Connecting to Azure SQL database in Access 2010

I've recently purchased a new computer and I had an OBDC connection set up to link to a sql database in azure through access. I am trying to set it up on my new computer but I'm unable to define the specific database. I'm able to make the connection but
it only allows me into the master database. I've added my IP address in the configure servers but still can't get things to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
The following guidelines apply to SQL Database connections using ODBC:
• When using SQL Server Native Client from SQL Server 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2008, the connection string must include the server name as part of the user name (user@server).
• You must use TCP/IP as the protocol when connecting to an Azure SQL Database.
• You cannot create a table in the master database, so therefore you must create a user database to create a table.
• You cannot execute a use database command to switch to your user database. You must disconnect and connect directly to the user database.
• You must have a primary key or clustered index on your table to be able to insert data.

Cannot Connect to Azure SQL Database in Visual Studio 2013

Beyond Frustrated here.
I am trying to connect to an Azure SQL database - it has been created, has tables etc. I am trying to create a new Data Connection from within Visual Studio 2013, latest release for VS and Azure. I continue to receive the following error:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)
I have ensured that TCP is allowed and above Named Pipes in the Configuration Manager. The associated IP address is allowed on Azure Firewall. Certificate has been added to VS etc. But still no connection. I can see the database in the Azure section in Server
Explorer, but cannot add a Data Connection. What is equally as frustrating is I have a MacBook Pro running Win 7 sitting right next to my office computer and it can access Azure fine, not problems.
If anyone has any other ideas on how I might be able to solve this I would love to hear them. Thanks in advance.

The issue comes up mainly because the application is not able to connect to the server.
To resolve this issue, try the following steps (in that order):
Make sure that TCP IP is enabled as a client protocol on the application server. For more information on how to do this, see
Configure client protocols. On application servers where you do not have SQL Server tools installed, you can check this by running cliconfg.exe (SQL Server Client Network Utility).
2. Check the application’s connection string to make sure that it is correctly configured. For example, make sure that the connection string specifies the correct port (1433) and the fully qualified server name.
Note You can follow these steps to obtain the connection string from the Azure Management Portal:
                      Log on to the
Azure Management Portal.
                      In the left navigation pane, click
SQL Databases.
                      Select your Azure SQL Database server.
                      Click
Dashboard.

Can No Longer Connect to Azure SQL Databases

As of this morning, I am no longer to connect to any of my Azure SQL databases by any (apparent) means. I checked the configuration in the azure portal and my IP address is listed as an allowed IP, however:
I am unable to connect via SQL Server Management Studio
My request times out when attempting to visit https://{server_name}.database.windows.net
What might have caused this?

Consistently getting "The wait operation timed out" when connecting to Azure SQL Database from a virtual instance...

I have a web app that is backed by a an Azure SQL Database. The problem is that I had multiple issues when connecting to the database mainly when trying to establish a connection, or timeouts. This is the log I just encountered when trying to use the web
app.

How to connect to Azure SQL database remotely (SharePoint 2013 BI)

Hi,
I am new to using Azure VM's and I am looking for advice. I have created and can connect to an Azure VM with a SQL Server 2012 installed on it (includes SSAS and SSRS). I connect to the VM using Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection.
The problem I am having is connecting to the Azure database from a SharePoint BI site. Are there any good videos or websites that demonstrate how to setup an Azure VM so a user can access a database remotely.

Hello,
To connect to the SQL Server Database from another computer, you must know the Domain Name System (DNS) name of the Azure virtual machine. For example: DNSName,portnumber such as SQLVM.cloudapp.net,57500.
(Note: The port number is the public endpoint port which you can configure in the management portal for TCP communication with SQL Server on Azure VM.)
As for datasource credentials, you can use a SQL Server authentication login: create a SQL Server login with password on the SQL Server instance.

Yesterday I was able to connect Azure SQL Database - Today I am not

Hello Everyone,
I have problem with establishing connection with Azure SQL Database. I have read many articles here, tried some solutions but none worked.
0. On last Friday everything worked well - today it does not.
1. I added my public IP Address in Azure Management Portal earlier.
2. I tried different types of login-ways: login@nameserver, I used numeric addresses instead of server names, I set TCP connection manually, added encryption in one case either, tried do establish connection with particular database
3. Firewall does not block 1433 out connection
4. My IP address is static
5. I have no error message displayed using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio - it just hangs.. - no response at all
6. I cannot ping the machine but its name is resolved correctly - maybe it does not respond using echo reply on purpose
7. Status of my database is Active - I am able to connect it and manage via browser and management portal at the moment
8. When I am trying to connect database via Visual Studio - it hangs.. - VS must be stopped manually via task manager
9. My local CloudService has problem with connection to the db either
10. Currently I am not able to deploy my CloudService because when I am trying to Publish it - VS hangs as soon as first Publish dialog window appears. Looks that I am able to deploy cloud service via Management portal only.
I am still trying to dive into the problem but at this moment I would be grateful for any clues.

PROBLEM SOLVED.
Yestarday I updated Azure Firewall rule and database-level firewall rules (master, my_database). I added special input / output protocols (IP, TCP, UDP) rules to my COMODO firewall (MSSMS could send anything and receive anything using IP, TCP and UDP). Status
of my computer -> database connection was set to ESTABLISHED in netstat output but MSSMS was still unavailable (no response at all - no error message).
I DECIDED TO UNINSTALL COMODO AT ALL and then if it does not work - reinstall local SQL Server, MSSMS and finally Visual Studio. When Comodo was gone - problem was gone either. Now I have connection with my database using MSSMS and I do not have to reinstall
anything more.

Using SQL Azure will work fine (see below), if the students are familiar with SQL Server and SQL Databases it will be great for them to see how it works in the cloud. As an alternative you could explore Azure Storage, using Table Storage, Blob Storage or

VS: It's 4 nines (99.99) The 99.99% uptime SLA applies to Basic, Standard, and Premium service tiers only.

VS: Yes and No, Yes because its offered as SAAS, yes multiple tenants are hosted on Azure DB, but they are isolated and also depends on the tier you choose. SQL Azure is designed for Massive scaling, so if you were worried about slowness due
to multi tenant hosting, trust me that should last thing to be worried about.
No, because you can choose to go all the way to premium (now that does not mean you are the only db on the server but its super high performing database out there)

VS: Its hosted in Microsoft Datacenters and offered as a service, although we can go in detail of architecture of SQL Azure but for this set of questions its irrelevant. Performance is massive on SQL Azure, it can be scaled out or scaled down

VS: Not following your question here, what is meant by architecture of VM?
What is the nature, bandwidth and reliability of connectivity between Azure VMs and Azure SQL DB.
VS: The connectivity in general is great unless you decide to host one service in part of the world and other totally other corner, in that case also I have seen good connectivity between the two given normal latency.
Is this network capacity between VMs and SQL DB shared between multiple tenants.
VS: Not following your question in entirty, do you mean network capacity in terms of GB/Sec? if your vm and sql are in same Data Center its the fastest connectivity you can get out there in market on any cloud or for that matter on prem :)

VS: MS have protection against many threats, DOS being one of them, Microsoft has done the best job among all the cloud providers out there to inform thier customers about outages, in a recent summit this was also discussed in detail and suggestions
were made to improve on the portal feature.
Each time an service goes down its reported on the portal on service health page, they are improving on the SLA breach report, at this moment its part of your invoice. I have personally not seen a single breach on my services, I am actively using Azure for
last 5+ years.

VS: number of VMs have nothing to do with network performance, keep in mind the fabric underneath is build for massive scale, network performance and latency will vary (they keep improving) if you choose to create your VMs in a different DCs
then you would come across some latency and that's normal.

VS: these are not per VM limits, they are driven by MAx_THREAD and MAX_SESSION, please refer to the link above in the question for Max worker thread
If for some reason SQL DB crashes experiences, Is the Data recoverable.
VS: I would be careful to answer this, if you choose to use SQL Azure (which is offered as SAAS) then yes MS takes care of data replication to ensure SLA. if you choose to host your own SQL DB on your VM in Azure, MS is not responsible for
the data recovery, you will have to take care of it (because now you are not talking about PAAS, instead you are going for IAAS)
Can the Azure SQL DB be backed up in Azure Cloud/ or Amazon S3
VS: Ofcourse, I am not very familiar with Amazon S3 but i see no reason why it can't be done.

DB SCHEMA INFO error when connecting to AZURE SQL through OLE DB

Created a virtual machine in Azure and connected to Azure SQL server. I have been able to access the Azure SQL server through 2014 SQL Server Management Studio.
I have connected my program to the Azure SQL through a OLE DB connection. I am able to connect and create a new database through this connection, however when I try to connect to the newly created database, i get the following error:
Error creating connection: Not a Market(our product) database: Invalid object name 'db_schema_info'.
I am not sure what is going on and why this error is showing up. Is it because of the OLE DB connection? The fact that the login mysql.database.windows.net has periods and a login login@mysql? I have had issues with punctuation in the past when connecting
through OLE DB. Please help me to either find the right code or another work around option.
I can connect my program to a local SQL server hosted on the VM the same process as above without any issues. This is not a viable option as I need to connect multiple VMs to the same SQL server.

Connecting to Microsoft Azure SQL Database by using OLE DB or ADO is not supported on SQL Azure.

Microsoft does not announce support for OLE DB connections to Azure and there are limitations. Some required OLE DB schema rowsets are not available from an Azure connection, and some properties that identify features in SQL Server are not adjusted to represent

Database Initialiser does not create azure sql database

I have a WPF application In the OnStartup in the app.cs I set the Database initializer and forced the context the initialise my database:

Problem in Azure SQL Database Basic Tier

I have a WinForms Application was using Azure SQL Database (Web)
It was working fine with web version (for last 2.5 years).
After Microsfot's new offerings of New Tiers of Azure SQL Database,
I tried Basic Tier.
Observation for last 24 hours according to Azure Portal when Database in
BASIC state :::
Successful Connections : 2 (Max), 1.5(Avg), 3(Total)

The WinForm Application working fine but there is some problem:
When a Report is generated (local .rdlc), the connection gives "Timeout Expired"
This problem occurs only in 25% cases (in 75% cases works fine)with same data.
If I upgrade database to Standard (S1) it works fine.
QUESTION IS :
Resource Stats show it is using very low resources.
like CPU percentage 3.34 (Max), Log Writes Percentage 0.05 (Max)
and Physical Data Reads Percentage 0.01 (Max)
Why the report not works in 25% cases in BASIC state but works in STANDARD S1 state ?
The price of Standard S1 is 8 timeshigher then BASIC

I know it and that's why I mentioned different resource stats.
My database (BASIC) using only :
CPU Percentage : 3.34
(Max)
Log Writes Percentage :
0.05 (Max)
Physical Data Reads Percentage :
0.01 (Max)
While Microsoft says if any parameter goes beyond 80% usage then you need to upgrade tier

Connect to Azure Sql DB through WCF Data Service

I am following the tutorial:

Connect to Windows Azure SQL Database Through WCF Data service on a
Windows 8 machine running VS2013. Until starting this tutorial, I have only been using VS for WPF applications. So it might not be properly configured for a web app.
Everything works just fine until I get to the section on Creating the Client Application. Clicking the Discover button populates the services pane with my service. When I click on the service in the pane I get the following Add Service Reference
Error:
There was an error downloading 'http://localhost:62778/testDataService.svc/_vti_bin/ListData.svc/$metadata'.
The request failed with the error message: --- , . . .
If I ignore it and click OK it essentially tells me the same thing:
"There was an error downloading metadata from the address. Please verify that you have entered a valid address."
I am thinking that there is a configuration issue on my machine. Perhaps something needs to be installed or running, . . .
I have tried doing the same steps with a local SqlExpress database, and get the same problem. If I try to go directly to the website via the browser:
http://localhost:62778/testDataService.svc
I get a Request Error.
Any suggestions, thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated!

From the error message "There was an error downloading 'http://localhost:62778/testDataService.svc/_vti_bin/ListData.svc/$metadata'.", I suspect that you created a folder named _vti_bin, and created wcf data service named ListData, in my test
application, from my experience, you issue may be caused by "$metadata", can you give further information to me, there was a
wcf data service quick start, hope this will help you.

Latest Version of Azure SQL Database

What is the latest version of Microsoft Azure SQL Database ? Are there likely updates to newer versions ?

Currently, Azure uses a special version of Microsoft SQL Server as its backend. It provides high availability by storing multiple copies of databases, elastic scale and rapid provisioning, when we check the version of SQL Server, it shows :
Microsoft SQL Azure (RTM) - 11.0.9225.9
