Connecting to an HP DesignJet 450c

At work we have an old (but working fine last time it was plugged in) HP DesignJet450C printer/plotter. I'm on a mac pro (late 2010) and could benefit from using it - but I've not found online whether there's a reliable way to connect (Apple doesn't test OS X with usb/parallel port adapter cables) and print (HP does not offer a Mac OS driver, and the only 3rd party driver I've read about online (from UK's Microspot) was mentioned in conversations from 2002 - so I'm nervous that their driver would not be compatible with the current 10.10.2.
Does anyone know anything about how to do this or even if it can still be done?

Try the Gutenprint driver.

USB-parallel cables don't provide the bidirectional feedback (handshake) that many drivers need to function correctly - causing mid-page or single-page stall of the printer.
Try a different USB-parallel adapter, or, get a parallel print server and put the printer on the network. Used ones are about $25 on ebay.
Or, find and try "usbtb," a substitute USB print backend (comm w/ the printer) that fakes bidirectional feedback.
(caveat - I haven't used usbtb since mountain lion)

HP Designjet 450c problem

I believe in recycling instead of tossing things into garbage. I like to re-use good-quality printers that were discarded by others. If there is something a little wrong, I try to repair it and replace bad parts. Right now I am stumped.
I bought a HP Designjet 450c from a recycling center. I want to print full-scale topographic maps.
I checked out this printer. It powers up and "works" fine. It can print. Right now I wonder what is wrong. It seems to print smears, some ghosting, dark bars and "ears" on columns made from magneta and black cartridges. The cyan and yellow cartridges are fine.
I cleaned out the spitton, the wipers, and the bottoms of the ink carriage. I swapped ink cartridges. The problem persists in the magneta and black slots from cartridge to cartridge. I even used a pencil eraser to buff the cartridge contacts inside the cartridge carriage tray slots.
I wish I could upload a pdf copy of a printout but I don't see how I can do that on this forum.
I wonder what is the diganosis and the solution? I hope it is a simple fix or better. I would hate to junk this magnificent designjet because of this problem.

The product you have seems to be a commercial printer. The Designjets are completely different . For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support.

Hp designjet 450c / windows 7

we have updated a couple of our computer to windows 7 and use a hp designjet 450c and can't find a driver that is compatible with windows 7 is there a way to get it to work with windows 7? the owner wont buy a new plotter.

In the end I just kept my old computer to drive the 450C, transferring drawings on a memory stick. Actually it is handy to be able to leave the old computer and plotter producing drawings whilst I can get on with other stuff on the new computer

Designjet 450c driver with all colors needed

Hello Bob and all others,
I have been also looking for driver to my designjet 450c . I use win7 x64 .
It looks that driver ( hpdj430x64glen ) prints only grayscale pictures.
How could I change it to support all colors. It doesnt give option at anywhere on settings.

The only thing I can think of is the driver is not made for an x-64 based system.
Oops - it was a critical piece of information missing there, that you are using an x64 system. You will need the x64 version of the driver, which I have never found.
Edit - I do not know how I missed this one, it shoud install on your x64 system. Download the driver here. The drivers installed fine on my Windows 7 x64 system.

HP DesignJet 450c

I have a DesignJet 430 upgraded to a 450c which is not printing correctly. I am working on Windows XP. All of the colours will not print correctly. All of the cartridges are full. The colour red will not print at all. Can you advise on any measures I can take to rectify this.

That said, it may be that you have a defective Magenta cartridge. You might try removing the magenta cartridge and soaking it nozzles down in about 1" of very hot (not boiling) water for ten minutes, then gently dry the electrical contacts with a lint free cloth.

Designjet 450c

I have a 450c printer that I have tried everything on and am about ready to give up. Long story short, I have the new cable that this forum said I needed, I put a new ink cartridge in and the printer will print a test page if I manually print it from the printer. When I try to print a test page from my computer the ready light flashes, and the printer takes off and sounds like it is printing. Cuts the sheet off and I have a blank page. Have tride the 450 and 430 dirvers, the 430 is the driver that works. I am running windows 7 64bit. Ready to order a new T120 and not mess with it anymore. Does anyone have any ideas before I spend the money on a new one? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

DesignJet 450c - cart and data error lights on when starting up?

Hi,
Everytime I turn on our plotter the cartridge and data lights come on solid red, they turn off when I press cancel, but it is always followed by me having to reload the paper as it spits it back out. I'm using paper on a roll.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is? It does print fine, but its incredibly annoying having to realign the paper everytime I turn it on!

How to connect an HP 111 designjet with my airport extreme 2nd gen with bonjour for windows

Hi:
I have an HP 111 Tray, plug into an airport extreme 2nd Gen, both works properly running in a PC with windows 7.
When I start Bonjour for windows it identify de printer, but when i continue my printer is not in the list, I used the browse buttom and selected the .inf file that is contained in the driver and Bonjour collapsed everytime

What model and firmware is the 2TB TC?
What firmware is the AE?
Does the AE get good signal from the TC in its current location?
Signal can only be extended that is received intact.
Is it extending on 5ghz? As I remember it a Gen2 AE is only single band, although you can choose either 2.4ghz or 5ghz.
I am fairly sure you are going to tell me your TC is AC model..
I would do a couple of things..
1. Fix the wireless name, make it short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
2. Fix the wireless channel for 2.4ghz so it is not going to jump around.
3. Get real results from the AE in its current location for signal strength.. this is really only possible on v5 utility. And that is a double pain with Mavericks because you cannot use it.
Apple have removed all the useful diagnostics from the airport utility. There is next to nothing left. So you need to use the computer and its diagnostics to find signal levels in the location.

Windows 7, Adobe Acrobat and the HP DesignJet 5000 PS

We have users that connect to a networked DesignJet 5000 PS to print out design documents. One of our users was recently upgraded to Windows 7 and is now unable to print from Adobe Acrobat.
When the user attempts to print, the print dialog box appears. However, when she selects the printer from the dropdown box, Adobe hangs and then crashes. No error messages are displayed aside from the standard "This program has encountered a problem and must close."
Other programs can print to the printer. This issue only happens in Adobe, and only on the computer running Windows 7. I was unable to locate a Windows 7 driver, likely because the printer appears to be discontinued.
I have tried in both Adobe Acrobat 8 as well as 10, and both produce the same issue. Since the issue only occurs in Adobe, I cannot find fault with the printer itself. Please provide any assistance you can.

I can't print a test page to HP Designjet 450 C. Communications problem.

1. Product Name and Number: HP DESIGNJET 450C A0
2. Operating System: Windows XP
3. Error message: none
4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred: Not that I can remember.
The main board was changed some years ago (about 4) .
Since then the plotter continued to work properly even though the 2 red LEDS "Data" and "Media" stayed on continuosly.
The advance paper and cutter are working.
I have always had a software dongleon the LPT port of my midi tower PC and the parallel cable to the plotter.
I have tried swithcing on and off to reset the plotter. I have reinstalled the driver.
The power switch hasn't work properly from before replacement of the main board. I pull the plug out to switch the plotter off.

This seems to be a commercial product. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

Using what version and what driver? There is a know problem with the Gutenprint drivers v5.1.3 that come pre-installed with Leopard. For Epson printers, they will default to Draft mode unless you specify a specific resolution. Later versions of the Gutenprint drivers have corrected this.

Any known work-arounds????
Have you tried the driver from Epson. It is not included with Leopard. You need to download and install it separately. Start at _http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportLeopard.jsp_ to find the driver download.

Printing Error Message

Hi. I'm new to Aperture, mostly loving it, but having a bear of a time doing something that's probably very simple. I'm most likely just an idiot for missing the obvious, but:
I'm running Aperture on a 24" iMac with max'ed memory, connected to an HP DesignJet 30 printer. Simply put, I'd like to print an image at the printer's native input resolution at a chosen size. However, on picking a paper size (Tabloid), scaling (Fit Entire Image), then un-checking "Use Best DPI" and entering 300DPI, I get the following error message:
DPI Too High
One or more images cannot be printed at the requested resolution. Problem images will be printed at the best possible resolution.
What am I doing wrong? I can't believe Aperture cannot do something as trivial as this. In Lightroom, one simply sets the desired res, sets page size and border, then the application upscales or downscales to the appropriate file-size. So does just about every other imaging application out there. Thing is, I'd rather NOT use every other application out there. That's why I bought Aperture.
I sure hope the answer isn't, "That's just the Aperture way. Have some more KoolAid." To feed the printer other than integer multiples of 300DPI--or of 360 for the Epsons--subtly, but significantly, degrades the output. The last thing I want to do is have to export to Photoshop just to print properly.
One other glitch: The printer settings don't seem to stick--not even for a single printing session. I discovered this after using the "Printer Settings" button to access my printer driver--to set inking levels, paper type and the like. Just to double check, I returned to "Printer Settings" prior to starting a print run, only to find that the printer had either reverted to the old settings, or the new settings simply never stuuck.
What's with that?

Well, I'd dearly love to use Aperture as at least the beginning and end of my workflow, with Photoshop as an optional way-station for heavier lifting.
The DAM features of Aperture are compelling, the raw adjustments adequate, but its seemingly limited output options and all-around rough edges really harsh the buzz for me. Truly, I don't get how some of this stuff got by the team.
Knowing Apple, though, I'm sure 2.0 will be a winner. But so may Lightroom 1.0. Sadly, neither seems quite ready for primetime, yet, though I'm sure their respective fans might disagree. Me? I'm agnostic. And impatient.
In the meantime, anyone here have an answer/work-around for my printing problem?

I am unable to print PDF drawings

Ihave a HP Designjet 450C and am unable to print PDF drawings to it it does work fine and accepts AutoCAD
I have Adobe reader x installed on my computor and windows 7 ultimate
does anyone have any ideas, please keep them simple as i am IT iliterate.

This forum is focused on consumer level products. For the Designjet you may have better results posting in the HP Enterprise Designjet forum here. Be sure to mention what operating ststem you are using.
