Connecting to MobileMe with Aperture 3

I'm getting an error when I click the MobileMe publish button that says: "The operation couldn’t be completed. Connection with server has been closed."
Oddly, neither the Facebook nor the Flickr buttons are working either. Nothing happens when I click them.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Using Aperture 3.0.3, the error I get states:
There was a problem connecting to Mobileme. Request encountered an unexpected error (domain DotMac / code 140.
It's been the same for three days, even tho' Mobileme seems to be working, otherwise... Any ideas?

  • Mobileme still crashing with Aperture 2.1.3

    Hello all,
I'm submitting this request for support with a problem iv been having with aperture for more than a month now.
I launched a new mobileme gallery through aperture and added some photos to the gallery, then aperture froze while its uploading the images to mobileme.
I restarted the program and it works fine until the aperture splash launch screen, after I hit continue it would take me to no where.
I can only view the apple (aperture) menu bar, i tried to view the windows but everything in the menu bars is gray.
i tried rebuilding my aperture library after that, still no go.
i tried deleting aperture and reinstalling it again. no luck either.
the only way i can see the aperture panel is if i clicked on File>Import, then from there it would freeze again.
    thank you for you support

That Album in the Gallery is only a reference file: it links to images that are contained in the library. I would suggest the only safe way to remove these is to start Aperture and delete them in there. If you start going into the Finder and taking them out there, Aperture will have problems searching for files that no longer exist.
Did you also consider going into the Username>Library>Preferences folder and trashing the PLIST file? Don't empty the Trash initially in case that does not work.

  • Since I updated to iCloud, Mail on my MacBookPro 10.6.8 has been unable to connect to MobileMe more than once or twice per day. Mail on my iPhone 4 has no problems. What's wrong?

Since I updated to iCloud, (which may or may not be related) Mail on my MacBookPro 10.6.8 has been unable to connect to MobileMe more than once or twice per day. Mail on my iPhone 4 and my old iMac has no problems. When there is no service a yellow warning triangle appears adjacent to the Inbox and Connection Doctor reports,"Trying to log into this MobileMe IMAP account failed. Verify that username and password are correct."  Since it does fetch Mail from time to time they cannot be wrong.... can they? Should I update to 10.7 and if so what does that entail?

You have been using MobileMe's email settings, which sometimes continue to work for a time after migration but then get turned off. iCloud's mail server settings are different. Strictly speaking Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud, and on that Mail is set up automatically.
Snow Leopard cannot access most of iCloud's facilities, however you can set Mail up manually to access your email. The method is described here:

The situation with iCloud and Snow Leopard is described in detail here:

  • Apple TV 1st Gen + iTunes 10 + Photo Sync (with Aperture 3) = No Sync

I recently started to experience the same issues that others have reported regarding not being able to sync their Apple TV classic (1st generation) with iTunes 10.
I grudgingly disconnected my Apple TV from iTunes which wiped out all the content. Then when I started a new sync, the Apple TV (and my iMac) froze when trying to connect.
So, I disconnected them again, and quickly set the sync preferences to a "Custom" sync. After an hour of playing around with the settings, and turning on (one by one) syncing of video content, music and podcasts, I've narrowed it down ... to Photo syncing with Aperture.
All of the other content that iTunes will let me select, syncs fine. I've re-synced my entire music library, but if I even setup iTunes to sync 1 photo from Aperture to my Apple TV ... freeze-o-matic.
Anyone else run into this issue and/or been able to find a workaround to fix it?

Finally found answer, many thanks to:

This solved my questionHT1784 Re: In iTunes my Apple tv (1st Generation) only shows Summary and photos so I can no longer load a movie and sync to the Apple tv. Anybody else experienced options now missing ? Jun 13, 2012 5:04 AM (in response to Savlegs)
    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your library has become a secondary (streaming only) library only (it is possible to turn syncing off by ctrl-clicking on the Apple TV listing in the device list and choosing 'Turn Off Syncing" from the contextual menu) and you need to reconnect your library as a primary library.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • Do not have mobileme account, but, iphoto starts connection process and I get repeated error messages "difficulty connecting to mobileme"...how do I fix?

I do not have a MobileMe account.  Yet, when trying to upload photos from iPhoto to FaceBook I get repeated messages, "Difficulty connecting to MobileMe."  This is after the rainbow wheel spins for a while.  Sometimes I have to force quit iPhoto because iPhoto locks up.  This also happens on occasion while I'm working in iPhoto, such as moving between albums or editing features.  I use iPhoto '11 with latest updates.  How can I resolve this issue?

    Hey,
If you've resolved the issue by turning off syncing then no further troubleshooting is needed.  Having syncing turned off will prevent you from syncing an iOS device over USB with calendars / contacts.  The only time iPhoto talks to MobileMe is if you have a MobileMe account added (as far as I am aware).
If you wish to troubleshoot further:
    I checked out my User>Library>Caches and >Preferences.  Neither had a >com.apple.iphoto file.
These must exist otherwise iPhoto would not be working at all as they are required for it to launch.  Lets try another route to get to the same location.
Click on the Finder icon in the dock (smiley face)
Go to "Go" > "Home" at the top of the computer screen
    Double-click "Library"
    Double-click "Caches"
Go to "View" > "As List" at the top of the computer screen
-- This list should now be alphabetical...if not click on the column called "Name" to alphabatize
-- Locate a blue folder called "com.apple.iphoto" and remove to the trash
Click on the Finder icon in the dock (smiley face)
Go to "Go" > "Home" at the top of the computer screen
    Double-click "Library"
    Double-click "Preferences"
Go to "View" > "As List" at the top of the computer screen
-- This list should now be alphabetical...if not click on the column called "Name" to alphabatize
-- Locate the files called "com.apple.iphoto" they will have a variety of endings. As long as they say "com.apple.iphoto" drag them to the trash.
    - Restart the computer
If the issue persists I would try with a new iPhoto Library.  Hold down option and launch iPhoto and create a new library.  Add a picture or two and then test.

  • Why can't I connect to MobileMe?

I am trying to sync my iPad calendar with the one on my Mac. I have gone to “add account” in my calendar settings and click done mobile me. When I enter my Apple ID and password the error message I get is “verification failed. There was a problem communicating with the Web proxy server (HTTP).” Why am I getting this error message? I know I am successfully getting online through my home Wi-Fi.

Hi, this has been going on for me for well over a month. I have called Apple support and they tell me to restore. Which I have done twice. I can connect my Gmail and my work accounts, and my iPhone 4 connects to MobileMe just fine. so I know my passwords and accounts are all good. I have followed the steps outlined here and still get the same, " Verification Failed. The Operation couldn't be completed. No such file or directory."
I am running 4.2.1 and am hesitant to upgrade to 4.3 based on the battery issues that I have read about.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

Never mind, I found out after that my network firewall was blocking connections to and from Mobile me. It was working on my iPhone because I was on AT&T 3g, and not Wi-Fi only like my iPad.
Just when I thought I had tried everything!

  • Questions on first time to backing up or achiving with Aperture

    Hi,
I would really appreciate any tips/advice on how to start archiving my images in Aperture. Currently my whole library sits on my Macbook pro (I do a weekly back up on my Time Capsule). But I want to start reducing my library on my macbook pro and start archiving my images properly so I can find them at a later date when I need them. But I haven't a clue. So please let me have your thoughts.
    Thanks
    Catherine

This is perhaps a partial answer leading into another question. I hope I don't derail your question. Because my MBP was getting overloaded with Aperture images I started REFERENCING my new images to an external portable hard drive (Western Digital 300GB FW800) that works flawlessly and fits in the palm of my hand. This works very nice but left me with the task of backing up the external FW hard drive.
My approach has been to use to use one of the cloning software programs to clone my external FW hard drive. I have tried Superduper and Carbon Copy Cloner. I purchased a 1.5 TB external HD that connects to my MBP via eSATA with a Griffin Card. After much to do and frustration I discovered that I had to find a new driver for the Griffin Card and I finally got the hardware and software to work like it was supposed to.
I partitioned my large Terabyte external backup harddrive and made a clone of my Aperature referenced libraries from the external FW harddrive. No problem in making the clone. All of the images are stored on the clone. The problem is that I can't get Aperature to see the clone of my referenced masters and access the clone as if it were the original referenced masters. If I could accomplish this feat I would feel confident that in the future I could simply use my cloned referenced masters as backup and retain all of my Aperture cataloging and adjustments.
Catherine I hope that my additional question will add to your solution and not derail our initial question. Thanks everybody.

  • Lost connection to mobileme galerie

Today suddenly iphoto lost on one album the connection to mobileme galerie. The content is still on the web, but the ( sync ) folder in iphoto is empty. If i drag a new photo/movie , actually this folder contains movies, to the folder it will upload to the galerie - thats fair enough - but afterwards the folder in iphoto is ( again ) empty. Anyone else experience the same thing ?

I got in touch with Apple - for about an hour. Despite the Support team not admitting to anything at this stage, it came across to me very clearly, that the MobileMe IT does not cope very well with any combination of these scenarios:
    - poor or random bandwidth
    - interruptions in the connection.
    - large quantities of data in combination with the above two points
I had the opportunity to re-upload a large set of photos from a higher capacity broadband connection. Result: no problems.
The fundamental technical issue, in particular for those with poorer broadband connections: The software & the MobileMe service do sometimes fail to stay connected and more fatally the software somehow loses the URL of the gallery.
The fundamental functional/managerial issue: Neither the desktop software nor the MobileMe web service make the user aware of what happened and fix the problem. SO IT’S GUESSWORK FOR THOSE AFFECTED.
Coming back to the Apple Support, I guess they will ultimately understand and fix the issue. However the process to get to this point appears to be long-winded, as there are many procedures and a lot of communication involved until the message finally reaches those, who understand and manage this product.
In the meantime the best bet is to only use broadband with high capacity uplink, if large sets of data (photos, videos) ought to be uploaded.

  • Is MobileMe with iDisk Syncing equivalent to DropBox?

Is MobileMe with iDisk Syncing equivalent to DropBox?
Is it any faster or slower?
I think that the default file structure setup, which is the same as that of the Home folder, had me confused. Do I have this right? To use iDisk and iDisk syncing "properly," you just put the files in your iDisk that you want to keep available to multiple computers, not necessarily everything in your Documents folder going to the Documents folder on your iDisk etc. (i.e. the same things you might put in DropBox).
Now, let's say that you want to have your pictures (and perhaps even your iTunes) available to multiple computers that use the same MobileMe account; could you put your whole iPhoto library in the Pictures folder on your iDisk and then point your iPhoto application to that iPhoto library? If you did this how much of a speed hit would you take? If my assumption is correct, once it is synchronized, even if you were not connected to the Internet, your use of iPhoto shouldn't be speed-compromised and if you had added or changed a number of photos, that work would synchronize the next time you did connect.

All I can tell you is that I have Entourage syncing events to the iPhone via MobileMe/iCal fine (I'm not trying to sync contacts or email settings). (Although I don't really have accepted invites as I'm not on Exchange)
MobileMe offers free chat help--go to the support page, and wait a little bit or read a bit until the link shows up.

  • Is the Nikon GP-1 gps compatible with Aperture 3?

Is the Nikon GP-1 GPS compatible with Aperture 3?

"A standard GPS cannot do this, and so in many cases will take 1-2 minutes to get a precise location."
No, that's completely incorrect. Most modern GPS chipsets will lock onto 3-4 GPS signals within seconds unless you've taken it somewhere far from the last time it was powered up and it has to search from scratch because it has to build a new almanac and ephemeris.
You're also confused about which technology you're talking about. aGPS or Assisted GPS has nothing to do with triangulation. It can only help improve time-to-fix if the phone has an active data connection so that it can download data that will help the GPS get a fix faster. No internet, no faster TTF.
Cell tower triangulation is so inaccurate that lawyers know that if presented as evidence it can easily be challenged and thrown out in court cases.

  • Mac Book Pro DVI and Display LED 27" + Atlona DP400 - Issue with Aperture

    Hello,
I bought the new LED 27" and connect it through the Atlona DP400 to my "old" Macbook Pro with a DVI port.
    Works well except with Aperture.
I can launch the application, navigate though the project and the pictures, but when I want to work on a picture, the mac is blocked and the only way to exit this situation is a hard reboot.
Does anyone had the same issue ? and found some solution ?
    Thanks

Interesting. I usually expect newer OS versions to cause issues with older boxes rather than to solve them.
Glad it worked out for you.

  • Nvidia 7300/7600gt desktop users with Aperture graphic corruption read:

Not promising anything, but consider installing the January 19, 2010 "Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 (iMac and Mac Pro) compatibility with Windows 7" then perform a restart as per the installer. Then restart while resetting PRAM (I have done this numerous times before this update, so don't even think of suggesting this was the fix) and then shut down for good measure and reboot again....what the ****....
    EXPLANATION:
I have a new HD, new RAM, new clean Aperture and OS install. I have been trying to determine the source of my woes for months. I also performed a complete check of the innards of my machine (checking voltages, yanking mother boards and GPU board for visual inspections, capacitor failures, connections, traces, etc......all to prove everything looked great with little dust) But I still had issues.
For kicks, even though I am not running WIndows 7 or BootCamp (I use VMWare for XP Pro) I updated the graphics firmware in my computer. It says: "Download and install the Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 IF YOU RUN WINDOWS 7 using Boot Camp on your iMac (with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 or 7600 GT) or Mac Pro (with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT or Quadro FX 4500) computer." (Capital emphasis mine) Furthermore, some descriptions I have seen for this refer to "early 2008" models...clearly not mine...though Apple, to my knowledge, never made iMacs in 2008 with a 7300/7600 GT card. They were produced in 2006 and early 07.
I originally assumed this update was not required or recommended for those of us NOT using WIndows 7 (and perhaps this assumption is correct, technically). Well, I did the update, and since performing this update...I am nervous to even suggest this....I see the graphic corruption has not occurred while making adjustments. I have even used screen sharing with Aperture in full screen mode with success....crazy, I know.
This is...so far...a miracle. It also proves in my twisted dementia and euphoria, that it was NOT (here comes the jinx) hardware failure related, but rather a driver or firmware issue. (of course you will see a follow up about how this was an awful idea plagued with problems and no fix for Aperture....but be patient, all good drama needs time)
Let me be clear, the update never popped up via software update and the update itself says it is for windows 7 boot camp users of which I am NOT...
The ROM Revision # has changed in "About This Mac" TO 3467 FROM 3021. I cannot necessarily suggest this was a fix (I have done nothing else, however, to my computer since), but it seems to have worked so far. I have no idea how to roll back this firmware if you should try this, not succeed and suffer problems. But for the risk-takers (not sure how risky this is for the described users) it's worth a shot. Post your experience via this thread, just to confirm if I am imagining this....

Does it still crash if you change your directory that you are exporting to, but leave it in icon mode?
Yes. I just checked, and the 2nd try it crashed when in icon mode to another than the usual directory. Usually I export to the Desktop, now I exported to the home-dir.
Are there other images or pdfs of interesting items in the directory?
My Desktop is usually empty. I tried again exporting random images one by one removing each exported image in between, and after around six times it crashed. So I would say: No.
Do the icon size or text settings have an effect on if you crash or not?
I have tried with 2 sizes 64x64 and 128x128 with the same result: Crash. So I would say No, but I haven't tried all icon sizes.

  • Connected seagate HD with recovered data now have 2 iPhoto librarys

Connected a seagate external HD with data they retrieved from a external HD that stopped working.  After connecting that HD I now have 2 iPhoto libraries, which are locked.  Get a warning when open iPhoto.  Can libraries be combined?

    Couple of things to try:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
    If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that?
If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($30) version of iPhoto Library Manager

I need a help in answering one of the issue encountered last week.
I have created a database link and tried to access the information from a table using the program written in another language. The password provided was incorrect for that user while creating database link. So we expected that, while retrieving the data, Database connection has to be errored out as password provided is incorrrect.
But unfortunately, user account was locked out. When i checked with DBAs they mentioned that it tries to connect 16 ports with in a min of time.we were shocked as it STOPS another scheduled jobs with that user. and affects production badly.
As per the program, it has to connect only one time and yesterday we tried to execute the program in DBAs observation and it errored out as expected. Didn't tried for multiple ports.
Now the question is, WHY the database connection established 16 times last week and caused user account locked. DBAs are unable to answer it. Any EXPERTs opinion on this would greatly appreciated.
I have verified managing ports in oracle documentation, it was mentioned that if one port is busy it will try to connect to another port in the range of ports mentioned during the installtion. DBAs verified ports related file and it was blank. and they are not agreeing with this reason. Please HELP me in finding the correct REASON for this.
is it a NETWORK issue or issue with DATABASE SERVER only?
