Connecting to Mac bound to a Windows domain from Windows

I have a 2010 MBP running OSX 10.6.7 which is "bound to the [my company name] domain" (that's how our corporate IT department describes it; not sure if this is technically accurate).   We have a mixed Mac/Windows environment but are predominantly Windows based (I log onto my Mac using my Windows user id/password).
I'm trying to access shared files on this machine from a Windows 7 machine on the same domain.
Before I had my Mac bound to the Windows domain, I was able to access my shared files by following the instructions in OSX help (I enabled a shared folder, added my Windows username and password as a local admin on my Mac, turned on SMB access for that user, and all was good).
Now that my Mac is bound to the domain, I can access the directories associated with the local user account I have on my Mac by connecting from my Windows machine as a different user and then entering the account name and password associated with my local user on the Mac.
I can't access the directories associated with my Windows account.
I tried adding a local user (sharing only) to my Mac with the same userid/password as my Windows account, but this prevented me from logging into my corporate network from my Mac, so I deleted this local user.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
thanks.

Partial success: after some experimentation with my local IT guru, I'm now able to access my home directory (which is tied to a network account, not a local one), but I can't access it using my Windows user ID/password.
Here's what we worked:
Confirm sharing is enabled for desired folder, SMB sharing is turned on, my local user account has access to this folder (in the users section of the file sharing dialog), and this local user account is enabled for Windows sharing.  [This is no different from what we had previously done]
Get Info on the same desired folder and give read/write access to the folder (help doesn't mention anything about this step; I'm assuming that in normal use - where you're using a local account instead of a Centrify network account - you don't need to do this because you have access to these folders by default.  In my case, since I'm sharing a folder in the directory associated with my network account instead of the directory associated with my local account, these permissions are not enabled by default.
Log onto my Mac from a Windows machine using my Mac's local username/password.  [Again, this is no different that what I was doing previously, but because of step 2, I can now access the folder associated with my network user]
I'd prefer to just stick with a single user id/password, but this at least lets me access my files.

    Yes, you can.
You will need to configure the virtual network switch as either internal or external.
Then, you'll need to specify the IP address of the virtual Domain Controller as a DNS Server on the Windows 8.1 device.

  • If I reboot to Windows directly from Windows (bootcamp options), I cannot launch a vm in Hyper-V

    Hello guys,
If I reboot to Windows directly from Windows (bootcamp options) or press "option" key and select Windows after power on iMac, I cannot launch a vm in Hyper-V anymore (the Windows Phone 8 emulator to be precise). It says hardware virtualization is not enabled in BIOS.
When I boot Windows from OS X > Startup Disk > Boot Windows or boot OS X and reboot iMac and boot Windows after press "option" key and select Windows, I can launch a virtual machine in hyper-V, so that's cool.
    How it fix? Any ideas?
    iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), Windows 8.1, OS X 10.9-10.10

You should always use System Preferences -> Startup Disk. It enables the CSM-BIOS layer. When you use the Option Key, Windows will come up, but underlying CSM-BIOS layer is not invoked. The Hyper-V depends on BIOS settings, it will only work when using the Startup Disk option.

  • Lenovo Y570 problems after updating to Windows 10 from Windows 7

Hi everyone, I updated my operating system to Window 10 from Windows 7 four days ago and I am having a ton of problems. I lost a lot of my Lenovo interface options as well...  One of the worst and most annoying problems is that randomly, for half a second, the computer stops and thinks which freezes up my typing. If I am writing something, when it wants to freeze it prevents me from typing that letter. It basically overrides my keyboard well it does that freezing for half a second. Also, when I have a drop down menu it will close when this happens or when I right click, the menu will disappear when this "glitch" happens. One of the biggest clues I found is under the task manager. In the Processes tab, when this "glitch" happens "Windows Problem Reporting" pops up for a half second. I am not sure if that is causing this problem or if something goes wrong and "Windows Problem Reporting" pops up because of something else? Is there a way to check and see what these "Windows Problem Reporting" are? My other problems are that my fan control does not work anymore. I had the option to control the speed and the sound of my fan before updating to Windows 10. Would Lenovo or Windows 10 ever going to sent a drive to fix this problem? Also, I can not control my GPU switch anymore. Before the update I could change my GPU from Intel HD card to Geforce 555M. Now I have no idea what GPU I am using and how to go back and forth. Is there a fix for this? Since all these problems occurred with the Windows 10 update, would it be better for me to go back to Windows 7 and wait to see if Lenovo and Windows ever going to create drives for Lenovo Y570? Is it advisable to switch back W7 and switch back to W10 later?

  • Connecting a Mac Pro to A printer on local windows network

I apologize in advance if this question has been asked/answered before. I couldn't find in forum.
I am trying to connect my MacPro to a network printer on a windows computer set up for printer sharing.
I have tried everything [all OSX help files, network setup, even purchased a printer server, etc] but nothing works. I've installed windows xp pro with boot camp and while in windows, I can use the network printer, but not from Mac OSX.
I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance

How about OS X System Preferences => Sharing.
You need to enable the services you want to use which will also open the ports used and unblock in the firewall.

I go on win machine and set windows domain, enter user1 and password and I can join to my domain.
Reboot machine and logon screen appear.
MYDOMAIN is the domain in SMB service, winmachine is the name of win pc used for test.

    Yes, you can.
You will need to configure the virtual network switch as either internal or external.
Then, you'll need to specify the IP address of the virtual Domain Controller as a DNS Server on the Windows 8.1 device.

    Hi,
I dont know if this solve your problem.
The SCAN IP and VIP IP work together.
The connection of clients to the database is not established by SCAN IP but by VIP IP.
When a SCAN Listener (SCAN VIP) receives a connection request, the SCAN Listener will check for the least loaded instance providing the requested service.

  • Upgrade to windows 8 from windows 7

I heard that by upgrading to windows 8 straight from windows 7 on your mac, then you don't have to face the driver issues.
I just want to ask whether anyone tried that way before.

It works for some depending on their particular setup and hardware configuration. Windows 8 is not supported by Bootcamp. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899.
Many here have tried it. Search the posts.

  • Keyboard not working after restoring windows 7 from windows 10

Last Friday (7/31/15), I upgraded Windows 10 on my Sony laptop from Windows 7 Home Premiums. My Windows 7 worked fine before the upgrade. After upgrading to Windows 10, I had experienced issues with my Outlook mails (send/receive errors) and other apps (iTunes did not run, Google Chromes did not run, etc.) that I had under Windows 7. With Windows 10, I did not see my iPad or iPhone when trying to connect to my laptop, either.
With these issues/problems, I decided to restore back to Windows 7 (8/4/15). Windows 7 was restored on my laptop, and I am able to see my familiar screen, but my keys are frozen! I tried to navigate by clicking my mouse or hitting any key on my laptop, but nothing happens. I tried to reboot my laptop with different ways below, hoping to resolve the frozen keys but still did not work.
Turn off my laptop and open in "safe mode", "safe mode with network", "safe mode with command", and "start windows normally". (tried many times)Remove the laptop battery, let it sit for 1 - 5 minutes, put back the battery, and turn on the laptop. (tried many times)  Please help!!!!! I haven't been able to use my laptop since the upgrade to Windows 10 (July 31, 2015) and restore to Windows 7 (August 4, 2015).

Sounds like you've done everything right. Delete the prefs again, following the instructions here: Replace Your Preferences
If that doesn't work, take another look at what else is running and turn off stuff that you don't need to see if there's a conflict, and wait to see if Bob pops in.
As a last resort, uninstall again, then run the clean script befor you reinstall: Run the CS4 Clean Script
This was a clean install of Win 7, not an inplace upgrade over Vista, right? The upgrades are known to be iffy, so if that's what you did, think about doing a clean install instead.

  • [HP 2000-bf69WM] DOwngrading back to Windows 7 from Windows 8, drivers?

I am done with Windows 8. The needle in the coffin is UEFI and dual booting linux.
Is there another laptop model I can pull Win7(64bit) drivers from?  I know my model does not have Win7 drivers directly available from HP but I see some people are getting replies from HP to use another models drivers.
    Thanks guys.

    ****Disclaimer*****
HP doesn't recommend the installation of Windows 7 on a consumer computer shipped with Windows 8, nor will it support the installation of Windows 7. HP may not provide Windows 7 drivers and suitable drivers may not be available for the hardware in the computer. Also, Windows 7 may not support some of the hardware or software features designed for the computer.
Make sure you create your HP Recovery Discs or USB Flash Recovery media before modifying or changing ANYTHING.
    You will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the "BIOS Secure Boot cofiguration" on the settings page shown below, before you can attempt to install Windows 7;
Additionally, as the hard drive is most likely partitioned as GPT, you will have to boot the computer using the "UEFI - CD/DVD drive" or "UEFI - USB Flash drive" options in the "F9" boot menu. If "UEFI - CD/DVD drive",  "UEFI - USB Flash drive" or something to that effect doesn't exist in the boot menu, please post a screen shot and/or descibe the listed boot options.
I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best intallation experience. If you need Windows SP1, please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" to download and create your own Windows 7 SP1 disc. If the DVD refuses to boot as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive (may require DISABLING "Fast Boot" in the BIOS) as the installation media. Please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash drive. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid UEFI enabled USB Flash drive if it is formated as NTFS and may require a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer, or WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, as it has options for "GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer" and "FAT32".
    If you still have missing or unknown devices after installing the drivers, please post the Windows Device Manager's "Hardware Ids" (just the string of text will do) for those devices as shown in the example below;

  • Upgrade dv6-6c19tx to windows 8 from windows 7

    Hi,
I bought my laptop at year 2012, by default the operation system is Windows 7
and I just upgrade the windows to windows 8
btw I found out that some of the driver that listed in the Windows 7 download list is missing in Windows 8 list.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=my&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4132&product=5215558&sw_la...
    1. those missing driver can i use the one which in windows 7?
    2. some driver is same name so which one should I use? both also have to install or just use the lastest?
eg. in the window7 list have 2 "IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver" with different ver?
    thanks

    Hi @noob1988 ,
I see that you purchased your notebook in 2012 and it came with Windows 7 and you have updated it to Windows 8.
Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8
When there is more then 1 update listed you only need to install the latest unless it specifically states that you need to install the previous one first.
Be sure to do all your Windows updates.
You can then try Using automated troubleshooting (Windows 8).
If you are missing any drivers install the one listed for Windows 7 from the download page and then run the HP Support Assistant to look for any updates.  The support assistant will only look for updates if HP drivers are originally installed.
I hope this helps and Happy New Year!

Turn off Windows update , follow this.
Also go through this thread, try the suggestion from HP Expert @Nuccii
To do System recovery, follow this - try System refresh instead of Factory reset so that data, files and settings would be preserved. Nevertheless always backup all your data to an extrenal hard drive before doing any sought of recovery.
System restore won't help if you've upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 & want to go back to 8.

  • [Forum FAQ] Error 0xc0000428 when booting Windows 8 from Windows 7 BCD

    Scenario
To better analyze this issue, I introduce my test environment firstly.
I have installed Windows 7 and Windows 8 in separate disks (Figure 1)
Disk1 (only one partition, C drive): storing BCD
Disk2 (only one partition, D drive): storing Win 7 system files
Disk3 (only one partition, E drive): storing Win 8 system files
    Figure 1.
Then I performed the steps below to boot Windows 8:
Step 1: Boot the computer from Operation System installation media, then I formatted Disk1 to NTFS and activated it via Diskpart Command-Line Utility. You can use the commands
below in order to achieve that (Figure 2):
    List volume
    Select volume x
    Format fs=ntfs quick
    Active
    Figure 2.
Step 2: I copied the boot files from Windows 7 disk via BCDboot command below:
    Bcdboot d:\windows /s c:
Step 3: I edited the BCD file to add an entry for Windows 8 using the command below:
    Bcdedit /store c:\boot\bcd /create /application osloader
Steps 4: Since the command above will create a GUID of a new boot object for Windows 8, we can use the following command to represent the GUID:
    Bcdedit /store c:\boot\bcd /set {GUID} device partition=E:
    Bcdedit /store c:\boot\bcd /set {GUID} osdevice partition=E:
    Bcdedit /store c:\boot\bcd /set {GUID} description “win8”
    Bcdedit /store c:\boot\bcd /set {GUID} path \windows\system32\winload.exe
    Bcdedit /store c:\boot\bcd /set {GUID} systemroot \windows
    Bcdedit /store c:\boot\bcd /displayorder {GUID} /addlast
Steps 5: I checked the BCD files by running bcdedit command. (Figure 3)
    Figure 3.
    Symptom
When I rebooted the computer and selected Windows 8 Operating System to boot, then I encountered the following error message (Figure 4):
    File: \windows\system32\winload.exe
    Status: 0xc0000428
Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file
    Figure 4.
    Cause
This issue is due to the bootmgr file, we cannot use the bootmgr file of Windows 7 to find the Windows 8 Operating System files.
    Solution
According to my scenario, I just need to replace the bootmgr file with the bootmgr file residing in the root directory of Windows 8 Operating System.
If you want to replace it via the command prompt, it is necessary to un-hide the hidden file in the root directory of C and E drive before coping the file. You can use the
    commands below to do that:
    attrib c:\bootmgr -h -s
    attrib e:\bootmgr -h -s
    Copy e:\bootmgr c:\bootmgr /y

The Windows 7 bootmgr can indeed boot Windows 8.

The Windows 8 bootmgr partially loads Windows 8 before offering the boot menu.  By choosing Windows 7, the system must do a reboot.  Using the Windows 7 bootmgr, no reboot is required.

  • Dual Boot Arch and Windows 8 from Windows Boot

I tried doing some research before posting but haven't had too much luck. I just upgraded to Windows 8, but after having a nice experience with Arch previously on VirtualBox, I thought I would dual boot this time... and this is my first post.
I followed the Beginners Installation Guide and the Win Arch Dual Boot and then did some reading on setting up the BCD manager in Windows following from the link in the Arch Wiki.
    My setup is as follows
    /dev/sda1 = Windows (>150 GB)
    /dev/sda2 = /boot (100 MB)
    /dev/sda3 = / (15 GB)
    /dev/sda5 = /var (8 GB)
    /dev/sda6 = /home (~65 GB)
The linux portions are all ext4, but after reading the above article on the BCD Manager, I realized I left out the FAT32 partition so Windows can see it (note... if I get this to work, I will try and update the wiki to mention that).
So the problem is I used up all my hard drive space and need to make room for the FAT32 section. I was wondering
    a) how to resize the /home partition to make room for the FAT32 partition
    or
b)if I were to delete the /home entirely and just add an sda4 (FAT32) and sda6 (/home) (since I forgot to use sda4), do I need to go through the pacstrap process again, or generate an fstab again, or just edit the fstab manually?
    or
    c) there is a possibility that I missed something where I shouldn't need to have an FAT32 section.
    Thanks for the help!

    Thanks for the help!
I was able to use GParted to add that extra partition and was able to generate the proper file for Windows to see, and then copy over to the C: drive (which is what's missing from the Wiki).
I unfortunately had some issues that kept me starting in emergency mode, so after some time spent in the fstab section and setting the right filesystems, I was able to get it to work!
