm and be able to play it through my stereo system. Is there a cable that will fit my car connection and the Storm?

First, I don't know what type of connection your car stereo has, but as for me, I am using a simple male 3.5mm to RCA jack cable (See link below) for my car and it works wonderfully.

Connecting iMac to stereo receiver

I am trying to figure out the best way to connect my iMac to a stereo receiver. Which option will result in superior sound on my home stereo: (1) running a TOSLINK cable from the iMac's optical digital audio out port to the receiver's optical input or (2) connecting the iMac to the receiver using a USB DAC?

I do not agree. The headphone amp outputs a conventional two channel analog signal on the multi-purpose 3.5 mm audio output jack on all Intel iMacs. But that same jack outputs a digital optical signal if the iMac senses a mini-Toslink adaptor plug has been inserted instead of an analog stereo TRS (tip ring sleeve) plug.
IOW, the same jack furnishes two entirely different kinds of output (analog or digital) depending on what is plugged into it. The digital output encodes the audio (which could consist of multiple channels of audio) on a single beam of digitally modulated light. The analog output is two separate signals, each on its own electrical conductor, derived from the internal DAC in the iMac & amplified by the amp to provide enough power to drive headphones.
It is possible that the amp does double duty to also drive the light source for the digital output, but that is in no way is comparable to using it to drive headphones -- for the digital output all it would have to do is switch the light level between the digital high & low states.
My guess is that whoever told you about the headphone amp either did not know about the dual function of the jack or thought you were talking about an analog connection to your stereo.

IPad is connected to a stereo installation - no control of the volume by the iPad

When my iPad is connected to a stereo installation, there is no possibility anymore to control the volume by the iPad.

This issue manifests as The volume control shows sound effects on screen or phantom docking no volume slide control.
For the beginners, the issue is often the side switch is set to mute on off and not screen rotation lock. The switch is off. (see settings)
Other issues around software and airport use can be resolved by hard reset, or reset options inside the settings. I use AIRPORT all the time.
You may have even tried the re-installing the firmware/ios
So when all has failed to work, the you may have dock connector PIN 21 problem.
I had an issue that started with the ipad whe it was on USB cable to PC.
No drop, no sudden cable movements. Just gone....
No volume slider. IPAD behaves as if it was docked when not.
Slight movement when usb cable is in occasionally brings the volume control back but only for a few seconds then it disappears.
Mine is going back for repair/replacement.

On the iPad you can stream videos, photos, or music from the Video, Photos, Music, and YouTube apps to an Apple TV OR just stream music to an AirPort Express Base Station.

ORA-07200 error during connect into system or sys

I have installed ORACLE8i EE on redhat6.2.
Installation was successfull. But when I try
to connect to system or sys user it throws
ORA-07200 Saying sls-sid not defined where as
ORACLE_SID is set in oratab also the database
is up and running.
Can someone provide the solution.

I think u should run netasst from ur bin directory and configure ur listner and connect data properly
Check ur tnsnames.ora and listner.ora in network/admin directory in $ORACLE_HOME , i thnk this should help u out.

I started listener . But finally getting the message as

Glad to hear it is all straightened out. You are right about the upgrade cost. That is one reason why Adobe switched to monthly licensing—no more upgrade cost <g, r, & d>. Of course we do have nearly monthly product upgrades. It is almost like playing whack a mole.

Had a Airport Express connected to my stereo and it was working. I brought an Airport Extreme and suddenly it took over and Airport Express stopped working and disappeared from Airport Utility. What I am supposed to do? ar2ro

I have an Airport Express connected to my stereo and it was working without any problem.
Recently I bought an Airport Extreme to use it as my Base Unit connecting it to my DSL.
I followed the instructions of the Airport Utility, and it started working.
Suddenly, problems started happen the Airport express that was connected to the stereo , stopped working and it disappeared from the Airport Utility area , as it did not exist in the network. I tried to reset it but it did not appear in the Airport Utility page.
Apparently I have other problems with the private network that it created because I cannot use it because of problems with the password that was created. I can only use the network that I created for my guest...
I dont know if my problem is a configuration problem or there is problem with the equipment.
I read that other users where having the same problem with the Airport express , using non apple equipment as their base unit , but I thought that using the Airport Extreme was going to be compatible and no problems would happen.
What should I do?

Common Problem. Common solution.
Connect your Express via ethernet cable to the Mac while other network connections on the Mac are switched OFF.
After the Express shows up, change the settings of the Express to join the existing network. Take the appr. settings.
Unplug and reconnect your Mac to the network.
Check if the Express shows up in Airport Utility
Alternative solution:
Hardreset the Express to factory settings
(while on power push the Pin next to the audio plug with a paperclip. Plug out the Express still holding down the little button then replug the Express to power and release button)
After that, the Express will show up in the Airport Utility.
Make all needed settings.
I would prefer the first solution, its easier just to plug a cat5 cable.

Poor Sound Connected to Home Stereo

I have a 30 GB 5th Gen Video iPod that I connected to my stereo via the headphone jack using the monster cables I bought at the Apple Store. The sounds is not good at all. It's night and day vs. a CD. Is this normal.

Try getting the Apple Universal Dock; the Line Out port reportedly sounds better than the iPod headphone jack (although it really isn't Line Out, since you can adjust the volume with the Apple Remote). If possible use a 2-wire stereo mini-plug cable (or the Monster iTV Link cable which combines a stereo cable and an S-video cable) rather than a 3-wire AV mini-plug cable.
