Connecting to my BEFW11S4 V.4

I upgraded my firmware, and i still cant stay connected. It runs nicely for about 45 minutes, then im disconnected and i have to resest my router. Any advice?

So you are facing Intermitten problem with Wired / Wireless connection. Here are some settings which you can set on your router and check if that works.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Once you login to your Router setup page and below the setup tab, You will find MTU which will be set to AUTO, so you need to change it to Manual and change the Size from 1500 to 1365 and click on Save Settings.
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
- Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on
Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't Type in anything...Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone
number) and click on save settings...Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

Trouble connecting Wii to BEFW11S4

I've been having troubles connecting my Wii to my BEFW11S4 Ver. 3.0 router as of late. The Wii finds the connection, but can't get to the Internet. It keeps giving me the same code (I think it's like 52130 or something), which says that there's an issue with my router's firewall.
I've tried virtually everything both Linksys and Nintendo recommends, but I can't seem to figure it out. What's the deal?

try to open ports for the WII which you can get from Nintendo. or set the WII to statuc ip and set DMZ for it. if that wont work, try connecting your WII directly to the modem and check if it has the same problem. now if it does, then check if your modem is a modem-router. then if it is then open the ports on the modem-router or set the DMZ there. but it modem is just a plain modem, contact ISP and ask them for assistance..

Playstation 3 - connection problems with BEFW11S4

I am having trouble connecting my Playstation 3 to the internet via my BEFW11S4 wireless router.
The PS3 scans and finds the router ok (signal strength is good), I enter the SSID, WLAN security setting is WPA-PSK (TKIP), I enter the WPA key and select 'Easy' in the Address settings page.
The PS3 comes back with the following error message
A connection to the access point could not be established. Check the security settings for the wireless LAN (8013013E)
Does anybody have any idea what I might be doing wrong?
I have a laptop and desktop which connect via this router with no problems.
Someone suggested switching off the router security - might this help? - how would I do that exactly?

I made two adjustments - turned off the router security and manually entered an IP address in the PS3 (as advised on another forum) - not sure which of these made a difference (I'm sure through trial and error I could work it out) but it seems to be working ok now.
However the connection speed seems very slow - to download the latest system update took over an hour - it shouldn't be this slow should it?
Any advice on how to achieve a faster speed?

Internet Connection Issues using BEFW11S4 and Verizon DSL

I'm trying to get my son's wireless router running on our home network. The PC (WXP) works find when directly connected to the DSL modem (client IP: 192.168.1.46, DG: 192.168.1.1, DNS server 192.168.1.1, NetMask: 255.255.255.0)
When I install the BEFW11S4, I can connect to the router, reset factory defaults, release and renew IP; but the client times out when accessing the internet.
The IP info for the router is identical to that which I see on the PC when directly connected (IP: 192.168.1.46, DG: 192.168.1.1, DNS server 192.168.1.1, NetMask: 255.255.255.0)
I tried:
- Easy_LinkConnect - It fails when trying to access the internet.
I've tried pinging from my client to known good IPs, that fails
Reset to factory defaults
FW upgrades
- Is there a test untility on the router to test the WAN connection?
- Could there be a problem with the LinkSysy router IP (192.168.1.1) being the same as the WAN DG (192.168.1.1)?

Here's the latest update on the DSL/LinkSys saga. As it turns out, it had nothing to do with conflicting IPs. After peaking and poking for several days, I finally called verizon tech support. The problem was that the DSL modem (Westell 6100) needs to be in bridge mode if you're using a Linksys router (I suspect the 6100 assumes a sinle end nodes on its LAN side). However once the 6100 is in bridge mode, PPP authentication (which is done by Westell when in the router when in PPPoE) now needs to be done by all the PC's on the home network. Is there a way to have the LinkSys authenticate the PPP? Thx in advance

Connecting with Linksys BEFW11S4

I'm able to connect to the internet using the Linksys router using OS 9 on a G3, but the second computer which is a dual boot G4 will likewise only connect when running OS 9. When the same computer is booted into OS X, Network Diagnostics gives a Green light to Built-in Ethernet, Network Settings and ISP, but Internet and Server get a red light and no internet.
So obviously it has to be Tiger. Any ideas?
Also any ideas for successful DCC sends on IRC with this setup?

I started out with:
Network/Built-in Ethernet GREEN: Built-in Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address x.x.x.x. You are connected to the Internet via Built-in Ethernet.
But since the internet connection was not REALLY working, I clicked on Assist me...
This gives me a green light for Built-in Ethernet, Network Settings and ISP, but a red light for Internet and Server.
A new location produces red lights in all places.
Rebooting into OS 9 produces SUCCESS.

BEFW11S4,ver2 - connection problems through wireless routers

I have one desktop, running 2000, connected to the BEFW11S4, via ethernet. I have another desktop, running XP, connected via ethernet. I have one laptop running XP, connected wirelessly to the router. And I have another laptop running Vista connected wirelessly to the router. I have set them all up on the same network, to get IPs automatically. The router has IP 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0. Computer 1(1st desktop) is 192.168.1.100, Computer 2 (2nd desktop) is 192.168.1.101, laptop 1 is 192.168.1.102, and the last laptop is .103, all on the same subnet as the router.
I can get to the internet from all computers
All computers can ping the router, 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.100 can ping the router, but none of the other 3 computers.
192.168.1.101 can ping the router, and the other desktop (.100), but not the two laptops
192.168.1.102 can ping the router, and the first desktop (.100), but not the .101 or .103
192.168.1.103 can ping the router, and the first desktop, (.100), but not the .101 or .102 IPs
I have network and file sharing enabled on all four computers, and they all show up in my "HOME" network, in My network places, on all four computers.
I have two printers connected to the 2nd desktop, (.101), with printer sharing enabled on both of them, yet I cannot get to either printer from any of the machines...which make sense, since I can't ping them...but, doesn't make sense, since the computer their connected to shows up in my network...(may try hooking one or both printers to the .100 machine tomorrow and see if that works.
I had it working before, but I think I had to set IP addresses manually in each machine, and it had to be a different network than the default 192.168.1.0 network. I haven't tried that again, (I'm getting burntout with everything I have tried).
Whats the problem? Do I have to set static routes in each machine? I wouldn't think I would have to since they are all on the same local network, and all on the same workgroup.
I had the same problem setting up a two machine network at my wifes daycare as well. The desktop machine is running XP, the laptop is running Vista. Both machines on the same network, and workgroup, with file file and printer sharing on, but I can't get the laptop to connect to the desktop printer. What do I need to do that I am not doing right now?

as I said in the 1st post, I have file and printer sharing turned on in all the machines already. and I have doublechecked it twice, and reset it twice on all machines. Tonight I was finally able to ping all the machines, and print to both machines, but only after I set the IP address in both desktops manually to a 192.168.5.0 network. I left the two laptops that connect wirelessly to assign ip automatically, and restarted all the computers again, and then I was able to ping all machines, from all machines, and get to the two printers.
If I manually change both desktops back to the default 192.168.1.0 network, and follow the same restart procedure, they don't work. doesn't make any sense...

In your issue u r able to go online with the first comp. connected to the befw11s4 correct may be that comp. might be connected to the modem with an usb cable check that out first if it is so disconnect that usb cable and power cyle the modem and the router... if not make sure that you connected the modem to the internet port of the router...
if your internet service provider is going to be a dsl connection like verizon r sbc...something like that then you will be having a connection manger icon under the network connections if it going to say connected then disconnect it...
and log in to the router page and changed the internet connection type to ppoe...and type the user name and the password given by your internet service provider and save the settings and when go to the satus tab on the router it should say the logging status connected if you r going to get that mess then all the comp. will go online...
and also the other chance would be if u r going to connec the comp. directly to the modem and if u check the ip add. and if it is going to be in the range as 192.168.1.x.......
then u need to change the router's lan ip to 192.168.2.1...then power cycle the router then every thing will work..try this steps

HP PSC 2510 on BEFW11S4: assigning / reserving an IP address

I use an HP PSC 2510 printer / scanner copier on my home network, with a wired connection to my BEFW11S4 ver. 2 (firmware 1.45.10). About two months ago, I started experiencing intermittent connectivity problems (for which I asked assistance in a separate post). I also reconfigured my printer around that time, to connect via IP address (192.168.1.100) rather than host name (NPID11408), so I thought I'd mention that here.
The problem I initially intended to write about is that whenever I reset the router, I turn off all the other computers (or at least their connections), and reset the printer before turning the router back on again, so that the printer always comes up with the first assigned IP address (192.168.1.100). Is there a way to "reserve" this local IP address so that it always (and only) gets assigned to the printer? Since someone currently needs to reset the router on a nearly weekly basis, the extra work of turning everything else off and on again is a real hassle.
I say "initially" above, because in writing this, I am wondering whether my reconfiguration of the printer is a factor in the intermittent connectivity problems with the BEFW11S4 I wrote about a little while ago. In case they are related, and anyone else reading this has any insights, here's a listing of the HP Network Configuration page:

On Windows XP (for my Dell, Toshiba and Sony computers), the printer port is configured to use the IP address. When I first got the printer, and installed the software on the Dell and Sony, I was able to use the Host Name, but for some reason, I couldn't get the Toshiba to see the printer via the hostname, but all computers could see the printer via the IP address. My Mac can also see the printer via the IP address.
I would welcome any suggestions (or questions) from anyone who can help me configure the router to assign 192.168.1.100 to the printer (or at least reserve it for the printer). Thanks!

This will have each device on your network operating from a fixed IP address corresponding to the one the DHCP server had assigned. Now that address will not change. Note, however, that if a device is removed from the network and some new device is connected to which the DHCP server assigns the same address, then you cannot reconnect the other device until the new one is removed or you can end up with two devices trying to use the same IP address which will generate a system error.
I did manually assign specific and unique IP addresses to each computer. Everything worked fine. However, once I had the computers turned on in a different sequence and there was an IP conflict. I am not sure why? I had to manually change the IP address. Is the router's DHCP server trying to assign IP addresses to the computers?
I notice now that in my router's control panel, there are no IP addresses in the "LAN > DHCP Client List"— No leases. Before I manually assigned addresses, there was a list of IP addresses. Would it not make sense for the DHCP Client List to still show what IP address are currently in use?

Network routers clashing? BEFW11S4 and WRT54GS

I have a small network. I have a splitter followed by a router (IP Address 192.168.1.1) and branching of in to several separate sub networks.
In one of these sub networks I have a problem; at times it refuses to connect to the Internet.
The set-up is as follows. From the 192.168.1.1 I have a direct connection to a WRT54GS that has the wireless function switched on. This connects to a BEFW11S4 that has the wireless function switched off, my computer is connected to the BEFW11S4.
I use fixed IP for everything in my network.
The BEFW11S4 is new n the network as the previous switch died and was replaced with eh BEFW11S4. The problem exists since this replacement took place.
I have checked the following:
• Do all machines on the network have different IP addresses? Yes.
• In the same range (like 192.168.1.x)? Yes.
• All subnet masks the same? Yes.
• Both the BEFW11S4 and the WRT54GS have the latest firmware installed.
Tests I have done.
• Connecting direct to the 192.168.1.1with all other sub networks disconnected. No problems.
• Connecting direct to the 192.168.1.1 with all other sub networks connected. No problems.
• Disconnect all other sub networks except mine. The problem remained. Thus pointing at my end of the network.
• Connecting to the 192.168.1.1 bypassing the BEFW11S4. No problems. Thus pointing at the BEFW11S4 as the source (and it is also the new component in the equation).
• Connecting to the 192.168.1.1 using the BEFW11S4, directly connected to the 192.168.1.1. No problems. Thus pointing at a clash between the BEFW11S4 and the WRT54GS.
When the problem occurs in the normal setup as described above, it will refuse access to the Internet. I cannot ping 192.168.1.1 at this point. I can ping the BEFW11S4 and the WRT54GS. If I keep pinging them (the BEFW11S4 and the WRT54GS) for a while, I will eventually get back in to the Internet.
If I disconnect my computer from the network by removing the cable it sometimes helps but at other times not.
My question? Any suggestions as to what it could be?

Different areas on different floors al connected to 192.168.1.1 via one hub or switch. Some floors have two switches like on the one I talk about here and they are cascaded. Meaning 192.168.1.1 port 4 connects to 192.168.1.110 port I, which connects to 192.168.1.100
From the splitter, into the first router, your
ethernet should be going into the WAN/Internet port
of that first router.

BEFW11S4 WLan light is off

My laptop can no longer connect to my BEFW11S4 v2 router. The "WLAN Link" light is off. I have the latest firmware, 1.45.10, reflashed it twice and tried an older version of firmware from the Linksys ftp site without success, then reloaded 1.45.10. The router has wireless "enabled" and SSID broadcast "enabled". I also did a "one minute reset" on the back of the router but had no success in getting WLAN to light up.
My "wired" ports on the router are having no problems connecting to the Internet. All other lights are functioning normally. The "wireless" had been working for about two years.
Any suggestions on what else I can try...?

Ok. so the laptop and your PSP cannot detect the router? it seems that your are familiar going to the setup page of the router. so access the setup page again, then go to the wireless tab. make sure that "wireless ssid broadcast" is set to "enabled", and you may also want to try changing channels on the router. after changing channels, powercycle the router (turning it ON and OFF), if same problem, reply to this message.

Fed up with VPN connection failures

Cant get a brand new laptop with built in wireless to get a VPN connection with a BEFW11s4 router. Internet is fine. An older laptop works fine. This new labtop even works beautifully with a wireless adapter,not the built in.
Called Linksys tech support line and they wouldnt even check anything. Basically dismissed me and said its the computer (did I mention is brand new??)Now I read all the problems people are having with VPN and their routers and I cant believe they lied to me.

What do you use for the VPN connection? IPSEC? If you only are using the passthrough function on the router, it can only allow 1 IPSEC session at a time. If you are also using other VPN softwares for that, you may need to open up ports 1723 500 50 51 and 47. This is because your router firewall maybe the cause. Try that first on a static IP for that wireless card. Try to also check if the "wired " connection to your VPN works before going wireless, you would need to do this first regardless of any brand of router...ayt?!

BEFW11s4 Computer permission problems (I think)

I have two desktops and a wireless laptop connected through my BEFW11s4 router. Everything worked perfectly until I unhitched everything to move the computers around my office. After I reconnected everything I ended up with the following: All three computers can see the internet, the two desktops can use the printer which is attached to one of the desktops. The wireless laptop can't print anymore and none of the computers can access each other. I have tried re-running the network set up wizard but that hasn't worked. HELP !!!

I have found the windows firewalls and turned them off. The second computer can now see everything on the first computer. The first computer can see that the second computer is on the network but I cannot access anything. (see message below) I have re-set the hard drive to "sharing" mode (click my computer, right click on C drive, highlight sharing and security etc...) but it still doesn't work. I am wondering if the McAfee program is still blocking access. I opened up McAfee and had it look for computers on the network. It found the first computer and shows it connected to the network via the router. I clicked to allow access to/from the network, but I still have the error message problem. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have a BEFW11S4, i have one computer directly connected to the BEFW11S4, and the internet works fine, that is what i
am using now, but i have another coord going into a Netgear router, and i have 2 computers connected to the netgear router that
arent working at all, and i also have a wireless laptop that isnt working either, my question is why is the one computer working
but the other three not? and i also looked into the advanced settings, in the router, and it shows the INTERNET IP ADDRESS at
0.0.0.0, so i have no idea what could possible be wrong, and ideas?

First lets address the second NetGear router. Make sure on that router you change its IP address to the same IP range that your Linksys router is using. To do that you have to access the NetGear's user interface and change the IP to 192.168.2.1 and disable the DHCP. If that router is set up to keep the two segments separate the assign a static IP in the Linksys router and set the IP in the NetGear to that IP. That will give that segment (subnet) internet access and you will not see each other.
Now on the wireless issue did you set up your SSID so you can identify it when you do a site survey from your laptop? If their are other wireless networks in your area make sure your channel is set at least four away from the other wireless networks. Also when or if you set up any security on the wireless network use either WPA or WPA2 (if your wireless devices support it) and make sure you can remember them or write them down so when you connect your laptop you can enter the settings exactly. If your laptop will not see your SSID then make sure you have broadcast SSID enabled and your antennas are firmly attached.

Need help connecting router to router

I have a BEFW11S4 with two computers connected via wire. The BEFW11S4 is connected to a WRT300N via wire. The WRT300N has two computers (including the main) and an xbox connected by wire and others via wireless.
All items have internet access, however I cannot transfer files from the computers connected to the BEFW11S4 (running xp) to the computers connected to the WRT300N (running vista).
Not sure if I have the BEFW11S4 set up right (it auto set it up w/ Linksys EasyLink Advisor) or if this is a Windows issue.
I also cannot see the two computers connected to the BEFW11S4 from the vista computers (they are all on same workgroup), and once again, not sure if this is a windows thing or a mistake with router set up. Any help would be appreciated...I'm a bit of a newb at this stuff.

Is the WRT300N router is conected through LAN or WAN port ....
It should be connected to the LAN to LAn port on the BEFW11S4 router ....
also disable the DHCP of the router .... & change the LAN Ip - 192.168.1.2 .... then both the computers from both the routers will come in one network ....
