Connecting to an Ad-Hoc network works in Ubuntu but not in Arch

I've tried everything. Downgrading packages, installing/uninstalling other network managers and i tried manually (ifconfig, iwconfig), but with no results.
Then, i borrowed my girlfriend's laptop wich has Ubuntu 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32), hit the network name in the Gnome nm-applet and almost instantly i was connected.
I installed the gnome nm-applet too but nothing happened. (I use KDE 4.6.3).
I use wicd-kde everyday but it doesn't work either, kdeplasma-applets-networkmanagement works really bad for me and the git version crashes my desktop.
If i set the network parameters manually, dhcpcd doesn't work and times out. Same story with dhclient.
I'm going to try kernel26-lts to see if it's a kernel problem.
wireless card: Atheros 5007eg ath5k module.
Kernel: Stock Arch Kernel26 2.6.38.5
networkmanager version 0.7999
My girlfriend has the same wireless card.
I hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance.

I tried kernel26-lts...same result...
Some has a working ad-hoc configuration?

  • ATI Radeon HDMI works in Ubuntu but not Arch

    Hi,
is there any reason why HDMI works for my laptop in Ubuntu but not Arch? They are both apparently using the same open source ATI Radeon (not HD) driver.
The card is an HD 4225 (RS880M I think).
    Thanks, Jamie Kitson

The driver versions are very similar, 6.13.1 Ubuntu and 6.13.2 for Arch and Xorg are both 1.9.0. I have reported a bug here:

  • Bluetooth USB Dongle works in Ubuntu but not Arch

My "Conceptronic Bluetooth 2.1 USB Nano adapter (CBT2NANO)" works in ubuntu correctly but when I try to use it in Archlinux the kernel says:
hub 6-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 1
and the logs are flooded with this message.
it think that the problem is a bluez patch not included in the arch linux repositories.
(My first Lang is Spanish, so I can be wrong in the grammar, sorry)
I hope that someone know where is the problem and help me to fix it.

there is a problem with the kernel!, Actually I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and I keep having the same issue, but when I connect my dongle in the USB 3.0 port, it works and is recognized as a Full Speed USB Device:
usb 3-3: new full speed USB device number 37 using ohci_hcd
When I use a USB extension (Cable) or connect the device in USB 2.0 Port, dmesg says:
hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 3
once, again, again, and so on.
And I think the problem is in ohci_hcd module.
If at first the dongle works in USB 2.0 Port I want it working in this Port too, couse some PC have not USB 3.0 Port, and my USB3.0 is in the back panel, so the signal is worse.
    thanks for any help.

  • [SOLVED]Printer working in Ubuntu, and not in Arch

    Hello,
    Well, it's a little bit weird I bought a new printer, it's a Epson SX415.
Cups detects it as a Epson SX410, I tried to make it work with the following drivers:
So, with the CUPS+gutenprint drivers, it seems to work (cups says job sent) but the printer doesn't make a move. With the foomatic drivers, cups says:
    stopped
    "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed"
If it works with Ubuntu 10.10, I guess I'll be able to make it work under Arch, but currently I don't know how to do that :s
    Thanks

  • [SOLVED] hp tx2000 tablet pc works in ubuntu but not arch

im running arch64 on my hp pavilion tx2000 tablet pc.  the wacom is configured as a usb wacom in ubuntu and works perfectly
(i used this thread and that is how i got it work in ubuntu http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? … st5469447)
i installed linuxwacom using yaourt without any problems, however when i type
    cat /proc/bus/input/devices
the wacom doesnt appear.  i tried both the wiki guides from arch (tablet pc and wacom tablet) as well as the troubleshooting, but i cant detect my wacom  i also tried copying over my xorg.conf from ubuntu (i am dual booting ubuntu and arch) but that isnt working either.
    wacdump -f tpc /dev/ttys0
12:16:16.936 ERROR: Failed to open /dev/ttys0: No such file or directory
WacomOpenTablet: No such file or directory
    xidump -l
    Virtual core keyboard keyboard
    Virtual core pointer disabled
    Generic Keyboard extension
    Configured Mouse extension
    xidump -u stylus
Unknown ui option stylus; was it configured?
here is the output of some suggestions from the "wacom tablet" arch linux wiki - the tablet does appear under lsusb
    lsusb
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 056a:0093 Wacom Co., Ltd
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 08ff:1600 AuthenTec, Inc.
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 064e:a110 Suyin Corp.
    Bus 002 Device 002: ID 04b4:6560 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. CY7C65640 USB-2.0 "TetraHub"

    Bus 001 Device 003: ID 03f0:171d Hewlett-Packard
    Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001
so next i created 10-local.rules in /etc/udev/rules.d (as suggested) and put this into the file
    KERNEL=="event*", SYSFS{idVendor}=="056a", NAME="input/%k", SYMLINK="input/wacom"
but then when i do /dev/input and then ls...the wacom doesn't appear (even after restarting udev and restarting the computer)
wacomcpl does work, however there are no buttons for stylus, eraser etc.
i feel like ive tried eeeeverything (im starting to get confused now) - but i know it has to work because it works in ubuntu, and we all know arch is superior to ubuntu riiiiight???
what can i try next?? are there any arch users with the tx2000 pavilion?
    thank you

okay, i fixed it! i returned to the original ubuntu forum i had used...apparently the pci settings must appear in the xorg file, if you dont know how to do this just go here:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? … ost5469447
you can download his sample xorg to see it.
now here's the thing, the archlinux wiki says to add a line that says:
    Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS0"
    and
    Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4"
i had to remove those for each stylus, eraser and touch.  i also removed the cursor and made it into touch.  here are my xorg settings:

next i have to configure my synaptictouchpad (so the scroll function works), my fingerprint scanner, my webcam and all my extra little buttons (also the screenrotate thing)  if anywone has quickfixes id be happy to know otherwise its back to google.
    nothing like arch!

  • Ios7 can't connect to wifi ad-hoc network

    Hi,
I have a problem connecting my iPhone 4S to the ad-hoc wifi connection my macbook creates when "sharing" the ethernet internet connection through wifi, with iOS6 it worked flawlessy. I have no problems connecting in wifi to my router though.
Anyone experienced that? Could you try?
    Thank you

For what it's worth, I contacted the support team at Avatron (the developer of Air Display) and asked whether they had any workarounds. Here's what they came up with:
Thanks for contacting us at Avatron support about the issues that you've been seeing when connecting via an ad hoc network. I was unaware of this problem but after doing some testing this morning it seems to happen with one of our iOS 7 iPad 2s as well.
While this definitely seems like something that Apple needs to address, I was able to get Air Display working over the ad-hoc network if I disabled internet sharing from the Mac System Preferences > Sharing pane. Obviously the drawback of this is that the iPad will no longer be connected to the internet when you are using Air Display in this manner.
Please let me know if this is able to serve as a temporary workaround while Apple investigates the problem.
    Cheers,
    Aaron
    Technical Support
    Avatron Software, Inc.
Clearly this is not a full fix as I can't access the internet when connected to my ad-hoc network, but at least I got Air Display running.
Their reply also suggests that this isn't a blanket issue covering all devices running iOS7, as only "one of [their] iOS 7 iPad 2s" was having the same problem.

  • Can't FaceTime anymore?  iPad states wifi connected and iPhone 4 states not connected?  I have wireless in my home? Not sure what happened.  Password works for iPad but not on phone?

iPhone won't connect to wifi.  iPad is connected.  Password working on iPad but not on phone.  Can't upload software update of IOS 7.1 because phone not connecting to wifi?

Connect iPhone to computer and open iTunes.  You will be prompted to update to iOS 7.0.  Keep your phone connected until the update is finished.

  • HT1145 I have an older plug in version of Airport Express and am trying to connect it to my wifi network to boost coverage but it is not connecting to my network.

I have an older plug in version of Airport Express and am trying to connect it to my wifi network to boost coverage but it is not connecting to my network.

What is the make & model of the wireless router that you are trying to "boost" with the AirPort Express? Is your Express an 802.11g or 802.11n model? Is the connection between routers going to be a wired or wireless one?

  • Wifi works at home but not when away from home

My Wifi works at home but not when away from home, what is wrong?  I thought with a phone plan I didn't need to have a wifi connection.

You either need WiFi or Cellular (or both). If you have neither, you can't connect to the internet.
Most people use WiFi at home and Cellular while away from home, or connect to public WiFi networks where there are some.

  • Connecting computer to tv for viewing EPIX,ETC.. but not through router?????

I need to start connecting computer to tv for viewing EPIX,ETC.. but not through router?????  I have a workroom with a TV but without cable connection, so I thought I would connect my computer to my TV.  I have an Acer Aspire laptop. and a 27" tv.  Please can anyone tell me how to get this to work.  I need something to watch while I am working.

I'm a little confused here as to what you're looking for. Are you simply trying to get Internet Connectivity to the computer using the best method possible or are you looking to try and send a signal to the TV without a cable connection going to it? The computer's Internet portion is easy if that is the case. If we can just get some additional information on that, we'll figure out how to approach it.
1: Does this Workroom have any Coaxial cabling going to it that can be connected back to the cabling the FiOS equipment is using?
2: Is Ethernet cabling available and running to the location of the router, or nearby?
3: Would Wireless work for you (as much as it is not ideal)?
4: Are you looking for a Physical connection to the network?
Now if what you're trying to accomplish is the actual connection between the Computer and the TV, check to see what inputs the TV supports (HDMI, VGA, DVI, Component, Composite) and see what the laptop supports (DisplayPort, VGA, HDMI, DVI). More than likely the Laptop would have a VGA connection along with the TV. Your best bet would be to honestly just connect a VGA Cable between the two machines, and then for audio, just use a 3.5" to Composite connection for the TV (Unless the TV has a 3.5" Input jack for the PC Input). If HDMI is available on both devices, by all means use that. Same with DVI as both give better picture quality over a VGA Cable.
If you can give us exact model numbers, that would help.

  • QTSS Works on Mac but not the other

I have a Server running OS X Server 10.5.8. I am running QTSS and Apache on this machine, however I am having issues with Quicktime streaming. One mac here is able to successfully stream but all other macs on our network fail to connect despite the QTSS "Connections" window shows the connection to the machine trying to stream the video. In the end on the client Quicktime X shows "Not Found" however I am able to connect to the server via other services (ARD, AFP, HTTP). I can post any logs that might help.
    Thanks in advance

I couldn't remember what the Display Preferences had said when we tried this last spring and again in the summer, so tonight we connected it again, and wouldn't you know - it worked just fine. • Why does the counter work in MAX, but not Labview?

Please help, I have been away from Labview for over 3 months, and I am quite rusty....
Last year, I successfully configured NI9401 to measure period (seconds) by counting the rising edges of my sensor signal.  Since then, I have aquired a new PC, and loaded all my software into it, including the Labview VI's that successfully worked on the old computer.
I can see the digital signal using MAX and the test panel for the NI9401, so, I know my wiring and my TTL signal is OK, but, when I try to run the attached VI, nothing happens except the error below..  How do I tell this VI to look for the signal on MOD3/CTR0 and channel 14?
Thanks. I am sure it is a small adjustment...this worked fine a few months ago...not sure what is wrong now.
    Thanks,

OK, now.  Resolved the issue. The vi is fine, but, some shaky wires were identified...worked in MAX but not in the vi.  Now that the connections have been tightened up, it works for both.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Sockets work on localhost but not remotely?

    hi there,
I have created a simple multithreaded client / server program.
The Server listens on port 2222 for clients. When a client connects - the client sends its ip address to the server and then disconects. More than 1 client can connect at the same time to the server and the server also listens continuasly. I have 2 problems with the program...
    a) the programs work on localhost but not on remote machines? (Well not over my LAN anyway).
    b) I am getting 2 lots of 'datain' when the server recieves an ip address from the client when the client should only send it once.

    http://www.projectg.dsl.pipex.com

In your client you are creating two sockets (why?). One connected to localhost, the other connected to the host specified using readLine.
If your client runs on the same machine you have started your server, you have two connects to your server instead of one.
The ip adresse is sent using the socket connected to localhost. That is why it does not work on remote machines.
    Hope this helps.

  • 23" works on One but not the Other

I have a Powerbook G4 1.25 GHz running 10.3.9 connected to a similar vintage 23" clear plastic case display with a DVI to ADC adapter connection and it works great.
My husband recently bought a used Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz running 10.4.8. We thought sure that when I was out of town with my computer he could hook up and enjoy the use of my big display, but no luck. It just gives him a blank screen.
Any suggestions as to why that would be? Does his machine require a different adapter? Is it possible his port is just not functioning?
    Thanks!

  • BAPI works in test but not in production

3rd party software uses BAPI to input data into SAP. This works in test but not in production. We have checked that user 3rd party software uses have same rights in both systems. BAPI is standard SAP BAPI. We can connect to production with SM59.
Is there anything in SAP that could cause this?

No. Better you check with the PATCH Levels.. etc to know is there any changes in the BAPI (BASIS people can help you) > Otherwise go to SYSTEM in the MENUBAR> STATUS--> Compare the Status there
After that check the data once...
