Connecting to Accessories

I have a 3rd party connection in my car that allows me to play my iPod through the car stereo. With my old 5th generation, I was able to make selections right from the iPod when it was connected to the system through the dock connector. When my iPod hard drive failed, I got a new 160G iPod classic. When I connect this to my car stereo, I can no longer manipulate the iPod from the click wheel, all I get is a grey screen with a yellow connection symbol in the middle of the screen. This becomes a real problem when I'm trying to get back to a point in an Audiobook when it doesn't resume from the last point (another annoying occurrence). Is there a fix to this, or is it just a function of the new version iPod?
Thanks

Just us volunteers here, and sometimes the question is just too hard, too badly described, totally incoherent, impossible to understand, or we just don't know the answer.
I fall into the last category. Unless you are using the same cable for all these accessories... just because they charge the phone doesn't men that all the other functions work - the individual wires that charge migh well be fine while the other wires making up the cable are damaged.

  • Is it possible to connect 2 accessories to an iPad at the same time?

    I use an iPad as a cash register.  I currently have a credit card reader connected to it and I have a bluetooth barcode scanner.  There is a lot of interference with the bluetooth device and so I would like to hard wire the scanner to the iPad as well.  Is there an adapter I can use to plug both devices into one port? I'm not super computer savvy but it seems to me that a device as sophisticated as an iPad ought to be able to handle 2 plug ins.
    Thanks for any help!

    Is your credit card reader wired through the iPad through the charging port or headphone jack?
    As of this moment, there is no dual link that will attach to the charging port that supports both a credit card reader and a barcode scanner.
    If you're having problems with the bluetooth on the barcode scanner, I advise moving any electronics near the iPad, or any obstructions. Also, restart the bluetooth and repairing daily helps. On another note however, depending on what type of bluetooth your iPad aquires, (bluetooth 2.1 for iPad 1 and 2, or bluetooth 4.0 for iPad 3) it can limit the range how far you can use your barcode scanner and how fast it can transmit data. A safe distance in my opinion is between 5-10ft using the scanner or any bluetooth device from your iPad.
    Hope this works!

  • How you connect a monitor to a Macbook Pro?

    Hi guys,
    I'm interested in connecting the Dell U2312HM monitor to my late 2012, non retina version of the Macbook Pro.
    How do I do it? What are the parts that I need to buy?
    Thanks in advance!

    This monitor also has a DisplayPort connection.
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=6099&l=en&sku=320- 2807
    You should be able to use a DisplayPort(u2312hm) to Mini DisplayPort(Mac) cable which would avoid any adapters. I'm not aware of any issues with this method, but I have not tried it yet. My u2312hm is scheduled to arrive on Friday.
    I like mono price for high quality but inexpensive cables.

    what is an accessorize test

    It is a test available in diagnostic mode on your iPod that allows you to test the connection of accessories to the iPod usually it's dock connector port.
    If you need to know how to get out of this mode, you can simply reset the device. To reset the iPod, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Best Macbook for student: MB or MB Air?

    Sorry in advance if this kind of question has been asked before!
    I'm a student looking to buy either a Macbook or Macbook Air and was wondering if people thought the Air was 'future proof' or powerful enough or if the MB is portable enough.
    I've used an Air before but it seems to be a bit sluggish and the fact that the RAM is not upgradeable is a bit of a downside. Having said that, it is obviously very portable and is ideal if carrying around all the time...is the MB light enough to carry around all the time? I'm going to be using this as my main Mac and I don't use any major software like Photoshop etc.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    As a student, I would get the MacBook White. For $999, you get all of the amenities and a standard Superdrive in a compact 5 pounds. I carry my MacBook around with me all the time, and it's very protable.
    Now, if you want a bit more power and a lighter Aluminum case, opt for the new Unibody MacBook. Perfect for carrying around, fast, and with great graphics. Just be wary if you need to use anything with Firewire; the Unibody has no FW port.
    I wouldn't get an Air. Not upgradeable, slow, one USB port, no Ethernet port, no Optical Drive. You'll spend $1799-$1999 on an Air, then $99 if you need an optical Drive, $19 if you need an External Ethernet or Modem, and $30 on a USB hub if you need to connect more accessories. For me, it doesn't make sense when you can get all of this for $1000 in a package only two pounds heavier.
    As a student myself, I'm thinking about replacing my aging 1st generation MacBook with a new MacBook White.
    Best of luck, with whichever MacBook you choose!

  • Standalone java application that calls Db2

    Hi,
    I am trying to use coherence in my standalone java
    application that makes JDBC calls to Db2.
    The sql statemet is like below:
    select lastName,firstName from employee where empNo=2224;
    In the application,I would read from the flat file say
    200 account numbers and query the database.
    If I have queried the database already with the given
    account,I want to retreive from the cache.
    I am having real trouble in getting this work with
    coherence software.
    Any psudo code in this regard will help me a lot.
    Thanks
    DJon

    Hi Jon,
    Thanks for the mail.I am struck in
    implementing the coherence in the sample program.
    any help in this regard is appreciated.
    Thanks
    DJon
    Below is the sample program that works without coherence.go to db2 and get the information.
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class DB2Client
    static void printColumn(String in)
    System.out.print(in);
    System.out.print(" | ");
    public static void main(String[] args)
    Driver myDriver = null;
    Connection myConnection = null;
    try
    myDriver =
    (Driver)Class.forName("com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Driver").newInstance();
    myConnection =
    DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:db2:sample","dujon","jeff");
    PreparedStatement myStatement
    = myConnection.prepareStatement("SELECT
    empno,firstnme,lastname FROM employee where empno > ?");
    myStatement.setString(1,"00");
    ResultSet
    myResults=myStatement.executeQuery();
    while (myResults.next())
    printColumn(myResults.getString("empno") + "");
    printColumn(myResults.getString("firstnme") + "");
    printColumn(myResults.getString("lastname"));
    System.out.println();
    } catch (Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    } finally
    try
    if (myConnection != null)
    myConnection.close();
    } catch (Exception e)
    Now,to implement the above sample with
    coherence I have written 2 programs.

  • PAIR CAMERA, ALARM PANEL WITH ROUTER WITH NO WPS BUTTON

    How about with the Honeywell Lynx 5100 Alarm Control Panels.  Anyone have any experience with these units and connecting premise accessories to them via the HW add-on Wi-fi card?
    We have an L5100-WiFi v4.9.7 adapter card installed in the alarm control panel.. We want to use the wi fi functionality to pair an HW indoor camera to it.
    The camera says our router must support one button WPS in order for it to pair with the Alarm panel via the Wi Fi 2 minute window.
    How do we do this  if the router doesn't support one button WPS?
    Our Verizon router is a M1424revF router

    To get started, is the alarm panel already set up with the Wi-Fi network using a manual setup, such as what is detailed in this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQqvPN36NAk
    There's no WPS support on the FiOS routers (for a good reason too), but you should still be able to get the camera manually connected to the network. If you could give a camera model number we'll see if we can help. Most cameras that I've seen have an Ethernet port, which is often used to connect the camera up with a wired connection, or to access the camera so that wireless can be configured manually instead of via WPS.

  • Can iPhone 4S and iPad 4th gen exchange files through Bluetooth

    I m trying to connect my iPhone 4S with my iPad 4th Gen through Bluetooth , but they won't detect each other. Read a comment by someone in the apple forums that Bluetooth in iPhone and iPad are only for connecting with accessories. Is this true or is there a way to connect the two devices and exchange files

    There are a few third-party apps, in the app store, that permit photo sharing by bluettoth & game playing, but that's about it. File transfer, by bluetooth, has never been supported on any iOS device. There are apps that permit such using WiFi though.

  • Booklet 3g connections accessories

    so, i have this booklet 3g with HD out on the HDMI!
    unfortunately, for the moment, i am not aware of any projector units that are using HDMI and cannot connect my booklet 3g to do power point projectors for business.....meaning that i still have to take my older netbook to use.
    i would have thought that bestbuy would have had the accessories available when the booklets came in, and it would have been a better draw to offer the pre-order people an incentive if they would have thrown the HDMI-to-DVI adapter in free for doing the pre-orders.
     so far, the adapters are still not available and the website says in stores only.  i called the NY and Chicago stores and they do not have the parts, and the best buy stores, though it is the same as the Euro company Car Phone Warehouse, are still clueless about what this unit is and why they are selling it.
    has anyone been able to find the nokia branded OEM adapters for thier booklet 3g's yet?
    please post the links.

    Message Edited by ceroberts75 on 21-Nov-2009 01:56 PM

    I wanted to provide an update for anyone still trying to find an easy way to connect the Booklet to a VGA port.
    I purchased an HP HDMI to VGA converter (shown below, part NP031AA#ABA use google to find it).  It costs $40 new, and it is made to convert the HDMI output port on HP laptops into a VGA output port.  As the VGA output is really important for me, I figured it was worth a shot and bought this converter.  To my complete surprise it works with the Nokia booklet, and even activates the external display automatically once it's plugged in (ie: no need to push the function-display button).   It is a wonderful solution to this issue.
    To pre-empt some arguments - as many people have pointed out, HDMI is a digital signal while VGA is analog, hence the simple pass-through cables not working for this conversion.  I don't know exactly what's different about this converter except that the VGA port is inside a relatively large housing (see below), and the entire thing gets pretty warm during use, so I think there's some electronics going on in there.  Maybe the converter is drawing power from the HDMI port and using this to power the D-A conversion?  Or maybe the HDMI out on the Booklet and HP laptops somehow contain an analog signal that this converter is mapping to the VGA port? Anyway whatever it is doing the good news is that it  works with the Booklet.  I'd be happy to provide photos of it working if anyone would like them.
    I hope this info helps anyone that needs to connect the Booklet to a projector.  Nokia really should have included one of these dongles with the booklet!
    Please Kudos me if you find this answer helpful!

  • What accessories are needed to connect my Apple TV to my LCD projector (VGA connectors) in the classroom so that I can mirror my iPad for around the class teaching?

    I have been wanting to project my iPad to my class and the only way I have found is to use the connector. However, I would like to remove myself from in front of the classroom and move around the classroom. This encourages students to take notes and not pass notes. This also encourages them to engage in questioning of the lesson, because the teacher is not far removed from them if they're in the back of the classroom. How can I connect? I've read some forums that discuss converters and many who say it needs to be active or powered, but some of these powered converters are nearly two times the amount of the Apple TV. I wouldn't mind paying if this is the suggested way and it works. I don't want to go through several failed and expensive experiments.

    There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
    HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
    I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (if you are using the Apple TV 2)
