Connecting to an OS 9.2.2 machine while running 10.4.8

Question

At work, we use 4 old Macs running 9.2.2. (two Bondi iMacs, and 2 G4 Towers) They are networked to our editor's computer using Appletalk, along with our printer, and run through a switch.
Recently, we had to get a new DSL modem, which included a wireless router, as well as a 4-port ethernet router. We chose to leave the network pretty much as-is (one port of the router/modem running to the switch), since it would involve pulling wires.
However, every now and then, I have to bring my powerbook to work if we have a file that I have to try to convert because it is not compatible with our old software.
I have no trouble connecting, through AirPort, to the internet, but I cannot for the life of me, figure out how access the server on my Editor's G4. There is (obviously) no chooser panel for me to use in 10.4.8. and the server doesn't show up when I browse the network.
Does that mean it's hopeless? or can someone tell me how to accomplish this?
