Connecting to iPod speakers/charger?

I have an older iPod (30GB, "classic" model) that I've used to connect to three items in the past and that work fine. Two of them are speakers (the donut one, and another one that's got a radio integrated) and the third is the Monster lighter power/charger cord through which you just have to change the extension and you can charge anything to it (I use it to charge my bluetooth as well, with a different extension, obviously).
My question is this: I just got the new iPhone 3GS and none of these three items will "accept" the phone. The pins fit okay (based on my naked eye) but the screen on the iPhone just tells me that this accessory isn't the right one for the phone. What I'd like to know is if such a thing exists that's like a double plug in, both "male" on either side: one that would accept the "old"/iPod appropriate pins and one that would accept the "newer"/iPhone ones. Just as a "transition" plug from old to new? I really don't want to buy a whole bunch of new speakers. I do think that eventually Monster will create/build a new plug/extension for their car charge kit, so I'm not too worried about that, but I really don't want to have to buy more speakers that might not even accept my older iPod for playing/charging.
Any advice? Thanks.

I asked at an applestore and they said that the new speakers will work with the older iPods, but not the other way around (always).

  • Connection to Ipod speakers

So i have a Ipod Nano 2 GB. ive had it since christmas '05. For the past few months ive been having some problems with connecting my ipod to the speaker that i have for it. When i connect the ipod i have to move the Ipod around slightly to get it to work, and to be able to hear music. When i look at the bottom of the ipod to see where it connects, on one side it is bent down, so im thinking that is why i cant hear anything when listening to it, on the speakers. So, is there anyway i can repair this problem or do i have to go out and buy a new ipod...?

Help me please!!! i just wanna know if i can get it repaired or if i have to get a new ipod!

  • Any way to connect an iPod Shuffle (4th gen) to speakers that will keep it charged continuously?

I'm trying to setup an iPod shuffle connected to small speakers and have it remain charged continuously. Any way to accomplish this?
I need as simple an interface and setup as possible for my blind Grandmother.

No, the current shuffle is a simple device that only has one connection point (the headphones jack) that doubles as the audio output and charging/data connection.  On other iPods that have a separate docking connector, you can connect it to something like a USB power adapter and use the separate headphones jack to connect to the speakers.  On a shuffle, you are either connecting it to power/data or you are connecting it to headphones (or the speakers).  You can't do both at the same time.
It is a good idea to use a shuffle for this purpose, because it is easy to use without the need to look at any screen.  If you can find a used 1st gen shuffle in decent shape, pictured here in this document
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
it may actually work.  That first shuffle has a built-in USB plug (like a USB flash drive), plus a separate headphones jack.  Get a USB power adapter like this one
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD810LL/A/apple-5w-usb-power-adapter
and a USB extension cable that is long enough to provide comfortable access.  Connect the extension cable to the power adapter, and the shuffle to the other end.  I just tried it (without the extension cable) using my 1st gen shuffle, and it seems to charge and play at the same time.  I can't be 100% sure because I only played it that way for a few minutes.  It might be shutting off the charging while it is playing, but that would not make any sense from the designer's perspective.
The added benefit in your case is that the battery on the used shuffle does not need to be strong, because it is always connected to power.  And the shape of the 1st gen shuffle is better, because it is long and narrow (like a remote control), not a tiny square.  Also, the 1st gen shuffle has REALLY excellent sound quality.

  • Connecting Ipod nano to Logitech mm50 ipod speakers

I just bought the Logitech mm50 Ipod Speakers and can't hear the sound from my Ipod Nano over the speakers. I have fully charged the battery with the included charger and now want to listen to the music using the included adaptor (which plugs into the wall) to no avail. The Ipod shows the songs are playing, but we can't hear them. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, can you help me solve this one, short of returning it to the store?

    Hi Sabir,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The Creative speakers should work with the iPod as long as they have a standard headphone jack. I saw some connections from Creative to the iPod, but they were not rated.

  • Ipod only charges for a few seconds when connected through USB

Hello. Thank you for reading. I recently got a replacement ipod. No problem with putting songs back on the new one. However, whenever i plug my ipod into the usb cord on my work computer to charge my ipod, the do not disconnect will come on and the ipod will charge for about 20 seconds and then stop charging and go back to the main menu on my ipod. The only way i can get it to continue to charge is to click on update my ipod on itunes, and that ain't fun. Help smarter ipod users, you are my only hope!

Try to connect your iPod without the USB Hub
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes

    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.

  • Ipod Touch Charges but does Not connect.

    Hello,
I do not know much about computers and even less on how to fix any issues but here is my problem
When I connect my Ipod Touch, it will charge but will not show up in my computer. I have a Dell Laptop Windows 7.
here is what I have tried
Uninstalled Itunes and then Reinstalled it. (I deleted Everything related to iTunes)
Rest iPod by holding the Power and Home button. I even Turned it off and then On.
I went into my Computer under Services and Stopped then started my Apple Mobile Device and made sure it was on Automatic Start Up Type.
Plugged it in my Sister's Laptop and it installed the linked to her iTunes no problem.
    ANy ideas?

    Did you do everything here:

  • IPod not Charging, or Connecting to iTunes when Plugged into the Computer

I cracked the screen a few weeks ago. When I plug it into the computer, it does not charge, and it is not recognized. BUT, if I use the same USB cable, I can charge it using a wall charger.

    You can try here:

However, if you have acces to aonther computer that is know to connect to iPods I would try the other computer first.  The iPod damage may be causing the problem

I'm guessing you don't have Apple Care on it.

That is about normal. You can maximize battery life by changing some settings. See:
    Apple - Batteries - iPod
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace your battery for less. Google for more.

Replace the battery yourself if you are up to it. You can purchase a replacment for about $10
