Connecting to msn for mac at school/uni

I recently brought a macbook, and it connected fine at home. At school it didn't, and the ict technicians had to change some internet settings around. All works fine except msn for mac, which is not blocked by the school so I don't see why this is. Does anyone know why this might be happening? Anyone who owns a mac that has to change some settings when at school/uni that has any idea would be of great help! I think you may have to change the proxy settings just unsure how you do this? Please, please help me! Much appreciated.

Easiest solution would be to try MSN Web Messenger found at http://webmessenger.msn.com/. It is an officially supported version of MSN Messenger except that it runs entirely from your browser (like Facebook or other web apps). Except it does not support Safari, dumb Microsoft, I suggest Mozilla Firefox 3 as an alternative.
If you want to stick with a client based method I recommend Adium which can be found at http://www.adiumx.com/.

I'm trying to send files from MSN (for Mac) to an MSN (Windows) client. I'm beind a linksys WRT54G wireless router. Everything is set up well as far as the internet goes (browsing, downloading, uploading etc.). My problem is that when I try to send a file from my computer to another one, it takes forever! [A 2 MB video took over 5 minutes to send]
How can I increase the speed of the transfer? And which ports can I open to increase the speed.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Totally Remove msn for mac..

A week ago my dad tried using the corporate part of msn for mac and it did not work but remembered his email and password. Now, everytime I open msn it brings up the corporate login aswell as the personal login and wont automatically sign in when I open it. What I want to do is remove all the login names etc... from msn as this seems to be the problem.
Ok so ive tried the usual by just deleting the app and that didnt work. Then I found all the preferences in the documents folder so I deleted that and re-downloaded msn and that still did not work. I then tried AppZapper and that also did not work.
Does anyone have anything that can get rid of this?

I had not looked there but no there is nothing to do with msn in these locations.
I have just used spotlight to search for "messenger" and it has found a document called "Microsoft Messenger User Cache.Plist"
I have herd of Plist files before when people have been having trouble with the dvd ejection. It sounds to me like this is where it will be stored. Should I delete this file or is it a dodgy move?
    Thanks

    Hi
    Try Mercury mercury.to/">http://www.mercury.to/
    Or aMSN amsn.sourceforge.net/">http://amsn.sourceforge.net/
Both do video but no audio.
If you want video and audio try looking at Skype.

  • Issues connecting Outlook 2011 for Mac to Exchange Server 2013

Could someone help me with the bellow please:
I have a Mac with outlook 2011 on it.
We have recently set up Exchange Server 2013, and all of the Windows Workstation just required the trusted root certificate to be installed and they were working.
However I have spent hours reading different forums trying to get this working on the Mac and no luck.
The auto discover does not work when setting up the exchange email, therefore I have also tried setting up manually but it still will not connect to the server.

    Hi,

  • Qwest/MSN for Mac

    Hello,
I need to switch from my current ISP (very poor service) and my alternative is Qwest/MSN. I spoke with Qwest tech support and they told me the change over to the internet connection is seamless. Regarding MSN's bell's and whistles, I don't plan to use them.
Considering this: Are there any reasons why working with Qwest as the network provider and MSN as the ISP would present any (Mac-related) problems?
    Thanks for your help.

I sign up with Qwest for the $35/month plan.
I believe William is correct. You don't actually talk to Qwest at all. Sign up with one of the ISPs on the page I linked to above. They'll charge you a monthly fee as your ISP and Qwest will bill you a DSL line fee as part of your phone bill.
I logon through the MSN interface to get on to the Internet.
Nope. No matter what ISP you use, you don't need to go to their web site at all. Start your browser on a blank page if you want, of whatever is your favorite site. You never need to look at your ISPs site if you don't want to.
I get email addressed to my domain, so that's not affected, right?
I don't have to make any changes to my DNS addresses with my domain registrar, right?
So you're already using a web hosting service to post a web site, which also already has email as part of the service? If so, then you can leave everything there just the way it is and continue to use your domain for your email accounts. Your ISP will also have email as part of your connection package, but you don't need to use it. If you want though, you could separate the two. Use your domain for business related email only, and set up an email with your ISPs name for personal. It's up to you.
For instance, I have email access as part of my account with Qwest. So if I wanted to, I could set up an email account which would be something like [email protected], but also leave my current email running under my domain name, which gives the emails a more professional look by matching www.jklstudios.com with email names like [email protected]
I don't have any needs/plans to spend any time on MSN.
Nor do you ever need to even if you go with MSN as your ISP.
So using Qwest/MSN should be a clean user experience as an entry point onto the Internet, right?
Any ISP which uses Qwest as their hub would be just as clean. It's really all in how reliable the up time of their servers are. That's the main thing to look into when choosing an ISP, other than price.

  • Which connection is faster for Mac-iPod syncing?

I have recently been reading about the switch from power adapter/usb/firewire bundle to usb only for iPods and after reading a couple of reviews i've come across quite a few people saying the the Firewire connection from a mac to an iPod is actually faster than a USB connection even though the speed of usb is theoretically greater than that of a Firewire conenction. I have sold my old iPod mini to upgrade to the 6GB version so i now only have a USB cable but i'm going to New York in september (From UK) and i'm going to be doing some shopping in the apple store to take full advantage of the price difference and i'm wanting to know whether it's worth adding a the apple stereo connection kit (charger, dock, firewire cable, stereo cables) to my list which already includes the Dock?
I know it's a bit long winded but i got carried away. Basically i want to know if and how the Firewire conenction is faster than the USB connection.
    Thanks in advance

I don't know which dumb manager decided to not include the firewire cables anymore. But that was a stupid move on Apples part, I think.
They could have sold two versions, one with a Firewire cable and another with USB cable. That at least would give us a choice.
Mine came with the both cables, but since I only have USB 1, I have always used the Firewire cable.
As Allan has stated, I still believe the firewire connection is far superior, even though USB 2 is better than USB 1. But I think it's a marketing and cost saving approach on Apples part. Most Windows PC's don't ship with Firewire, only USB 2.

  • Torch doesn't connect to BB for Mac Software

I tried several of the "quick fixes" I found on this site, including uninstalling PocketMac Sync Manager and the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. I have reinstalled the BB Desktop Manager twice.  My Mac is also NOT running on 64-bit, so that isn't a problem either. I really don't understand why when I connect the phone to my computer and type in the phone's password it won't "connect" to the software. It recognizes the phone I have and both disk icons pop up on my desktop.  It just won't let me sync anything.  Help?

I just went through a pretty lengthy ordeal with my girlfriend regarding this so I felt inclined to sign up and post a reply. Something you may want to check (and something I should have checked first) is that you are using the correct USB cable. She had 2, one for her car charger and one for connecting to her mac/pc. She had accidentally switched the two. One will connect to the computer properly, and the other one won't. Good luck.

  • Issues With MSN For Mac

I don't know if this is the right place to put this but I can't see anywhere else. I recently downloaded the MSN 6.01 and since then I've been experiencing some problems. First of all, whenever I sign in I always have to type my password in twice before I can connect, it always says my first attempt is wrong even though I make sure I type it in right. Secondly everytime I click to change my display pic MSN freezes for a short time (about 30 seconds) before the window with my display pic options comes up. Is anyone experiencing the same problems or can someone help me with this?
    Thanks!

I seem to remember some similar problem with the password when I upgraded to that version. You may have to go into Keychain Access and delete the entry, then put it in again.
You might also try Keychain First Aid.
I got so fed up, and with the slowness of the software, in comparison with the previous version, that I switched to Adium. It may not suit all, but it does work with MSN accounts.

  • Were can i get msn for mac

Hi just got myself a mac pro after having windows laptop but must say finding it really hard to get things like msn and downloading sites< actly thinking of re-selling my mac as its not what i want in a computer.....can some one help and convince me that the mac is worth the money as its really upsetting to find i cant do anything like downloading or chat.

I think you should take a deep breath and really think about the money you spent and the effort you may be required to expend.  This forum can be very helpful.  The problem with your question is that the people answering questions are just people who had nothing to do with getting you into the situation.
So starting off that you are going to sell the machine is a tough insult to take right away.  We can certainly help you if you are willing to try.  If you have already given up then there is no point.
All of us spent the same amount of money to acquire the various hardware we have.  Many of us have spent numberous hours solving many problems for ourselves and others.  I suggest you give the forums a try and Apple support at an Apple store:
    Heres the list:  http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/storelist/
Is the ONLY problem you have that you don't have  MSN messenger (as a side note MSN stands for MicroSoft Network and is a DIRECT competitor to Apple)?
I used a Google search for "MSN Messenger 8 Mac OS X" to locate the installer:
    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=4740
I confirmed this would install on my machine (MacBook Pro 15" running Mac OS X 10.7.3).  I hope you will consider hanging in a little longer.
    Best regards,
    Wayne

  • Where is the connection information stored for Mac Remote Desktop?

I want to restore Mac Remote Desktop connection information from a Time Machine backup to a new Mac.  On the new Mac, I've installed Remote Desktop from the App Store and installed all the files found in
    ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.mac from
a Time Machine backup.  But I don't see my old connections.  I also don't see any connection information in my Time Machine backup here
    ~/Documents/RDC Connections.
Where is the connection information stored?

The path is correct. You could try to get an console log during application launch. This log might give you information why the information is missing.
