Connecting to Linksys WAP4400N w/ WPA

I'm not an Apple expert by any means so forgive my ignorance. Dealing with a PowerMac G5. It sees the WAP and asks for the WPA password. However, it never connects and gets an IP address. I have 4 Windows XP laptops connecting to the same wireless network and all 4 work fine. Is there a setting somewhere that needs to be altered?

Hi,
I'm no expert on PowerMacs myself but lets see if I can help.
1) Could you share the Wireless settings on your PowerMac?
2) What Mac OS X version are you running?
3) What version of Airport ?
Airport Express is a new product that offers Wireless 802.1n connectivity and its portable. Its a small box.

  • Just connected a Linksys plw400 extender to my wifi network & IPad 2 looses Wifi connection

Just connected a linksys plw400 to my wifi network and now my ipad2 can see the network but cannot connect.  When I disconnect the linksys plw400 my IPad2 will connect albeit a weak signal which is why I bought the extender which works fine with my Dell laptop and Galaxy S3 can anyone help me with this issue?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • E-51 Packet loss with Linksys WAP4400N Access Poin...

I have two Nokia E-51 that connect fine with multiple Access Points but seem to have trouble with the Linksys WAP4400N device.
The phones connect fine and are ping-able but experience random and heavy packet loss intermittently. Since I am using this WLAN for SIP services its almost impossible to have a SIP conversation using this setup.
I have setup multiple other access points and they work fine with this phone. The linksys also works fine with other phones (Windows CE Imate, numerous laptops) so I am unable to figure out where the problem is.
    Anybody else with similar issues?

This happened in two more ports during the following month. Again, resetting the port and applying the macro solved the issue. In the last month we haven't had any problems
Well Tiago, you're in a dilemma.  Cisco recently announced the EoS for the 2960S.  This means that the 2960X cannot run a more stable IOS, like 12.2(55)SE9 or 15.0(2)SE4, but I do know is that there's a move within Cisco to significantly improve the performance of the 2960X IOS.  This means that the developers have "opened their doors" to any (violent) comments/reactions.
Contact your SE and, as Americans like to say, "let them have it".  All of it.
I know what I'm saying because some 2960X-related team has been listen to my complaint about the lack of performance of TDR for the 2960X.  The supporting documents about this topic were quickly knocked up by Cisco and move is underway.  If my issue is that small, your issue is bigger and will get more attention.

  • Airport express 802.11b doesn't connect to Linksys E3000

airport express 802.11b doesn't connect to Linksys E3000
Linksys told tha de the device does not support WPA security
    BUT
the device has capability to WPA and it was working on Linksys WRT 310n v2
    is out there an solution?

If you have tried numerous default resets, then the Express is defective. Normally, it displays a solid amber light...or no light.... when an internal component fails, but I've seen the solid green as well.
If it's in warranty, Apple will replace the device.
If it's not....and you want to try a real longshot....carefully saw open the case along the center seam to open up the device.  You might get really lucky and find something obvious like a connector that has come loose, or something similar.

  • T41 23739FU - wireless card connects to WEP, but not WPA

I have a T41 that has, according to Device Manager, a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI card. The system's product id is 23739FU. The problem I have is the system will not connect to a router using WPA encryption, but will connect to an open network or one using WEP encryption. Is this card only capable of connecting to WEP or an open network? Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the forum!
Your T41 has a non-genuine wireless card, and a rare one at that.
Spend $10 or thereabouts on an Intel 2200BG and you'll be able to use WPA encryption with no issues.

  • Can only connect to Linksys E4200 when very close but PCs can connect at 50 feet. What's the solution?

Can only connect to Linksys E4200 when very close but PCs can connect at 50 feet. What's the solution?

If you're technically comfortable in getting to your Linksys settings - try changing the network mode or channel in your router's settings.
I still use my old Linksys router and when it's set to the default channel, which is 7, my Macbook Pro and Macbook Air sometimes have issues - changed the channel to 9 and have had no issues since.
Maybe it might work for you.
In any event - screenshots below are for your E4200 and play with those settings and see if any of the changes you've made improves how your Macbook connects.  Before you change any settings, just remember what the old settings are in case you need to go back to your old settings.
    Good luck.

  • Airport will not connect to Linksys router after iDisk sync force quit

    Hi,
Hoping someone can help me here, kinda at my wits end.
A week ago I was video ichatting and restarted my MacBook because the video feed was sluggish. I thought a restart would help.
Unknown to me was that my iDisk was syncing. I recieved an warning dialogue box and was given the option of canceling the restart or force quitting the iDisk sync. I choose to force quit and proceed with the restart. After choosing to continue with the force quit I received an error message, it had the phrase "Mirror Agent" in it, and then my MacPro restarted.
Since that first restart, I have not been able to connect, using Airport, to my Linksys Wireless router (model # WRT54 GX4).
This is where it gets strange. Airport sees the router, displays a signal strength, shows up on my list of perfered networks...it displays all of the signs of a fully connected router but when I try to access the web, check mail or use iChat I cannot because Safari, Mail and iChat tell me that I am not connected to the internet.
When I ran the network dianogistic tool, it first asked me why I would want to run it because it thought I was already connected. After running the tool it still came back with the same results, I was connect to the internet. But I still couldn't launch Safari, it just hung.
This is where it gets really wierd. My wife, she's on a HP, can connect, using her built-in wireless card. Even after changing the Firmware on the Linksys router, her pc can still connect.
And here's the icing on the cake. There are some unprotected wireless networks on my street. I can connected to those but not my own! Something has to be blocking the signal between my AirPort card and the Linksys router. Does that make sense?
And if there is one saving grace to all of this, I still can connect to the web using the built-in Ethernet.
    Here's what I have tried:
Removed Perfered Network, restarted MAC, added network back, still no connectivity.
Removed security (was using WPA/WPA2) from the router still no connectivity.
Removed Airport Keychain, restarted MAC, added router back, still no connectivity.
Repaired the permissions on my HD, someone at work told me to try that, still no connectivity.
Updated firmware to Linksys router to version 1.00.20, no connectivity.
Rebooted Linksys router and cable modem, still no connectivity.
Thank you to all in advance for reading my rambling note and forgiving my poor spelling (it is way past my bedtime and the keys are really blurry). I am still very new to Mac's and appreiciate any help that you can provide.
    Cheers,
    Alan

Sounds like you have two wireless networks on the same channel.
Change the channel on the Airport Express.

  • Cannot make WiFi connection with Linksys X2000

    Hey ,
I have been setting up my Cisco X2000 wireless router recently and I have it working fine for my wired connections, however for some reason when you try to use the wireless none of our smartphones,  can connect, unless using a wireless guest account.
I tryed different security settings with different passwords, but none worked (WEP, WPA, WPA2...)
Can someone help me out on this problem? I can't imagine what would be causing this.
    Firmware Version: v2.0.05
    Thanks,
    Karel
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Got  my solution from the Live chat:
Jermine P: Here are the steps to set up the router for cable connection:
Step 1 - Hard reset the router to ensure that all previous settings would be erased, please follow the instructions below.
    1. Make sure that the device is turned on.
    2. Press and hold the reset button at the back for 1 minute. Use a paper clip to do the reset.
    3. Remove the power plug and wait for another a minute.
    4. Turn on the device again.
Step 2 - Access the setup page.
    1. Connect the main PC to port one of the router and restart it. Connect the modem to the Internet port.
    2. Launch your browser (like Internet Explorer). In the address bar, type http://192.168.1.1 and hit GO.
    3. A login prompt will come on, leave the User Name blank and type admin for the Password.
Step 3 - Setting up the router to work with your ISP.
    1. Under Setup tab, click on MAC address clone sub-tab.
    2. Enable MAC Address Clone and click on Clone My PC's MAC.
    3. Click "Save Settings" button.
Step 4 - Personalizing the wireless settings of the router.
    1. Click on the Wireless tab and set it to Manual.
    2. Change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) from "linksys" to your preferred name (example: My Network).
    3. Set Channel Width to 20Mhz and change the Wireless Channel from Auto to 11.
    4. Set SSID Broadcast to Enabled.
    5. Click "Save Settings" button.
Step 5 - Securing your wireless network.
    1. Click on the Wireless Security sub-tab just beside Basic Wireless Settings.
    2. Change the Security Mode from None to WPA2 Personal.
    3. Type any word on the Passphrase field for and take note of it.
    4. That will be the Password for you to connect to the wireless network.
    5. Click "Save Settings" button.
    Step 6 - Power Cycle.
    a. Shut down the computer.
    b. Unplug the power cord of the router followed by the modem.
    c. After 3 minutes, plug the power cord of the modem back in and wait for the power light to get solid before plugging the router back in.
    d. Turn the computer back on as soon as the power light on the router becomes solid.
    e. Check your Internet connection.
strange thing is that I set the modem up this way in the first place, but without the power resets and it didn 't work.
Thanks to Jermine P for the efforts taken.
    Greetings,
    Karel

  • Toshiba laptop with Atheros AR5008X won't connect to Linksys WRT350N

Please excuse the level of detail, but I believe you need a reasonably complete picture if you are to understand the problem well enough to give a complete answer.
    SETUP & BACKGROUND
I have three N-compliant devices and several G-compliant devices on my network. I also have two routers, one being used an an access point. The first is a Linksys WRT350N; the second is a Linksys WRT54G. I have the G router connected as an access point so that I can reserve the N router for the N devices and achieve N speeds.
    N devices:
Toshiba laptop; network adapter is Intel 4965AGN.
Toshiba laptop; network adapter is Atheros AR5008X
    Lexmark Wireless printer
    Router settings:
WRT350N: Security Mode WPA2 Personal; Encryption AES; Network Mode N-only; Radio Band 40MHz.
WRT54G: Security Mode WPA Personal; Encryption AES; Network Mode Mixed
The best I can recall, I set the WRT54G to WPA Personal instead of WPA2 Personal because one of the G-compliant devices did not list the WPA2 Personal setting -- but this is based on memory only.
To reserve the WRT350N for the N devices and achieve N speeds, I set the Wireless Mode to N-only and Radio Band to 40MHz., and each router broadcasts its own unique SSID. Once I set everything up, I saw a substantial increase in the link speed reported by the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor (I realize there are issues about taking these numbers at face value, but let me continue). The Toshiba Connectivity Doctor reported WRT350N link speed at 130 Mbps and everything appeared to be working well.
    PROBLEM
Until recently, no problems were apparent; the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicated the two laptops connected to the WRT350N at 130 Mbps, the printer connected to and printed via the WRT350N, and all G devices connected through the WRT54G. Recently, however, network performance declined and the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicated erratic link speeds ranging from 1 Mbps to 130 Mbps.
I found through a little research that my quest to reserve the WRT350N router for N devices lacked one element: according to Linksys help for the router, setting the N Transmission Rate to anything other than Auto results in denying access to B/G clients.
I set the N Transmission Rate to 270 Mbps (the highest setting). The Linksys printer works fine and the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicates a solid 130 Mbps link speed for the Toshiba laptop with the Intel 4965AGN adapter card.
The other Toshiba (with the Atheros AR5008X adapter card), however, is now only able to connect to the WRT54G (the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicates a solid link speed of 54 Mbps to the G SSID). If I reset the WRT350N N Transmission Rate to Auto, the Toshiba with the Atheros card can once again connect to the N Router -- but the erratic link speeds and the network degradation returns also.
I have verified that the Atheros AR5008X network adapter is N-compliant. There aren't many settings on the Atheros AR5008X adapter card configuration, but I can find no documentation on the Internet for this card.
As far as I can determine, all firmware is up to date for both routers and all drivers are up to date for both adapter cards.
I'd love to know what changed in the first place, but I'm more concerned with fixing this problem. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get the Atheros adapter card to connect to the WRT350N with the N Transmission Rate set to something other than Auto?

Atheros adapters using windows drivers wont work with N routers, ive read somewhere

  • E70 can only connect with Linksys by Easy WLAN

I have an E70 since apr 2007 and used it without problems.
I bought a new router : Linksys Ultra RangePlus N Router.
Then I configured the router and my three other devices: laptop, Maemo N810 internet tablet and my HP WLAN printer connected without a problem.
    But not my phone.
I set up WPA/WPA2 and filled in the key.
I see my router in the list of accessible Wifi hotspots and when I try to connect but then it says 'No WLAN network found'.
Restarting the phone and router did not help.
I removed MAC address filtering (despite my phone's MAC address is in the filter), did not help.
I put the Mixed mode (B/G/N) to Mixed (B/G) and then it said 'WPA key authentication failed'. Filling in the WPA key on the phone did not help.
Then I set on the phone TKIP encryption disabled, and then the router doen not appear anymore in the list.
And then I tried Easy WLAN , I selected my router SSID and filled in the key and Voila it worked.
But why is it not in the list of accessible Wifi hotspots ? Now I have to fill in the key every time when I connect to my own hotspot because I can only access it via Easy WLAN.
    Any ideas on this ?

  • AirPort to Linksys WRT54G w/WPA

So it's the holidays and I'm at my mother's house, where someone set up a wireless network through a Linksys WRT54G. Through her computer we printed up the router's security info, but the network seems to be carefully hidden--nothing shows up under the AirPort drop-down menu. When I use Internet Connect to try and log in manually, the available fields don't seem to match so that I'm not ever sure I'm doing it right.
Linksys, for example, uses a "WPA Pre-Shared Key" but my PowerBook's Internet Connect menu only offers WPA Personal or WPA Enterprise. Which one to use? Neither seems to be working--WPA Personal seems to get closer than any other method, recognizing the network but not connecting.
Does all this stuff about TKIP and algorithms have anything to do with anything?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Will the iPad Mini connect to LinkSys WRT54G Router

Will the iPad Mini connect Via WiFi to a LinkSys Wireless G Braodband Router?
The model is WRT54G V5, SN CDFBOE865514 and Firmware is the latest 1.02.8 dated 5 Oct 2009
My wife's iPad 2 connects to it well but we have been unable to connect the new iPad Mini to it.
I have read in some of your notes that the Mini will only connect to Firmware 1.02.8n.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Problem with AEBS-N connecting to Linksys WRT54G over WDS

I have been trying -- without success -- to connect a new Airport Extreme Base Station-N to an existing Linksys WRT54G. The two devices can communicate over WDS without any encryption but they will not connect via WDS using WPA or WPA2.
The two MacBooks and the WinXP desktop work fine with the WRT54G over WEP, WPA, or WPA2. All three computers can communicate with the AEBS. The problem is getting the WRT54G and AEBS to communicate over WDS with encryption other than WEP.
Phone calls to tech support at Apple and Linksys were not productive. The Apple rep walked through all the steps to have AEBS-N join a network via WDS and he found no errors in my setup. He then connected me to the next level support for additional help. The second Apple wireless support tech reviewed the situation and said he had no additional information. Both Apple and Linksys support reps suggested I to "call the other company if their device isn't working" or "post feedback so the developers will be aware." Apple tech support had no details (or none they are willing to share) about how WDS works under WPA/WPA2 in their product; I asked for specific details thinking that a third-party Linksys firmware might offer additional modifications to make the two devices compatible. The Linksys rep was similarly unhelpful in giving WDS details.
I am fine with using a third-party firmware for the WRT54G if someone has the settings to make these two devices work together.
This is frustrating because both Apple and Linksys tech support said their products will run WDS under WPA or WPA2 but only with their own products. I suspect each firm has created proprietary WDS implementations because WDS is only a mechanism and not a technical standard (www.ieee802.org/1/files/public/802architecturegroup/802-11/4-address-format.doc).
I would appreciate any information that might allow upgrading from WEP to WPA/WPA2.
    Details:
    AEBS: model A1143, firmware 7.3.2
    AirPort Utility v5.3.2
WRT54G: version 4 (first four of S/N: CDFA), Linksys firmware 4.21.1
Desktop: Dell Dimension 4800, WinXP-SP3, Linksys WUSB54G (USB wireless access)
Macbook #1: new aluminum Macbook (late 2008), OSX 10.5.5
    Macbook #2: white Macbook (mid-2008), OSX 10.5.5
(I am happy to post additional tech details and/or log files upon request).

Done. I powered off the Airport Extreme Base Station, restarted it and AirPort Utility, and connected to the MacBook via ethernet cable. I then used AirPort Utility to turn off the Airport wireless connectivity in the Extreme Base Station and configured it in Bridge Mode. The Base Station restarted and showed a green light. However, when I went to reactivate Airport as "join WDS network," the light continued to glow green but, there were obvious network problems:
    - ping command to the Airport Extreme Base Station resulted in 100% packet loss, even if the AEBS was connected to MacBook by ethernet cable
    - turning off MacBook wireless connectivity resulted in the MacBook being able to see the AEBS, but the AEBS cannot connect to the Linksys router

  • HP 3052 A connect to Linksys WRT54G V8

How can I get an HP 3052A to connect to a Linksys WRT54G V8 wireless router?

    Hi Vic4AU,
The Linksys WRT54G v8 router has a "Secure Easy Setup" button on it that might work with the WPS push button connection method on your printer.
From the front panel of the printer, navigate to wireless, wireless settings, WIfi Protected Setup, Push button. Press and hold the Cisco logo button on the router for 3 seconds once the front panel of the printer prompts you to.
If you are using the printer software to connect the printer to the network, another thing you can try is to login to your router and change the encryption to WPA or WPA2 or you can change the channel of the router to channel 11, then run the software again to see if the printer connects.
Please click the blue Kudos star in the post that helped you.
