Connecting to internet/new installed software

I have been trouble free with a mac mini using airport express (from a dsl connection) ..
24 hours ago I did a software update for the mac, it was a security topic.. using the preinstalled software update dialogue box.
Since the download, I the computer can not see/search/find the connection to the network.
I switched off the dsl router, and retried after 10 minutes, still nothing.
I have a PC (same house) using the same wireless, and it is fine. (no issues connecting)
Any help? Interesting, prior if I did an update similar to this, a dialogue box usually appeared asking to change my keychain, but this time it has not, perhaps related?

I just picked up a new Core Duo which was maxed out with 2GB RAM. I’m in the process of testing everything else, but I can say with absolute certainty that my network signal is much lower than it ever was using any other computer in my home (and plenty have come and gone).
In the menu, it hovers between one to three ‘bars’.
Fortunately, network access seems to have been consistent so far.
Here is the ping result:

As you can see, toward the end there is some delay in various pings. It isn’t as bad as some samples posted in this thread. A previous ping showed a few more bad results. Firefox (using beta Universal Binary) actually seems to run faster than Safari (believe it or not). Camino runs with blinding speed.
I switched to ‘g’ compatibility only, and tried to disable Bluetooth. Neither ‘solution’ fixed the network strength. It seems reasonable in my eyes that, at this point, it is either a hardware limitation of the Mac Mini, a driver issue, or a combination of both. With such regular issues, I’d be pretty surprised if half are working and half are not. There may be compatibility variance with different routers (I’m using a Linksys).
Back to testing everything else.
Just thought I’d share this tidbit.

  • Mac software not connecting to internet, but installed software does. How to fix?

iTunes, Safari, App Store, etc. behaves as though there is no internet connection. Loading bar on Safari is frozen, iTunes can't access Gracenote for burning CD's. Google Chrome works perfectly fine, Guitar Pro works fine, Evernote works. I've never encountered this problem before. I've tried restarting the computer, shutting it down and turning it on again, and looking for answers on Google. Can anyone here help with this?

You should be able to connect via Ethernet, and that method is simpler than debugging wireless.
the Ethernet light turned Green and said it was connected, but still no internet...
What exactly do you mean by "still no Internet? "
Sometimes you can be connected perfectly well, but problems with Domain Name Servers (DNS) can keep you from loading Web pages.
Try this "litmus test". Get your Ethernet connection green light. Enter this in your browser:
    http://17.149.160.49
if you get to Apple, Inc, you are properly connected.
    http://apple.com
If the symbolic name does NOT connect you to Apple, Inc, you have a Domain Name Server (DNS) problem.

  • Problems connecting to internet after installing Leopard

I have been having problems connecting to the internet after installing Leopard. I have a G5 at my office and use safari and AOL, using a cable modem and router. Everything worked perfect until I installed Leopard. About 3 days after installing Leopard on my G5 I started having problems connecting to the internet. When opening "network" in preferences it tells me I am connected, but I cannot connect. So I have to restart my computer every time in order to connect. Then to top it off, often in the middle of the day I am able to get and send e-mail with AOL, but my Safari does not connect. And even more bizare, if I am connected and sign off my AOL, I lose Safari as well. Brought the G5 into the Mac store and after trying some stuff they told me "it should work now" but ....same problems. So last Monday, I installed Leopard on my Macbookpro which I use at home wirelessly, everything worked well until yesterday when the same issue with my G5 is happening with the macbookpro. No connection, it tells me I am connected, signal is strong, but nothing.....so restart and keep going. What is going on? Anyone else having same problem? Any solutions
    Roberto

    Roberto,
Is the install of Leopard on the G5 and MacBook Pro an upgrade install or a clean install?
Try some simple maintenance to see if this resolves it:
    1. Run Repair Disk Permissions (Disk Utility)
    2. Go to Network Utility and go to Ping enter in www.cnn.com and see if the packets are received/sent. This is just to see if you can get to the outside so to speak
    3. See if your cable modem manfacturer has a leopard upgrade. Sometimes hardware companies need to upgrade their firmware when new Operating systems come out

  • Connecting to internet after installing snow leopard software

I just uploaded the new snow leopard mac os x v10.6 software and after my computer restarted it wouldn't connect to my wifi like it usually does. I'm able to get the connection and it says that there's full bars but my webpage says I am not connected. There's also an exclamation mark where the signal usually is. To get started, try these possible fixes:
    1. Go System Preferences > Network > Location.
Edit location (whatever name you want).
Click + and then click done.
    Try your wifi/browser.
    2. Go Finder > Your HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration.
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to your Desktop for safekeeping.
    Restart.
    Try your wifi/browser.
    3. Go Finder > Your HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration.
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to your Desktop for safe keeping.
Go System Preferences > Network > Delete all locations, and use Automatic.
    Restart.
    Try your wifi/browser.

  • Safari 4 no longer connects to Internet after installing

The Software Update automatically installed Safari 4. Now, Safari 4 errors with "Safari can't connect to the server" regardless of what address (both alphanumeric and numeric) I type in and iTunes errors with "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was refused."
However, Firefox is able to access the World Wide Web and I'm still able to access files on my Windows computers on my network.
    I've already:
    1. Repaired permissions with Disk Utility
    2. Tried Safari in a new user account
    3. Removed the preferences file
    4. Cleared the caches
    5. Deleted .com.apple.safari.plist
    6. Emptied the trash and restarted the computer
But it still cannot access the Internet. I don't see any option to uninstall Safari 4 and go back to Safari 3.

    HI Raymond,
    Try using Open DNS.
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
If OpenDNS doesn't work for you, download the 10.4.11 combo update available here.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html
    Then repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Powerbook Would Connect To Internet, New Macbook Will Not Using Airport....

I purchased a new macbook yesterday and i am having problems connecting to the internet using airport and my belkin wireless router. Whenever i try and connect to the router I get a message saying it is not possible.
My old Powerbook G4 still connects using the same router and airport but the new macbook will only connect via an ethernet cable, I have tried ringing belkin support who do not seem able to help me.
Does anyone have any ideas to help me please?
Thanks in advance for your help........

I had the exact same problem yesterday, and I called Apple support. I had to download a software update (security and OS), and after that, it worked. Some people have suggested trying putting a $ sign before the Belkin password. It didn't work for me, but it might be worth a try. My macbook arrived yesterday and I've had problems with this and the keychain thing (I'm totally new to the Mac), and am still having problems with that. So I'll probably be calling support again today unless I can find a solution to that problem here on the forum.
Good luck with yours, I hope you get it fixed

  • Problems waking up and connecting to internet after MAC Software updates.

My Intel Macbook laptop use to connected to the internet automatically when I turned it on the laptop or woke it up. Now after the last MAC software upgrade this week (which included iTune, iPhoto, MAC 10.4.9 and an Airport upgrade) my PC is having problems connecting to the internet.
It attempts to connect but can't. I end up playing with the settings in Airport internet connections – e.g turning Airport on and off, going to NETWORK -Other and reentering the Network name and wireless security passphrase. Most of the time I have to go into System Preferences – Network and play with these settings e.g. Changing Locations, playing with the network status and eventually, magically it connects and stays connected until the next time I wake up my laptop.
The wireless Macbook laptop is connected to a DLINK Wireless Router (DI-624), using WPA-PSK security. I have tried rebooting both the laptop and the router a number of time and even redid the setting on both the router and laptop.
Is there something else I can check/do??? Can I undo any of the MAC Software updates (thinking about the Airport one)??? I would really like to get back to connecting to the internet automatically.
    Thanks.
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Yeah, the 169.254 addy means it isn't getting a DHCP reply, so it's not connected to anything at all.
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show?Network Port Configurations and checked ON?
The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of Network Port Configurations.
Yes those files get recreated on reboot, (unless critical pieces of the OS are missing for it's defaults), but you don't have to trash/delete them, you can just drag them to the desktop!
But after hearing the latest I might try...
/Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences... the whole Prefs folder there.
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration... the whole SysConfig folder.
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist
Reboot... of course you dont have to trash them, you can just move them to the desktop to drag back if it doesn't work.

  • Problem Connecting to Internet after recent Software Updates from Apple

I have an old iMac 15" flat panel, running OS X 10.3.9, just ran the Software Update an hour ago. Now my computer won't connect to my wireless network via the Airport. I tried to open the Internet Connect apps from Apple and it won't even load, it has this swirling beachball has been on for 15 minutes and it says "Loading Internet Connect..."
Anybody experience something like this! Could this be another Apple blunder with their software update?
I tried, restart, remove the plist of Internet Connect, all those did not help!
    Please help. Thanks

    Try resetting Airport as per this article;
    Resetting AirPort Express
By the way, if your problem has not been solved then leave it as unanswered until such time it is, as you will get more responses.

  • H55M-P33 Can't Connect to Internet or Install the LAN drivers.

I cannot connect to the internet. I have a working ethernet plugged in. I checked the lights and they are working but I still can't connect to the internet. I ran the Windows Troubleshooter and it said that I needed to update my drivers. I tried to install the drivers for networking/LAN and it told me there were no drivers to install. I'm stuck on my crappy laptop until this is fixed

Yes, I installed all of the drivers. A few months later I tried to install Ubuntu and accidentally formatted my hard drive. The internet would not work in Ubuntu, so I tried reinstalling Windows 7. Internet still would not work. I tried doing the troubleshoot in Windows 7. It told me to reinstall the drivers. I put in the disk and tried to but the LAN button is greyed out and I cannot install the drivers.

  • Connected ipod before installing software

I connected my ipod before installing software, now i get the folder icon and exclamation mark and then it turns off. Also the updater seems to freeze and say not valid for my ipod. How do i get it working, it;s new out of the box but won't work, pls help.
    ipod video 60g   Windows XP

First of all. A work of pure genius.
Second I'd say try the five R's which can be found here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/
Also delete anything that has to do with ipod (besides itunes) from the computer. Start anew. Try even restoring your computer to the nearest restore date.
Then, open up your new ipod box, reach in and grab out the INSTRUCTION MANUAL. Now, the INSTRUCTION MANUAL is usually used prior to doing anything with a product. Even a quick run through will give you a basic idea of how to use your newly purchased expensive product. In this manual has instructions. Can you believe that?! They tell you EVERYTHING you need to do to have your ipod working correctly. WOW!
    Enjoy!
p.s. If none of that works, then I'd say to go here: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/ because your ipod is probably defective and you should get a new one.

  • Problem connecting to internet afteer insatlling new software

    Hello,
I apologize if I am in the wrong forum. This was my best guess.
Can anyone explain what the Internet Connect "Authentication Failed" message means. I have recently tried installing a software package called "Notebook" on my eMac PowerMac running 10.4.9. The machine accesses the net through a dial-up connection. Whenever I install the software I am okay until I shut down the machine. After this is cannot access the internet until I completely uninstall all components of "Notebook" and reenter my Network/Internet Connect password and restart a couple times.
I have not encountered the problem running the same software on another Mac–an iMac Intel based running the same system but with a DSL connection.
The support people and user forum at the Notebook website have no ideas that seem to help.
I have never encountered this message in years of happy use of this machine in various places. Is it keychain related? Permissions? I have only a limited idea of how to troubleshoot these issues since they've never come up before.
Any help would be much appreciated. I really need to use the software both at work and at home to justify it's purchase.
    Yours,
    Rick Kesler

    Hello,
I apologize if I am in the wrong forum. This was my
    best guess.
Great guess! It's even possible someone here knows about the software package "Notebook". I don't. But it certainly sounds as if something is messing with your ppp configuration. When you dial up, you're using something called "PPP" (Point-to-Point Protocol). It does several things to establish a link, and then attempts an authentication. There are two main types, PAP (Password Authentication Protocol) and CHAP (Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol).
It's possible that "Notebook" changed that. Or not. I would think the Notebook people would know. The thing to do is run your Console Utility, look at the ppp log, and compare a working connection to one that failed. You'll have a much clearer picture of what went wrong if you look at the logs.
I think one possible workaround would be to create a new user which uses Notebook exclusively. But it's hard to say what will work without seeing what happens in the authentication phase of your ppp attempt.

I knew I'd seen the solution you've provided somewhere - either in MacWorld or MacFormat - but couldn't remember the Gatekeeper bit!
I shall save it somewhere VERY safe now in case this happens again …
You have made an old man very happy and saved me from worrying that senile decay had suddenly set in. (I was 70 last week so you might understand the situation from that.)
