Connecting to Http Proxy on Lion under parental controls

Hello.
Ive been looking for a couple of days for a fix for this. The issue im having is running parental controls on an account (any settings enabled/disabled, even with no web access permissions) and using a proxy (http, https, ftp) to connect to the internet. Connected as a standard/administrator user I can connect to the internet fine, but as soon as parental controls are enabled i cannot. I can't even connect to a local address without an error in the browser.
I have tried this on multiple lion computers with the same outcome.
The error im getting is:
Chrome: is no data received, no server data was sent.Error 324
Firefox is the default connection was reset error
And safari dosen't even give an error just a white screen.
And external programs don't seem to work.
The computer is 100% uptodate.

Parental controls use an internal proxy which ignores the proxy set in Network Preference.  By making the internal proxy non-executable to the user with parental controls request can be passed to the external proxy.
You can run the following command from Apple Remote Desktop as root (or locally with sudo).
chmod a-x /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/FamilyControls.framework/Versions/A/Resources/webfilterctl
Note: This also works in 10.8 which has the same problem.

  • Safari can't connect to server on only some applications (lumosity) and only under parental controls

Under parental controls with the "try to limit access to adult sites" selected, some sites (such as lumosity) give me the can't connect to Safari screen,
while others (facebook, twitter) give me a form to fill out screen, rather than the home page.
    Other websites work just fine.
When I use my own login, all of the sites work just fine.

    Hey Nana1048,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing connectivity issues with your iPad 2. The following resource may help to resolve your issue:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
    1. Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
    2. Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your W-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
    3. Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    4. Restart your iOS device.
    5. Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    6. Tap  and Forget this Network.
    7. Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
    8. Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
    9. Update your device to the latest version of software.
    10. Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
    1. Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
    2. Check for sources of potential interference.
    3. Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
    4. Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including
              - previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
              - recently used Bluetooth accessories
              - VPN and APN settings
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • How come when I block one website under parental controls, other websites become blocked?

I am a teacher and have found it necessary to block facebook. I am doing this under Parental Controls. Unfortunately, my students also frequent an Adobe website, I have discovered that by blocking facebook this site and others are not accessible. I then went and removed the block in Parental Controls and the Adobe site was still not accessible. I discovered that ONLY BY clicking on ALLOW UNRESTRICTED ACCESS TO WEBSITES were my students once again able to access the Adobe site.
Here is URL for the Adobe site: https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel/

  • Connecting through HTTP Proxy

How can I make connection to a port of some remote server when I am connected to internet using HTTP Proxy?

If you are going to use the URL object then set your proxy IP and Port in your system properties before you create your URL object.
    For example:
    System.getProperties().put( "proxyHost", proxyIp );
    System.getProperties().put( "proxyPort", proxyPort );
    URL url = new URL("http://www.foo.com" );

  • Contribute connection problems, http proxy?

I've been trying to set up a contribute connection on a client machine for a while now without any luck, Adobe support haven't been much help at all.
We're using CS4 on a vista machine, connecting to a website via normal FTP. The FTP connection itself seems fine.. and we've connected to the site from this machine with normal ftp and downloaded/uploaded without problems. Don't have any problems setting up contribute on other machines for this site either. One symptom is that contribute always has trouble determining the remote path (on this machine only).
We can connect to the website ok via Internet Explorer on the same machine. However, I noticed that IE is setup to use a proxy server for web connections.
I'm wondering whether this is the problem - can Contribute use a proxy server for the HTTP part of its operation?
    Pat.

If you have specified HTTP proxy in IE, Contribute uses it for HTTP part of the operation. If on that machine FTP is also configured to use a proxy server, in Contribute you can specify the same in the Preferences dialog of Contribute. There is FTP proxy setting in the Preferences dialog, where you can specify the address of the FTP proxy server.
    Hope this helps.

  • AnyConnect on Apple iOS - VPN-Connect via HTTP-Proxy

    Hi,
is it possible, that the AnyConnect-Client for Apple iOS (i.e. iPAD) automatically uses the configured HTTP-Proxy in the WLAN properties for the establishment of the VPN-Connection (via SSL/TLS)?
I've tested it, but it does not work. In the documentation is stated, that VPN establishment via HTTP-Proxy works only in Windows (AnyConnect uses the IE Proxy settings to connect to the ASA for VPN establishment).
    Thanks

As per w2k3 sniffer trace, 2851 requesting with user=vpnfamily and encrypted password. The password "Password1" which is VPN group's key sending to IAS?
->I have "vpnfamily" with password "Password1" but no luck
Event log shows "Fully-Qualified-User-Name = INFRA\vpnfamily". INFRA is AD NetBIOS name. 2851 router's domain name is "family.com"

  • Under Parental Controls

Please help.  I just purchased a new iMac and I was trying to set up the parental controls.  There is a section where you can give access to only certain emails.  I added a few but need to delete some and I have looked everywhere for a delete or edit option and I can't get rid of them.  There is nothing in the small handbook we were given.  I am sure it is something right under my nose, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I'm a bit confused but I'll give it a try.
When you add an allowed contact and check "add person to my address book",  That adds the contact information to your (the administrator) addressbook.  That contact may already exist in your addressbook.  To edit or modify that information you open your Addressbook application.  The two functions are seperate.
You can add allowed email addresses in Parental controls without adding that person to your addressbook or you can select an existing contact in Your addressbook.

  • Controlling email under parental controls for network accounts

I use OS X server (10.8) to mange kids accounts at home, so they can logon to laptop or desktop and all there stuff is there.
This works perfectly as does the profile server ensuring that they have their parental controls set.
I've just stated to look at creating an email account for the older one and found that whilst there is a great 'People' tab in the Systems Preferences parental controls this doesn't seem to exist in profile manger at all.
Does anyone kniow how to setup 'safe' lists of people for inbound and outbound email using profile manager or directory admin ?
    Thanks in advance

But does anyone know the default Parental Controls Settings, specifically under the Other tab?
you can find them out yourself. make a new account and enable parental controls on it. then expand "other" and see what's checked and what's not checked.

  • Why do Lion's Parental Controls have problems?

When I try to open a restricted application on my iMac, it says you aren't allowed to open it, but it keeps on bouncing. Can someone tell me why?

I am also having similar issues - I have controls in place for both week days and weekends, limited to 1hr and 3hrs respectively as well as a limit between 8pm and 6am.
The account is saying that I can login at 12am, this was at 7pm. When we try to login, it also says the allocated time has expired.
    This is wacky.
    Any ideas?
Have you checked your account in System Preferences > Users And Groups and checked that the Parental Controls box isn't ticked for your account?

  • HTTP Proxy setting for SOA server

    Hi,
my intention is to enable SOA Server to connect through HTTP Proxy to external services. This occurred when I am trying to connect to Yahoo Mail Server, via User Messaging Service but it keep throwing connection time out. One of the possible solution is to make the service to connect via the HTTP Proxy server in our network.
There are no mention of how to setup HTTP Proxy connection for UMS, as well as SOA Server in any documents.
Please advice or direct me to the relevant solutions.
    Appreciate any help rendered :)
    yee thian

I have not worked in SoA server, but since it uses weblogic server underlying (I assume), you can try setting the -Dhttp.proxyHost , -Dhttp.proxyPort system properties ( https for secured URL's) to WLS to specify the proxy details. Also the product might not have the capability to pass user credentials for authentication at the proxy. The version of OSB we are using had this problem. To overcome this you might require to add the URL to the proxy free list in your proxy server. This prevents the proxy from prompting for the user name when you access that URL.

  • Did Mountain Lion 10.8.4 broke parental controls again

After update to 10.8.4, parental controls broke again. Any account with parental controls enabled is not able to access youtube and other https sites. Web restriction was set to "allow unrestricted access". I use parental controls to set time limits for my kids. I've tested creating new accounts and the same problem occured. The same thing happened when we upgrade to Mountain Lion initially but was fixed after 10.8.2.
This is frustrating. After many good years with OSX from tiger.. the recent updates have not been the best experience.

    Thanks for your response.
To elaborate, the iMac was already on Mountain Lion 10.8.2. After the recent update to 10.8.4, something within the parental controls broke. Current users as well as new accounts with parental controls turn on will not be able to connect to youtube. Once I turn parental controls off, the users were able to access youtube again. This applies to safari, firefox and chrome.
I've tried various things settings in parental controls but it seems that as long as it is on, the same problem occured.
The same symtoms occured some time ago when I first upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion. It was fixed after the patch right after 10.8.2.
The changes were done using admin account.

  • Websocket and parental control

    Hi all,
It seems that receiving packets with websocket (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebSocket), for a user under parental control, is not possible.
You can easily test this with a website like http://www.netscan.co
A site like http://www.momio.me (not for me, for my 8-year old daughter ) depends heavily on the use of websocket.
Is there any tweak that allows the full use of websocket, yet leave the user under parental control?
Thanks in advance for any useful hint.
    Peter

I think the Cisco connect is not working on your computer and you may need to reinstall the CIsco connect software.
Did you try to change any wireless settings on the router using the Web based setup page of the router. Because if you change the wireless settings of the router using the Web interface then Cisco connect software will stop working and you will get the error message.
You will need to reset the router and reconfigure it.
Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router. Uninstall the Cisco connect software that you have installed before. Run the CD that comes with the router. It will install the Cisco connect software on your computer again.
Once you are able to install the CIsco connect software successfully, you will be able to use the parental control feature.
Do not change the Wireless network name and wireless security key using the Web based setup page of the router otherwise Cisco connect will stop working again.
Use Cisco connect to change the the Wireless network name and password.
If you do not want to use the Cisco connect then you can simply reset the router to factory default settings. Do not run the Cd and reconfigure the router using Web based setup page of the router.
Open the setup page of the router and change the Internet connection settings manually and you will also find the Access restriction tab on the setup page.

  • Default Parental Controls blocks FaceBook

I just updated my family G4 iMac to Leopard.
On the kids' accounts, under Parental Controls -> Content, I chose the "Try to limit access to adult websites automatically"
My older son logged in and hollered that he could not get to his FaceBook page.
    How interesting.
    Way to go, Apple.

    HI,
"Try to limit access to adult websites automatically"
In Parental Controls click the Customize button. You can setup certain sites for "allow" or "deny" ...

  • Parental Controls on WRT1900AC

Hooked this up and love the speed boost at home. Question is: every review said there was an option to set time frames and time limits on devices under Parental Controls. This was one of my main reasons for getting it. Unfortunately it looks like there is just an on/off switch. Am I missing something? If not will this be coming in an update?? If not can you please add it to your list?!
    Thanks!

To set time frames and time limits on devices under Parental Controls, you need to access your Linksys Smart Wifi Account then click and enable Parental Control. After that, select the device that you want to restrict access from the Restrict Internet access on list and click "Specific Times". Here's how to do that: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=25627
