Connecting to Digital Cable TV box

I am trying to connect my video ipod to the front inputs on my cable TV box (rather than having to turn the TV around to reach the back inputs) to watch picture/videos on TV but nothing is happening!!! The cable company says they don't know.
I have the TV Out set on my Ipod and I changed the input on the TV (same as I do for DVD player) and I tried both PAL and NTSC settings on the ipod for the TV.
Any other suggestions??????
By the way, I'm pretty new at all this.
Thanks for you HELP!

Yes, we had a VCR only connected to the coaxial port on the same TV, and it worked fine.
Yes, we have another TV with a coaxial input, and we tried connecting the RF modulator to the other TV and the DVD/VCR, and it only showed static when we turned on the DVD/VCR.
Do you think a brand new RF modulator might be faulty? The DVD/VCR worked just fine when connected to a TV with both a coaxial input and A/V inputs.

  • Samsung Monitor acting strange when connected with digital cable.

I have a Powermac G5 dual 2.7 GHz desktop. I am connecting a Samsung 2233BW monitor. When I connect the monitor from its digital connection using the digital cable I have a problem bringing the monitor back from sleep mode. I get horizontal jagged lines. When I turn the monitor off and back on it works fine again. When I connect the monitor from its analog connection and analog cable using a converter the monitor does not have this problem. Its not the monitor because I had Samsung replace the first one and I still have the problem. Someone told me it was a firmware problem, but Apple support says since no updates show up when I run software updates that everything should be ok. Is there something I can do or do I just have to live with the analog connection?

Have you opened the Mac up lately to see if the graphics card is clear of dust and not overheating?
Does this happen when you first boot up your Mac and then put the monitor to sleep?
Is the monitor set up to default to the digital input?
Most importantly, is it safe to presume that you have tried a new cable?

  • Connecting U-verse digital cable box to new iMac

I was wondering if there was a simple solution to hooking up my digital cable box from U-verse to my new iMac so I could watch TV on it when it is not being used as a computer. Note that I do not care about recording TV onto my hard drive etc., just want the output of the cable box to show up on the iMac screen so I can get rid of the TV in the office? I see the Elgato EyeTV but that seems like overkill, is there a cable plus software solution I can get?

There used to be a lot of posts looking for remote codes that worked for the s-10 remote. The new s-20 is supposed to be more friendly to sound systems. You might call in & ask for one.

How do I use my MacBook Pro to watch exactly what my digital cable box would send to my TV?

You could use Elgato Systems' EyeTV product to view external video sources on your MBP.
There is additional cost involved, but it would achive what you want. You can buy the Hybrid product, and connect your external DVD player via Composite (red, white and yellow connectors) to your MBP via the EyeTV.

  • How do I set up HP TouchSmart 600-1215xt with TV Tuner to Digital cable set top box?

I just purchased the HP TouchSmart 600-1215xt CTO Desktop PC with TV Tuner ATSC-NTSC w PVR & remote. I want to connect it to my  HDTV cable set top box (Cox Cable) so I can record TV programs from digital cable and stream NetFlix  video to my 52 in Samsung 1080p HDTV. Where can I find instructions for how to configure this set up?

There is HDMI input with TV tuner
To expand on my post above, the TV tuner does NOT have HDMI input. If you read the User Guide that came with the TouchSmart (p.7, 8), the TV tuner's input is actually an F-type coaxial -- you either use an antenna for an ATSC signal (over-the-air) or NTSC *analog* cable (which is become more rare all the time). You set it up using Windows Media Center, page 18 through to top half of page 22 document how to connect a set top box using various analog (composite or s-video) cables. You can not use component and you can not use HDMI.

  • Burn DVD off digital cable box?

I tried searching this topic a number of ways so I apologize if this is repetitious, the ones I found just didn't seem to be relevant.
I was just wondering if I could burn a dvd on my mac from a digital cable box?
The box is a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 (Time Warner) and I just noticed it has a USB connection on the front. If I played the recorded program in real time could the mac just burn as it's shown, or does it need to be a file that is download and burned? I would have no idea how to do this.
It's a local public access program so I don't think it would be pirating the show illegally.
    Thanks!

I don't know how you could stream the signal from the cable box directly to the DVD. Take a look at products from Elgato, as they would enable what you want to do, and that may give you an idea what your options are. http://www.elgato.com

  • I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.

I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.
To do this I will need a 2x1 HDMI splitter or a 2x1 HDMI auto switch (preferred).
?Is there any Apple TV HDMI port voltage?
When using a HDMI auto switch to connect two devices to a HDMI TV, the
Auto switch cable box only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.
Do you know of any other solutions? Componets? Actual expierances?
    Full text below.
Cable : HDMI switches expand the number of available HDMI ports on a high definition television allowing connection of cable boxes, Blu-ray players, and game consoles. A side benefit is that cable clutter is also eliminated by running a single HDMI cable to your HDTV from a switch and relocating the HDMI ports to a concealed location. The problem with most HDMI switches is that you have to either get up to push a button, or hunt for the remote control, to switch sources. The true mark of any great switching component is an ability to perform its function and remain transparent in its operation. This automatic HDMI switch is a plug-and-play away from offering everything you are looking for in an HDMI switch. Select a single output from up to three devices for signal delivery to your HDTV. Smart operation provides complete control for connect-and-forget operation. Powering on a device gives it output priority over the other devices. By powering down the device in use, output priority is returned to the last powered on device. Note: Auto switch function only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.

  • My Mac Mini is placed on top of a DVR Digital Cable Box, smart idea?

I just got a DVR Digital Cable Box from Comcast for my LCD TV and i ran out of room on my Desktop, so i placed my Mac Mini on top of the Cable Box, the HD that's built into the DVR is not underneath the Mac Mini so that's good, and the cable box still has a LOT of open holes for ventilation so there's no heat under the Mac Mini.
Also...the HD that's in the DVR is producing vibration which i can feel on my mac Mini when i touch it.
So is my Mini safe or should i buy a little Mini stand, if so then wich one would you reccomend?
    Thanks in advance!

Hello! Most modern electronic devices are shielded to prevent interference and usually the only thing that causes problems are large crt monitors. Go ahead and enjoy! Tom

  • Can apple tv be connected at my cable box

Can my apple tv box be connected thru my cable box? My tv only has one HDMI outlet and it used by the cable box.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Probably not, virtually all, if not all cable boxes will have an HDMI output but not an input, you'd need both to be able to connect your Apple TV this way.

  • Connecting HD digital box to PC LCD with HDMI...is it possible?

I have an LCD PC monitor which is 22'' and has both a DVI (which I'm using with the computer), an HDMI (with HDCP compliance) and a VGA connection.
I was wondering if I could connect an HD cable box to my monitor using an HDMI cable? do I need anything extra? will my monitor display the image correctly?
I would suppose I would have to switch the resolution to 720p (1280x720) right? because there is no broadcast in 1080p yet and I don't think my monitor will accept the interlaced version of 1920x1080...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All you need to do is create 2 partitions on the hard drive. Format the Mac partition as GUID Mac Extended (Journaled) NOT case sensitive. When that's done, connect the drive to your Windows machine and format the other partition you just created with NTFS.

  • How do I return a Digital Cable Box to Verizon?

I was wondering how do I return a digital cable box or exchange it for another box with Verizon? With my old cable company I would just go to one of there local businesses.

If you live in PA, there are no stores (and probably other locations).  You can have Verizon ship a new box (for exchange), and then take the old box to a UPS store where Verizon has a contract for returns.  Be sure to record serial number(s) and get a receipt from the shipper in case of billing problems later.

Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Please advise.

If you have not already done so, I suggest that you temporarily disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express that goes to the Tivo box.
Instead, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop to the Ethernet port on the Express. See if you can get an Internet connection on the laptop.
If you still cannot get an Internet connection on the laptop, try another Ethernet cable that you know is working correctly.
    Post back on your results.

  • Connecting to Digital TV receiver?

    Hi,
This is a bit of a random question...
My ISP (Shaw Cable - Canada) gave me free digital cable with my wireless. However, I dont have a TV and would like to watch TV through my computer. I have no idea what connectors I need to plug the receiver into my computer... or if this is even possible.
The receiver has the classic 3 RCA connections: Left/Right Audio (white & red) and Yellow Video but my MBP has the mini display port. Are there cables that I can get? I have a mini display to VGA adapter that I use for presentations... Can I use that as an intermediary?
Here is a photo of the back of the receiver:

    thanks!

I can't imagine why your "digital TV receiver" only has antiquated analog outputs, but that appears to be the case. I don't know of any way you can feed analog video into your MBP without an analog-to-digital converter box, which will connect to a USB or FireWire port. The mini-Displayport is for output only; nothing can be fed in through it.
There will be no problem feeding the analog audio from your receiver into the headphone or audio-in port of your MBP (depending on which MBP model you have).

  • Connecting HDTV/Dig Cable/Wii/Home Theater Receiver

I have a Samsung 600series HDTV, Yamaha Home Theater Receiver, AT&T Uverse Digital cable box and Nintendo Wii. What is the best way using HDMI and an optical audio cable(s) to route everything through my Receiver? I want to minimize the amount of cables running behind the wall up to my TV.
    Right now I have:
    - HDMI from Digital cable box up to HDTV
    - HDMI from Receiver to HDTV
    - Optical audio from HDTV to Receiver
    - Wii not currently set up b/c I when connected to the Receiver I couldn't find the proper setting to get this to work
In the current set up, I get full audio out of all 5.1 surround sound speakers with the radio, but when the TV/Cable is on I only get sound from the front L & R. I'm sure it has something to with with my set up because I know all 5 speakers work...
    thanks for your help,
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

We use the second set up. Works just fine for us. Routes everything neatly to the receiver with one easy to conceal hdmi cable to the t.v.
