Connecting to an older TV?

I want to connect an AppleTV to a TV using only the left and right audio ports and the video port on the back of my TV, it has no HDMI. The AppleTV has the left and right audio ports, though it has 3 ports for the video. How do you connect the video cable to it for this since it has 3 ports?
Thanks.

you got 2 options
1 connect the green rca from the aTV to the yellow composite on your tv
2 buy this http://www.svideo.com/ypbpr2svideo.html

  • How can I connect to an older model TV?

I have a 13'' MacBook Pro version 10.8.2  (Early 2011). I am a teacher and I am hoping to connect my computer to the older model Tv that is in my classroom, It is one of those dinosaurs that weighs a ton. It does have the Red, Yellow, and white things to plug into it. I have a HDMI adapter for my HD TV at home and the results are fabulous, I just don't know how to get the same results in my classroom! If that won't work, does anyone else have other ideas!! Thank you so much for your help!!!

The RED, YELLOW, and WHITE connectors are probably round audio RCA connections.  For video, the TV should have a separate connector, possibly like this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Kanex/MDPVGA10FT/
If you have a manual for the TV, look to see what inputs is has.  Without specific information, it is next to impossible to give sound advice.
    Ciao.

  • Mac mini server has suddenly stopped seeing one or the other bluetooth devices! Batteries have been changed and they will connect to an older Mac mini. Server will now only see one or the other but not both.

My Mac mini server has suddenly stopped seeing one or the other bluetooth devices, either the wireless keyboard or the mouse( both apple products) have tried new batteries, at first it was the mouse that stopped responding, but upon rebooting the computer now the keyboard will not respond and the mouse works. Both work fine on an older Mac mini that I hooked back up to check.

There is absolutely no reason why they should not bothe be able to connect to your WiFi network. The easiest place to start would be to reboot your router. Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in again. I would also restart both the iPad and the iPhone.

  • Connecting to an older Airport Extreme

I have my Cable Modem connected to my old UFO Airport Extreme in one room. Can I bridge the new Airport Extreme 802.11n to the existing UFO internet conncetion so i can connect not only my Macbook Pro via Airport but also my old iMac through its ethernet port? Plus an external hard drive for Time Machine.

You can do what you describe but you're mixing terminology a bit. At present your older Extreme is serving as your wireless router. If you add the newer Extreme to your network, and you want it to communicate with the older one wirelessly, you will need to reconfigure your network so that both Extremes "participate in a WDS network".
A "bridge" in a network context describes a device that connects one kind of network to another. That's what you want to do with your iMac, by connecting its Ethernet port to the Extreme's LAN port. You can also connect an external USB hard disk for Time Machine.
Using the right terminology will help you configure everything properly, and will help others understand what you're doing in case you need help.
If you don't already have an external HD, getting a Time Capsule instead of the Extreme might be more cost effective.

  • Connecting to an older Informix database

    Hi there,
Trying to figure out how to connect to what I think is a
pretty old Informix database (Informix RSAM Version 5.20.UC1) using
CFMX 7.0.2. The documenation I've been reading seems to indicate
that CF supports 9.x natively, and that to connect to 7.3 you need
to install the IBM drivers, but I think this is even older?
If anyone can help, it would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Update on this one -- I discovered that some users were using
Crystal 9 to connect to the database, and they were installing a
set of Informix ODBC drivers to be able to do so. So, I grabbed the
ODBC drivers and installed them. Then, I set up a new "ODBC Socket"
datasource and picked mine from the list. Works great! A side note
-- the JDBC drivers obviously do not connect correctly.

  • Connecting ATV 2 older TV?

Is it possible to connect an ATV2 to an older TV with only Composite or Coax available?  My goal is to watch DVDs and stream music using an Airport Express.  In the past, I have used a mini 'home theater' system.  However, I cannot find any reasonably priced systems that will not obviously die in 91 days (1 day after the warranty). Since I have been ripping my DVDs and streaming Netflix, I thought of ATV2 to stream the movies and to listen to music, I guess I will just use the TV speaker.  Any thoughts?

    Mr. Churchill,
In the States we have the Magic 8 Ball which is to be consulted in dire matters.  I asked it "does Winston Churchill know what he is talking about?"  The 8 ball responded with "All signs point to yes."  Now, if the Wise Mr. Churchill can lend advice how to get this particular issue past "She Who Must Be Obeyed" then your wisdom will be boundless.
    Thanks for the info.  Cheers.

  • Macbook Pro Only connects wirelessly with older Powerbook connected

I just bought a Macbook Pro and am having issues with my wireless internet connection. For some reason though when I have my older G4 1ghz Powerbook connected to the wireless router the connection on the Macbook Pro works flawlessly. I was having these problems with 10.4 and still with 10.5. The router is a Wireless G type Linksys.
    Any suggestions on why?

Try shuting down the G4 and the MBP. Then shut down your modem and router. Power cycle the modem, then the router, then the MBP. Post back.

  • Connection Issues with Older Airport Express

    Hello All,
Seems like a few of us are having Airport problems since the software update. I still can't get my wireless to work! My Airport Express is older, I bought it about a year and a half ago. Firmware is up to date.
To state the obvious, the internet connection works when hard wired to my Macbook. When I hook everything up to the AX and run the setup wizard, it connects to my network, but I just get a flashing amber light. If I go into the Airport Admin Utility, I can see that it is not generating an IP address. Web pages do not load, but my airtunes works! There are full status bars in the airport panel. I have deleted all my preferred networks in the Network Prefs as well (suggested in another post).
I have reinstalled the AX firmware, reinstalled the newest updates. Still, no cigar. Any further insight? Help before I lose my mind! I've been chipping away at this for days.
    Cheers!
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

A1264 is indeed supported by Mavericks and AirPort Utility 6.3.2.
Not sure what the issue might be if you cannot "see" the devices in AirPort Utillty.
You have "hard reset" the A1264 by powering it on for a few minutes, then holding in the reset button for 10 seconds, releasing and allow a full minute for the Express to restart.....correct?
    Restarted your Mac?
Wireless is turned on at the Mac?
Temporarily connected an Ethernet cable from your Mac to the Express?
If nothing works, try the steps in the Apple Support document, then repeat the steps above.

  • Since recent download of Firefox, "unable to connect"; Perhaps an older version will work; checked my firewall to allow, etc.; I'm connecting to you through Safari

I've been using Firefox until a recent download and now it won't connect. Perhaps an older version will work; checked my firewall to allow, etc.; I'm connecting to you through Safari; For some reason Internet Explorer is also not connecting. My computer uses Vista.

    Hello Michael.
Hopefully this support article is what you need:
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+will+not+start
In any case, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.
Also, if you want to use an older version of Firefox, please use Firefox 3.5.11. Only versions 3.5.11 and 3.6.8 are supported, and both contain all the latest security fixes. Using any other version is unsafe and not recommended.

  • I have a projector connected to a directtv box that is connected to an older Bose system in my media room. How can i hook up my apple tv to my projector and still get sound out of the bose system without running another sound cable to the bose system?

The audio cable currently is connected to the directtv box. If i hook my apple tv to the projector that means i would have to run a sound cable across my media room. is there any other way?

External speakers need to be connected via optical unless they work with airplay.

  • I lost the lan ethernet connection of an older windows 7 pc to my 3 Terabyte router when adding a new local printer to the pc. How do i set this up again so the PC is recognized and can get to the internet again through the time capsule?

I recently added a new printer to a 2005 vintage PC that is running windows 7. It used to go through a router in my wifes upstairs office to the time capsule by wired ethernet (cat5) but when I added her new local printer thought I would network it, big mistaked, lost all my ethernet connection and she cannot get to the internet. Wireless not an option. How do i set up again the ethernet connection and i will only USB the printer locally this time for the windows pc?
Tried windows diagnostics, and besides telling me to reset everything and turn router off and on etc. I am in an endless loop.
Other Mac products are not impacted by this issue.

I see no direct connection.. a printer and the computer setup for internet are not related.
But it sounds like the router in the wife's office is now in the wrong mode..
If you have an existing main router replace the second router for a switch .. that is the easy way.
Otherwise you need to bridge the router if it has that option.. most do not. Or use wan bypass.. where you turn off the dhcp server in the router and fix its ip to match the range of the main router.. this is the hassle of using router as a switch.
BUT I am making a huge number of assumptions.
What I need is the full network layout.. a quick picture would help.
I need main modem.. main router.. (maybe same box or different).. make model and current IP address and how dhcp is setup.
I need secondary router.. if that is what it is, IP and settings.
I want the printer type and model. How it is connected.
BTW I much prefer to see a network printer plugged into the network rather than usb.. it is only a matter of sorting the IP settings and driver pointing to the network rather than local.
Or you should think of it as a broken washing machine and call the technician.. who could fix the whole lot in an hour.

  • Can MacBook pro be connected to my older 1100 scanner?

Do you think I can use MacBook Pro with my older scanner" Powerlook 1100" that I was using with Apple Power Mac G4, OS 9 operating system?

Not sure.  If you posted to the correct server forum, someone could tell you, since most people with MacBook Pros only have the client version, whose compatibility may differ from the server version.
Not to mention, if you find Windows driver, you can likely install an older vesion of Windows that will at least share it on your Mac.
There are several open source driver sources*.

  • Connecting iPad to older Mac

I just bought a new iPad and tried unsuccessfully to connect to my iMac - OS X 10.4.11
It has powerPC chip. The icon says i need OS X 10.5 or above to work, but I understand OS X 10.5 only works with Intel.
I dont really want to replace the iMac yet as it works perfectly well.
Is there any way around my problem?

Mac OS 10.6 only works with the Intel CPU. OS 10.5.8 should work with the G5 PPC CPU.
You need 10.5.8 to run iTunes 9.1 or above which is needed to sync with the iPad.

  • How can i bypass IPs shared secret or certificate when connecting to an older microsoft vpn network

I have a macbook pro running Lion.  When I attempt to connect via VPN I am asked for either a shared secret or a certificate, but the Microsoft server does not use or recognize either.  How can I bypass this requirement so I can access files I desperately need for work?

I am most certainly Not wrong, I just spent an hour sitting with the system administrator and he was befuddled!  The network does not require machine authentication.  Lion seems to think all networks do.
My connection is set up for PPP (no PPTP option exists, but certainly is NOT under L2TP)
The machine authentication is required by Lion no matter how we set it up.
    Any other ideas?
